Shelter is large but most pets are fostered so check their website
The cleanest accommodations! most friendly, kind, helpful staff ever. pets are so lucky to get to be sheltered there while waiting for their new family. I loved this place. our choice had gotten adopted before our very eyes to a wonderful new home. bitter sweet but we will be back to one day discover our new match. I appreciate, so much, what this shelter provides for us all.
We adopted our old man harley there a while back ago and was the best experiences i ever had i forgot my wallet home so they helo him long enough for me to run across town to get it and they always make u feel welcomed when u walk in
The volunteers and staff are absolutely wonderful people. I was able to adopt an awesome pup who will be my forever companion. They gave me great guidance throughout the whole process and provided some great suggestions and documentation for transitioning my new pup into my home
I adopted one of my dogs from this location and had an excellent experience. I had found my dog online and was told to go to the Town Lake center, only to find my girl had been moved to this center. When I arrived, a volunteer quickly helped me identify the dog I was looking for and got me into the meet and great area. The adoption process was quick but thorough and the volunteers were so helpful and kind. I had an excellent experience. This center is for smaller dogs, just to make that very clear. Dont come here expecting to find big dogs.
Very professional. Kept neat and homey for the animals. You feel that the staff care for animals. They thoroughly explained the process. One can bond with the dog to see if they are a good fit before taking any pet home. Located in a beautiful neighborhood. The cats and dogs are in separate buildings. They have buildings by the size of the dog.

If you havent yet, please consider visiting one of their locations, you can find a new friend to bring gome or just share some love to those adorable animals!If you cant help in person, you can always donate through their website or even just help sharing their posts on social media!Really worth the effort to help save lives!!!

Great group that is keeping Austin a No kill city with their hard working volunteers and programs. We have had many foster cats through them and they have been very helpful with everything when fostering. Its not only a great group but also a great community that is in it for the long run in Austin. We had previously adopted a wonderful cat through them and we cant recommend them enough!
Adopted the best addition to our family here! They specialize in smaller dogs, & I live in an apartment so their pups were the BEST selection for me! The staff was extremely helpful and they let you spend 1 on 1 time with the dog so that you can be sure the dog is a good fit. They are also very well informed on each dog and can give you a medical and behavioral history of each pup. Annie helped us find the perfect guy for our home.
They are some of the most hardworking and selfless individuals that I been blessed to encounter. They are profoundly dedicated to providing and/finding a forever home for homeless animals. Also, the volunteers are AWESOME!
We got our sweetest Chihuahua mixed at this location. The staff is very friendly and accommodative. They love all the animals in their care. The shelter is kept clean.

The lady warned me that a dog barks, but didnt tell the dog doesnt like men. I got bit. The people were very nice though.

Austin Pets Alive is the quintessential Austin pet rescue. Having lived in this city my whole life I have seen APA grow in size and scope with a massive army of employees and volunteers that donate lots of time and effort to save these wonderful pets-to-be. If youre looking for a lifetime friend there are always dogs and cats that just want a forever home. APA has done wonders for the reputation of shelter animals like the smiley, goofy pit bull!

We lost our dog and they were really helpful, they let us look around with no problems. The animals here need a good home, more of a selection of cats than dogs but every pet deserves a good home

In central wealthy area that used to be a shopping center. Good for the animals, bad for the aging population around this local site. The shopping centers owner inherited Tarringtown Shopping Center & immediately let the area know she was a rabid vegan & would NOT allow any meat, leather, caviar, etc be sold in HER new domain. Weird tho that the stocks & bonds office can still sell...pork futures. Shes rich, lives in Houston, and doesnt care about that neighborhood. Read Kelsos columns regarding her actions. Funny?
What an effort by the people of Austin. Although understaffed and under contributions via donations. This place will leave you with a permanent place in your heart. Always consider adopting.
I am a volunteer for this organization and have been so impressed with the amount of work they do with volunteers and the wonderful care the dogs get. I am proud to be a part of this organization.
Wonderful place to find a cat. (We didnt go to the dog building.) You can visit with the cats before you decide. No adoption fee!

The foster will NOT reserve a wanted pet for you. They put it in pet store and You have to push and fight other people over a wanted pet. Not worth it.
Volunteer was EXTREMELY rude when I was looking to adopt a dog. I was looking at the dogs in the cage and he started yelling at me for looking at the dogs. Wouldnt recommend going here at all!
If I won the lotto I would donate a ton of money to this organization. They put the animals first and this group of volunteers perform miracles.

They dont have much to choose from, they mostly have chihuahuas for those who do and dont want to select from.

2019-11-27I am happy with my baby Maya, whom I adopted from APA. The service on the other hand is...Im just glad Mylo & I have Maya now!She is so sweet, and playful with Mylo. Also, she is not against males (as I was told at the shelter) for she really has connected with me. She is such a cutie!
