Ochoas Mexican Restaurant in other cities:
Not authentic mexican food. Chips stale.. Salsa too plain.Only had 4 on my party and still got charged 18% gratuity. When payed they still wanted me to tip more... 😕 tacos @ 4$ each or 2 for 7.99 (.01 cent less)took em a while to seat us and the restaurant was 2/3rds empty. Order the taco kids meals and they came on hard shells. My 2 year old did not eat it. Ask if i could change it and they said they could not... Server ask us if we needed refills on our lemonades and soda. When we said yes we waited and she never came with the refills. We gave up and just payed and got out of there. Will i come back here?? No!Will i recommend this place? No!!
We had a party of 25 Bowlers and our waitress was AWESOME AWESOME! She got everyones orders correct and kept our drinks full, chips and salsa and anything else filled at all times! The food was great and a lot of it! If Im ever back in that area I will go back and will recommend it to our future bowlers! We were bowling the Mixed State Bowling Tournament!!!
Just a great place for lunch or dinner. Too bad for me it is not on my regular route. Lucky day. The enchiladas were tasty, the combination plate was awesome and the service was friendly and professional. Great local favorite. Pretty crowded when we stopped by, yet the staff didnt miss a beat. Thanks. Great job.
My mother graduated 05/14/2021 and we took her to this location for dinner. Wed never been to this location before, only the Canton location (which we love btw). We were absolutely impressed with the food, the portions, the service, and the atmosphere!!! ** DORI ** was our waitress and she was absolutely wonderful!!! The place was packed, there was a wait for people to be seated, and we never lacked for anything!! We were served the ABSOLUTE BEST today and we thank EVERYTHING!!!
Our server was okish she kept our drinks full. However she brought our order out prepared wrong and told us it was wrong but didnt bother to fix it. Our cup of caso was cold when we got it and didnt come back much warmer after we asked for it to be heated up. So my friend was not able to eat her meal because of the preparation and no price adjustment was offered when we told them about the issue. So I guess really make sure your food is how you want it cuz youre going to pay for it.
I have been a patron of ochoas for over 25 years. however, Im not sure I will be going to the athens location anymore. twice now they have been very rude when ordering on the phone. food has realllyyyy gone downhill. servers are always nice. the front of the house needs a happy camper pill. so rude! overcharged and completely messed up one meal and didnt give us another meal. everyone has off nights but this is a habit now. so disappointed
Its NOT what it used to be however the memories carry it through. The server was UHMAZING the food was OK. The lady at the front will NEVER LEARN how rude it is to demamd tips for the servers like we didnt already tip. The least pleasant thing of the restaurant experience is checking out.... They should just lwt it work like other places let the servers handle it.The atmosphere went from family owned and operated to even the table tops are advertising in your face destroying good pictures. I had a FANTASTIC BIRTHDAY with FANTASTIC FRIENDS regardless of the few little issues. Just sad to see how time doesnt necessarily improve somethings. I will forever hold on to the memories of the GREAT AUTHENTIC FOOD from my childhood.
This place seems to never disappoint! I went to early church services and then we were the first customers to arrive for the day. They were ready for us! Our waiter was attentive, and not overbearing, the food was delicious!I had their tacos al carbon while hubby had grilled chicken breast. Both were presented beautifully and we ate our fill eagerly; still had leftovers to take home for dinner.Thank you, Ochoas, for being the premier restaurant in Athens.
Had lunch here today, 10/20/2020, and enjoyed it very much. You may order from the lunch menu until 3pm. We arrived just at the end of that window, 2:45pm.My husband and I both tried something new that we had never ordered before. The presentation was excellent! We proceeded gingerly upon being warned that the plates were VERY HOT! However, the food was not. Dont get me wrong, it was NOT cold. It just was not piping hot.All in all, a very enjoyable meal with extremely attentive service; not overbearing. I look forward to coming back and trying something else, perhaps at a different time of day.
