Petes Dueling Piano Bar in other cities:
MORE GUITARS THAN PIANOS. PAY COVER TO ENTER TO BE TALKED DOWN TO BY EMPLOYEESDid not see “dueling pianos” at all as their name says.Rarely played piano, only seemed the performers wanted to play guitar. Would’ve rather played their own songs than songs patrons paid money to request.Rude busboy with long hair accosted myself and friend at 1:55am. Telling us that we were “annoying him” and that we “needed to be quiet”. Other than the waitress, poor staff and bartender experience.Female waitress was excellent and worked to resolve drink order that bartender made that tasted like cough syrup. If you want a cocktail made correctly, don’t come here. Ordered a hurricane, and was given cough syrup that consisted of rum and grenadine, even though the ingredients to a hurricane was listed on their menu. Nice to spend $30 on 2 of those when I could’ve gone to Walgreens for NyQuil at a fraction of the cost for the same taste.
Loved this bar! Definitely a must do for anyone visiting. The band was spectacular and played a wide variety of music. There was lots of bar staff and girls walking around with jello shots. If you want to have a table on the main floor you must make a reservation otherwise just stop in.
This place was a lot of fun!We got there right as it opened on a Thursday night, and it seemed like a ghost town. However, by 10PM the place was packed and jumping. Get there early if you want a good seat.Hint: Higher tips mean your song gets played sooner. $5 requests were table stakes. Most requests were in the $10-$20 range, and several even larger. The performers were all very talented and fun.
Lots of fun, especially on a Tuesday night when the crowd is a little smaller. The highlight of the evening was when one of the piano players had us all stand up and lock arms like a chorus line ... and then he played a tune that we all danced together! And I cant not mention all the requests, including Piano Man ... by Elton John (they made fun of that request ALL night!).
Its lots of fun, great staff, the people hosting really know what theyre doing. The only thing is their site says they close at 2:00AM like a normal bar in Texas-but they close at 1:30. I got a 3 minute warning from a very polite employee-which shocked the hell out of me. That 30 mins is countered in how long it will take for me to sober up before I leave and walk the streets (where when sober people tried to assault me). So, I was pretty worried about missing that 30 mins. Please change your deets on google and on your site to be accurate. Thank you!
Know that if you go to this place on the weekend, you will definitely spend a decent amount. I went on a Friday night and paid 10 dollar cover to get in (they accept credit/debit which is nice). My friend and I ordered the Lucky Duck drink which was a hefty 37 dollars and apparently was made for 5 people. We showed up sober which mightve been a mistake but the drink was easily finished by two people. The music was great and very entertaining. You can most likely expect to see a bachelor/bachelorette party or two here. Little bit of an older crowd mixed in with the younger crowd. I would definitely suggest going with a big group and plan to stay a while to make the most out of this venue.
It gets pretty packed and reservations are recommended. However, they do accept walk ins and you may get a table if you’re early. There’s a cover charge, so keep that in mind. Service was great and the drinks were strong, so I’d recommend it as a good intro to dueling pianos if you’ve never been!
I love the dueling piano concept and Petes kills it. Even on a slow Monday the musicians still seem to have a blast. Very interactive with the bar patrons and quick with the wit. And the talent the musicians display is always mind blowing. Couldnt ask for a better place to chill and have a good time being entertained.
First, even though the line was pretty deep, we were able to get in within 15 minutes or so. Second, one of our party ended up springing for a VIP booth, which honestly made the whole experience that much better. Third, our waitress/bartender, Jade, was absolutely amazing in every way. Super attentive and made sure everything we needed was taken care of. Lastly, and probably most importantly, the entertainment value of a night at Petes Dueling Piano Bar is above and beyond what you get at most live music shows. The musicians were incredibly engaging the entire night, and the crowd definitely elevated the engagement even more. This place deserves all of your business, every time. Not only is it worth it, but Ill be back again next time Im in Austin!
$10 cover on a Wednesday night..fine..$14 for a white Russian? No way..wife ordered..I gave waitress $14 then we changed our minds and ordered a vodka tonic for $9..waitress walked off with the $14..came back with $2 change..said I gave her $13..drink was $9 plus tax?I dont think so and she said she tipped herself..so the drink cost us $12..rip off..shes caucasian..pretty curly hair..attractive face..bubble butt hanging out of her shorts..music and singing is always good
We had such a blast here!!! We aren’t really 6th street bar hopping types, but we wanted to go out and have great time and Pete’s delivered! We made reservations in advance so we could sit front row and I think it was well worth it.It does get packed as the night goes on, but they play just about every song under the sun.Every table gets request cards and you can continue to request more as the night continues. Give them a tip and they are more likely to play your song and you can even request they bring someone from your party up on stage! It was very busy, but our server was extremely nice and accommodating.Would definitely go again!
