This is a historic site with a picnic area located on Hwy 118 between Fort Davis and Alpine. The 1854 Musquiz Ranch was located here as is the present day Calamity Creek Ranch. Interesting geological formations are visible including a 35 million year old lava flow. Giant cottonwood trees provide shade. Be aware of fast traffic coming around curves near both ends of the picnic area.

It’s not the most exciting thing in this part of Texas, but it’s probably the best ranch home ruins in the area. More importantly though it’s located on a very lovely driving road, and is a good spot to pull over for a minute to take in some views and read a plaque.
