Payless Car Rental in other cities:
Terrible. Book online or not at all with these folks. They will take advantage of you and charge double than reserve cost online after waiting in line for an hour bcuz their desk has no customer service. We also received a car with food trash in the backseat and it smelled like smoke. Overall a terrible experience. Don’t use these people or Budget or Avis (they’re all same company)
Let me start off by saying I rent a car about 6 times a year. This is the first and last time I will use payless.I arrive at the car rental counter 10 minutes before my scheduled pickup time. On the counter there a sign that says if closed go to Budget counter. So I make way way over to Budget. Another sign that says if closed go to avis counter. So I make my way over to avis and of course there are about 20 people in line. As Im waiting in line in watching the other(open)rental counters handing out cars with no wait. It took 1.5 hours to get a car! A car I had already reserved!I will give them this: their staff was friendly, but waiting this long for a car rental is just unacceptable to me
HORRIBLE HORRIBLE PLACE TO RENT FROM!!! They say go to Budget to check out a car and then the budget line is soo long and the people incompetent enough that they process a person every ten minutes!! You will find yourself waiting for more than 3 hour!!! STAY AWAY FROM PAYLESS!!!
RECENT ENCOUNTER!!! I repeat do not rent cars from here. I went to a wedding November 6- rented a car for one day. I come home the next day a one day car rental and I have a bill for 1200 dollars. I’ve been getting nothing but the run around for a credit card reversal and personally I feel scammed. All that glitters isn’t gold I thought I had got something so affordable but they ended up charging me for a 5 day rental instead of one. Make it make sense!!! Save your money and headache and rent from somewhere else. They don’t deserve a one but it was the lowest I could do.
I made a car reservation. After coming to pick it up I could not get it. None knew where it is. I was provided another and then charged $50 more ($290 instead $236). Even more I was provided a car which was dirty. You know what it does mean during the pandemic. Now Im calling into service to know about overcharging and have to wait 20 mins. Horror!
Worst car rental experience of my life...and Im STILL in line waiting to (hopefully) get the vehicle I reserved. Low quality, SCAM level operation...no one at desk, refer you to the Budget line...which is monstrous! Two zombies working at the speed of smell at the counter....you know, standard American customer service these days. Called and waited FOREVER to the customer service center (what else did I have to do?)...the agent on the phone was useless. Said my ONLY option was to wait in line...no express check in, no cancellation, no other option. So here I am....going on a little over an hour. Real score....MINUS 5 stars.
Counter agent was great, manager was a rude and shouldnt work a public facing job. Car rentals were tight they charged me 2x the going rate because they could. Manager told me take it or leave it and went and hid behind a door... Didnt have choice, wont use them again.
0 stars!! NEVER AGAIN!! Charged me double, said I agreed to insurance but when I asked them to send me a copy of where I signed for that they said they would waive it, supposedly I returned a day late so I had to send pictures of my boarding pass to show I left the previous day. All of this caused my bank account to be overdrawn and had to call my bank to get overdraft fees returned. HORRIBLE!!!
If I could give zero stars I would. I am so upset with this company. Last week I made a reservation for my trip to Mexico on the Southwest app. When I arrived at the Cancun airport I was told that the Payless office was two miles away from the airport and that I would need to call for them to send the shuttle. When I called the office number listed, it was not the Payless office. I tried three other phone numbers and all of the lines were disconnected. Finally, someone else told me I needed to take a taxi to the office. Without any other choice, I paid $55 for someone to take me 2 miles. When we arrived at the address, there was no Payless.I ended up spending an extra $200 + $55 to rent a car from a company I have never heard of. The man at this company told me that the Payless had been unavailable for many months. It is unbelievable to me that I was able to successfully make a reservation at a company that apparently does not exist in Cancun. It completely ruined the entire first day of my trip.I will never ever ever book with Payless again, and will tell everyone I know to avoid them.
I couldn’t be more dis-satisfied.I “rented” a car and called TEN times to confirm that I could be 23 years old and use a debit cardWhen I arrived, they said this was untrue. I called customer support and they stated AGAIN (while I was in front of the manager) that I COULD. The manager explained I was unfortunately given the wrong info. I was left with a screaming toddler and had to pay for my own cab. (Could take up to 10 days to get my refund) insane. 100% their fault and they did nothing to make up for it.I will never in my life use this company (that doesn’t even know their own policy) EVER AGAIN.For anyone else in my shoes, use the app Turo if you’re under 25.DO NOT RENT HERE .
We waited 1 hour and a half to get our car. Line was very long. They only had 2 employees working the desk between payless, budget and Avis.If you get a car through here, I would highly, HIGHLY recommend either going somewhere else for rental or paying the extra to get premium to skip past the line. The car ran just fine.
Dishonest and terrible. The pickup truck is old (30k miles) had obvious scratches and damage on receiving it around the truck bed, documented everything. We return the vehicle and there is no attendant (during business hours even). Then we get an email, they then turn us over to their claims company (sedgwick) and say we damaged the vehicle and have to pay for the damage. A total joke. Total scammers. Do not use payless car rental unless you love being mistreated.
There was a lot of confusion when we picked up our, three care rental companies were working the same booth and the person we went to had to wait until the other person was done using the computer. Next, the car we reserved 10 days prior wasn’t available- they wanted to put us in a mini van. We asked if we could just pay for an upgrade and were told no, they only had 1 car left and it was a mini van. There were three other couples behind us that heard this and they were all freaking out because they had also rented from Payless, the woman that was helping us told them to be quiet and she would “deal” with them in a minute. Then she said, ok we have another car for you, it was a Ford Flex and we said ok. The car was wet, just came from the car wash, the inside was dirty. They handed the keys, didn’t go over the car with us to do any inspection or anything. Once we took the car to a car wash and had it properly cleaned, it was great. The return experience was really nice and easy.
