Out of all the years that I have been playing mtg, even though its not many, Ive been to at least 5 different Magic the Gathering stores. Out of all 5 of those, Pats Games has the most friendly staff and the most friendly players. You can go in as a new player and everyone there will help you with everything that you need. The store is really kid friendly. They host events just for kids and new players. Pats Games in Austin will be the store that I will always try to make some time out to go to.
WOW!! Fantastic environment. Great staff. Card selection unmatched. Ive been looking for a store that has their stuff together when it comes to magic the gathering. Clearly this is the place Ive been looking for. Was the first customer in today, and even very early the staff were kind, very patient and helpful.Excellent prices and inventory stock levels.Their computer system/card database is wonderfully designed and user friendly.Well worth my time and money.Highly recommended for people seeking a friendly and accommodating game store geared toward card players.- 5 out of 5 stars no question about it.
Best card shop period. better than card kingdom on prices, great selection, and cheaper than tcgplayer when you consider shipping. service has gotten better over my 10 years of shopping there, only problems is they need to open up shop and be available more than 2 days a week. WE WANT TO PLAY ON THE PATIO AND IM TIRED OF DRAFTING ONLY WITH FRIENDS!
Very comforting atmosphere in the heart of downtown Austin. The store is actually an old house with a great patio and other open areas. The owner is very kind, professional, and fun! The staff is also helpful and knowledgeable. My only piece of constructive criticism is that the store and playing areas could be much cleaner and organized. Even though all the tables and walking paths are clean and usable, you can easily see disorganization around. This can definitely change the atmosphere for the better if the look and feel are more pleasing to the eye.Overall, I highly recommend this store for magic the gathering, especially for pre-release.
This place is a Mtg players dream. The staff is wonderful, friendly, knowledgeable. Within two visits they knew my name, no small feat with how many players go in and out of this place, that says alot being a former Retail Manager of 10 years. Theyre pricing on selling and buying cards is fair, and the online system is great and well implemented.
I have been a Pats games customer for many years, before the castle was built and the store was called Pats Beanies and More. Pats specializes in the trading card game called Magic: the Gathering (MTG) and recently added Pokemon singles and packs to their inventory.-Best place to play magic in town.-Has almost any Magic single you could possibly want from Alpha (1993) to the most recent set. They carry standard Pokemon singles as well.-Nice outdoor patio-Friendly players and staff-Multiple tournaments in a week from casual booster drafts to competitive events-Great Online Buy/Sell system-Great prices on all product. All sealed and single prices include tax. In print packs are $3.75 and boxes are $98.If you are a new magic player or an experienced vet, this is the best store in town. If you are new I would suggest coming on Friday and/or Saturday as these days are a bit more casual.Parking can appear to be limited during peak hours, but dont worry. If there is no parking in the main lot, you can park across the street at the daycare, next door at the Christi center, or at the Republic of Sandwich after their business hours (3:00 pm).
Best range of singles with employees that know the game spanning over twenty years of cards and thousands of stock cards for just about any deck on demand quickly and professionally.Fires tournaments most Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and varied events Saturday afternoons.Great local crew who love to brew decks and playtest outside the conventional competitive play and always keep it fresh with a tournament scene of a large Modern, Legacy, Draft, and now Pioneer crowd with awesome prize support that can be used towards packs, singles, and more.
I Love this store, its fun to play at, the atmosphere is great, and a ton of cool people play there. Pat is friendly and has the best prices of anywhere I have ever played magic. The new pagoda will be great for this summer to be outside in the shade and play. I always seem to have great luck at opening packs when at Pats. There is no such thing as a one time only customer at this place....Once you have been to Pats you are a lifetime member of the best Magic store ever!
The legend! Ive been coming to Pats Games for more than a decade now, and watched it grow and grow, and it just keeps getting better. A quick heads up, this store is exclusively for Magic: the Gathering and with tournaments nearly every day. If you come looking for other games, youll be disappointed. Its the best store for MtG in the States -- a castle thats spoken of from coast-to-coast, and the only place to be for major releases and tournaments.
The ultimate Magic: The Gathering fantasy venue. Place is literally modeled on a medieval castle, with a moat and everything.Great selection of singles (cards), and plenty of room to battle. Fridays usually attract large crowds for all casual and competitive formats. People often play late into the night inbthe outdoor covered area. Poor wheelchair accessibility.
I personally think this is the best game store in Texas. Sure, there are larger ones out there but you wont find a more aestethically pleasing place to game. Its not only the vibe but this is one of the oldest places around in the history of MTG. Customer Service is great too! Its hard to find a better shop overall actually. just wish I didnt live so far away...
The welcoming staff helped me find everything i was looking for. Told them i was new to magic the gathering and gave me information on how to be a part of the community such as events. Pats has an outdoor patio to play cards as well as a few tables inside you can order cards online with a free account and pick them up on a date that is convenient for you. Five stars is not enough for this spot that offers competitive prices and unique environment for gaming.