Oddly confused as to why this place is rated so highly. I’ll assume it has to be because it’s a “small town.” The 2 stars I am giving are for the nice customer service at the door & checking out. The food was VERY mediocre. The kids cheese quesadilla had the chunkiest cheese we’ve ever seen & The chicken enchiladas had a sharp bone that stabbed me in the top of my mouth. When I mentioned it to waitress she quickly dismissed me by informing me that “it’s says it on the menu there might be bones in it would you like me to take the plates.” No offer of another option or empathy to the paying customer... overall I don’t think we will be coming back anytime soon but look forward to trying other new places in the area!
This restaurant USE TO be a 3.5 star restaurant at best. Wait staff can make or break you and is now a 1 star place. 2 waitresses were loudly and aggressively slinging and pushing chairs, slamming dishes around, glared at us while we finished our meals and drink. They were cursing and doing all this intentionally in an attempt to intimidate us to hurry us up. The chicken enchiladas with sour cream sauce should have just been called chili chicken and queso tasted and looked old. All it would have taken was for our waitress to say ladies I’m sorry we’re closing and need to close the register out.
Poor service from a server but we were trying to give him a chance to earn his tip but he didnt get all of our food to our table. We had to ask the man that was bussing if he knew anything about our tacos and our queso we asked for because our server wanted to hide in the back the whole time and he brought it to us so I gave him what was supposed to be our waiters tip to that sweet man. I told the server that it wasnt his fault that there was a bug in my soda because he couldnt control it but i asked for a new drink and i didnt get one. The cheese and onion enchiladas were really good!! And so was the salsa. Maybe talk to your servers and talk about being a little more eager and check often. Some people just need reminders here and there.
This place has completely lost the business of my family. We ordered take out, as there is no other option at this time, which is completely fine and understandable. We ordered and drove 25 minutes to pick up our order. After sitting there an hour and a half, we still never received our order. Staff took our information multiple times. Numerous other customers arrived and left with their orders, yet we never received ours. So we left and will not be doing any more business with them. 30 minutes after we leave we receive a call that our order had been ready for pick up. We were there for a hour and a half, so I dont know what the problem is. This is very unacceptable. We only ordered enchiladas, which arent good enough for the waisted time and headache. Ive never had to leave a negative review, but I had to for this instance.
Manager/Supervisor was the rudest woman I’ve ever had the misfortune of being subjected to over dinner. Worse yet: the food was practically cardboard, the alcohol low tier, the queso velveeta cheese. At this point, they should’ve paid me to eat here.Takeaway: even the starving should avoid at all costs.
Entrance greeting could certainly be warmer ! However, waitress very attentive and pleasing to make interchange with, not zombie like, but alive, engaging and warm throughout our time there... didnt seem to care if she got the tip or not which is unusual. I had asked friends Suzy & Kay to join me this particular evening and upon arrival they said, you couldnt have picked a better spot 😃Food plates are really big and very tasty. The iced tea fantastic 👌 The restaurant has had cosmetic uplift since my last visit, a year ago; its now more open less cluttered and appeared well kept. The atmosphere was good and overall visit? Well, enjoyable! Thanks Ochoas glad you are in our neighborhood 😊
Ive been going here for years and years and the food and service is always great. The salsa is the one thing that I will always enjoy, any time I pass through Athens, I like to stop and get some salsa to go. Pretty much everything on the menu is great, Im always a fan of the nachos, quesadillas, and fajitas. Last time I stopped in for some to go salsa, I also got some tamales to go and those where awesome as well!
Excellent Tex-Mex, Ive seen Ochoas several times before and wanted to stop and give it a shot, Im glad I finally got the opportunity today. The food was handmade and yummy, the wait staff was amazing, on the ball refilling salsa and tea, checking to see if everything was good with our order. The margarita was good and the sweet tea was a major refill on my boyfriends part, we was both very satisfied and happy with our choice today and will be back soon. The bath room was clean, thats always important to me. Two thumbs up.