There was no one to receive the car on dropoff. I waited in line for the kiosk for awhile, before realizing that line was for picking up cars not dropping off cars. So I just asked the guy behind the counter (while serving another person) what to do with the car and he said just leave the keys in and go. Then I got charged an extra hour for no reason.
IF I COULD GIVE 0 STARS I WOULD. I agreed to paying $278 for a one day rental...returned car 4 hours early and filled up. Took pics of return and time. Took pics of filling up gas. Have my receipts.I was charged $278 and then an addition $414!!!! The $414 I never agreed to.Calling for dispute tomorrow with my bank. I have talked to an associate at Payless and he just said email me the photos of proof.
DO NOT BOOK WITH PAYLESS, BUDGET, OR AVIS (all the same company)!!!I booked a Standard vehicle (Jetta or similar) and received an Intermediate vehicle (Ford Ecosport,) yet was still charged the larger vehicle price. I filled the gas tank and returned it with more gas than when I received it, yet was still charged for fuel. Most rental car companies have a grace period if you return it a little after youre supposed to...they nickel and dime you for everything. Were in a pandemic and the car was supposed to be sanitized, yet there was glitter on the headrests and greasy finger/hand prints on the inside of the windshield. I couldnt even put my carry on suitcase in the trunk it was such a tiny clown car.EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED!!!
When I returned the rental car to Payless at the Austin airport, the attendant refused to give me a receipt or any type of documentation that I had returned the car. He told me that a receipt would be emailed. No receipt was emailed (amusingly I did receive an email from them for a survey). When I checked my debit card later, I found Id been overcharged. Called them, and they emailed a receipt. Turns out they charged me for 2 extra hours, when, in fact, I had returned the car more than 2 hours EARLY. It was physically impossible for me to have returned the car when they said I did, as I was on a plane, in the air at the time. When I called them again, I was told that Payless has no phone number for customer service, all they could do is open up a customer service ticket and the complaint would be addressed within 24-72 hours. THEY NEVER ADDRESSED THE COMPLAINT. I gave them more than a week to do so. I finally went to my bank to dispute the charge. Fortunately, I had a receipt for gas (purchased near the airport, with date & time), a copy of a text Id sent my husband right after returning the car stating that I had just returned the car, and a copy of my plane reservation, clearly showing that it was impossible for me to have still even been in the state of Texas at the time Payless claimed Id returned the car. Was told it could take 90 for the disputed charge to be reviewed, but it was resolved in a little over a week, no doubt because I had rock solid documentation. My advice -- steer clear of this deceitful & fraudulent company.
Worst rental car company Ive ever experienced. It said the rental company was in the Lovefield Terminal when reserving the vehicle. Not only was it not in the terminal, no rental company was present in the terminal. The address listed online was incorrect. Ironically, there was a second address listed. It was incorrect, as well. After wasting 45 minutes attempting to find this rental company to get the car I reserved to get on the road, I found the smallest signage indicating Payless was stationed inside of the Budget Rental Car company. Notably, only after the bus moved which was blocking the sign each time I passed. I encountered an unpleasant worker whose customer service was subpar. I checked out my car an hour later putting me on the road behind schedule. It doesnt get better! When reviewing my account this evening, I noticed a charge from this company in the amount of $200. Nearly $100 above my rental agreement. I reviewed and reread the entire agreement to be assured of the terms. Nothing in the agreement indicates these charges were agreed to or are allowable.I proceeded to call Payless about these charges. After proceeding through the automated prompts and waiting for the next available customer service representative, the line disconnects. I am not shocked based on todays experience, but I am not pleased. I will follow up with a phone call tomorrow and will never use this company again.
DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY! I wish I could give Payless 0 stars because my experience with them was terrible. Upon arriving at the rental desk, was ushered to a different companys desk and had to wait in line for over an hour. Upon returning the car, I waited in the parking garage for 15 minutes looking for a representative to tell me where to deposit the keys and if I needed to file a receipt for fuel. Found one employee who told me to just leave the keys in the car and go. Next day I check my credit card statement and they have charged me for LITERALLY DOUBLE what I agreed to on the receipt ($160 instead of $83). Called multiple phone numbers where nobody had any history of what the charges were. Had to file an online claim and wait 72 hours to hear from the company. Found out that they charged me $65 for not refueling even though I had refueled at the closest ExxonMobile that is located right outside of the entrance to the airport. Had to send in receipts electronically. Charge still hasnt been dropped.Long story short, DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY! Their fuel policy is a total scam and completely in place so as to squeeze money out of unsuspecting customers.
****TAKE MY WORD - RENT FROM SOMEONE ELSE*** First of all, when we arrived at the airport, the Payless kiosk was closed and we ended up waiting in line for the lone person working at the Avis desk. That said, all the employees we dealt with were very nice including Eddie the customer service representative that I talked to on the phone. When I returned the car, I did not wait to get a printed copy of my receipt because the only person on duty was busy writing up another persons dented car and there were 4 other cars waiting. However, upon receiving my emailed receipt, I discovered that they had charged me for refueling when I had clearly told them that I would take care of that myself. They even charged me for 13 gallons of fuel which they could not have possibly put into that tank after I had just filled it up. I dont think that we even put 30 miles on the car. Totally outrageous! I called customer service and filed a report that they will supposedly review. Save yourself this headache and rent from a different rental company!
