Soulmans Bar-B-Que in other cities:
First time at location..not happy at all purchased loaded potato got Brisket on it which thought it was ground meat. No flavor omg i couldnt really eat it. Thru most away...very dry put more butter and 2 barbecue sauces. Just wished they would allow brisket to be just that doesnt need to be grounded up. Lastly tea wasnt sweet at all...smdh never again
Very disappointed. My Texas toast was hard as a rock. Ribs just ok, sausage cold & beans horrific. This place is never busy and the customer service could improve. I sense a fake friendly & not inviting or authentic attitude from employees. I waste $20Will never go back or recommend however the location in Lewisville is the total opposite.
Had delivery thru doordash. Sliced brisket was very dry, but had decent flavor. BBQ sauce was nice and tasty.. Definitely needed it with the brisket. The turkey was super yummy and very moist and tender. Their potato salad was mashed potatoes with potato salad seasoning. Thats sad. I didnt like the feel in my mouth. Toast tastes like gas. My banana pudding doesnt even exist. Its just a big glob of breading!
Terrible bbq. Went in around 1pm and wasn’t another soul in the place. Ordered sandwich combo. That thing wasn’t even a slider it was so small haha. The two sides came in these TINY cups. So those were considered a sampler. Green beans were terrible. Boiled in water. No seasoning. I honestly don’t know how they’re in business. Would not recommend.
Twice we’ve gotten their pork ribs, and they were very good. Theirs are juicier and have a little more fat than I’m used to, but my husband loved it. Sides are very good and some healthy choices available... sautéed cabbage was delicious, but a little on the spicy side for us. Staff was very attentive and welcoming. We’ll go back for #3 for sure.
I truly wish I had taken pics but it wouldnt have done it justice anyway. This ranks way up there on my favorites list of anywhere to eat much less just barbecue. If you havent tried them, go. Go, now! Ill meet you there. The ribs are fall off the bone, melt in your mouth de-lish! We also got the chopped beef hogie but by the time I came up for air from my ribs my son was already licking his fingers. Needless to say this was one place the food speaks for itself & found it to be a carnivorous dream!
Very disappointing today. Not only did we not get our Texas toast. And instead of putting our sides in bowls she put them right in the to go containers. Had to dig our creamed corn out from under the foil and the potato salad. Most of our our corn ended up cold because it was our n our potato salad. Totally disappointed today
I don’t eat meat, but stopped by here to pick up some food for my husband who does. I relied on the ladies for guidance, as I had absolutely no clue what to order. At their request, I ended up getting the Chuck Wagon. Shame on me for not checking my bag before I got home. The 3 Texas Toasts that supposedly comes with the order, was certainly not included in my order, the fried okra was cold and thrown in the bad with no lid on the container, and I don’t know much about meat, but I guarantee that what I received, was no where near 1 pound of meat. This was my first time here and needless to say, I won’t be back. Very upset about this experience.
They were busy last Friday so our delivery meal was not what would have been expected. But after calling and speaking to their wonderful manager Michelle, she made us feel like we mattered. Replacement meal received tonight and it was amazing! Thank you for the awesome customer service Michelle at the Allen location and the fine people you work with.
Ordered on Uber eats and this was easily the driest BBQ I have ever had in my life. The Brisket on my baked potato looked like that shreeded beef jerky chewing tobacco stuff we had as kids. Hell the pulled pork was dry. IDK how you make dry pulled pork but they did.The flavor profiles of the meats and stuff was fine, but it was so dry it was just disgusting.
I’m torn. The staff is beyond nice and the place is clean. The brisket was good, but not great. The sides were also good. The bun, however, was stale and my kids wouldn’t eat the corn dogs they were so bad. Now the fact they ordered corn dogs is on them. Overall I wish the food was better so I could give them 5 stars.
Brisket tastes like my own, and the sausage - oh man!! Did I mention the crazy generous portions? You have to try their spicy potatoes, too. Im a Texas girl, so usually go for potato salad, but rolled the dice, and couldnt be happier. Been here before, and will be back again. Love it. My godfather brought it to our family when my grandmother passed away, if that tells you anything. They do Texas comfort food right!
I come every Friday for the fish and it is always delicious! The young lady who handles the drive through always puts a smile on my face and I really appreciate that she is always in a bright and happy mood, especially in these dark times. Will definitely keep coming back!!
