Awesome store with tons of deals (literally)! I have been to this store many times and found many things i have wanted for a fair price. And many things i didnt know that i wanted or knew existed. This is a one of a kind store that is the epitome of old school real Austin. They have everything. From awesome antique furniture to toys to knick knacks to records etc. Literally something for everyone. I have gotten anything from furniture for my house to gifts for my family and friends. Just a great family owned unique store with tons of deals. If you are looking for something unique then this is the place to go.
This store was a giant waste of time. I witnessed this shop owner give prices that were different to colored people. If you were a minority the price was higher, if you did not have any color to your skin you were perfectly allowed to pick up any toy and get it at a discount. I asked for a toy and a few comic books the price the shop owner kindly told me $10. She set them aside upfront right near the front door, a minority couple came in and asked about the items she quickly responded and told them that she would sell them for $25-$30 depending if they had cash. She did not do that to me she tell me she would hold them. I think this is such a rude store and a very horrible horrible customer experience I cannot believe she treated these people minorities different from everybody else. This is Austin This is America shouldn’t we all be free and not trapped under one person’s store just because she’s an owner.… Thoughts?
This store is a hidden treasure. It has everything for all your fancies. Best part is that its locally owned and the owners are a delight. I could spend hours in this place. Some of the coolest antiques and trinkets Ive found in Austin. I definitely will be returning.
This place is a hoarders wet dream. Youre bound to find something that you like there regardless of what youre looking for, although youre going to have to make an afternoon of it. It really is stuffed full of all the things, and it can be incredibly challenging to find a specific item. The owner is super nice though, so while it might take you some time to find the thing itll likely be a pleasant journey. Tetanus shots recommended as well, you know just in case.
Love this iconic piece of Austin! There is no way you wont walk out of there without something because they have a bit of everything and I really mean EVERYTHING! You can spend hours looking at it all. I highly recommend this place to find the perfect unique gift for your loved one, friend or even yourself. They are always getting in new stuff so you just never know what gem your going to find here.
I read a few good reviews about this place but frankly it felt like a safety hazard being in their store. There are no isles and basically a hoarders place. I was looking for used vinyl and I had to move some junk out of the way to get to the records. Reluctantly I went ahead and bought a couple of albums so I wouldnt get talked into staying any longer than I wanted to. I think she over charged me a little and the albums were dusty and in fair condition at best. I was just happy to get back in my car, felt like I escaped. I will never go back and best of luck to those that brave the potential avalanches!!
I was so excited to visit this store, because I thought I had been to every thrift and resale shop around Austin. But alas, I found a new one and I thought I could find some good deals....WRONG! This store was FILTHY, STINKY and should be condemned and reported to the fire department because you could not even walk in the isle without tripping on something, bumping something, or almost causing something to fall. Things were stacked and packed from floor to the absolute top of the ceiling. A complete hoarders paradise and completely disgusting. There were signs all over the store warning you do not touch - will fall. There were no prices on a single item. When asked for prices I was told that I would get a good packaged deal. When I asked to see something in a case I was told that those items were too expensive and out of my price range (even though she had no idea what prices they were) and suggested that I should dig in the rat poop infested boxes below instead because I could find cheaper things. When I finally collected the items I wanted to buy, I asked her for the price and I didnt even get an exact amount and instead I got....oh, it will be ABOUT 45 dollars. I know the value of the things I was buying and she was totally trying to rip me off. I would not recommend anyone to step foot into this store because it is seriously a hazard to your health and your safety, nor to pay a dime to someone who doesnt know the true value of things.
While I don’t mind the store being absolutely packed to the brim with items, I did mind the high “retail” prices. My heart sank when I heard my total after I spent some time digging through the store. I ended up having put back most of my finds. Not my idea of a fun time at a vintage shop.
I really like this store. The staff are very nice and welcoming! You could spend the entire day there and not get bored. I have a few small complaints. The store is a little hard to walk through because its crowded. But I still like the vibe there. Also , I wasnt able to make a credit card purchase and I wasnt carrying cash. I wish there had been a sign stating they didnt accept credit card payments. The credit card issue seems to be a common problem in Austin though. I live in Phoenix and frequent many small businesses ( I even own a small business , not retail) and I never have had an issue using credit, this might be a Texas issue (due to taxes ??). I saw in several stores , signs stating no credit cards or no credit cards for purchases under a certain amount , maybe it was at the counter and I missed it ?
If I could give this place a -1 I would. It was the most crowded, dirtiest and disorganized antique store I have ever been at. I walked in here thinking I could find something nice for me and our kids. Met the owner at the entrance who just looked at me and didnt say anything after I said hello. Tried to walked around tryung to find things, but found lots of dirt and dead insects. My 6 yr old ADHD son had picked a pop head he liked so I told him to hold it while we kept looking. Next thing I know the old lady (owner) came out of nowhere and snatched the toy from my sons hands and said this doesnt have a price and took it. I was so upset that she did that I ended up leaving.I must also add that I was talking to my son in Spanish all the time there because I am Hispanic and want my son to lean Spanish. This lady fallowed us all around the store like we were thieves ever since she heard me talking to my son in Spanish. Races much???!!RUDEST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!!!ANDNO OSHA APPROVED AT ALL!!!!
I just wanted to comment on this store, because I wanted to let everyone know about the rude and nasty customer service I got here. The owner is an old lady that gave me a nasty look when I walked in and didn’t say hi back. I didn’t think much of but because I gave her the benefit of the doubt and said to myself maybe she didn’t hear me. After “trying” to walk around the store since it’s so crowded in there I notice she had been following me and other customers around. It made me feel so uncomfortable that I decided to leave and not buy anything. I felt like she was all the time on my back watching me like I was going to still something.
Where do I begin! This store has so much product that the walls are practically busting at the seems. There are many treasures hidden inside. Just make sure youve got plenty of time to dig around and heres a tip - bring a pair or two of disposible rubber gloves. I wish Id done that my first time there because when I left, my hands were stained with dirt and dust. Its was pretty gross. A little bit of dirt isnt enough to keep me away.
Crowded, narrow aisles, dirty, hard to see items on overstuffed shelves and just not fun. Most items aren’t priced or overpriced. You can’t just pile boxes on boxes in front of bookshelves or display cabinets and expect people to climb through it all to look at your stuff. The day we were there, we saw cobwebs and dead bugs all over the place. Just a mess. Should be on Hoarders. They need intervention.
It is rare that I take the time to write a review, but this store merits me sitting down to do so. I simply adore this place, I try to make it in at least every other week or so. Its astonishing how many hidden treasures there are, and just when I think I have seen it all, theres always another shelf I seemed to have over looked. And the icing on the cake?? The store owner Linda, whos quips with the shoppers keep a constant raised eyebrow and smile on my face.If you are hunting for records, classic toys, or antique jewelry, this is the place to run to.