I had a great experience with Payless at the Austin, TX airport. There was no rep available on arrival but the Budget agent helped us right away. The rep was professional, friendly, and got me to my car within 15 minutes. Only thing is that I was sold the tolls which I did not need so I ended up paying more than I had originally bargained for and after reading these reviews I am going to go over my bill again to make sure I was not charged for gas as I did fill up the tank.On another note, I was surprised at how difficult it was to get someone for road assistance, thankfully the car started up or this review might be different. Their phone support is horrible! Once checked in though, the car was very clean, good value and the return was extremely easy. I would use them again.
STAY AWAY. I pre-paid approx. $89 online for my rented vehicle and ended up paying over $300 with hidden fees after 1 day extension. I wouldve much rather walked to the airport and avoided the additional $200+ fees they applied onto my bill without informing me and providing me a false new amount for my updated invoice. Plus, they dont tell you about a $100 deposit at the time of check-in. NEVER AGAIN.
These people receive zero stars. Pay more money for another rental company. These people are a joke. Allow me to explain:- When I reached the check-in counter, the dude bombarded me with additional fees that I tried to decline but got so overwhelmed, things were missed.- I prepaid for gas with the understanding that if I still brought it back full I wouldnt be charged for a whole tank of gas. That still happened.- Im currently challenging the charge. They asked for a gas receipt. Isnt it the responsibility of the staff member to note that the tank is full?- Im challenging the charge through my credit card now. When attempting to get an 3-receipt from Payless, they said it would take 4 hours. How does it take 4 hours to send me a receipt of a charge I already paid for.Stay the hell away. This company is a SCAM.
Never had such a hassle renting a car. I rented 2 passenger vans 2 months ago (and pre-payed). I waited in the line for 30 minutes. Get to the front desk, the rep said I could not change the names on my reservation, since the drivers were not there with me. (They were flying in later that day due to flight delays). He recommended I call customer service. I step out of line to call. The rep on the phone proceeded to tell me that I could not rent 2 vans and she would have to cancel one of them. I said are you kidding me?? I made this reservation 2 months ago and pre-payed. She continues to tell me I could not rent to vans. I hung up on her and go back in the line that was now 20 people long. I was in line again for 30-45 min waiting to see the rep. Then finally the rep handled the situation like he should have in the beginning. Waste of time and energy. The hassle was not worth the savings. I will not use Payless Car Rental again.
After reading an article from ABC News that they and their parent company Avis were being investigated for adding all sorts of hidden fees at the counter after drop-off, I did the smart thing and canceled my reservation. Costco car rental service gave me a way better deal. Im willing to wager that even if they dont add hidden fees, their cars are probably not safe for long-distance travel. Better look elsewhere yall!
If there were negative or no star option, that would be the case here. My wife and I visited San Diego, we booked a cheap car, we knew we just needed something to tool around in for the weekend. Low expectations going into our reservation. First thing we saw was the long line at the counter, while the joke-ster behind the counter was throwing pens and running his mouth to other co-workers, and even us when we got to the counter (very unprofessional). We were asked 4 times if we wanted to upgrade as the option we chose did not come with power windows/locks. (Crazy its 2019!) Denied each time, maybe that is why they stuck us with a 2017 Nissan Sentra, that was beat up, dents all over, no spare tire with no power windows/locks (surprise!). We were also asked multiple times if we wanted to purchase their gas, as it was cheaper I asked the gentleman the first time how much gas was in California, he replied oh, its at least $4-5 a gallon out there, but if you buy it here it will only be 3$ or so a gallon again we denied as trust was already lost with the first impressions. Come to find out we paid 3.35 for gas in the city, so again completely lied to us. On top of this we had to pay a $250 deposit, and $165 for the two days we had the car complete rip-off this company should not exist, please do not make the same mistake we did, and use a trusted Enterprise, National, or Avis.
We reserved a car ahead of time. When we arrived at the counter, there were seven people ahead of us in line. After an hour, there were still two people ahead of us, so we went to the Advantage rental counter next door and had a car within a few minutes for $8 more per day. There was only one worker and he left the counter for several minutes every once in a while. The Advantage workers told us that if we didn’t prepay, the guy at the counter would have just told us they ran out of cars. The counter appeared shabby and run down. The whole experience was supremely unpleasant. Spend the extra $8/day. It’s worth it.
They had no one working the counter and at drop off of the car they had no one to receive you. I went to a different car rental company and asked if I just leave car she said yes just leave the keys but it was just not the same without having someone there. Other rental companies had people working the booths
This is the worst company I have ever rented from. We waited 45 minutes in line at the airport and were greeted by uninterested and rude staff. We were grossly overcharge and they made no effort to make it right. They “approved” things like additional insurance and additional driver fees without our consent and refused to refund us. We had a flat tire on our trip and their road side assistance was totally incompetent, it took them a couple hours just to figure out how to help us. Ridiculous. Save yourself the trouble and go with one of the higher end companies because you’ll actually pay less
Staff at counter was very friendly, courteous and professional. I was greeted promptly and acknowledged as I walked up. Interior of car was clean and priced reasonably. I would definitely rent again wirh Payless the next time. Keep up the great customer service there at ABIA in Austin, Texas!
Spreading the truth about this companies practices and customer service via word of mouth and via social media must be done so this does not happen to other people. They provided no facts, no documentation. They billed me MONTHS later for maintenance and normal ware and tear. I did nothing wrong to that vehicle. They charged me, $241 for a rain sensor solar heated wiper park area. I rented the vehicle for 3 days in the middle of a Texas Summer. How could I have been the cause for a sensor going out? I sent your invoice to Jeep Mechanics and Jeep salesmen. They said I could not have been responsible for what the their invoice listed. There was never even an inspection walkthrough documentation given to me more driving out of the parking garage. The ineptitude, malfeasance and negligence is alarming. STAY AWAY!
