This is my favorite golf course that I have played to date abs defiantly one of the best courses in the greater Fort Worth area. Split rail is a true links course which is great because there are not a lot of links courses around. Very challenging course but extremely fun course. The course is tucked away in the hills of southern Parker county with plenty of trees and water on just about every hole you can stay cool and hot summer days when you want to get your golf game in. The course is consistently being managed and updated to keep facilities in the best possible conditions. If you have not played split rail golf you need to check it out most fun on a golf course around .
For the price paid, I was disappointed. The greens were fairly decent - and were fast but manageable. Most of the tee boxes and fairways were in fairly good condition but that could be from the recent rains and lower temperatures. There were many area of ground under repair that werent marked but the problem with this course is the fact that it isnt a TRUE links course. It has the length, but thats it. The bunkers are a joke! Theyre filled with pebbles and actual rocks - some twice the size of your golf ball. The practice area is nice but doesnt make up for the fact that you can play a course right down the road that is in better condition for the cost of this links style golf course that isnt even a links golf course. Unlikely to go back to this course. I can think of a dozen other courses in the area in better shape that cost the same amount of money Id rather play.
First off, this place is in great shape and not why Im reviewing poorly. Heard good things about this course so we drove out from Fort Worth to see what its all about. They had a shotgun start tournament the same day in the afternoon but failed to mention that. They were cleaning up the course and it was one of the loudest courses Ive ever played. The pace of play is really slow and the marshal asked our group to not hit provisional ball off the tee and to let the group behind us go through. Well long story short we were right behind a two sum on every tee box. Cant do anything about that. The staff had been unfriendly and I will never come back out to this course. Going to keep my business with the city courses in Fort Worth they have always been friendly.Good luck folks.
Not sure what happened here— it’s usually my favorite public course. Played this morning. Fairways 1 & 2 were so aggressively punched it was hard to find grass to hit from. The beautiful links-style mounds covering the course full of natural grasses were burnt to a crispy yellow. Tee boxes were full of weeds and mud. It was sad to see the course in this shape. Looks more like lack of quality care than summer drought. Hate to see a place I’ve so enjoyed for a number of years fall apart like this.
I have no idea how someone could rate this course below 5 stars. The layout is fantastic (challenging), the conditions were virtually perfect given the crazy rainfall lately, and every staff member I encountered was pleasant. Best public greens Ive played in DFW.Split Rail team, keep up the good work!
Course is a good course and is off the DFW golfing radar so it isnt painfully slow like many other places. Usually not much waiting throughout your round. It has teeth from either of the back 2 tee boxes 7000/7400 yds but the firmness of the fairways tend to offset much of that distance if you are hitting it well off the tee. The greens were much faster than when i last played it. That was nice. However, some fairways are on the verge of getting too dry. Good grass base but they are getting very crispy in this heat. I hope they can keep up with them. Many of the run up areas short of the greens are brown. Other than that everything about the course was great. Wish there had been a cart girl there though. Didnt see one the entire round.Great practice areas and they are very green even in this heat.
Go check it out! Yeah the guys at the counter can be a little less than bubbly but they arent rude by any means. Its a beautiful open layout on the front nine with a few narrow and tree lined fairways. With a good balance of the same on the back nine. And in my eyes a key to a Good golf course is LEVEL TEEBOXES, which Split Rail has! This course has something to offer all skill levels.-written by a local-
I played this course about a year and half ago and swore Id never play it again. Well, some friends convinced me to play out there again today (6/28/15). Just proves you should never go back on a promise you make yourself. This course is a joke. The green fee is way out of line ($55) for what you get. The fairways are ok but the greens are crap. Nothing but sand and dry grass and he bunkers are like concrete. I play 2-3 times a week in the Fort Worth area and there are so many courses that way out shine this mess at half the price. Go if you must but be forewarned. I will say the pace of play was good because everybody was smarter than us and were playing someplace else. Never again!!!!
I was very disappointed with the course. I have played this course several times in the past. They should be ashamed of themselves for charging full price with everything going on. I understand the greens being sanded, but the course is under construction adding and changing sand traps. We were playing with construction going on and gravel in the sand traps. I even understand making changes during the gold season but dont charge full price when your course is in that kind of condition.
The greens roll about a 6, while other courses in the area are rolling twice that. The staff is absoultley jerks. I had been playing there quite a lot but never been treated right. Have been asked by the greens keeper to pick up balls on practics green while he went and made out with his girlfriend in the car. They never give twilight fees or juniour discounts. Strongly do not suggest this course.
Visiting from out of state with my teenage son and was treated very rudely. Ive played all over the US and hands down, this guy at the cash register tops the list. Treated us so bad that we walked out before even paying. Left and played Squaw Creek, five miles away and received a warm Texas welcome. They (Split Rails Golf Course) need to drive north a little and have their clubhouse help learn how to treat customers.
This course is and has been the most enjoyable experience Ive had including TPC Scottsdale, The Phoenician, Tiburon Naples Fl, Colonial Country Club Ft worth tx Shady Oaks CC and Hawks Creek GC Ft Worth An enjoyable, challenging, and well maintained pleasure to play!!! Not for the faint of heart!!!

2022-05-20Course ok but not a single bathroom on course and no food at snack bar other than junk chips. Ranger told us we were behind. We have a disabled player and were moving quickly considering that and players behind us only waited on one hole. Feels like discrimination.

2021-11-01Today my friends and I went to this establishment to play a quick round of golf. We politely walked into to get details about playing. We were greeted very rudely by the guy behind the counter and he proceeded to make fun of our clothes and make us feel down about ourselves. We were instructed to change and we took a long trip home to put on golf clothes. Then, we came back dressed more appropriate for the occasion. The guy then made fun of our clubs and golf equipment. At this point we didn’t even want to play anymore simply because of how we were treated. We didn’t even get to play and we had a bad halloween. Don’t come here they are mean

2020-10-12Wow, first time at this course and was impressed with the conditions. The Greens were super fast and fairways in good conditions. The fairways were not very plush, but well maintained, didn’t see any bare ground. Will definitely come back!

2020-09-12Outstanding golf course and great staff. Consistently for the money one of the best in the Metroplex. The greens are some of the best, and I love the layout. It is a challenge regardless of what tees you play.. Play Split Rail - you wont be disappointed.

2020-06-27Course is in good shape - a few spots of standing water in fairways and bunkers from recent rain but the playability was still very good. 2 Star rating because they charge extra to ride single in a cart. The only course Ive played this year that is doing that.

2020-10-12Scheduled back to back tee times before a tournament. Management literally followed and babysat us around the course because we were new visitors. We complained and requested some privacy. They refused to let up and still followed us, driving across the green as we played, watching with binoculars, through all 18. Completely unnecessary supervision for a professsional, unbelligerent group of men. The fee was also steep considering the course was unkempt and needed work.
