I have been taking my pets here for almost a decade, and I have *always* had incredible service. The clear communication on patient care and pricing is super appreciated and everyone is always so warm and friendly to myself and to my animals. Thank you for all you do! :)
In so my pup can have a surgery my normal vet isnt comfortable performing. I had never heard of a Fear Free Certified vet, which is great for my dude who gets extra nervous around new people and places. These folks really seem to care about the wellbeing of pets they treat.Edit: Just 2 days after his surgery he feels great! Thank you guys so much! 💓
Dr. Sabo was amazing with my cat and their office is incredibly stress free for the animals. My cat was exploring the room, scratching on scratching posts and being more inquisitive than Ive seen her in a long time. Great place that really stands behind their fear free certification!
Dr Sabo was amazing in the intro appointment I set up for my epileptic pup. He is on every medication possible and we are still struggling to keep his seizures under control. Dr Sabo had obviously taken time to thoroughly review his files from our previous vet and neurologist and came prepared with additional questions and suggestions. She was very knowledgable and made me excited to move forward with some new treatment ideas!
If I can give more than five stars, I would! I cant begin to express how grateful I am for everyone here at STVH. I am a new customer and I can already see that my dog is in great hands. I mean I saw it from the start when one of the techs came to get him. He was happy, didnt bark or growl and gave him kisses. He never gives anybody kisses unless he knows them. Once again I am truly grateful for the doctors and staff here at Star of Texas veterinary hospital. If you are looking for a great place to take your pet with the peace of mind knowing theyre in good hands and will be cared for, this is definitely the place.
Star of Texas Veterinary is AMAZING! If you are lucky enough to live close to this veterinary hospital and you are looking for one for your furry family members, STOP LOOKING, THIS IS THE PLACE! We just recently moved in the area and needed a Veterinary Hospital for both our Yorkie and German Shepherd. Just reading the reviews we were sold but still worried because well...you never really know. Since then, we have been back multiple times with our pets, we were behind in their shots and our Yorkie turned out to be diabetic and Star of Texas Veterinary Hospital did and continue to do an amazing job with caring and performing all the necessary steps to make sure our furry babies are taken care of. All the technicians are super professional and nice, even when you drop off your loud whining German Shepherd. :) Its no wonder why they are rated #1 and also difficult to get an appointment in. If you ever have the pleasure of working with Dr. McCoy, she is amazing and has done a terrific job taking care of our Yorkie during such a difficult time. Thank You Dr. McCoy! If you are worried about costs, the pricing is very reasonable. We moved from the Kyle/Buda area and the cost was more out there then what Star of Texas Veterinary Hospital charged which was another blessing. The whole team at Star of Texas Veterinary Hospital is simply amazing. Give them a call and book an appointment, you will not be disappointed. Thank You Star of Texas Veterinary Hospital for everything you have done for our family!
All of the veterinarians and staff are fabulous. Theyre caring and responsive. The training you all have and your caring for our pets is so meaningful to pet parents. Extra time taken to investigate concerns. Star care staff is excellent. You can tell they love their furry clients and their jobs. They answer questions and concerns quickly and give full information. One of our four dogs is very nervous, so the outdoor exam option is great for her.
Best vet in Austin. Actually care, and give you good advice and up front pricing. They have the best prices Ive found in the Austin region. I really appreciate the honesty, and how they dont push expensive treatments. They give you usually 2-3 options, a higher cost and a budget friendly cost. Saved my cat when she ate a string (no harm), but the peace of mind was so worth it.I now use them for checkups and yearly shots. The FVRCP 3 year shot was cheaper than emancipet, and didnt have to wait in line for 2 hours. Rabies shot is on par with emancipet as well.Seems like a good local business too. Ive tried the chain vets and had bad experiences with both VCA and TRHIVE. While THRIVE had a lower physical exam fee, you get what you pay for. My pharmacy needed to reach them for questions about a prescription, and they ghosted them.
I absolutely must write an excellent review for this vet. They create a new standard for veterinary care--or really any care-based service!Star of Texas is the best veterinary office I’ve ever encountered and I have visited at least a dozen from living in different cities across the country. I called the morning after I found an infected sore on my dogs paw and was able to be seen straight away. I was met with hospitality, generosity, and enthusiasm for my furry friend, Wolfgang.Every person in the office clearly loves animals and wanted my elderly dog to feel happy and comfortable—much extra care and attention was given. The vet I saw, Dr. Samon, was relaxed and knowledgeable and I immediately felt at ease and trusted his experience. Offhand, I asked about my dogs diet and he generously shared helpful details about how to serve my dogs aging needs. Im so used to vets feeling rushed and over-prescribing treatments. Instead the associates at Star of Texas were finding ways to save me money, including gifting my dog a Heartgard because I didnt have it while traveling. I live in San Francisco, and if I ever have another big-cost procedure come up for my dog, I am definitely flying to Austin for a visit.Proof in the photo--my dog was terrified once he realized we were at a vet, but after being handled by a technician, he was all smiles!
STVH has helped out my dog so much! Hes more of a special needs case and hes a senior, any previous vet office Ive taken him to theyre never able to get any proper work done or would just run me in circles for years without any improvement. Im really happy I switched to this office especially because theyre certified to work with animals with anxiety. My sweet buddy is in much better care now, and hes so much healthier and happier than before. Theyre very honest and open which is greatly appreciated!