I checked out Pats Games on the recommendation of a regular and I was blown away by everything I saw and experienced. The owner knows exactly what she and her team are doing. Her team was one of the most professional folks I have dealt with Magic or Non Magic wise. While it is in a somewhat hidden part of Austin, the inside was every bit as nice as the outside and they are one of the few one stop MTG shops in the region and country that have one of the highest singles/pack turns I have witnessed in person. While I took a gamble on a Fat Pack, keep in mind they sell MTG packs the same price as Amazon and other online retailers minus the shipping which shows their willingness to go the extra mile to save customers money and provide outstanding value. I dont know when I will go back for Friday Night Magic but it is definitely worth a few trips.
I have been playing Magic for three years now, and Pats Games is definitely my favorite card shop and tournament venue in Austin. Whenever I need new cards I can count on great prices for any single, and the order is always ready when I request, even when I want to pick them up the next day. I have never had trouble with the staff or the judges, in fact I have found a friendly group of players, innovators and enthusiasts with a great wealth of knowledge about Magic the Gathering. I wouldnt trade Pats for any other Magic shop.
Ive been going to Pats since about 2010, its been the only store Ive consistently been to since I started playing magic both competitively and casually. Admittedly, I havent been able to play Magic as much recently but I still will stop by and pick up supplies and singles from time to time. They were my first draft, my first FNM, and my first competitive tournament. They made the whole experience wonderful for a new player. The selection they have of singles is amazing, and the process with their online store is something that you would expect from Channel fireball or SCG, but this LGS has a very seem less and manageable checkout, you just need to pick them up from the store. Best place for Magic in Austin.
Great place and customers. I went there to learn more about MTG trying to transition out of Yugioh and l got taught how to play by the store owner herself. The place is more than an LGS, it feels more like a giant family where you can just play card games and ignore everything else in your life for a few hours which is what TCGs are all about. There really is only 1 issue with the place and thats parking.
Ive only been here a few times and Ive never been able to attend any Friday Night Magic gatherings or tournaments, but for a place to find the cards you need, no one can seem to beat Pats. At least not locally.I highly recommend paying their site a visit and registering before you go. You can then place an order, walk in, and theyll have it ready for you. They also do trades at the normal 20% boosted rate. The parking is usually pretty good, plenty of space to play as well. The exterior of the store is gorgeous. Getting into the parking lot can be a little bit awkward if youve never done it. The angle of the street and slightly less than clear signage dont really help.
This place is a Magic The Gathering Mecca destination. You have to at least go see it if you play Magic. The outside is extremely nice and looks like a cute cottage. The interior is unfortunately very lacking in terms of space, organization, and cleanliness. I dont think most of the frequent visitors mind though as they are too busy playing Magic. Its not for the everyday consumer/visitor.The staff is very nice and they have a cute house dog that lies around. As far as Magic card selection, its extermely diverse but only viewable via online access.
Pats is unlike any game store Ive visited. The house its in feels like a home. Pats can offer competitive gaming and casual atmosphere at the same time. This is the reason I consider it my LGS (local game store) even though Im about 15 miles south. Pats primarily focuses on Magic, but also deals in Pokemon.
They only do Magic: the Gathering here, but with all the varieties of formats they still do a lot. The host some big tournaments here, and its one of the few places where you can play the legacy format here in town. They also have a huge selection of cards from across the history of the game.
I just started playing Magic this year and this place has quickly become something like my second home. I love coming here and playing casual games with my friends and I will some times go to the pre-release events. No card shop in austin is as fun, friendly, and knowledgeable as the staff at Pats is.
Pat is an amazing business woman. She has created a haven for Magic players in Austin. Her email call to actions are never a waste on inbox as she lets you know about really good deals or cool tourneys. Shell work with you if you spend a lot there too! Over all if Im playing Magic Im doing it here.
Im new to Austin and an avid Magic the Gathering player. My first time at Pats Games was last Friday on 7/6/2012 and I had an AMAZING time! The people there are friendly and knowledeable - other reviews have described it as the Pro Shop, which isnt far off the mark. New players are made to feel welcome, too! If there is a question there are at least 3 people who want to answer it for you.The individual card selection, incidentally, is superb. There isnt anything I can say here about Pats that does the place justice. You must see it for yourself. :]
Pats is a local hang-out place for me and a few friends when we want to play magic, its got a good environment, a huge selection of cards, Im a casual magic player but it seems almost every night theres some sort of event going on there. Also I tend to get really luck with the packs over at pats. =)
Considered by most as the best Magic the Gathering store in Austin. This store really just a house converted into a MtG gamers haven. They have pretty much every MtG card you could possibly want but the only down side is that you can only browse the cards via thier website. They do not allow browsing of the boxes. Thier tournaments have the best pay outs. One of the only downsides is that the inside of the store is a little small, cramped, and messy but the outside deck area is very large and quite beautiful. A definite must for any Magic player.
Pat and the staff at Pats Games truly knows how to treat the customers right, and Pats is an excellent place to buy Magic: the Gathering cards and merchandise or, more importantly, play Magic. Pats team runs tournaments incredibly smoothly with on-time starts and minimum downtime between rounds.Pats prize support is extremely generous. For pre-releases, for example, she often throws in extra prizes that can be an incredible value. Pats Games is just a terrific place to enjoy a Magic tournament.