Been there with my wife and kids a couple times. Nice lady and a fun place to look for random stuff but a word of advice do not go unless the son is there apparently because she doesnt seem to know the pricing of about 90% of the stuff in her own store. If he isnt there and you find three or four things you want be prepared to leave with none of them or if youre lucky maybe one. I wish I was exaggerating I dont ever write reviews but its happened to me more than once one time she couldnt reach him so of the four things I wanted to buy I had to put them all back and was asked to come back at a time when the son will be there and same thing happened the second time I went Id found something I really wanted but again no son and he wasnt answering his phone so again I was asked to come back another time. They seem like hoarders who are in the in between stage of dealing with it and cant decide what they want to keep or get rid of but either way its a very annoying way to run a business and its very rude waste your customers time like that. And I noticed she doesnt seem to be very remorseful or even really care about it because Ive seen a couple people on here post the same thing and she responds with the same we were unpacking that day excuse but anyway I feel Ive vented enough about it just remember if the son isnt there you may get lucky but you more than likely will be given some b.s. and will leave empty handed I recommend calling first.(after they responded) And as expected I get a response in the form of an excuse instead of owning responsibility look Im not trying to be mean or disrespectful but I work in the same environment as you with my family whove run the most successful water conditioning business in central texas and have been doing so longer than your store has been open so I know at least the basics of how a business in which you deal with selling products to customers works and trust me what you guys have going on is done very poorly and you handle it very poorly you say well weve been in business for blah blah blah but people enjoy places like yours that make you feel like youre treasure hunting at garage sales and you sell a lot of things way above the value of what they are but here and there Im sure they add up enough to pay the bills and keep you afloat but there are too many items that either you arent sure you want to get rid of which is why you hide some of them you told me that yourself the first time I came which was weird but I blew it off but then almost everything Ive asked about since then was either met with an I dont know or i have to call him or yes like today you didnt have parts or something for one of the things so I had to come back if I wanted it AGAIN which didnt make sense either did you take parts out? Were they not in there to begin with then if so then why did you put it out for anyone to assume its for sale we dont know your weird system if there are things you want or arent sure of then keep them out of the store until you are sure and if things in your personal life are keeping you too busy to be involved in your business properly then you need a new pricing system in case you arent around because it is not cool at all to be ok with how your system inconveniences customers the way it does but in the end it is your business you can run it however you choose it just sucks because I really did like your store but I wont be coming back because I dont know if going will be a waste of time or not which kinda kills the joy out of what was fun about going there in the first place. Best of luck though.
Ive been coming here for several years now. Always some good times to be had....great finds too just about every time!!! The family is always a hoot, inventory is ever-changing and theres always a decent amount of just about eva-thang. If youre a collector (of any sorts), thrifter and/or a picker....you must stop in and check it out!
Very cluttered, hard to walk around. And seems as if the owners do not want to part with ANYTHING. Prices are insanely high. I didnt liked being watched like a hawk as if I was going to lift something... Could be that the owner wanted to be near Incase I had questions, but it wasnt my first time in there. Also I handed her and her son something to price and they set it back down as if they werent ready to part with it but didnt explain that, this is the second time that has happened. I brought an out of town guest, he picked up something that had a price from a marker on it, she (owner) then stated that someone was playing games around here as if a customer or myself wrote that price on there in marker. I held out my hands to show I didnt have a marker and her response was.. not you.. it was just an uncomfortable situation I refuse to put myself in again.
While a bit disorganized, Out of the Past is a great place to pick up antiques and vintage items that you wont find at your typical antique store. Ive gotten fantastic deals on glassware, vinyl and old toys and will definitely keep coming back. Its kind of like rummaging through an old attic though, so plan on getting a little dirty.
I loved this shop..it was exactly what I was looking for...I loved digging through all the boxes, like I was in great grandmas attic, finding treasures beyond my wildest dreams. If I would have had the time, I would have gone back day after day and spent hours on end in there. I bought way too much, but I know I will do it again and again. There is a never ending treasure trove there for me since I am a jewelry maker from antique pieces ,...I felt like I had died and gone to Heaven. Way to go Linda, you hit the highest mark for me.
Personally, Im a bit overwhelmed by this eclectic mess of things. You could spend a long time looking and probably never see everything. However, Im sure of youre going to find hidden gems, this place would have them. Its really neat to go look and you can definitely find unique things for unique prices.
I always recommend this place to friends and family! I have purchased the best gifts here (dancing Hank Williams doll, local band poster from the 70s that my friends dad played in) and always find the best decor for my house. My boyfriend is also a Star Wars fan and knows they will always have rare items he is looking for at reasonable prices. Be prepared to wind through narrow aisles searching for treasure, its probably not for everyone!
This store looks like it should be in a episode of hoarders. Its pretty much up to you do decide what is junk and what is treasure. Nothing has a price tag so you need to find the owner and ask her. The record collection is fierce. I brought my dad here just to see it. We spent 2 hours going through it all and he left very happy with a box full of records he thought hed never own again.
I thought the exact same thing about Hoarders. It made me a little bit dizzy to walk around in there and try to make sense of everything. Nothing is really priced because, as the owner said Theres just too much. I found a couple of things I liked there, and was considering... But whenever I would touch something... She would wince, suck in some air real quick and say Thats expensive. Its worth a lot of money. Im pretty sure she is an actual hoarder- as these items were not only not worth what she thought they were, but something I would have been happy giving her a fair price for. Requiring me to touch them. Instead of feeling like a scolded child, Ill just scour the rest of the world before returning here.
Place has lots of nice old vintage stuff some not to oldThe only complains are items not priced and when they ring it up its just over priced. If you have money to waist this is the place. If you want to bargain hunt theres a lot more antiques stores around.Alluminum ice cube scoop made in taiwan and a coffe cup no brand .
The one time I went here, it was too crowded with stuff to really look at anything. I think an episode of Hoarders could be done at this place. The place made me sneeze from all the dust, and it smelled like my grandmas house. In fact, I suspect it smells like everyones grandmas house. Decent collection of records, though.
100% totally rude service,She was so rude to the kids even my 90-year-old grandmother, I will never go to the store again she was a complete racist person and told me that I should not be allowed in her store ever again. And believe me this is one store I can report on that I will never go to again thank you please do not support this lady she is so racist and she does not care about any type of minority.
I go back and forth on this place. Its a major stop for most of cap metro. I speak as rider of the bus. The place could stand to have a couple of park police there to keep things under control. The homeless downtown have gotten more aggressive after sundown. Im not saying violate peoples rights. Im just saying be seen.