I received excellent customer service from employee Sharon. She was so friendly and knowledgeable. Then the car was in excellent condition, which is a basic standard for auto-rental companies, but at such a low price I had a little extra vacation money to spend. An excellent experience.
I just had the most horrible experience with this company. My fiancé and I just waited 1 hour and a half to pick up our car. When we got to the Payless counter, it said to go to the budget counter, at the budget counter, it said to go to the Avis counter. Avis was the only company with a line, at least 25 people were in front of us. Where the other rental company had only one or two people waiting at all time. Not once, did any of they agents mention anything about being sorry for the wait or explaining what was taking so long. After waiting for over 90 minutes, we finally got service. Joe, the agent, was quite rude. Did not apologize for the wait. Then went on to tell us there were no mid size SUV available. So, we would have to get a full size car. And he talked us down like he was making us a favor. I’ve worked in hospitality for number of years. I know for a fact he was not making me a favor, it is just standard procedure. When I tried to request a full-size SUV, because of the wait and the failure to meet expectations, he just came to my face and yelled that he was not going to do anything for us and to take the car. Trying to convince me the full size car was already much better than the SUV. We walked through their parking lot, saw multiple mid size SUV everywhere and got to an old KIA optima! Seriously A KIA. I am so disappointed by the service we received today, I am never renting with Payless or Budget or Avis ever again. If I could give you zero I would.
Car was fine, workers were fine, except they screwed me on the FUEL SVC OPTION. Its a SCAM - the salesperson didnt mention this, but ALWAYS FULL UP WITHIN 5 MILES OF THE AIRPORT, else its $10 per gallon to refill, or the full price of the option, $43 in my case. I returned the car full - needle past the F - and they charged me anyway. Telephone Customer Service was no help because they say they cant see the receipt. So now Ill have to waste more valuable time dealing with this. Skip that option or rent elsewhere (which is what I will do going forward.)
I rent cars every other week and Ive never had any of these issues. They double-charged me. They made me drive an hour to provide proof of liability insurance when I couldve e-mailed it (Apparently the screen on my phone is more legitimate than their computer screens?). When you call, if the folks at the counter are busy it automatically transfers you to the reservation center (or something like that) and they have no way of directing you back to the counter or to put you on hold at the counter. The customer service agent literally told me, Call back in 10-20 minutes and HOPEFULLY the counter will be available. When I described the absurdity of me repeatedly calling and going through the process to HOPEFULLY get a desk agent in Austin, she didnt understand how ridiculous it was.On a more sketchy note. My friend who had just rented from the Austin airport didnt have to show any proof of liability insurance, so why was I charged $16 for this per day, until I was able to drive back to the counter in Austin to take care of this? We both have a company paid for insurance that works everywhere else. No other Payless will every receive my business.
I rented the car for 6 day but returned it 3 days in advance. I also called before returning to know how much payless is going to charge me , they said $239 but you charged me $357 I have called several times for refund. Payless is taking notes of my complaint but no body has refunded me any thing. I will be renting car again in April.
We rented a car at the Austin airport. After being told that I could not drop the car during nonbusiness hours, went to return and no one was there to take my car back! Followed the directions and left keys and contract there with a FULL TANK OF GAS. A few days later was checking my Credit Card statememt and had an $80 charge after I had already paid for the rental in full. We had never received a bill or any communication from them. Called the main number who had no idea and could not get someone at the office in Austin. They said they would call back in 2 to 3 days. Ofcourse that did not happen, so we called them back. They said the charge was for gas after we filled it up AND never got any communication. After an arguement around wanting us to upload receipts they finally said they would refund it... ok fine. Days later NO REFUND! We once again called back and they didnt know. We can check the status by going to a website where inputting the information they gave us, which also did not work. Forget it, we will dispute with our CC. Rented cars with a ton of different companies and NEVER had such a poor experience on multiple different levels. Never again...
Never had such a bad experience with a rental car as I did here... and I travel quite frequently. They claim I returned my car a full 27 hours later than I actually did. They also billed me over $100 for fuel charges when I filled up at the gas station RIGHT outside the airport entrance and the tank was OVER full when I returned it. That right there tells me they are 100% shady lying thieves and probably pull this on every single car hoping that only 50% or so will catch it and bother with filing a dispute on their website.I am a military employee and our entire command will NEVER utilize this company to rent a vehicle from again. This is a downright fraudulent attempt to rip-off the US Government.AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS.
The worst car rental company. I booked a car online and was given a price for one day rental, the car was brought back on time and completely full. I received my receipt after drop off and was it amounted to another full days rental after they applied bogus fees. I tried to contact them by phone and after several attempts, a very rude rep answered and directed me to the Austins phone number. Needless to say, no one picked up so I followed up with a complaint, It has been almost 2 weeks and Ive still not heard from them. They deserve no stars but I have to give one to post this review. Do not use this car rental company.
Dropped car off at the airport, company never sent me receipt as promised. When I called to ask for receipt, rental was still open. Instead of fixing situation, they picked an arbitrary return time and charged me for an extra day! Opened a customer service ticket with no resolution. Unbelievably bad service especially for active duty military customer. Paid $200 for a 1 day rental which included charging $37 for refuel when needle was still on full.
