Speakeasy in other cities:
Surprisingly large venue. 2 bands were playing in the same location without very much cross musical confusion. 2 lane bowling, shuffleboard, ping pong, and retro console gameplay.Only complaint is that the music was extremely loud in a number of areas so if you are sensitive to loudness, pack ear plugs and/or move away to some of the rooms that are away from the bands
I always have a great time dancing the night away at Speakeasy! My most recent visit was on a Saturday night with 90s music and the DJ was mixing it up with perfection. I like the view of Congress Street, the cozy seating, and plenty of dance floor at every angle around the DJ. The bar tenders are always great, and being on the rooftop allows a nice breeze to flow through on those hot summer nights. To me, it seems that the people that come here love to dance without judgements and youre pretty much guaranteed to have a great time every visit!
Go for the drinks. Do NOT go for the comedy show. The mixed drinks are works of art. The staff was great. The comedians were absolutely idiotic unless you love weed jokes, and think 9/11 jokes are funny to you. Worst comedy acts I have ever been to, and Ive been to a few
Watch your credit card. Went there a few weeks ago, ordered 2 cans of beer and 2 tonic waters. Cashed out for about $15. Was charged $106 on my credit card. POS systems allow for a tip to be entered. So either they entered a massive tip or the bartenders were running up drinks on my card after I signed my receipt.
Fun place to gather with friends for live music entertainment and drinks. The place feels intimate with three floors to explore. The decor of the ground floor takes you back a few years with a beautiful bar and period lighting creating a great mood. The second floor has a two-lane bowling alley, darts, and lounge to hang out with friends. The rooftop bar and patio has lots of great seating to accommodate gathering with small or larger groups. The view is lovely as well. Lighted drink menus add to the ambience. All this makes for a night to remember.
I had a good time there and even though I had to leave early, I accidentally left my suit jacket there with my cell phone and I.D. in the pocket. When I returned, Misty and another man there helped my locate my property! Thanks to both of them and the entire staff for protecting these important things.I am very grateful.
This place has a few floors. I initially checked in to see if we could have a rooftop drink, but there was a private party going on. We opted to play shuffleboard on the middle floor, where there are some games to entertain yourself with. Theres also a full bar, and I was pleased with the drinks the bartender made for me.Theres a bowling alley, but Im pretty sure they tell everyone is broken. Im sure its a pain to supervise. The lower level has a bigger bar and there was a band playing popular covers while we were there.
Its a classy and spooky haunted music venue with a full ball room, full stage, bowling alley, roof top terrace and 4 full bars all in one place. Live music every night of the week its a definite staple for tourist and locals alike. Perfect for private events and the walk in night life.
Made a reservation for Terrace59 at the rooftop of Speakeasy downtown. This place was amazing! There were multiple levels of bars to choose from each with different types of music - anyone could find their niche here. This was one of the few spots in Austin we were able to secure a table reservation in an open air bar with views of the city skyline. A little pricey for bottles in my opinion, but definitely worth the trip if you like things a little more private with service.
2nd timer here, just like the first time, excellent experience! My wife and I tend not to go out at peak hours. We like the quiet ambiance of Speakeasy at 5. Too early? We think NOT! The drinks bartender Josh made us were made with ingredient/spirit knowledge and best of all, love. Quality human being- particular about quality and precision for our benefit, and also a freakish memory for juicy lost details.Highly recommend for a relaxed ambiance before the craziness of Thursday-Sunday night downtown Austin ensues. Also the live music is definitely interesting.Wont ever forget it.. in a good way :)
So many stairs to get to the top floor. A cool place to listen to live music in the downtown area. The bartenders are polite and make some great drinks. I had the Old Fashioned that they made really well. Would like to go back but they do charge guys a cover charge. Not sure why bc it was kind of a sausage party.
Went there for a comedy show. It was hit or miss but there were a few solid acts and the guy working at speakeasy who was introducing everyone was definitely one of the better ones.Got a Moscow mule, good as always. They have a variation with grapefruit if thats your thing. Prices were acceptable and service was good. Clean, spacious and music isnt so loud as to prevent conversation.
