We had dinner at Sakura this evening for the first time and it was fantastic!!! We got there at 5:00 and had to wait a little bit for a table but it was definitely worth the wait. Our waiter Aaron was amazing! Our drinks were never empty and he took care of us really well. Our cook was funny and made our food to perfection! The price was average for a family of 3. The restaurant was warm and welcoming. Very Good atmosphere. We will definitely be back!
Pretty good place. Little but of a smell and could use a good deep clean. The sushi was up to par, great variety. The service was very friendly and kept our glasses full of water and tea. There was a couple of staff visiting over in the corner of the sushi bar. It was quite annoying die to the loudness and that they werent doing anything but visiting. .
I want to say that the food was delicious and the food was pretty well priced, but the waitresses were very rude when I was trying to ask for the location of the bathroom. Rude staff will ruin a restaurant for me personally. Take out would be better for next time maybe.
Spent damn good money and we waited for over an hour at the table for a chef...they had 2 chefs for well over 8 seated tables. I love a good tepanyaki restaurant for the atmosphere and the chefs put on a good show. I had 2 kids with me that had never been and what a disappointment. I couldve ordered takeout for the service provided. All we got was a chef cooking our food...zero interaction. Im sure if we had sat in the kitchen we wouldve gotten a better show.
This place was good. WAS good. My husband and I went here for our anniversary last month and walked out because the service was that slow. We were there for 30+ minutes and no one came to our table. We left before anyone even got our drink orders and we hoped it was a rare occurrence. After today we realize it was not. I called this morning wanting to reserve a table for 12. They said they dont do same day reservations. Okay fine. We are going at 11:30 on a Saturday. It wont be that busy. I went in with 8 of the party for the chefs table as my 2 kids had never been and would have enjoyed it. They said we would need to be seated at 2 tables which we said would be fine. They said we would be seated as soon as the other people in our party were there. No problem. We waited 5 minutes for our other party to arrive. So 11:35 am on a Saturday. During the 5 extra minutes it took my party to arrive a group of 30 came in and wanted to be set at a chefs table. The hostess then came up to me and told me that they would have to set all of us at 1 table since there wasnt enough tables for us to be sat comfortably. I told them that wouldnt work. They said its first come first serve yes and we were first so our table should still be available. Long story short we were cramed into one table and it took 3 hours for us to get a chef at our table. The group of 30 had came and left in that time frame. Also we would have been better off sitting at a regular table because the chef did not interact with us at all. He looked quite miserable. And the food was not cheap. I will not be returning to this business and honestly neither should you.
I loved it,loved it, loved it !!I have not been here in almost 2 years, with all that has been going on ,covid, businesses closing, I am ecstatic that they are still up and running! This was our place to go eat at, when it first opened, and I pray that it will continue to serve as one of my most favorite restaurants for a very long time!!Been a few changes with the menu, same great food options, the prices have gone up, but the service is still on par.You get soup, salad, and 2 shrimp with your meal now, so little more like a full meal type of set up now, theres a small fee to have them cook in front of you now but they definitely deserve itEveryone does wear a mask if thats a concern of yours, you can as well, but I was so happy to get back to eat here and enjoy one of myvallntime favorite meals, I gotcthe chicken fried rice, no veggies, extra rice,And man was it alot of food! Could have fed 3 regular people, but for me I almost devoured the entire amount, man it was delicious 😋But I did have enough leftover to feed me the next day for lunch, and it was just as good as it was being cooked in front of me.Please go and support this business as they are taking all precautions to make you feel safe!Ill continue to go and support them, and I hope you will too!Be safe, have fun, make memories,✌
My first time coming to this restaurant and it was a better restaurant compared to the other Asian restaurant with the same style of cooking. The shrimp and the rice tasted really good and the steak was cooked perfect but it tasted a little blend and the chicken was a little overcooked but tasted good. Good restaurant I just need some improvement on their food. Maybe they can do fresh vegetable for the salad because it look like it came out of bag that you buy at walmart.
Excellent experience. We asked the waitress to sit us with a fun group and she got spot on! Our grill mates really made my night. Our chef Christian was very lively and cheerful. The food was awesome, the entertainment was awesome! The monkey balls were amazing and saying so is equally fun!
Waiter with the top bun was drinking On the job, taking shots with customers and screaming obnoxiously and woke up my baby while we were trying to have a nice dinner. This is the second time we’ve been in and had the same girl as our waitress and she always gets something wrong with the order, takes too long to put the order in, and has an attitude any time you tell her something is incorrect or you need something else. Get ready to wait forever for a chef to come to your table as well. We had to wait 2 hours once for my moms birthday.. it sucks because this was my favorite restaurant.