Shocking, rude and dishonest car rental company. Firstly, the customer service attendant could not use their computer system correctly, so we lost about 25 minutes while he was trying (and failing) to enter my license details. He just stood there staring at my license. Thankfully when the manager finally arrived she sorted it out. When we got the car it was filthy inside and out but drove well enough. The real shock was that the manager blatantly lied to us about the cost to refuel at the end, and having a morning flight, we did not have the time to go find a gas station.
This people are scammer. The person in the desk lie to us. He told that if we did not take the road side assistant insurance and we had a flat we would be in trouble as there was no spare tire in the car because of Lisa’s most people do not know how to change a tire. After checking in the trunk of our rental car there was a tire and the necessary equipment in the car so we went black and had the insurance removed. He also had us pre pay the for a full tank of gas under return but if we brought the car back full they would reinforce the charge. On returning the car full we were only reimbursed for the amount the money to top the car off for which we had just done and had a receipt . The rest of the other money they did not reimburse even do he could see the tank was full. Stay away, this is a scammer company!!!
One star because the first rental I had went fine, the person was professional, and it was cheap and worked fine. The SECOND (a family emergency made me change plans), should get ZERO-- the person lied to me, and didnt use the word insurance when adding fees on, until I caught her and said, wait did you just put insurance on there, I dont need any additional anything, and she mumbled something and handed me the contract to sign with what I thought were the usual number of decline initialed spots- but when I went to drop off the car it was $40 more than I was quoted, and the guy said we put that on every car (a total lie since that didnt happen the last time with the one honest employee). He said I had pay the amount he told me and said to call customer service- who then told me when I called that they would send and email to management to get me a refund. Which I am still awaiting.
First, there was no one at Payless desk at Austin Bergstrom Airport, so I had to go to Avis desk. Then, they wouldnt provide me the SUV I booked, but a Caravan! After 2 weeks of use, I wanted to extend my rental for another week and it took me around 5 calls to make this happen. And at the delivery, I again found no one at the desk and basically was told to just leave the car (again, by Avis people). The last and the worst, I was over-charged and had to pay another 2 weeks-worth money for that extension 1-week. What else could go wrong? Such a shame.
No one was at the Payless booth at the Mpls airport. Had to wait in Avis line for nearly an hour (though there were only a few parties ahead of me). Then the car in the spot they sent me to was not the correct car. Had to go back to counter. Was nearly 90 minutes before I was actually driving from terminal. On way back, while returning the car, the outside agent that meets returning drivers was not able to check me in. Had to go back through the Avis line again, which took close to an hour just to get my receipt. No clue why I had to go through the terminal counter wait again...
I truly did Payless for my car rental. The other car rentals were significantly more. I wish I had found this Co. a week before when I also rented a car from Alamo that cost more even with a discount. The only difficult part was the location being at the Airport. I had to take the bus ride for a total of about 3 hour round trip ride. However, the bus was only $2.50 each way. The only thing I wish is that they had other locations outside of the airport.
I received a letter in the mail stating that I owed for 2 days of a car rental from Austin TX, and threatening to put it on my credit if not paid. I have never even been to Austin TX, or rented a car on the dates they said. I have proof from my credit cards that I was using them in person where I live in Tampa FL the days the claim I had the car. When have you ever been able to rent a car without an ID or without paying for the vehicle first? Called the Austin rental counter and was told to call the police. Really? Because they care about my credit. There is not even a corporate phone number you can call to talk with someone, nor did the collections letter include one. Only an address to write a letter to. Who writes letters anymore?! Terrible customer service.
Took 30 minute to pick up vehicle eventhough i made reservation online, needed to extend rental for a few more days, called Austin location 6 times just to be redirected to their call center every time, they told me my only option was to go to the airport location and extend my rental in person. Staff at call center said they had no record of my rental and were not very nice about it. I dont have to rent cars often but will definitely not be using them again.
Absolutely awful experience! Rented car, arrived after 10:00 pm from my flight and there was a long line....to learn they had no cars. Told me to rent from another company that was much more expensive then went back to talk to Payless person, who said well your reservation was prepaid so you have already been charged (for a car they did not have)...told me to go upstairs to talk to Manager, waited in another long line to learn that he could not help and to call 800#. When I called the 800#person was rude and hostile from the moment he picked up the phone and insisted my reservation was not prepaid...and could not help me. Can NOT recommend payless any less.....
The worst experience in years if renting. Booked a vehicle for travel over Christmas. Payless had really cheap rates which meant excess cars when booked the night before. I showed up and they would not honor the reservation and said they were out of cars (found people willing to pay more I am guessing). So unless you can risk no wheels for business or leisure, I would never take the chance of renting from these guys no matter how cheap the rates they advertise.
We didnt book in advance and were told by other car companies at the airport that an impromptu 2 day rental would be $150 to over $200. Lesley worked with us to find a reasonable price, $120. And a car I really liked. She was very professional and really made us feel that she cared.
Would give them a zero if I could. Their window at the Austin airport was closed with a sign to go to the Budget window. Waited nearly an hour with only two people ahead of me. Just got my credit card statement and they charged me twice!!!!!!!!!!!! Incompetence at its best! I will stay with Enterprise in the future. Never had a single problem with them.
If I could give them 0 stars I would!!! Stay away from this fraud ass company! I was given great customer service by KEFFER! He worked with me on a very busy day as well. I can give them that! He is a great employee! But I was told that for 1 DAY I was going to pay $93.96 when I was charged over $260! I sent in a trouble ticket and they still have yet to tell me what all I was being charged for! I was also told that all cars come with insurance and such that I could not accept or decline them. Then the customer service ppl tell me I could....but that is not what was told to me. If you feel like paying for 3 days for 1 24 hour period go ahead. But please if you can stay away from this company! FRAUDS!