Eighteen dollars for a 3-meat plate you got to be kidding me! For the price, this was highly than disappointing. I should have decided to drive around and find the nearest Dickey’s. I’d of paid the same amount of money and got way more we both would have been full and would have had some sort of leftovers. So, let me start with My okra; it was overdone and so greasy I could lube a door hinge. The beans had a good flavor but were actually hard under cooked beans is like over cooked chicken nobody likes either basically I was chewing rocks. Finally, the main course, we are on to the meat while it wasn’t the worst BBQ, far from it actually. It was lacking quantity. A 3-meat plate normally is splittable between 2 people from most other places; here a single person could eat only. I’m not joking I was wondering why I paid almost $20 to feel like I had not eaten a thing? That fact that you only get 2 ribs is a huge let down. Will I return here? Probably not unless I am literally craving BBQ and can’t wait to drive to a better place.
Had a family member come in from out of town and really wanted him to try good southern BBQ. Came to Soulmans on a whim and was extremely happy with our choice. They have complimentary soft serve ice cream! The meat is tender, moist, and flavorful. I had their sausage and ribs. Very, very good! The owner even came around to all of the tables to make sure we had everything we needed! We will be going back.
The brisket and ribs were really good but the chicken breast was dry. The bbq sauce was sweet and had a good flavor. I got the bake potato and it was overcooked. I guess it was cooked earlier and was on the warmer. I will go back again but Ill probably stay away from the chicken and baked potato. They had many other sides and Ill give them a try. Overall it was worth the 8 mile drive.
We have eaten there many times and its always delicious. We have also used them for catering on a few occasions and it is unbelievably good. Tommy with catering and Ricardo at the Allen location are great and if you get catering you have to order the scalloped potatoes
We had the fried fish this last Friday. It was the worst fish I have ever eaten. It was dry and chewy. Way over cooked and tiny fillets. We ended up throwing it in the trash. Expensive lesson but will never return here again. Go somewhere else. This place is horrible!
Well I do enjoy soulmans from time to time but this was not from eating at your establishment. However I very much hated the wreck I had infront of your restaurant. Just trying to find some humor in this and soulmans was in no way shape or form related to the accident.
Tried to give them another chance but its gotten worse. Drive through took 15 minutes again. Two orders of moist brisket, got dried out metal tasting lean brisket. Fried cabbage was dried out and once again no bbq sauce for one of the orders. Food actually tasted bad. Wont be going back, good luck if you do.Honestly lately it is hit or miss. Food is decent but service is painfully slow. Long waits in the drive through. 15 minutes last time only to get home without any BBQ sauce... Not sure what happened. They use to be my go to place if I didnt want to drive to far for BBQ. Hope they turn it around.
I just ate at the Allen location for the first time and I was not disappointed!!!! The food was excellent and the service was just as good. I hope the frontier fries become a permanent menu item and not just a special! The manager walked around to see how everyone was enjoying their meal. Even my very picky toddler enjoyed the sausage and pork. I look forward to going back!
Would not recommend! This was my first time trying Soulmans and I was very disappointed. I ordered a rib plate and they were way too salty. The meat was very dry and had no texture. The mac and cheese tasted very bland, almost tasteless. For the price of what I paid I would’ve expected the meal to come with a drink but it didn’t! I would just stick with Spring Creek.
Worst bbq experience ever. Meat was tasteless and boiled. Brisket had so much fat on it I couldn’t even finish my meal. I called to tell them about my experience and they just hung up and forwarded my calls. Soulmans in Lancaster, Texas has better service and food. Wish I would’ve spent my money elsewhere.
I liked the atmosphere and also the scripture and christian accents in the place. I am all for showing your Christianity publicly. I have eaten at many BBQ joints across the state. My girlfriend and I both ordered BBQ sandwiches with no sides. $6.99 each before tax. My tea was a large for $2.70 total......jeez! The sandwich was served on one of those little bitty buns....there wasnt enough meat on it for even the little bun! And it was cold! I have never been to a BBQ joint and gotten a sandwich that pitiful...especially for $6.99! The prices would have been fine had it been a regular size BBQ sandwich! I will not be back
I order to go, I get home and NO bbq sauce whatsoever!!! I had to go back to get it and then their 3 meat plate is more like a 3 pieces of meat for $16!!! The sandwich was also very small with 2 small sizes for $10!!! Not going back ever. Dickeys BBQ is SO much better value.