I ordered my food on the phone, when the girl repeats my order back yo make sure is correct I think ok she got it. I get my food home and it’s totally wrong it happened one time then I go again and do the same thing and he girl repeats my order back and she has it right. I take it home and it’s totally wrong. When I call you explain what happened they are super nice but I ordered again same thing I’m like ugh forget it I’m not bothering to call amd tell them it’s wrong o just don’t get it the girl repeated it correct to me when I get it it’s all wrong. What’s the deal ? Ugh
Food, chef, and waiter were great but the wait to be seated and the wait to be served our food totaled about 3 hours…. Understandably they were short staffed that day but come on, that’s a management issue. We ordered some appetizers that were delivered an hour and a half after we initially placed the order and we had nearly finished our hibachi. Can’t say I would recommend this place when there are competitors around town who can do a much better job for a more reasonable price.
Dinner was an event. The occasion was our daughters birthday 🎉 The service was excellent and the food was simply amazing. Our chef was so much fun. Cant wait to go back. We all had steak and shrimp. The couple that we shared a table with had the salmon. It looked so good. I love the aviance. It made everything special.
Unfortunately it was just okay. Food was good, especially the sushi. Just expected more from the Chef for the kids this was their first time to a grill like this. Lots of mistakes were made, (Chef & Wait staff just seemed like lack of communication and just paying attention to customers orders)with the food and bill (which was corrected) it was just not a good experience.
Walked in there hoping to practice my Japanese and eat some real, authentic food. They had mexicans working the sushi bar, and I asked my server if there was anyone there that knows the language. She said she didnt think so. I just left. Its not a real Japanese restaurant.
Ordered togo, everyone was polite and food was ready when I arrived. A little pricey, but always worth it. This occasion my steak was overcooked and the manager refunded me and offered to remake my order as well. This is very rare courtesy nowadays unless the customer is rude and making a scene.
The server rushed us. The food was just okay. Four of us ended up with severe stomach issues thru the night after eating here. The only common thing we all had was the crab puffs. The chef was the only good part of the experience. He was entertaining and friendly. Also fyi for those of you who love your hibachi w the famous yum yum sauce they do not offer that here.
Attentive service and decent food. We went at lunch and was seated right away at the grill. The waitress was quick with the orders and refills. The cook in front of us was entertaining and experienced at hibachi style cooking. The food was food, but the fried rice was a little under cooked. The meats were thoroughly cooked and seasoned well as were the veggies. Overall food experience.
This place was amazing. Everything taste like I expected it to taste. Its pricey but worth it. My family enjoyed every bit of it. So satisfying and so fresh ❤️ We did not dine in due to covid. But when I ordered my meals I can see them cooking everything right in front of the customers. Amazing!
Well as much as he tried our little chef was inexperienced. I think he may have been about 14. Rice was burned. I’ve never seen anybody burn rice. And there was absolutely no “show”. Food was very expensive. But for the price I expect more. Not bashing the little guy. They have to start sometime but dinner is not the right time. That should be reserved for more experienced personnel. Probably won’t be back for a while.
First timer, host and server were nice. Server was attentive. Draft beer was STALE, tasted old and warm and like if they chilled it before it was served to me. Ended up buying bottled beer after. They didn’t have many beers on stock. Cook was cool and laid back, rice tasted ok, I give it a 6/10. But he overdid my filet, I wanted it medium and it came out well done, which you can’t eat filet at. I also got the shrimp tempura which wasn’t the greatest. It’s an ok spot, but honestly I expected more for it being close to the same prices as Kabuki. My bill was $68 before the tip for the combination rice, tempura and 3 beers.
We sat at a grill today, sushi was good, steak was fantastic, chicken was fantastic, chef and waitress were very friendly and helpful. Thanks for an amazing lunch! Also- I didn’t smell any smoke, and the prices are very reasonable compared to other restaurants in the area that serve the same food.
Went for dinner with a couple friends for some Asia type food. Sat at a table in the main dining area with a friendly waitress. Did not eat in the cooking area. I started with the California Roll then the Teriyaki Chicken with Fried Rice. It was an enjoyable evening and relaxing dinner. Food was well presented and atmosphere pleasant not noisy. Plenty of free parking available.
Delicious food! We had a lovely sweet server about age 19 or 20. She was very kind. Helped me feel special for my birthday, offered me the free small bowl of ice cream with syrups and whip cream + cherry on top for my dessert. I went there for their Sushi! Its Delicious! But alll their food is so good, and Great quality. They have a great Big bar or two. I guess the one you see when you walk in is the Sushi Bar station where those guys are making all that fresh sushi for orders. We didnt drink a lot, had some blush wine, a couple beers and they have sake too. GREAT! selection of sushi and was Delicious as always! Please try the Monkey Balls sushi if you do sushi at all--does Not disappoint! Yummm!