Worst customer service of any experience of any company ever. Ever. Took thirty minutes to get car because the printer wasnt working. The guy at the desk was clearly miserable. Nobody there to take car when I returned. Had to go back to desk. Guy took keys and said he would email me receipt. I asked him to confirm my email address. He didnt have it. He had exactly zero intention of sending me anything. Then the worst part. There was water on the floor at the desk. I slipped. Embarrassing and painful. Neither person at the Payless desk even acknowledged it. They just stared at me. Beyond bad service. Human rude. I wish negative stars were possible. Ive never walked away from a customer service experience in physical pain.
I booked my car through orbitz for $138.00. Somehow my bill was $250.00 with a crazy amount of taxes and roadside assistant that I didnt agree to.I returned the car with a full tank and was told Id be reimbursed for their initial gas fee and now they want me to provide a bank statement showing I bought the gas. How does that make sense??What a rip off!!!!
Be careful if you plan to rent from this Payless or Budget rental car in Austin. I had a rental agreement with this company through hotwire, but Payless was closed when we arrived in Austin so we were switched to the Budget rental car counter. The Rep. at the Budget counter must have been trying to up his sales numbers, because the didnt have any cars in the category I agreed to so he kept trying to upsale us. We made it clear that we had shopped long and hard for the price that was noted on my invoice, so he said that he would have to give us a SUV for the price already agreed to. It was a long flight, late in the evening and a long line, because remember the Payless desk is closed so all the customers from Payless and Budget are in the Budget line. I not only was charged an extra $60 that I did not agree to, I was charged a fuel charge, and my car was returned pass full. Sometimes cheaper is not cheaper. If I were you, I would go with National or Enterprise Rental, at least you will get better customer service. I called the company to complain, and they told me to take it and like it. I dont think so! That $76 is not going to break me, but I can guarantee it will be a stain on your brand. Thats what I get for trying to save a dollar. I will dispute the charges with American Express, hotwire and sound the alarm on all my social media sites. Google, Facebook, Instagram, tweeter and yelp!Disgruntled customer,Joan Childress
I have been trying to find out if they will be open when I drop my rental off. I called them, and the lady on the phone told me that they do not except after hours returns. With this being said, it is an international airport in Austin Texas. I am tryin I have been trying to find out if they will be open when I drop my rental off. I called them, and the lady on the phone told me that they do not accept after hours returns. With this being said, it is an international airport in Austin Texas. People fly out at all hours. They did not tell me this when I rented the car. I cannot change my flight. To top it off, the lady told me to call a phone number to get a hold of the Austin office. After I wrote the number down and we hung up, I realized it was the same number that I just called. Wow. My recommendation is just stay away from this company. Terrible customer service. The lady on the phone barely spoke English. Don’t go this route. Save yourself the trouble.
I rent at Austin Texas and return st Louis MO. I call customer service let them know I was going to different location they told me I dont have to do anything just take it to st Louis MO AIRPORT. AND NOW CHARGE ME OVER $855 FOR 1 DAY BECAUSE REPORT THE CAR WAS MISSING
I was overcharged more than $50 after returning the car on time, with more gas than it had when I rented it. I was sure to verify with the clerk that I would only be charged what I was quoted if I bring the car back with a full tank. Now I have to dispute the charge. Check your credit card statements carefully!
Pay the extra couple of bucks and go anywhere else. Poor selection. Junk cars. I booked third party and was still up charged. I was sent out in a dirty vehicle with 40,000 miles on it. Soon as Im on the highway the front end starts shaking. I call customer service and they tell me to call Payless. Payless doesnt answer I call back they tell me to keep calling until I get ahold of someone. Jeez is this a legit business? No its not.Wont happen again.
Pretty bad service. I took a car and found there is a broken on the front windshield after I drove it out of garage. And I went back ask for changing car. But they asked me to file an accident report on that finding. I thought it may be something usual and they just wanted to have a record on my finding, so I did it. But finally they charge me and say it is me who made the damage!! Bad car with bad service.
I have had a horrible experience with this company in trying to get a refund. Insurance was inadvertently charged to our rental, and the process to get the refund has been an absolute nightmare. After we thought we put a ticket in for a refund, it turns out that ticket was never placed. From this point on we made sure to document every person we were talking to. As we kept getting the run around when calling the call center, this list became quite large. Almost every person at the call center had a horrible attitude towards me; like i was trying to pull one over on them, when I was simply trying to get my problem resolved quickly. Every time you ask a question about your order you need to wait 72 business hours for a response. A long resolution time is due to ineptness of the people at the call center coupled with this wait. This issue still has not been properly resolved.
I made a reservation for an economy size car and you guys dont even have one available when I made the reservation. How is that possible? Then yall blame it on Priceline. Please.....dont blame other people for your problems. Had to spend more money for a bigger size vehicle. Yall should have upgraded me for free.
Absolutely terrible service at the Austin airport. I would give them zero stars if possible. There were only a couple people in front of us. They closed with one person in front and made us move to the Avis counter. They closed again and made us move to another counter. It took over 45 min to finally get through and get to our car.
I arrived at the Austin airport and went to retrieve the car I rented a month previously only to find out that it had already been rented out. They upsolded me to a premium car which was really a standard car that was dirty, scratched up, and still had the previous renters personal items in it. I was given the run around about a partial refund and gave up. I will never rent from them or Budget again. Steer clear of these companies...