I started eating at Soul Mans when I worked in Mesquite. Im happy that there is one in Allen now. The meat is good and smoky with all the flavor you expect from quality barbecue. You dont really need the sauce, but the sauce is quite good, too. For sides I recommend the fried cabbage . Theres free soft serve ice cream cones too. Stand out item is the double barrel baked potato, which is a huge baked potato with tons of chopped barbecue on it. Ive had other baked potato/barbecue combos at other places and this one is the best.
Soulmans Bar-B-Que is the hands down best BBQ for the money. Ask for the brisket hand chopped. I get the moist end and the bark, but thats not everyones taste. The fried cabbage has a kick (jalapenos) and goes great with the fresh fried Okra. Dont forget the free soft serve to finish off your meal.
Awesome brisket in a very laid back atmosphere. This is a serious barbeque that doesnt take itself seriously. The location in Allen is normally staffed by kids who provide great service without realizing who amazing the food is. Also, make sure and try the ranch style beans, spicy and the best in the area.
Dine in- Overall well-rounded BBQ joint. Great smells, clean restaurant and delicious sides. 2 meat can mob and water: Sliced Brisket, smoke sausage, pinto beans and ranch potatoes. Sauce is a good balance l with maybe a hint of maple?. Overall Id recommend for a family sit down or a quick drive thru fix. $15.14
Do NOT go here. I dont know what is worse their customer service or the food. I ordered food last week for my family. I had mistaken this place for another bbq restaurant I had been wanting to try. The meat was like rubber both in taste and texture. The sides were super watery and tasteless.(macaroni and potato salad.) I have been trying since Thursday to call and get my money back. I figured because of the holiday the store might have been closed. So I tried today. I was told they would call me back after they had an opportunity to pull my order up. No call hours later, so I called them back. I was sworn up and down to that the manager would be there until 9 oclock and he would call me after his customers were gone and before he left at 9. I never received a call. I was a customer that they let down. I never should have had to wait for my situation to be fixed. They let me down and I was treated like I was the problem. This place is horrible. Dont waste your time or money. They dont care about their customers they just care if they make money. I know I will never return and I hope I can save others from my terrible mistake. THE WORST BBQ PLACE EVER. THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER. THE WORST FOOD EVER. STAY AWAY!!!!!!
The food is excellent! The only suggestion I have is to have a sign to designate where pick-up is. I arrived, for the first time, to a long line and and could not figure out where to pick up phone order. It seemed odd to cut in front of everyone to pay for my order being that everyone in front of me is also paying for their food. Staff was great and food was delicious !
Literally stuck in the drive-thru for 27 minutes, with only 2 cars ahead of me. Messed up the order completely and made me seem like it was my fault because I called them out on it. I’m not a complainer, but I’ve now been there three times, with three bad results. Soulman’s is decent bbq, however we will never go back.
Incredible rude managers to local students that park by the restaurant to go to morning activity at school (just across the street) 99% of those cars are moved well before the restaurant opens and don’t effect business. Had a manager come up to me and a friend and aggressively tell us he will tow our cars if we park there again. Will never go back here again.
I dont normally rate restaurants five star quality, but this one really blew me away! Not only is the food fantastic in taste, originality and variety, but the customer service is like no other. Everyone working there that I got to talk to genuinely seemed to care about their work. I definitely recommend Soulmans Bar-B-Que!
I love this place I drive 20 mins to get here passed 3 different bbq right by my house just to come here, sadly I probably won’t be back!! I have always had great service and great food, did they change management?? Are the owners not in there anymore?? We waited about 10 mins just to place our order the lady in front of me only ordered a chopped beef sandwich!! Waited in the line for 20 mins behind her, I finally pulled out of line and went in that poor lady was still waiting. As I went in I was not acknowledged by the 3 ladies standing there playing. Finally the older lady looked at me and had an attitude so I told her to cancel my order!! I can and will go spend my $60 somewhere else and not drive so far!!!