This place was so fun! The guys playing the piano took requests and did an awesome job! It was a full house and the wait staff was attentive and friendly. Food truck was outside and the bar let you bring food in from the truck. I would recommend making a reservation for a table on their website. We did not, but got lucky and one was open. All other tables had a reserved sign on them. Will definitely go back again!
I was in Austin for only a few days. Petes was recommending to me once people discovered I was in town. We showed up on a Tuesday night and the place was absolutely ROCKING! Austin is known for its music scene, and Petes Dueling Piano Bar encompasses all the reasons why. The energy, history, decor and vibe would make me return every time. I could only imagine what its like on a Saturday night! Thanks for a great night of entertainment.
What a night youll have if you come here. The place is so lively and the music never stops.there are two pianos a drum kit and tow gitars, the guys all take it in turns to play the different intsraments, You can ask for any song and they will try to play it. Even rap songs! They really know how to get the crowd going and are all really nice chaps.
Curious whether youre vaccine actually works? This is the place to go! Lots and lots of people, lots and lots of singing, and all in a nice warm and closed space. 😉The piano guys were really rocking and they even played my song request in fairly short order. Had a great time that night.
The best place to go on 6th!!! Absolutely love it! The piano guys are great, they know how to entertain for sure. You can stay the whole night and not get tired of it. A super fun environment with everyone singing along to the songs they play. If you live in Austin and havent gone yet or visiting Austin, I absolutely 100% recommend going to check it out! Promise youll love it! There is a cover charge. It ranges from $10 - $15....but its absolutely worth it!!
This place was amazing!!!!! Everyone was screaming along to the words of every song, dancing, getting down! The fricken violinist did a solo whilst standing on top of the piano! My only gripe was the AC was baalasssting so we didn’t stay long as we wanted to. A long sleeve shirt would have remedied that though. Will 1000% go back next time I’m in town!
Fun! Says it all. We got there early and stayed late and enjoyed it from start to finish. The piano players are very talented and they work the crowd well. Oh, and the drinks were pretty good too. Get there early to get good seating, closer is better, but enjoyable, even from the balcony.
Awesome talent on the stage. Small cover of 7 to get in on Sunday. Totally worth it. Even with a smaller crowd the performers were at 100%. Taking requests and interacting with the audience. The best place for LIVE music on 6th. Range of genres from rock, country, pop and some surprises as well. Such a good night out.
Very fun and cool atmosphere! Great service, our waitress was very nice and attentive. Good, strong drinks. Excellent music, such talented musicians! Fun crowd! Get there early for a good seat. Will definitely be going to the piano bar again on the next visit to Austin.
I just wanted to comment I love piano bars. They would not let me and my husband in. Stating we were too intoxicated (mind you i am typing this 10 minutes later in my hotel room) completely ridiculous. Go to Darwins bar they have a piano man that is awesome and engages the crowd. I qould not recomend this place at all.
Im writing this review almost a year later but only because my birthday is coming back around and I remembered how great this place was. We were visiting Austin and came here on a Monday in February for my birthday. We werent expecting much as Mondays arent very exciting. Believe me when I say THIS WAS THE BEST PART OF MY NIGHT. It was fun, lively, hilarious! It did get a little crowded later in the night but it was just so so fun. Every musician was talented and funny. Of our whole trip to Austin, this was the best part and I will remember it forever
This was the first time I visited Austin, and I was so grateful that my friends brought me there! All the musicians on stage are very talented and very entertaining. My favorite part is that people will sing along with almost every song they played. We stayed there until they closed because we just could not leave!
The performers arent exactly dueling as much as performing alternately. But its quite a fun and unique establishment. The performers are absolutely wonderful at engaging the audience, and it was delightful to see so many people of so many ages singing and swaying together. Delicious cocktails too!