We reserved the Swanky Package for a birthday celebration with a group of four ladies. It was perfection! From the moment we arrived, we were treated to a VIP experience! The live band was great, the rooftop deck was stunning, and the bowling really fun. Special thanks to Mark for the history as we walked through the incredible building and for the ghost story! Also, kudos to our waitress, Sophia, for excellent service that makes us excited to come back, again! Highly recommended!
This is definitely a nice place to come and hang out. There are three levels: the ground level has nice bar and is a spacious dancefloor. As you make your way to the second level it overhangs the stage on the first and theres two-lane bowling if youre feeling competitive. Up on third the level, as the guy at the door said Mt. Everest because by the time you get there itll feel like youve climbed a mountain, your efforts will be rewarded by a plush setting ideal for a date or just lounging. Youll have a good-ish view from on high after your ascent into the stratosphere. Its a cozy place that happen to have live music the night I went, although the bartender informed me that most nights of the week there is. So if youre looking for a place to hang out with a group of friends or a to take a date you cant lose with this place...especially if you happened to have skipped leg day that week. 😉
Stay far away from this establishment! After spending 800 dollars on an inclusive vip experience for NYE that was poorly executed and a safety concern on multiple levels. I’m appalled by the lack accountability and response from their terrible management. Not only were we lied to about what we purchased but to admit that you were understaffed with inexperienced persons and blame it on Covid when there was no regard for the safety of their paying guest while holding the event is repulsive. I’d give negative stars if available.
My husband and I found this place while visiting Austin. This place is AMAZING, from the front door, Thomas, very professional and courteous, Misty and Josh bartending those famous cocktail drinks very tasteful and dreamy... Geoff(Jeff) is super friendly and the life of the party. Lets not forget Ryan who escorted us to the rooftop and was so helpful and friendly . From Comedy hour to live bands, to Rooftop parties, this place is a must-visit in Austin. They showed my husband and I the best time for his birthday. I will forever support them when I visit Austin!!! Speakeasy truly values their patrons ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
There is a lot to this place. 3 and 1/2 floors! Good music, a balcony to watch from, and even a two lane bowling alley on the half floor. Check out the lounge beds on the top floor. Weird fun kind of Euro half beds and techno trance. Go downstairs and here a Willy-type cosmic cowboy band. Fun with diverse!
Thank you for letting me have my birthday party on the roof top I loved it! The only thing that I can say was a downfall was food me in my friends were really wanting something good to eat but we were having to either walk or order door -dash but other then that I had a good night. The Courtesy manager and the staff were great!
Very nice and a fun place to visit! I dont think they had enough bartenders for a Saturday night, drinks seemed overpriced, and if they are having an event on the first floor you need to go up three flights of stairs to get to the roof (which is very nice and sometimes has a dj) small bathrooms. Nice but probably wouldnt put at the top of my list to visit again
Mixed feelings about the mixed vibe on the ground floor here. Its like they play a couple good songs then a terrible song. Theyre kinda hip, but kinda basic. Old Fashioned was a disappointment. Sound system isnt bad. Live music is a plus! You might like this place if youre a fan of both One Direction and Elvis on the same play list and dont mind mediocre cocktails or cover songs.
Great Venue for grabbing a drink and relaxing, both downstairs or on the rooftop. The staff was friendly and the drinks reasonable, bathrooms were also very clean and tidy, at closing the staff wasnt yelling to get out either just have a good night. Will definitely be back.
This place is awesome. It’s a bar that used to be an actual speakeasy and is supposedly haunted (you may see tourists on a haunted Austin tour passing through here). It’s 4 stories high, has a stage, pool table, fusball table, 2 bowling lanes, rooftop bar, and few other things
The whole team at Speakeasy was amazing to work with for our wedding after party held in the Kabret room. From the bartenders to the event managers, everyone did an amazing job and helped us to have such an incredibly fun night. We highly recommend Speakeasy for any and all events.