2022-05-12Great local card shop that actually sells MTG singles at a good market value. The system to do so is a little less user friendly but gets the job done. Ive heard the play scene is fantastic here for all formats of Magic the Gathering.

2022-07-04This place is great for MtG (especially if youre into Commander). They can get pretty busy, but the staff is very friendly and helpful. The prices are sometimes better than competitors and sometimes higher, but that happens often with smaller hobby stores. They take trades and sell individual cards through their website, but they have a lot of boxes and packs if you want to buy in the store. You can also get card sleeves and playmats if you need them.

2022-04-02So pat’s was the first lgs I went to when I first moved to ATX years ago, and I’ve gone to many others but pats has by far been my absolute favorite that ended up being the shop I frequent the most by far. The staff is super friendly and polite and has a good relationship with their regulars. The community has always been pleasant and non-toxic. So the vibes are always good. As far as the store itself goes it’s absolutely beautiful and comfortable. It’s like a mini castle for magic players with an amazing aesthetic. Their stock is impressive, rarely do they not have what I need in singles or in sealed products. Which as someone who mostly buys singles is a huge plus. Their online ordering system is super easy to work with for ordering anything. Plenty of seating both indoors and out. Bathrooms are always clean. I could go on and on about how great this store is honestly.

2022-01-22Ive been here a few times now...great place to play Magic the gathering, but Im not sure what the point of the place is. You cant browse cards or collections in person (they tell you to just go online) and the only thing you can buy when walking-in are boosters and sealed cards. Weird. You have to pre-order singles online, so you have to know what you want already. This is fine, but you may as well just buy singles cheapest online t&t or whatever. Why have a brick and mortar store if its basically just an online shop anyway?

2022-02-24Fantastic little shop, great prices on booster boxes and packs, I just wish the shop hours werent so odd! Opening at 4pm during the week and closing at 5pm on Saturdays is really unfortunate. Being closed on Sundays and Mondays makes it even harder to visit the shop. They also have fantastic staff who were very helpful! If you plan on going make sure to look up the store hours for. OH! And their site, dear god, they might have 90% of all cards from MtG but the site looks like something created back when the internet was just getting started. Please for the love of god Pat have someone revamp the site, its ultra clunky and and not easy to use. Those two points are whats keeping me from giving a 5 star review. I really wish they could resolve both issues. Still a fantastic shop Ill still stop by whenever Im up in Austin if they are open!

2021-08-22This shop is awesome! The inside is cozy, and the porch is lovely; a wonderful place to hang out and play Magic the Gathering. Its got a cute little garden and lots of outdoor seating. I went to the Saturday Commander event, and it was really nice. It was a great way to meet new people, and it was nice to get a pack of cards when we won! I had a lot of fun, and the owners were very nice. I highly recommend stopping by on a Saturday if you like playing commander!

2019-04-28Did a MTG pre-release here today. People were very friendly, and the environment is unique and cool. Thoroughly enjoyed myself. It definitely was a bit hectic there today but it was a pretty big event hahah.

2022-02-22Pats Games is a neat litle shop that specializes in Magic the Gathring cards and products. Complete with fantasy decor like youre walking into a castle. Inside youll find welcoming staff, most likely Ed and/or Charles. Who will be more than happy to help you find what your looking for.

2021-07-26Very cool atmosphere. Very hidden away, only found it from recommendation of another store. They have a website where you can search through and order cards from their stock, and they have kiosk laptops for you to use in store. The UI is not great for browsing, but if you know what you want it isnt hard to find.Inside space was kind of cramped feeling, but they also have a spacious outdoor patio that seemed available to play at.Employees were very helpful!