Sat in the regular dining area, service was fine and the food was decent. I did have to send my steak back because it was served cold, and while originally ordered medium-rare, it came back medium-well to well-done as recooks often do.Overall, the quality, taste, and caliber of the food is simply not worth the higher-end pricing, and as such I would not recommend this restaurant and nor am I likely to return.
Steven Nelson did us a solid service again! I rented out the back banquet room with 35 people for my 40th birthday party. The 2 waitresss were great and the entire staff was awesome. Thank you for everything you helped is with. We always go here and enjoy the service. Drinks and entrees both spot on. There was an assortment of foods ordered with a group of that size. We (my wife and I) had the Lobster at market price and were not disappointed. Thanks Steve!!!!!!!
This place was such a disappointment. The tempura has the texture of corndog breading, the soup had a BBQ taste, and the main meal is a meat, side of veg, and rice... the flavor of this place is not in the same hemisphere as Japan. Should have sat at the grill so we could have at least gotten a show for how much we paid there.
Service was overall good, waiter did charge for water though. The rice was oily, vegetables cooked inconsistently, and scallops tasteless. Everything including soft drinks were overpriced. There is a “smoking area” not separated by anything from the main dining area. I checked the website beforehand and saw nothing about smoking being allowed.
Underwhelming!Sushi taste is fine. but is inconsistent, didnt hold together well, and is sometimes way overpriced! especially since they use fake crab. Kitchen does not know how to cook a medium steak. Sad considering this is a steakhouse. All and all I can see potential in this place, but the staff is holding it back with lack of passion.
Extremely disappointed. Hostess literally clocked out and went home after I made a to go order with her. She was going to ask the kitchen if I could go ahead and make a small order, and let me know. She hadnt come back so I assumed she was preparing it. Only to find out 30 minutes later that she went and told her manager that she already talked to me and that she was leaving, apparently she was in a hurry to leave and didnt want to mess with the situation or possible late order! I literally sat there for 30 MINUTES waiting for my Togo order. The manager on duty said she was sorry, and she would talk to her. Just ridiculous, petty and completely unprofessional. Thanks for waisting my time guys! With employees like that, no wonder the owners are looking to sell the business.
This establishment was clean and the staff was friendly. Our cook was amazing! He interacted with all my children according to their ages. Weve seen the show many times before, but its always fun and exciting. There was a small wait, maybe about 10 minutes. The food was delicious and the serving portions were huge. We had the edamame for an appetizer which arrived a little late after the cook began cooking. I love that the server brought ice out with the soup for my children. This is the only place that does this that I know of. Myband had the spicy tuna roll (sushi) and everyone had tepan chicken. We will definitely visit again when we come back I to town.Only complaint I had was that I didnt get my ginger salad. Maybe its not offered at dinner time?
We’ve been going to eat here since they first opened and I was a kid. The food is okay it’s definitely not what it used to be but still good. The sushi on the other hand has gone so far in the ground that they could hit oil. The last time we were in there our sushi roll had bits of plastic wrap in it. We just left there again today with another bad experience our sushi had fish bones all in it (didn’t find out until I caught one in my throat). The waitress came and took it off our ticket but said the sushi manager said any sushi with eel has fish bones. We’ve been getting the dancing eel for the last 5 years when we come to Amarillo and have never had bones in it. Had they just taken it and been done with it would have been one thing but to try and tell us it always has bones in it rubbed me the wrong way. I think from now on we’ll be going to Kabuki steak house.
By far the best sushi that youll find in Amarillo. The chefs are very good and Ive always had a very friendly experience interacting with them every time Ive been here either by myself or with friends. The kids enjoyed what they call the chop-chop show aka the hibachi grill prep. Frequently visit this place when we can. Good prices and good food.
The most expensive meal I ever threw away.... We were traveling through Amarillo and this place was recommended. They charge premium sushi prices so we expected premium quality prep. We are avid sushi eaters and have eaten sushi across the country. The fish was decent quality but it was obvious the rice wasnt properly stored or prepared. Everything just tasted off. Not to mention, the miso was way too salty. Which in retrospect makes sense because the whole place smelled of cigarette smoke. That being said the server was kind and the peach tea was spot on. We would not eat here again.
Went here after a craving for sushi and reading great reviews. I have no idea why this is the number 1 sushi place in Amarillo lol. My sushi cuts were horrific, rice fell apart, even tasting the fish alone it was obviously not quality. The specialty rolls were so drowned in mayo I couldnt taste the actual roll. Once I got some mayo scraped off, the fish and ingredients still didnt taste right. Incredibly disappointing.