Fun atmosphere, great service. Enjoyed the entertainment very much!As the bar filled up, the music sound level was cranked very hot, and eventually it gave us all splitting headaches despite singing our hearts out along to the music. Also, unfortunately the toilets were having some sort of problem they were in the middle of addressing, so you couldnt flush toilet paper....so you had to throw used toilet paper away in the provided open-air can in front of you. Luckily nothing smelled by the end of the night, but it was rather disturbing. I would recommend some sort of lid, because its also not sanitary. Our service was wonderful, and we arrived extra early to make sure we had seats. So we had a table and chairs the whole night, which was a relief when it became standing room only very quickly once the pianomen began. They were great fun and very good at audience participation. They kept things fresh and funny. We enjoyed our first experience at Petes very much.
This was such a fun bar! The musicians are very talented and put on a great show for the audience. Drinks were reasonably priced and the atmosphere is awesome! If you like live music, singing along, and an interactive show, this is the place to go. There was a $10 cover, but definitely worth it.
We had a great time here! Its such a fun place! They engage the audience and everyone there looked like they were all having a good time. Drinks were reasonably priced. It was crowded when we got there but we were able to get a drink right away. There is an upstair area where you can equally see the performance. The musicians were entertaining and did some amazing performances. I would go back if Im ever in Austin again
This is a fun place. Its not for those who dont like crowds. The cover is a bit steep, but IMO its worth it if you can stay for a while. The service is adequate for a place this busy. Unless you sit at the bar, you probably want to make sure you have a good waitress (tip frequently) as youll never be able to get to the bar to get a drink.
This place was a amazing. We came here for a bachelor party and were made to feel like we were at home. They even invited us on the stage and sang a few songs with us. The musicians were really amazing and they can all play multiple instruments which was cool. It is a tight little spot though so there isnt too much standing room and tables get snapped up quickly.
You won’t find more talented musicians anywhere in Austin. These guys rocked... every instrument. Piano , fiddle guitar drums bass they could do it all. Vocals were ok, but the craftsmanship was off the charts. Very entertaining. We had a great time partying with them.
I was there a while ago, it was one of the best experiences ever. The band was simply amazing and the atmosphere was awesome young and old singing The Star Spangled Banner all of a sudden. Being from South Africa it gave me goosebumps. We went back a second night as we knew we would probably never get a chance to visit again. The whole Six Street experience was Amazing. Whish to return someday.
Always a fun time but a major time suck. You go in there at 7:30 and come back out at bar close having taken a tour through the 70s, 80s, 90s and today! Amazing bar and thank goodness its a hidden gem compared to some other places on 6th. Just expect to do a lot of singing and laughing. The talent is amazing.
$10 cover fee per person, got there right around opening and found a seat. No food at the bar but apparently they have a deal with one of the neighboring food places and dont mind if you bring their food in.Pianists were talented and funny! Engaged with the crowd. A fun once in a while or special occasion kind of night out.
It is a great venue. Lots of Energy. If you never been to a duelling Piano bar, I highly recommend it. Its a western bar style, where theres 2 pianist faceoff against each other. You can write down in a piece of paper what song would you like them to play, and it helps your case to slip them some cash with that request to increase your odds that they would pick your request. If you have a any special occasion you are celebrating, definitely let them know. Its a jolly good time there. Drinks are a bit pricey and theres usually a cover charge on weekends. The crowd is little more matured.
Lots of fun, good musicians, with a fast and friendly wait staff (we never had an empty drink... Which led to a high bar tab, but hey - it was a great night!). This really isnt different from any other dueling piano bar in the country, so if you have been to one else where you know what to expect.
Everything about this place lead to an amazing night. We were seated quickly had drinks in our hands before wed even settled in. There were four musicians playing and each was incredibly talented. nearly every song sang was familiar and the musicians knew how to get the crowd hyped up. I couldnt recommend this place more.
One word Amazingly fun ok two words. But in the serious note, it was my first Time at a piano bar. My friend said I would really njoy it. He was right. It was very entertaining the staff were very cool and outgoing. They also were part of the show and participated in the fun. Five thumbs up and in would.highly recommended checking this place out. Very cool experience if you have never been.to.this place
Went on a Monday night, the place was packed by 10. We arrived around 8, one of the players pulled my buddy and I on stage early in the evening for some musican-crowd interaction on account of low excitement levels. We left for a half hour and ended up coming back for the rest of the night. Absolute blast, definitely recommend if youre looking for a fun time.
Loved this place. I was in Town for a work conference and spent 2 evenings of my 4 nights there, hanging out here. The guys are great on the piano and instruments and the staff is very friendly!! I definitely will be back when Im in Austin. Wish they had a bar in Northern California, Id be a regular!!