Food was excellent as always, but the margarita was terrible! Which is sad because they use to be a favorite. It actually made me sick to my stomach after a few sips. And theyve started charging with things that have always been free (and are free every other Mexican restaurant Ive ever been to) like tortillas. I understand that it costs them money, but customers should at least be made aware of price additions that are new. Its not a huge fee, but it does make me feel like now I have to look out for hidden fees. And at a restaurant of all places. Ive been going here since I was a little kid.
Service was acceptable. Not great. Although, I did witness others receiving great service. Im thinking our waitress was having an off day, or was new.The food was exactly what we expected, like most of the Tex Mex in East Texas. The one thing that stands out is the chimichanga I ordered was enough that I couldnt finish it. Thats not usually an issue for me.
This may start an argument but personally I like the Athens location better! Dont get me wrong because Malakoff is good but I drive the extra fifteen minutes for Athens. It was super busy today and within two minutes of being seated we had drinks in hand and within ten our food was on the table! Service is outstanding at both but theres a subtle difference. Cant go wrong eating here...
This place rubbed me wrong from the word go. We walk in , and about 5-7 minutes later are seated (no big deal right). So we sit down and promptly Chips and Salsa. 😁Great right? Well after finishing the chips and salsa (and got refilled) Still no sign of waitress, hummm🙉 mouth is kinda hot,and dry. Long story short Service was terrible, (except salsa guy 😉) which should probably be a waiter by the way.Anyways yeah stay away from this place if your in a hurry . (2 hours later) 😤 we finally get a ticket ( After waitress cell phone died)
My family and I decided after passing by Ochoa mexican restaurant a hundred times, to finally try it. We went in and were asked our preference as far as tables, and I asked for a booth for many reasons that dont really matter, and was told that they did not have a booth available in the room that they were using, although the adjoining room was empty. I said we would have no problem waiting for a booth to be seated.I told her we would just wait, and that we didnt mind a bit. (I have special needs children who do a lot better in a booth than at a table, especially in the middle of a full room of people.) We politely backed out of the room to the benches to wait... Only a few seconds went by when a very large woman came toward me in a huff, with no mask on, and said, You know this is a public place, and we dont have to seat you in our other room if we dont want to.I was so taken aback by her attitude and her words that my husband noticed, and asked if I was ok, and feeling like I had just been accosted, I told him I would prefer to go somewhere else. Just FYI not 1 staff person was wearing a mask that I saw.My husband told me that he would like to get out of that dump and go to a little hole in the wall place my daughter Clarissa had shown us many years ago, so we went there hoping it was still open, and it was!Hernandez Mexican Restaurant in Eustace, TX.NOT EULESS, as in H.E.B., but EUSTACE out by Athens. Please dont tell anyone else about this place, I dont want anymore people to find out about it. Theyve had to expand already, and I dont want them to move. These nice people go out of their way to get you anything you want or need for a great meal in the middle of nowhere lol. They have Mexican and American food for the kiddos and its great, and served with a smile and just FYI, EVERYONE WEARS A MASK THERE. They care about their customers and staff.
We visited Ochoas on graduation night with a group of 16. The entire restaurant was packed full with celebrating families. The staff was sweaty, and a bit overwhelmed... yet they remained polite, and did their very best to keep everyone happy. The food was delicious as always, and well prepare. If you havent paid a visit to this family owned and operated Athens Texas icon - dont hesitate. Only con: chips and salsa arent free and should be in my opinion.
We drive from Dallas to eat at this particular location. The food is ALWAYS delicious! The staff for the most part are friendly. I would absolutely recommend this Ochoas to friends, family, and even people I don’t know! I wish there were a location closer to Dallas, but it’s worth the drive. Happy eating!
I loved the food ... Atmosphere was great... Waitress was very nice ... This was my first time there my husband has been wanting to take here to eat because my last name is Ochoa... I would recommend this placeto all my friends and family.. Thank you for some great food...Helen Ochoa
I love going to this place, the food is always fresh and good. The owner was there when my family and I went once and he was walking around greeting everyone and was very friendly. Its has a small town feel to it, the staff is always nice when we go and we will definitely be returning for more good food! :)
This is the most bland food I have ever had to pay for. They call it hot sauce, I call it no taste at all sauce. I even order the spicy version, when available and it is still very blah. The atmosphere is good and the staff is friendly but the food makes it a choice I stay away from.