Good experience and event! Totally enjoyed the performances especially Malica @malicamusic (IG) and Pressure BussPipe. Nice location with good views of the stage from both the first and second floor. They had bars located and open on all three floorsThe rooftop party was also fun and entertaining.
I just love the concept! A dance hall on the ground floor, a game room with bowling on the second floor, the stares that feel like they go up to heaven, and the more DJ-esk preformance and lounge area up top - super fun! Unfortunately, Im just not the right economic class to be hanging out there. Everything is just way to expensive for me. I wish they had more affordable beverages and food options for a poor folk like myself.
Fun place! They have the levels. First floor is a really nice full bar and live music on stage! Second is Foosball, chess and bowling with a private bar. Third floor is open air patio with a dance floor and another full bar and tons of comfy spots to curl up with your hubby or chat with friends! There is usually a super cool DJ up there!
Outstanding! The have three stages! Two downstairs and one on the rooftop. The VIP lounge lets you watch both the stages downstairs. This was one of the featured venues at SXSW 19 and the bands playing there were just amazing. Theres smoking allowed on the rooftop if youre into that. Great place to hang out.
Highly recommend this bar for your private event. I had the best time on the rooftop for my engagement party. The event planner, Karen, was helpful and flexible. The bartenders who worked our event - especially Whitney - were absolutely amazing. She was so helpful and easy going, she really cared about making our event special and helping us stay within our bar tab budget.Awesome space and view!
Christian & Matt really made our night with their great personalities and humor. The atmosphere was amazing. We were lucky enough to visit on a Wednesday when they have a live salsa band. The 2nd floor is super cozy with a private bar, 2 lane bowling alley, connect 4, and seating areas. Corey was kind enough to snap pics of our group on the rooftop
Good selection of drinks. Cozy atmosphere. Came here for a holiday party. The bartender on staff was witty, and a joy to listen to as he made drinks. They had giant jenga and connect four. The bowling didnt work sadly. Music was a little odd but all in all nice experience. When fully occupied, the place can get pretty loud. The dancefloor is pretty cool, and the bathrooms are fairly clean.
The service was really good the band that played was amazing.. However they were having a venue party towards the very back of the club that you could see when you went to the bathroom and not one person was wearing a mask and they were all congregating Id say about a 100 people. When I asked a security guard why were they not made to wear a mask or at least to social distance he simply said that they didnt have too.. That is not right because I felt very unsafe sitting in the front part of the bar because the people in the bank kept coming in-and-out totally exposing the rest of us. I believe that they should be made to social distance otherwise they should have had the party upstairs on the top roof where they are not exposing anyone else. This is VERY dangerous and to the manager of the bar this is so wrong! I felt completely unsafe! You do not want people catching the COVIDZ virus and then having to let everyone know that they got it at YOUR bar. If you want to keep your business open you really need to do a better regarding the social distanceing and keep everyone comfortably safe.
We hosted our company customer conference here and a thoroughly good time was had by all. This place is a bit of a rabbit warren with the band and bar on the ground floor, games (bowling and shuffle board) on the second floor and a wonderful roof space. Our guests were able too wander through the venue playing games, listening to he band and hanging out on the roof. A great set of icebreakers.
Large club great location. 3 levels rooftop with DJ overlooks parts of downtown, nice seating. One night sat up there for 30 min, DJ was there for maybe 5 minutes. Another night DJ was there for an hour, about to leave with friends & he decides to play our request. 2nd floor has bowling! $30 for an hour. 1st floor live band. I gave it a 2 stars because of DJ, band was semi decent and because crowd is always non-existent, to the point of ...dead
The sound guy in the private room has an inability to do his job properly. The sound balance was way off and painful to deal with for anyone in the front half. When asked if he could bring the volume down, he rudely claimed he knew how to do his job then said we could leave and go somewhere else if we didn’t like it. Not the right way to behave with a group that has just rented out the venue. To the owners: there are plenty of capable sound people in this town, don’t look bad due to a bad choice.