Austin TX. Weeknight. Picking up a reserved car at the airport. 8:15 pm. Counter closed. No one there. Look around. A small handmade sign directs us up the escalator then the elevator to the key return kiosk. No one there. Look around. Another small handmade sign has aphone number . Call the number and a young woman answers. Directs to walk to the car exir. Lug our bags across the lot. A man looks up from his phone. Finds our reservation finally. Sneezes on the keyboard. Asks for my ID and CC. Gives me te rental contract to an unwashed KIA. Get inside and wipe down the car, assuming the inside is unwashed too. Leave. Maybe instead of Payless it should be Expectless.
I had asked for a midsize suv, when I got there it wasn’t available. So the employee said he had another of the same request.... I said ok as long as it isn’t a small sedan. I got out to where it was parked and there sat a pickup?????? Really.... I had to go back, and thank heavens got a much more pleasant and helpful young man. He got me set up in a small suv...at this point I just took it and left. If booking your rental car through American turns out like this I won’t book through them again.
This company is a Scam. Avoid them, They charged me 127% more than I was quoted. Customer service is a nightmare, good luck trying to get a a hold of them to resolve anything, wasnt until I filed a dispute that they answered to my credit card company (but not me). Representative at the kiosk that I signed the paperwork with lied to me saying that my quote would be my final price.
DO NOT RENT from Payless (or Budget) in Austin - no employees working to check in returned cars or give receipts. Returned car full and they hit me with an extra $79 in fuel charges. Customer service useless - no recourse but to dispute the charge with the bank. SCAMMERS!
Do not rent from this place. It is a scam. They make money off of charging you bogus fuel charges. They are never there when you return the car and when you receive a receipt, they charge you $300 worth of fuel charges even you returned the car back full. Just avoid the trouble and rent from another company.
I wouldnt rent from anyone else. Half the price of enterprise, hertz, etc., or any other major car rental company.Ive been renting from Payless at ABIA for over 2 years now. Forst couple of times was for Leasiure. The last two times where due to an auto accident, I was also hit in the rental when I was renting for my accident. ( boy thats a whole other Story)Granted their phone support SUX!, and the filing report via email/online also kind of sux but they do get back to you.If your having larger problems, I personally have and would go into the location and someone WILL help you, and give you copies for your record.
Terrible customer service. You cant reach anyone at the actual Austin office, they just route you to their call center and dont help you at all. My father is elderly and left his cane in the rental car. He needs it to get around and there is no way to reach anyone at the office to help us. Stay far away from this company. Pay a couple extra dollars a day for a company that isnt shady and actually helps their customers.
Friendly Service with hidden fees thrown on. Yeah, it’s the cheapest at booking, but it’s got to be the most expensive one n the end.Nice scam they are running, exploit people in a hurry by rushing them through fine print and “helping them out the door”.....Even the service techs where quick to point out how much you pay in fees, “Yeah, they don’t tell you that.”
No one was there when I returned to the Austin airport to drop my car off, so I left my keys in the car and left. I never received a receipt via email (just a survey from Payless corporate). I just now checked my credit card and I was charged $105 when the quote I originally got was for $55. Ive been on hold for 10 minutes trying to get this sorted out.
They have the worst customer service that I have ever seen, they hang up on you when they get sick and tired of hearing your case.I rented a car fromantic themy and went to my hotel straight from the Airport. The very next day my family and I wanted to explore the City Of Austin TX, so we went down to start the car up and it would not. So I called road side assistance and 5 hours later they picked us up with a tow truck then we had to drive 50 minutes back to the airport then they had the nerve to try to make us pay for the tow truck (but I wasnt having it) they refuse to reimburse our money even tho they had no car for us to use because they were all rented out.
If I could give a zero I would, I drove to the airport and it was a disaster. Finding out where to get the car sucked, they give you no information about where to go. I parked at the airport and I called them and when I got to the agent on the phone he acted like he didnt hear me and hung up. THEY ARE SUPER RUDE.
Great customer service at the pick up place. But horrible customer service over the phone. The woman I talked to was super rude and was giving me attitude. When I wanted to extend my rental by a day. Will not rent from you guys again. Based off my experience on the phone with you guys.
My car came with a faulty tire with the tread separating on the sidewall. Instead of having a spare in the trunk or bringing a spare out so my mechanic husband could change it they sent a tow truck with a new car and switched cars out. Then they proceeded to charge me $360.30. I am disputing it. Stay far away from this place!
Terrible Car Rental company. Made a reservation using Hotwire and Payless was the company that got my reservation. After the trip the price that Payless charged was more than the Hotwire confirmation charge. When I called the Austin TX Payless office I was told that Hotwire did not send the reservation to Payless. Payless Austin would not honor the price on the reservation. Hotwire could not fix the problem either. Payless Austin did not say anything about me not getting the Hotwire reservation.
Foresight of business is definitely not one of this company’s strengths at this location as customer complaints about standing in line for over an hour ( I’ve been in line for going on 45 mins now) are being heard. Let’s see how much longer it takes me to reach the front counter, I will update when that journey has been completed.
If I could give zero stars, I would. I work in customer service and know how busy people can get BUT, when Ive called over 20 times throughout the day in an attempt to get the LOCAL OFFICE on the phone, with no luck, it starts to become ridiculous. Every time I immediately get re-routed to the call center even though I have pressed every button or pressed none at all. Once they pick up, they keep directing me to the local office. IF I COULD GET A HOLD OF THE LOCAL OFFICE, I WOULDNT HAVE TO KEEP TALKING TO YOU! Horrible set up they have. I am so glad I never had to waste my money with them. I feel sorry for the call center people that keep getting irritated customers that are just trying to talk to the local office.