Always a great party scene. Great place to go with a group and hear very lively, funny and talented musicians. Always a bunch of birthday parties, bachelor/bachelorette parties and groups of all sizes singing and submitting song requests. Service is very friendly and fun
This place is one of my favorites in Austin. The musicians are phenomenal and its a great time whether you are with a group of friends for a birthday or on a date. The drinks are a bit more expensive compared to all the surrounding bars but it is worth it if you are trying to escape the big college crowds.
Pete’s was such a fun experience but our service was unfortunate. We ordered numerous cocktails and shots and the waitress got our order wrong and brought extra drinks that we didn’t order. She proceeded to roll her eyes and take the drinks back. When she saw the amount I tipped her, she gave me a look and said “interesting.” I wasn’t surprised when I later got a charge on my card for a tip $20 more than the amount I left.....Pete’s is great, but the service not so much.
Wonderful talent. Nice bar. Had fun. Put in a song and paid 5 dollars for them to play a song (plus a 5 dollar cover which was well worth the talent). Then the jerk started to play our song after 1 hour of waiting (the only had 15 people int he bar, it wasn’t that busy) and then was on the wrong chord, and stopped and said “we are all adults, no one one wants us to play (my song)”. “I wont play this song if someone pays me 6 dollars!” Some white drunk man got up and paid six dollars and asked for him to play a rap song. Then we had to hear the white old man try to do rap. It was rude. It was annoying they didn’t know the song so made fun of my song choice instead of playing something similar- like they had done for others. (FYI the song I picked was on top 20 for “dueling piano songs).
Such a super fun spot. The musicians were awesome and engaging. At one point they brought out the fiddle and they killed it with Devil went down to Georgia. Took A star off for the $5 cover charge. They do such great business they dont need to charge a cover, especially since none of the other spots on 6th street seem to be charging.
Great place, lively music and performers. You can request your song and they will play it for you. They dont have a restaurant but I was told you can bring in food. You need to purchase drinks at the bar. They check ID at the entrance and a $5 entrance fee was charged.
I was here with a group of friends and had a lot of fun. Ive been to several other dueling piano bars and I liked that they took requests from the audience. The crowd was pretty mixed. Birthday parties, bachelorette parties, and some older folks. But it worked. They even had guest participation. Id recommend it for a fun night out on 6th street but not among the college crowd.
The musicians at this bar are great at entertaining. This place is usually one of the few places on 6th that you find packed on a Friday. They do have a cover charge of about 10 bucks which is worth it if you are planning to spend some time here. You can pay a tip and get your song played by the band. I enjoyed a lot the first time I went there but I have realised that they mostly do the same stuff every evening, so it might not be entertaining for 2nd or 3rd visit.
Fun bar, definitely worth a visit (or several). Was there about a month ago on 08/29/15 I think. Cover is normally $10, but if you check in on Yelp and show it to the doorman, it goes down to $3. The piano players do take requests, but they go with the money, so if your request came first and you tipped a dollar and the next person tipped twenty, theyre playing the second one first. Can sometimes be tricky to find a seat, so since Ive only ever gone there around 12, Id say try to get there earlier than midnight. Great vibe and the piano players are extremely good; theyll play everything from classics like September by Earth, Wind & Fire to Get Lucky by Daft Punk. If you like live music and a great atmosphere, this place is for you!
I was in Austin this past week for a bachelorette party and we went to Petes on Thursday night. It was the BEST night of the trip! The musicians are amazingly talented, interactive, and hilarious! Its the most Ive laughed in a long time. There was a $5 cover charge on Thursday, and we ended up back at Petes on Saturday night and the cover charge was $12, which I thought was high, but still worth it.
First time visiting it in Austin and Id say its easily the most wholesome fun Ive had at a bar. Pianists at the helm are amazingly charismatic and inclusive - theyll play anything from Thomas the Tank Engine to Billy Joel to Cardi B and rope the audience in to get down with them. A lot of bachelorettes and birthday partiers. People are extremely friendly, so is the waiting staff. Dancing gets great after 10pm. Drinks can be a little expensive. Cover is $8. Would recommend to anyone looking to have a good time with quality music with a small group of friends. Go early to get prime seats!
Favorite place on 6th! So much fun! Great drinks and great time! I went twice the first week I went! If you havent been yet, check it out! Fun to check out on a weekday, especially since there is no cover! We went on a wednesday and were able to visit with the performers beforehand!