I dont go to this bar enough! This place is awesome with its multiple stories and rooms of bars. The top story outside patio has a great view but some people might have an asthma attack from walking up all those stairs to it. Good drink prices and bands most of the time. It can get crowded to come early.
This place is a fun destination for a night out. It has three stories with a different vibe for each one. The first story has a bar and stage. They normally have live music for dancing. The second story has a bowling alley, darts, and shuffle board for those looking to play game while they drink. And then theres the rooftop with a gorgeous view of Downtown Austin. The DJ spins music while you drink in the view.
Sad, sad excuse for a “speakeasy” bar. All the drinks are made with low end liquors, mixed by people that need to have the menu in front of their face to mix them, and they charge $10-12 each. Did not have ingredients to make the first drink I ordered on their “specialty” menu and he substitute drink tasted like she pour me sour and topped it off with ice (lower bar). Third drink tasted better but was poured like an alcoholic pouring his first drink in three days. On top of my booze being inside and outside of my glass they charged me 12.99 instead of $10. They told me I ordered an old fashion when the drink they poured was clearly the drink I ordered and when ordering I pointed to it on the menu and the bartender even pointed to it to confirm what I wanted (roof top). Pretty rude to blame your customers to evade owning your mistake or malicious intentions. Drinks are a joke, staff is is worse, and entertainment is alright but they have it too loud. The building is awesome and has potential, but whoever is running the place is doesn’t know what they are doing because this place could do very well with good management. They need bar rescue!!!
The rooftop has a beautiful view of downtown Austin. The bathrooms upstairs are disgusting and really need some remodeling. The door in one stall doesnt swing all the way open and the latch to lock the door is broken. Floor Tiles are cracked and broke. Also, do not take the elevator! Scariest loudest sounds ever! There is even a sign taped to the wall instructing you whom to call if the elevator breaks. Besides that its a decent bar. They have a bowling lane as well.
I dont even know where to begin. I also feel like 1 stars is a little generous. Im not going to drone on because I know no one reads the paragraphs of Karen reviews so short version, the drinks we definently WATERED DOWN, not just like a little to much mixer watered down but like I put water in my alcohol. Secondly they WAY OVERSOLD the show we went to, I didnt want to be stuck shoulder to shoulder during a national pandemic especially when NO ONE was required to wear a mask, not even some of the staff. This place is trash just save your money.
I’ve been here twice for open mics on Mondays. It starts late (10pm), and is hosted by Ronnie Hall, a really friendly and talented singer/pianist. The vibe is nice, especially being a rooftop bar, always cool to have a view. A good amount of space and comfortable seating, you feel like you can sort of have a private spot if you want. They have a smaller selection of beers, but have a few good ones.
If you are one of those drunks who wants to be in a new room with new music and new people every time you order a new drink, you are in luck. There are a few different spaces and levels to explore here, including a pool/poker room and upstairs roof bar/loft. The rooftop patio is wonderful on a nice night. Pair that with pretty decent drinks and I am in as well.
I didnt get to spend nearly enough time here, but I loved it when I visited. The drinks were excellent, as was the service. I really like the environment and décor. Even the crowd that night was amazing. Its rare that I take a real liking to a bar so quickly, but I can honestly say that Speakeasy is one of my favorite spots in Austin, and I look forward to my next visit.
I normally love any bar with a rooftop patio, but I do think Speakeasy is majorly overpriced even compared to some nicer West 6 bars - $7 for a Dos XX in a bottle? No thanks - the lady bartenders on the roof were super sweet, but one of the ones on the Mezzanine was really rude. Not into it.