The sign out-side is not true We not Stingy with the Meat! unless you order EXTRA MEAT, your meat will be around the same as any other BBQ place. Ordered a baked potato with meat. The meat was WEIGHED and was not chopped but grinder through a meat grinder. I like to chew my brisket not swallow it whole. The potato was prepared first and was jammed packed with mounds of cheese to make the potato look tall/full and then the small amount of meat was packed on top of that to look huge. Limited bacon bits were placed on the potato. No chives. Just butter, cheese, sour cream and bacon bits. (FYI-The meat once grinded could be placed comfortably in two of those small sauce to go containers they have sitting above the food line). The potato was over $10.00. A small fountain drink was near $2.30. Oh I forgot about the Texas toast that came with the baked potato was toasted on one side only. The meal was just okay nothing special in my opinion, Oh and you must eat the BBQ with the potato to add flavor, its not one of those meat potatoes that have good flavor without the sause. The sauce is need to doctor the flavor.
Ordered ahead of time and upon arrival they were actually out of what I ordered. I couldn’t be mad because Vince and his staff were so kind and genuine about what they could do to fix the issue. Haven’t even tasted the food but giving 5 stars because their customer service is why I’m going back.
Just went here for my first time, excellent customer service there was also no line so I zoomed through the drive through. Great food, I ordered a BBQ sandwich with Mac n cheese and pinto beans. Wish I caught the name of the one that helped me. I went in around 3:10 pm sep 2nd. He was white with a beard is all I can recall. Thanks .
Tried the 3 meat plate with smoked Turkey, pulled pork, and the hot link. Mac n cheese and homestyle potatoes. Slice of buttermilk pie. My aunt got the 1/2 slab ribs.Being called soulmans , I expected a lil more. Nice color and char but smoke flavor totally missing from the ribs and other meats. Buttermilk pie tasted more like sweet potato. The hot link was surprisingly Hot! I can see the sandwiches could possibly be better.
Sad, it always takes 10 to 15 minutes to get through their serving line. If we walk in and they have more than 6 customers in line we will usually turn around and walk back out because we know its going to take too long to get through the line. Same experience every time. Probably the reason they never have more than two or three cars in the parking lot at a time. Food is good, but their service is too slow.
By far one of the best BBQ places in the Allen McKinney Plano or DFW metroplex.they know how to treat a customer as soon as you walk in you smell barbecue hell you smell the barbecue from the street. What I do like about this location is there a Christian location. They support their city of Allen but most of all the food is amazing read prices in the even have an ice cream machine for afterwards. I had to go to any barbecue place for lunch or dinner I probably picked this place over most spots.

2022-03-30Average at best. I ordered a sliced brisket sandwich and a order of fries. The fries were soggy and the brisket looked and tasted like a generic roast beef sandwich. They have been in business since the 70s so they are obviously doing something right but chains like Dickeys/Rudys have better BBQ than this, and their bbq isnt that good. I tried to drown it in spicy bbq sauce and ketchup but it didnt seem to help.

2021-01-16Let me start off this review by saying that the sausage was AMAZING! Now on to the meat and potatoes of the review. This is a nice little BBQ place with a rustic vibe. I would say that the price doesnt quite match the portion size, as its a little on the expensive side. Everything they had was delicious, except the pulled pork. The pulled pork was a little bland, which struck me as odd, because the Ribs, Brisket, and Sausage were flavored very nicely. The BBQ sauce was very good as well, but there was only one flavor. All in all, it was a great BBQ joint.

2021-03-03The service was great. Very timely and the drive through worker was extremely friendly. The food however was disappointing. The brisket was flavorless and watered down. The beans could have been cooked down more for country flavor. I however enjoyed the potatoe salad. I was expecting what was advertised...a little more soul.

2022-07-14Normally their chopped brisket and turkey are moist and flavorful. Lately both have been extremely dry and old tasting. Disappointing

2019-10-08My first time visiting the Dallas area and drove by this place on my way to check out Allen High school and the $60 million football stadium. Food was pretty good and the buttermilk pie was on point. I should have ordered one of the loaded baked potatoes. Waited in the drive through for quite a while but I wasnt in a hurry so I didnt mind.

2022-06-10Thank you for knocking it out of the park for our very large bbq feast party order, everyone loved the food, excellent & highly recommend!!!