2022-03-05The best antique store I have ever experienced in all of Austin, was a regular visitor of this store where I bought many items of the past and recent. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable in geek culture and collectables. Hope to visit again to see how much it has changed.

2021-03-11This place has an AWESOME selection, and is owned and operated by some pretty awesome folks. I go almost every Sunday and have never left empty handed since they get new inventory regularly. Antique furniture, toys, dolls, records, signs and whatever else you’re looking for. A great local place to buy/sell/trade collectibles of every kind.

2022-01-31This is by far the best collectible store I have ever shopped. The owner, Linda, is very knowledgable on a wide array of items and this has been my go-to spot for birthday and Christmas gifts. Austin is the absolute best resource for Hot Wheels and figurines. If you havent gone by, go! And if you have, go back! You will be so pleased with your shopping experience!!!

2022-02-09Amazing store, been going there for years. May not look like much but the got it where it counts. If you like finding hidden treasures definitely give them a shot. Couldnt be in business as long as they have if they didnt have something you would want.

2017-10-15Well I was really turned off at first to this place, I mean the smell, dust and pure grime is pretty overwhelming. But I kind of crawled in there and found treasures to bring home. They have a ton of collectibles in there. They have toys I haven’t seen for decades! I really digged it! Who doesn’t need a bunch of dirty 8-tracks!

2022-04-05Unfortunately, the place is claustrophobically cramped with stuff stacked on itself, making it almost impossible to shop. That alone is common in thrift stores, but here the prices were super high for anything I asked about, especially given the shopping environment conditions. Usually expect to pay 30% of those prices when Im treasure hunting 🤷

2022-04-27Ok place. Has a lot of items, but not easily found. Some organization, but hard to look through the stuff inside the store. If you have time, you may find some bargains.