Best piano bar Ive ever been too. Ive been to quite a few around the country and the famous Patty Os in NOLA. This is by far the best one. They were not just playing the classic piano bar songs by Elton John and Billy Joel, I actually heard none of that. They played everything you wouldnt expect to find in a piano bar (Bob Marly and Spice Girls).
This was the best place to be in Austin. If you like live music and a Great performers, Petes Dueling Piano bar is the place to be. The waitstaff was friendly and awesome. The drinks and food were reasonably priced and delicious. Everything was great. We lost track of time from dancing and singing along and ended up staying here all night instead of moving on to the other bars we planned on going to. If youre in austin, go to Petes and make a reservation near the stage
If you enjoy a snobby, money-grubbing atmosphere, this is the place for you. I wrote a request for Leon Russell with a $5 tip. At first it seemed like they were going to play it, he pushed it to the front of the list, mentioned it to his partner, and then a few songs later, the same player says to the audience, You do not have to tip us, some guy put a $5 tip for a song, and just so you know, we dont have to play the song you request, and then he played Margaritaville...then about 15 minutes later, another pair of players are on the pianos, and one of them says to the audience, Someone requested Leon Russell with $5, but someone else just gave me $20 for a different song, so maybe well get to the Leon later.Look, I dont care about the $5 tip. Or even the overpriced drinks and $8 door charge on a street of no covers, and I dont care about whether they even play the song. I am a musician, and I can tell you that I would never make fun of someone for tipping me. I will never return to that establishment. They could have just moved along and not said a thing about it. Clearly they are just trying to squeeze the biggest tips they can out of people, and even that is fine, but you dont have to be jerks about it.We wont ever be going back.

2022-06-04Ive never been to anything like this. I was amazed to see the raw talent of the artists that could play and sing any song you gave them. The energy of the crowd was so much fun. Definitely a fun way to spend an hour or so.

2022-07-21This was an insane amount of fun! Weve been to a lot of piano bars and whether the alcohol was stronger, atmosphere was better, or the pianists were on point....this place was the best! They played all night (dont recall a single break), full range in genres and great participation/crowd interaction!

2022-04-09Best place for live entertainment on 6th street.Drinks were good. Typical for a bar of this setting. They were selling jell-o-shots the night we went. The dueling piano, as the name obviously suggests, is their highlight. Everyone were so talented. They were taking song requests and played every song really well! The crowd was great too. The space is limited, so expect to be in a cramped space on weekends.Ended up spending longer than expected here as it was so much! Must visit!

2022-05-14Ive been to Petes on several visits and each time is a great time. The general idea is that people can make requests and the piano people or the band will play it. You can give tips to get your music played faster. People sing along and a good time during your birthday. Good bar selection and you can get a huge fishbowl for 5 or 6 of your friends. There is an upper level but it was closed off when I was there. If you dont want the craziness of the rest of sixth street, you can spend a night here easy

2022-07-19We walked in and grabbed 2 seats at the bar right as the place was beginning to fill up. There were three amazingly talented musicians who knew how to work a crowd and keep everyone engaged. We could tell it was definitely a birthday party/bachelorette party hot spot. Decently priced drinks and friendly and attentive bartenders along with the show you get, make this a place well definitely visit again

2022-08-26Fun place to hang out and sing popular songs. You can request songs or just enjoy what others are requesting. Theres a small second floor with seating but theres tables downstairs too. There is a cover charge but the do have severs taking drink orders so you dont have to wait at the bar if you dont want too.

2022-06-27Always enjoy my time at Petes! Went there for my friends birthday. I usually sit at one of the tables in front of the stage. Im always amazed by the servers. The place, as usual, was packed!!! And yet, the wait staff make their way to the tables and take your order and/or serve water as needed, as it simply was not possible at all to get to the bar. This last time I had a lot of fun when One of the piano players flirted with me. Made this sexy single over 60s day! 😂 (Still waiting for that phone call, BTW Allen. 😉)One concern I have as a retired event manager is crowd control and OSHA regulations. I hate to even mention it because its always such a good time. However, it might be wise for the owners to begin requiring parties greater than 4 make a reservation and limit the number of people indoors. I think I counted almost a dozen bridal and bachelor party groups there that night. Just way too many people. I would hate to see something happen to Petes. Such a fun Austin icon. Thanks for a great night!!