Food was good but service was poor. It might just have been the evening that we were there but my wife never had her glass refilled and we had to ask for our bill when it came time to leave. We didnt see our server for the longest time. We will try it again and hope for a better experience next time.
After taking my wife and friends zip lining, we ate at one of the few open places in town, Ochoas. We got right in, even given the amount of cars parked outside. The food was good, I had chicken flautas and shared a margarita. The service however was pretty awful. The waitress spilled water on one of our party, and we had to ask people walking by our table to please either check on our order, or to just get things we asked for previously. I think we wound up having 3 different people waiting on our table before it was all said and done. They were not that busy since there were a few empty tables. I would probably return if I were in the area since the food was good, but the service would almost keep me from doing so.
I had high hopes for this place, but it was a let down. The waitress was very friendly and the wait time for food was fast . They got two of our orders wrong and the quality of the food was very low I have had food from taco bell that tasted better. We asked 3 times if they could turn off fan that was above our table finally when we were getting up to leave they turned it off. All in all I dont feel it was worth 70 dollars I paid .
I was taken to this restaurant because of the salsa. But, I was very disappointed in the wait staff. I was served by a young man who chose to make a comment, as he was talking to our waitress who was busy putting on her make up behind the bar. Taste the rainbow, and laughed. Is what he answered her. I just couldnt believe my ears. Really? I will never go there again! I will be that person who tells another, and that person will tell another.Shame ,shame on you!
I felt 23.00 for one meal pricey. I have always had a little guacamole and sour cream on side of my chimichanga. They charged me 3.00 for the guacamole ..which was just mashed avocado...and 1.00 for sour cream, making it a 18.00 meal. The salsa was way to hot. Everyone at the table had to use butter to tame it down.
Our family has eaten at Ochoas for a loooong time! They also have locations in Canton and Malakoff. Their hot sauce is great. Their food is great. Your chip bowl is never empty! They do have an additional charge though for plate sharing! I usually come home with a doggy bag because they feed you well! Family owned businesses. Well known by all East Texans!
Athens Ochoas is horrible! We went in at 9:20. I asked, they closed at 10. They wouldn’t get us tortillas cause they were “closing”, wouldn’t put salt on my margarita, and my order was wrong. They started moving all the chairs and tables around us and closing the section we were sitting in while we were still eating. Made us feel rushed and didn’t provide service. Just change your hours to 9pm.
Im a server at ochoas and it is by far one of the cleanliness restaurants I have worked in, and thats saying a whole lot seeing as I have been working on the food industry for 15+ years now. Family owned and authentic good Mexican food. Come in and visit us for a bite to eat and a drink specialty like the Grande Ochoas Margarita you can get nowhere other than Ochoas.

2022-06-21Really good spot for spot on Mexican cuisine. This place has been in Athens for 53 years so you know you are getting a solid meal from a place thats been doing it that long.

2022-05-14Prices are usually great, however weve noticed a little bit of a change recently. The portions can be a little smaller than you might think on some items, not everything. Food is really great!! No complaints there.

2022-07-29I was really disappointed in my service yesterday. It took the girl 20 mins and me repeating it over and over. They said food would be ready in 20 more like 40. And no jalapenos on nachos I ordered. Only had 2 chips not 6 chips with nachos. I love Ochoas so this was disappointing

2021-07-13The food and service were just ok. Took forever for the server to come get the drink orders. The Chile relleno was definitely a disappointment. I was not impressed with the red salsa that they put on top, tasted out of the jar or canned. Should have chosen the cheese topping instead.

2022-03-02Food was good. Ordered fajita nachos and it was just chips, melted cheese and chicken chunks. Food looked like it was microwaved then served .Even though it was good, not great just looked very bland.