Hands down the worst costumer I have ever experienced. I had billing issues after being there the night before where one of their bartenders added more to the total than what we had consumed. I went to speak to a manager named Brad and he didn’t know how to reverse the charges that were added so he offered to take care of the whole tab for that night. After a few days I noticed that it was never refunded and went back to bar to speak to a manager. That day I met with Kevin and quickly noticed how careless he was about the situation and was incredibly rude when I confronted him about what he’s employees said they would do and even walked away as I was still speaking to him. Kevin is the most incompetent manager I have had the displeasure of speaking to and his unprofessional attitude is absolutely unacceptable. It’s astonishing that this bar would employ someone like him given the nature of the business. In total I spoke to 3 managers and the third manager was named Paul. He asked all the questions about my situation told me it would get refunded and that never happened. All these managers aren’t people of their word and have no follow through. The place itself is in a great location but the service is just atrocious. Given that I work in hotels I will recommend to any and every person that I speak with to never step foot in this place. These is no accountability in this place and it’s ran by people that can less about taking care of their patrons and more about what money they can keep for themselves even when it their mistake.
Patrick at Speakeasy was amazing with our group! They had a private event earlier that night and still made our group feel like VIPs for my sisters bachelorette party. I cant thank the staff at Speakeasy enough for the great service and awesome spot to celebrate. If you have a group, you should go there!
Secluded and perfect spot accept for the upstairs cause the bar tenders up there try to over charge you on your credit card for a total of 13 drinks 9 of them shots of tequila shots others glass of chardonnay and 2 glasses of Irish whiskey and another mix drink which they totaled the amount to $724!?!? ARE YOU SERIOUS! Best advice carry cash and stay enjoy the best down stairs with the better bar tenders!
Went on a tour for a potential rental of the venue Karen was awesome in helping plan the event. Super fun vibe and easy to see why it called speakeasy. Vintage bowling lanes multi levels inside with a few bars. And one of the nicest lounge rooftop patios in austin. Heated with a bar and amazing views.
This used to be Ethics. We came here looking for electronic music after ACL (Sunday night). The DJs were decent but it only had a handful of people here-- cant say much for how it would be on say a Friday/Saturday night. I didnt personally have a great experience here but I think this place would be pretty cool. Its been renovated quite a bit since its been taken over-- a lot more chill/laid-back than Ethics. (Although I prefer the dry ice and vibes of how it used to be more)
Was here when there was a band doing pop music mashups. It was a fun venue. There are three levels: band on the first level, bar and bowling alley (two lanes) on the second level, rooftop bar/lounge on the third level. It was fun to explore. Drinks were fine and there was plenty of space.
My favorite bar in Austin! Speakeasy has 3 levels. I HIGHLY recommend going to the second level to get drinks and relax. The music level is perfect, the bartenders are always very accommodating and fun to interact with, and there is vintage bowling and darts. You can also look over the ledge and watch the band play! I always stop by whenever Im downtown for the night.
I absolutely love this place, there really is something for everyone here and its hard to exaggerate when you say that. A massively sprawling 3-Story nightclub style building, this place is off to the side from typical Austin mainstay Dirty 6th; well known for being a psychotic wall-to-wall party weekend nights. That kind of crowd and that level of volume isnt for everyone, and Speakeasy provides a great alternative. Offering live music of varying intensity, bowling, a dance floor, (if you like dancing) and lots of stairs; this can be a great place to go and relax or to have a wild big good time, depending on what floor you choose and what night of the week you attend.Theres live music here almost every night and they often often feature local Austin or Texas artists both well known and not. In the past this has included Dean Minds of disbanded punk trio The Zip Disks, local legends Asleep at The Wheel, Austins own Ronnie Hall, (who hosts the weekly open Mic nights they hold upstairs) and nearby Houston guitarist John Garza Jr - best known for his songs Apple Pie Moonshine and Ikabod Crane. My favorite thing about this place, though, has got to be the open mic. Monday nights from 9:00pm until closing, they are hosted by local artist and vocal coach Ronnie Hall, whos just beyond great. A musician myself, Ive played there once or twice and would love to go again. The cocktails arent the fanciest or most high end, but they had good drink selection and it wasnt too expensive. Or at least not too expensive on a relative scale for a downtown bar. My main concern is that a place serve hard and cold apple cider, which Speakeasy does, so Im good.Ronnie Hall is an amazing entertainer, the bartenders were friendly and polite, and everything about the building itself - setup, design, and architecture - was fantastic. My only complaints are that theres no WiFi, and not really actual karaoke. With that, and slightly better cocktails, (not that the cocktails were bad) I absolutely would have given five stars. Will definitely be coming here again.