To the Management:Please note that I havent eaten here so my experience is based on first impressions.I am giving this a two star review for the following reasons:1. When you walk up to the front of a place that you are about to spend $100-$150 on then you should be expect to see the exterior of the restaurant well maintained. This is the first impression that all customers get. If you see that the management has spent the time to freshen the paint replace dry rotted wood then you assume high quality.2. Walking through the door all of the licenses and paperwork on the wall looking like posters glued to the wall at a New York construction site. I would suggest that you buy a frame and place those items in it before posting. That would appear more professional.3. No greeting at the door. Two employees on their cell phones waiting for someone to show up and introduce themselves to them. This should be reversed, greeting should happening promptly after walking through the door. Possible suggestion: Change the location of where they stand to be more inviting to customers.4. Menus: the ones that I was handed were torn , ripped, and greasy. Cleaning these could be a great job for the two employees at the front and replacing the menus when damaged. Just think of the food that could get trapped in those cracks.5. Smoke: I get it, you open cook in the back rooms and they are well ventilated. However; the ventilation for the smoking at the bar is poor and radiates throughout the entire restaurant. As a former smoker it is difficult to be in that environment. I dont mind smoking inside if it is ventilated correctly and the smoke is contained at the bar. That is when I walked out. I couldnt make it past the front of the room. I was truly disappointed, seeing that I have read and had countless people tell me how wonderful this restaurant is.The appearance of your restaurant is direct reflection on the the cleanliness of your kitchen. If the customers feel that the areas, that are seen, are dirty and not well maintained; then what impression are you giving about the kitchen?
This is our pick for Hibachi in amarillo. The food is always wonderfully flavored, and the addition of Lo Mein noodles is great! They do an especially good job on their hibachi steak, so I highly recommend that. The service is really good, the chefs are entertaining, its everything that you could want from a Hibachi restaurant.
Wonderful food and fun atomsphere. The quailty and freshness of the food served here is much higher than the other habachi joints in town. The cooks are skilled too; steaks have always been prepared to order, grilled shrimp isnt overcooked and the salmon is outstanding.
I took my family here for dinner and they opened at 5:00pm....I we walked in at 5:02pm and they said it was an hour wait, I asked how that’s possible since they just opened and they said they seated people at 4:30pm since they were wait outside and they didn’t want people standing in the parking lot, what a joke !!!!!!!!
Unfortunately... disappointing. Had a great time but thats cuz me n my company are awesome. Did the Teppanyaki/Hibachi and were ready for a show. I dont think the dude would have spoke if I wouldnt have engaged him. Nice as he was it was very strange. Not a joke, not a trick, not a flip of his spatula.... NOTHING. Said he worked there for 22 years! Starting to think 21 1/2 were dishwashing! Food was good, not great. Sushi was very good and HUGE. One roll could feed 3!
Over priced..sashimi was hard. never had pieces like that ever. And i come from Hawaii where sashimi was invented not Japan, they only made it famous, Steak was unseasoned? And your in Texas king of steaks.... Need to look over your products.....service was great...food gets a 1 star
Super pricey and the food is absolutely over rated. Not with your hard earned $100 dollars when you can go down the street for the same experience, better food, and better prices at places like Kabuki or Tokyo. Only eat here if money means nothing to you or youre trying to impress a girl with your ability to dine her at an expensive restaurant without flinching.
Every roll we ordered was smothered in both some mayonnaise sauce and a sirracha sauce, and I mean SMOTHERED so much so that I could not even taste anything else, much less the fish. Ive never had a spicy tuna roll served with this type of sauce. The server was nice, but should have mentioned that this was the way they serve it here. Oh, and the pickled ginger was pink - food coloring - yuk. Real ginger is beige.
Very good Sashimi despite the location being in the Panhandle. Its no California sushi bar. But they are very courteous, and despite the price, you get what you pay for in dazzle if you come in a group for the hibachi. They still have a very fresh selection for sashimi. But it might be fair to chase it down with a beer and or saki.
I dont normally write a review. This is probably the first time Ive written a restaurant review, ever...but I felt people had a right to know. This is not a sushi restaurant. I had eaten here a few times in the past, and it was ok. Not terrible, but that has changed. I decided to give them another chance after having terrible sushi, thinking it was a one time bad batch. The second chance is the last time. The sushi was still frozen in the center. Yes, ice crystals-crunchy-frozen. I had a sashimi platter with three kinds of fish and all three were rubbery and did not taste right. I had a side order of Superwhite Tuna, which was also rubbery and tasted old. Im not a sushi-snob. I like about any food there is...but this is the kind of stuff that backs the jokes about eating sushi in Amarillo. The miso soup was even a disaster. It was like someone poured half a shaker of salt into it. I can eat almost anything and it was too salty to eat. My date said the same and couldnt eat it. She also quit eating the sushi after her first piece. Well, Id avoid this place for sushi...maybe their other food is good, but their sushi is horrible. Weve eaten at Kushi-Yama and had good sushi, so its not impossible to have good sushi in Amarillo, just not at Sakura.