I had a situation the day before i flew in town where my wallet, id and credit cards got stolen i had everything i needed to rent car but was told they couldnt rent to me by Demetrius who was just doing his job so i saw Young lady Rasheeda who remembered me from ACE carrental days( i always rent from them when in town) to make a long story short was able to get carrental without any problems thanks to Rasheeda and Demetrius at Austin location really made my trip otherwise i dont know what i would of done Thanks guys.

2021-10-29I reserved a car online and Payless was my last option for a car due to people attending the formula one race that weekend. Right away, I should have known something was wrong. The person who walked me to my rental car did not walk around the car with me to notate any damage, so I had to take pictures and hope for the best. When I went to exit the garage, I was informed that they were out of damage forms. Upon checking my bank account, I realized I was overcharged by $425. I called multiple times throughout the weekend to notify the company of the damage to the car, as well as discuss the overcharge to my card. The first time I called, I requested a call back. That never happened. Over the course of the weekend I spent 3 hours on the phone, all of it on hold. I tried to go to the counter on Monday morning and the sign at their counter said go to the Budget rental car desk. The line was so long I was on hold for 45 minutes and finally got through to someone and I hadn’t moved more than 5 feet in line. The person on the other end of the call listed charges that I explicitly stated I did not want. The receipt I signed did not list those charges and I was unable to get a copy of it at the counter or online. During the phone call I was told I would receive a refund on the upgrades I said I did not want. I’ve just received an email stating I will not get a refund for those upgrades. Don’t waste your time with this place.

2022-07-03Our rental from Payless was great. The pickup process was fairly quick, compared to past rentals Ive had (there was a wait in line but thats going to happen anywhere). The car was in good condition and comfortable. Our 3 am drop-off at the airport was as simple as could be - we just left the keys in the car in the airport rental return lot. Good rental car for a great price.

2022-08-09Worst customer service experience ever. The initial rental pickup/drop off was fine and quick. I had a very minor fender bender and my insurance wanted a copy of the rental agreement, which I never received a copy of. You can not get a hold of anyone useful. No on will answer the phone at the airport and the people at the national customer service number have no ability to do anything useful for you. I tried getting to a manager or supervisor and they passed me around and just hung up on me. I tried many many times with the same result

2022-06-02I am handicapped and had to walk a long way from the terminal to the rental counter. We were told that it was on the 3rd floor but when we got up there, no Payless so we went back down and looked around and eventually saw that the rental counter was in another room. (We had to use the elevator so this was not obvious to us) Payless was the last counter in the room but when we down there, no workers just a sign that said to go to Budget. Then a Budge a sign to go Avis. There was a long line at Avis with just one worker. Finally another worker came and the line moved a little faster. When we got back up to the 3rd floor, it was hard to tell which cars belonged to Payless. Finally we figured it out and got going. The car was fine. However, when we got back to turn the car in, we couldnt figure where to go. We asked several people who were returning cars (They were more helpful than the workers) and finally figure out what to do. This was really an ordeal!

2022-08-09This is a little late but in April, my mother & I were attending a funeral in Indianapolis & we are from Austin. The flights were all oversold & we had to fly to Chicago , rent a car & drive to Indianapolis & then keep keep the car for only a day.We got thrown many curve balls in that short period of time & our 1 day rental needed to turn into 3 days.Needless to say, it was an incredibly stressful time but there was an awesome person named Vega that works in the Indianapolis location & he was able to make all the adjustments to our reservation & was more than helpful, courteous & professional

2022-05-30I would give this place zero stars if I could. We realized we left an item in the car and immediately tried to call the front desk for help. We were routed through a phone tree for OVER 4 HOURS. NO ONE helped us locate out item. Funny enough - the was an Apple AirTag located on the item, and we realized very quickly that it had been stolen by (most likely) one of the Payless Employees and taken to their home. We filed a police report but honestly - shame on this company. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE.

2022-07-09At Austin, TX (AUS) airport the Payless counter was closed and sign was posted to see the Budget counter. Budget counter was also closed and sign posted to go to the 3rd floor Budgets express check-in booth. At 3rd floor Budget booth, I was told they dont serve Payless customers and sent me back to the 1st floor. After spending 45 minutes going up and down between the 1st and 3rd floor to get some help, i was finally told by Payless attendant to go to Avis counter. Why would one post see Budget counter??? I could not expect more ridiculous service in the USA and the whole world as i travel a lot. Even 3rd world countries handing business better. Will never do businesses again with Payless.

2022-07-08The pick-up process was really quick. I appreciated that there were no heavy-handed sales tactics like you get at some other car rental places. And the car was perfect for what I needed. Thanks!

2022-06-02Agent argued with me over what car I reserved. My email said Mazda CX-5 or similar MID-SIZE SUV. She tried to give me a Kia Seltos, little boy SUV. Once I got her to stop arguing and read my email, she went to the reject lot and brought me a filthy, unwashed, Sorrento, which actually qualifies as Mid-Sized BUT it had sneeze all over the steering wheel, pop spilled all over the cruise control buttons, windshield was so dirty (inside & out) that I couldnt see out of it very well at all. Just an absolute train wreck - not recommended! Also - Payless is owned by Avis so Id watch them too. They actually rent one anothers cars.

2022-09-12Don’t do it! Just don’t. They lure you in with cheap prices and then hit you with a ton of fees once you’re there. I didn’t do my homework on the company who is owned by Avis/Budget btw. Also, the location in Newark had less than helpful staff. ZERO STARS!