This is a cool spot, sure. The environment is nice, etc. But I haven’t been back since they screwed my band over. They were having some comedians or something and kept telling us we’d go on at midnight. But the comedians had to end. They locked the doors to where we were playing. No one could start coming in to experience the band until access came about. the comedians went on longer and longer and they kept telling us “oh itll be a little later” and still not opening the doors, even to set up. Finally around 1:00 they opened the doors and THEN we had to set up and absolutely no one was there because A) we promoted it when they said we’d play and B) They didnt open the doors or say anything about a band. We played this place a few times and didn’t have as many problems. But this one was BAD. I remember feeling so frustrated. I know more happened that night but can’t even remember it. We weren’t treated well and just shoved aside, despite bringing them business in the past. The sound guy was being a jerk that night too. That was about three years ago. Have I been to Speakeasy since? What do you think? The staff doesn’t know how to handle more than one thing at once, I guess.
We went to the roof top bar. It’s dirty. There’s squished, rotting food on the ledges and tables and the cushions are worn and dirty. The entire floor needs to be pressure washed. On top of that, our tab was $19 for a bottle of Stella and a martini. Would not recommend.
I come here often to see shows and bands playing. Their drinks are so so weak it tastes like soda or water. Once I literally asked the bartender to make it stronger then he just shrugged his shoulder. Its not like I want to get wasted but I want to get my 6-9$ worth drinks when I pay my money.
This used to be one of our favorite go-to spots when my wife and I got a chance to break away from the kids and get out. Unfortunately, business has slowed down and they have closed off one of the best sections of the club, not to mention the quality of the drinks has gone down. The worst part, however, was our last experience there where we were overcharged by over $28 on our tab. When I attempted to dispute it they didnt respond to my online request and refused to assist and resolve when I attempted to get it resolved in person. We certainly wont be going back and I would suggest you find somewhere else to go as well unless you like being charged for other peoples (including the bartenders) drinks!
I personally am not a big fan of the crowd here, but its definitely a popular place. They have an upstairs area which is quite the climb, but it has a great view overlooking austin. They usually have interesting events going on here. Not a place to go if youre looking for laid back or low key

2022-05-15A good venue to watch live music. The night we went there was very good 1990s cover band performing. The bartenders definitely have to hustle...very loud place with tons of people. Worth stopping by.

2022-01-22Incredible three level venue. Unfortunately the rooftop was closed during the time I visited due to the weather. The first level consist of a long bar, high tops/chairs, and a stage. Bartenders were very attentive and efficient. I love anything with ginger beer so the Ginger Bourbon Lemonade was right up my alley. The second level includes a smaller bar but has a pool table, old school bowling, shuffle board table, connect 4, and probably some other things Im missing. Second level gives patrons a different vantage point of the stage as well. Attended an Encore ATX event which was very well done, definitely want to come back to check out the rooftop.

2022-06-22Came here for an event. Never really understood how large this place was when just looking from outside. There were about 4 different events going on same night in different sections/rooms. Environment was calm. Drinks were pretty good, since they were free for this event.Last I was here visited the rooftop bar and it was pretty fun. A good spot to have fun and enjoy Austin nightlife

2021-10-06Great joint for music and hang out. Not a great place for conversation, way too loud. They do have a balcony and a roof top destination if you want to talk, but ground floor was awesome for the music.

2022-06-21No beer on tap. One bartender at the bar, line was 30 people deep. Stage and sound were good. Food was decent. Just needed more help to serve drinks and add draught beer.

2022-04-24One of the best nights out in a long time. Terrific band, quick service and the other patrons were a lot of fun. The multiple levels provide a little bit of something for everyone. Highly recommend!
