Old Pal Texas Tavern in Lockhart
One of the best burgers in Central Texas. Itll make you want to drive to Lockhart for this burger, and not the fantastic BBQ places in Lockhart.
Great experience with some friendly locals. Grab a beer and chat for awhile. Maybe try the noms... Nuff said.
We had some smash burgers and jojos. The food was excellent and the staff was friendly.
Live music, nice little bar, beer is cold, mixed drinks are strong .. but you can have a bite to eat. Food is fresh and tasty.
Man I love this place. Great food, friendly folks, awesome jukebox, good vibes, cool marketing; these folks (along with a few other downtown shops) are at the forefront of Lockhart revitalization as a hip Austin outpost. Pay them a visit and you’ll be a regular.
So very cool. Old style country music. Dogs allowed IN THE BAR! The bartender brought my doggy a bowl of iced water and she enjoyed it at the bar. Wonderful place..we will be back!
Great spot to be. The owner is pretty cool, the food is better than these nasty ol BBQ crapholes in town and the beer is cold. If you want the best margarita, look no further. Good staff too. And hey, they support local baseball teams and made a cool donation to the all star tournament teams. Its a good place to be in the hot Texas heat.
Burgers do not come with sides; chicken tender meal was good, but that also does not come sides. Yes, the burgers are smash patties but NOT paper thin. The two patties in my burger were maybe a 1/4 lb, surely not half lb. This is truly a bar environment food in second, and the separation of items is meant to make the most $ as possible. I will not eat here again.

Initially I was going to give a lower rating because the food took way to long to come out, but it was well worth the wait. Very good food in an old school Texas setting.

Loved it! Sauces are awesome and homemade, the jojos potato wedges are great and they give you a lot. My boyfriend got sweet potato waffle fries and those are very good as well and Im not a fan of sweet potatoes. We both got smash burgers and they are AMAZING! Great atmosphere and great food, we will be back!

Cool spot me and some friends had a couple drinks at to let some bar b q digest . Great old school environment and the juke box has a great selection of real country music. Great to see to Townes Van Zandt and Guy Clark in the selections
Great place! The drinks are very good. A little different but excellent. The food is delicious but again, a little different. There is a cold picnic chicken sandwich. Spicy Charro black eyed peas, delicious. My favorite way to have black eyed peas, ever. The sweet potato waffle fries come with curry Ranch dressing. There is a delicious smash burger if you crave the beef. They have sliced apple pie but dont get it. Get instead the pastry apple hand pie. Get two.
The deviled eggs are the best Ive ever had. My wife loves their biscuits and the Smash burger is excellent. The booze is good too 🍺.
I ordered the fried chicken dinner and it was sooo tender, juicy and crispy with perfect flavorings. The JoJo fries and boom boom sauce were an unexpected delight too. And if youre into Margaritas...well make sure you have Bradford make them on the rocks...he has the magic touch and makes them so yum!!
Excellent in every way! The food is phenomenal - classic menu with creative twists that dont try too hard. The drinks are ice cold, the jukebox is well curated, and the staff is friendly & funny. Great vibe, great food, great people - what else could you possibly ask for?

The food here is honestly fantastic! We had the fried chicken, smash burgers and the sweet potato fries all of which were fresh, tasteful and very flavorful. However, the portion size left us hangry with a rather steep bill and a tad bit of disappointment. The burger ($8), while delicious was extremely small (think pterrys size or smaller) and was NOT accompanied by fries. The drinks ($10) (margarita and mule) were good but overpacked with ice and came in very small glass. The fried chicken was outstanding and a descent value at ($13) for half a bird. I would like to see slightly larger portions for the price and maybe include fries for around $10-12. With the value in mind I may go one block over to Henry’s next time.

Horrible experience never seen a bartender so inexperienced. Unless you have time so they can tend to others while you wait in front of the bar and get looked passed like your a ghost good luck. Oh don’t forget the excuses used classic bull “@#%*
Great watering hole in the lockhart square. Chicken is good but dont sleep on the burger. If you are into craft beer this not your spot. Recommendation is to give in to the old school

I drove from Austin to check this place out and let me tell you its the best thing since sliced bread. This is every bar I have ever loved rolled into one stop shop. Do yourself a favor and see for yourself.
My dad lives in lockhart and its so nice to grab a delicious cocktail while he can also have a miller high life. Great place to take a break and relax in the bbq capital of Texas.

2022-06-19Great live music The Sliders were playing. Nice people working there. Always a great time! Small place but perfect vibe. This is my hometown and growing up was a dry county nice as an adult not to have to go across county line for a drink.

2022-02-04So glad we made a stop on our road trip here! Great service and great food n drink. Is definitely worth a stop if you’re traveling through Lockhart. We got the steak frites, fried chicken, deviled eggs and both sweet potato fries and jo-jos. All soooo good. Will be coming back. Oh and all the staff were so friendly and the locals had great vibe too

2021-12-25We discover this jewel in the middle of Lockhart, TX. while we were looking some place to have a late lunch on Christmas Eve.We sat on the bar and the bar tender was super friendly. He kindly showed us the seasonal beers.To eat we had the “Beer can roster chicken” it comes with a biscuit and coleslaw salad. Chicken was full of flavor and very juicy. As a side we had the “Sweet potatoes waffle fries” they come with a creamy-curry dressing.Highly recommended to have a quality meal with your favorite canned beer, plus enjoying a “small town” vibe.

2021-09-07The food took me to flavor town 👅We ordered the chicken tenders with the boom boom 💥Sauce, a chicken sandwich with the honey mustard and the sweet potato waffle fries (super crispy) with the curry sauce. All super yummy and scrumptious.Totally forgot to take pics of the food, but the ambience is super cute!Also bought a tee shirt, Bc the branding is very cool. Will be back 😎

2021-10-14Attended a wedding just outside of Lockhart. Old Pal Texas was recommended as a place to grab a drink before the event. I was not disappointed. Eclectic charm with all of the vintage Jim Beam, Wild Turkey, and other Bourbon brand commemorative decanters. Drinks were very good and the bartenders were quite friendly.The chicken tenders were no frills, but delicious. The “Cane’s” sauce and gravy were nice additions while enjoying these (pictured). They hosted their first Friday Fish Fry and live music is hosted often.Will be back to enjoy a few ranch waters and more tenders on my next trip through Lockhart

2022-07-03Excellent food! I went with the smash burger (possibly the best in town?) and my wife chose picnic chicken sandwich; both were delicious. Another star was the sweet potato fries with curry ranch, what a combo! We highly recommend Old Pal and will return with friends!

2022-07-14Finally got to check this place out. At first I didnt know what to do, then the girl gave us menus and said Sit wherever you like and place your order at the bar. I personally liked this style of ordering my other half, not so much. Ehh. Upon seating we notice a band was going to be playing. And we didnt have to pay to get in WHAAAT :) Food was amazing, drinks great, and the people and Band was all Good!

2022-04-12Came into town for work and had this place recommended to me for lunch. I was not disappointed.We had the wedge cut french fries with whatever house sauce they came with, the smash burger, the chicken tender appetizer, and a chicken tender sandwich.Best bar food Ive ever had. No question. Best chicken tenders Ive ever had, too. Heck, same with the smash burger. I, personally, Im not a fan of smash burgers, but this one was fantastic. The house made sauces were all great and worked well with what they were served with.Fantastic dive bar. I am looking for an excuse to come back to Lockhart, Texas (hopefully on a Thursday, Friday, or Saturday when they have live music).