2022-06-01Another great meal at our favorite sushi restaurant in Amarillo! We love Sakura! The sashimi platter was so fresh and my favorite part of our meal. My only complaint is the crunchy roll wasn’t “crunchy” lol! But it still tasted great!Love that they are smoke free now!!

2022-01-19Food was really good. Went during the 5pm dinner slot and sat at the grill where the food is made in front of you. Everything was tasty and everyone from the cook to the hostess was personable. Large portions.

2022-05-06Prices went up but portions went down. You cant get full anymore. I use to be a regular but I stopped coming after awhile because food wasnt that good and horrible customer service at the time. The customer service has improved but the food portions are terrible. If I spend 45 bucks and more I expect to get full and bring a plate home like I use to be able to do. This Business sucks. Food also the taste but portions is a problem for now. I wont be back this time. Pandemic affects everyone not just businesses

2022-07-02All the staff is friendly and attentive! I’m from Dallas and this place has beat any place I’ve ever eaten at. I will definitely be coming back to this staple in amarillo, TX! I only took a picture of the drinks we ordered (watermelon cucumber martini and tequila sunrise) because the food was so good I ate It so quickly! I had the spicy edamame, if you like a good kick TRY THIS HEALTHY APPETIZER! The fried rice is definitely a sharable for two.As for sushi: I had the bazooka, rajun Cajun, and the bebo roll 10/10.I love Sakura 💚💚💚💚

2022-02-13Food Quantity is good, Quality is poor. This is a two star restaurant with 5 star prices. Delayed food placement. Received one meal then waited 15 min for the 2nd meal. Waitress was not busy, just not interested in working. Horrible service mediocre food. We wont be back. Plenty of nicer places to get better food and service in Amarillo Texas.

2022-05-15It seemed that they put eel sauce on everything and so much of it it tastes like a desert. Order the eel sauce on the side. Rolls were just meh and too much eel sauce. Salad too much eel sauce and spicy mayo couldnt even taste the lettuce. Our server was nice though.

2022-07-07We ended up with food poisoning. My sister and I had dinner here last night. As we walked up to the restaurant, the smell of sewage was very strong. We ordered a “Make my day” roll, a rainbow roll and shared an order of crab puffs. It took much longer than usual to receive our drinks and we had also ordered some chicken and rice to share but ended up canceling it because it never came out. Both my sister and I experienced getting ill afterwards which leads me to believe proper food handling is not being observed in the kitchen. We will not be back. I would hope that management sees this review and checks their kitchen because we are very sick and I hope that this will not affect anyone else because it is awful.

2022-04-28I took my family to have dinner. Very disappointing. You have stop serving the salad but the price stayed the same. My family and l loved the salad. We ordered Tappan steak and scallops. We ordered medium rare and it was served well done. Sirloin steak well done is tuff. Showed it to the waitress and she apologized and would tell the cook. That wasnt what l wanted to hear. Spent over 250 dollars. Sorry want be back. Found out from friends who feel the same way. Will have to go back to Kabukis.

2022-06-07It was a nice place. Seated right away. The sushi roll came before my appetizer and I never got the soup that was complimentary.Suggesting to order the appetizers before any sushi.I tend to order my sushi as my meal and it kind of is annoying when that happens. So note to self on that as well.

2021-02-25First time going here and it was excellent! We will definitely be back! Our server was Kiki and she did an awesome job. The food was delicious and the meat was tender. The chef was great with the kids and made it very entertaining. I wish I would have got pictures of the sushi because we ate it up too quickly