My pets have been patients of Star of Texas Veterinarys for the past six years. The vet techs and physicians have been compassionate and thoughtful in their care and recommendations. They are professional and go the extra mile to address the health issues my pets have faced, but more importantly they are honest. During the thirty six years Ive lived in Austin, my pets have been cared for by five different veterinary clinics, and I will never have to look for another clinic. The vet. techs and doctors who care for my pets.
I can always count on these people to do whats best for my dogs. They are committed to what they do and to providing high quality care for the animals. I also appreciate that they have a relationship with each of our pets, so taking them in feels like seeing members of our extended family.
I cannot say enough good things about this place. I have a 12 y/o chow who needed surgery for quality of life reasons, and every other vet I’d been to was either dismissive or extremely pessimistic about surgery at his age and wanted to just stick him on painkillers. Dr. Samon was recommended by a friend, and the entire staff was great from the beginning. I received a full explanation of all my options, as well as a sense of confidence that my dog’s age wasn’t the massive barrier it had previously been portrayed as. My pup is recovering from surgery now and I couldn’t have hoped for a smoother process, I’m incredibly thankful I came here.
Staff is very friendly, incredibly patient and thorough with questions. We recently had our dog treated, including check-up and minor surgery, and felt supported, informed, and positive about it. The booklet that was sent home was full of information and helpful, and the picture and opening note written as if from our dog was incredibly cute and made me laugh at a time when I was worried. As kind and helpful as this was, I would be remiss if I did not also mention the extreme kindness and compassion we received when we brought our very elderly cat for treatment and, then, for his end-of-life visit last year. Needless to say, this was very difficult and heart wrenching for us. George was 22+ years old, and had been our beloved cat his entire life. The staff was kind and patient in helping us through this very difficult time, and I will always appreciate it.Sincerity and kindness combined with helpful, understandable information. Thank you!
Brandy had her bump removed and teeth cleaned by the extraordinary staff of Star of Texas Vet. Hospital. This groggy baby (9 yrs young) was returned to me safe and sound. She was handled with great care and I am so impressed by their customer service and attention to detail. Pleasantly surprised, I received a comprehensive summary of my pups stay, complete with copies of her x-rays! I have never seen her x-rays!
Dr. McCoy was wonderful with not only the new puppy but also explaining things and letting my 2 year old Granddaughter help. The care yall have given for our dogs over the years is second to none. The communication and the genuine care and compassion of the doctors and ALL the staff is what keeps us coming back and also recommending Star of Texas to any I know that is looking for a veterinarian.
Just had my first appointment with Star of Texas. I was extremely pleased with the care shown to our 13yr old Labrador. Samantha and Dr.Alexander were amazing. Very attentive and caring to my dogs needs and condition. If your looking for an amazing vet, I highly recommend Star of Texas. They will be our go to facility in the future. Thank you for the amazing care and personal touch!!!
We have never been happier with a veterinarian group. The staff is professional, and genuinely compassionate and caring. I have had dogs my whole life and can honestly say I have not loved a group of care givers more than Star of Texas. The sincerity of each and every team member
Holley - our go-to tech, and Dr. Sabo are the best. Having the outdoor space as an option for exams makes our dogs much less anxious and the overall experience more enjoyable. I am always confident that my pets are getting the best care. I love that Star of Texas is willing to work with my very anxious pups to make their visit as stress free as possible!
The staff was extremely friendly and absolutely great with my pet! Everyone was very informative and Bentley left Happy as Ever for getting an A+ on his annual exam!! The staff that Star of Texas has really makes every visit wonderful and I know Bentley will always be in good hands when he is there!!
We just had our first visit at Star of Texas and I’m very pleased. Our puppy is very fearful of new people and all of the staff made an effort to help him feel comfortable, including the FOH. Holley and Dr. McCoy worked with us to complete our puppy’s vaccines without putting him under too much stress, and we have a plan in place for helping him going forward. The wait time to see the vet and get checked out were much shorter than I’ve experienced at other clinics, which was nice.
Outstanding care! Our regular vet could not see our kitty, and Star of Texas worked us in. I fully believe they saved our furry family member in doing so. They were kind, patient, and timely. The vet listened carefully to our cats symptoms and responded with a perfect treatment plan. They were incredibly knowledgeable, professional, gentle, affordable, and kind. They communicated carefully at every step. We cannot thank them enough!!!
This was our very first visit. Although I didnt get to meet Dr Sabo in person, I was very impressed with all the info she provided via phone. Our pups were treated so well...we loved the swag bag and notebook for medical records! Staff are super friendly and efficient. Thank You! Friendly and efficient service
The entire Staff of STAR OF TEXAS is diligent well mannered, intelligent, WELL TRAINED & compassionate: they treat your animal with sensitivity & kindness. They are well staffed & responsive to your questions & requests. They are the BEST VETERINARY HOSPITAL /CLINIC in AUSTIN. They are honest & treat my 2 canines like family. I am grateful to have had them care for my current & past canines over 16 years. My dogs have had healthy & happy lives because of their high standards of care.
The doctors and staff were extremely helpful and calming. I had a very bad day, waking up with my dog having a seizure. I not only got a work in appointment that same day, but the doctor took the time to carefully explain everything that was going on with my boy, and made sure I was comfortable with the treatment plan. Doctors care and passion really impressed me and is why I will keep bringing my pets to star of Texas .
We rescued a puppy and I wanted to be able to be present for her 1st appointment at the vet. Star of Texas offers backyard appointments at their clinic, during the pandemic, and it was perfect! The dog was relaxed outside, the tech performed the exam right there and the vet came out to do the same. They did need to take her in to shave her and draw some blood, but everyone was so kind and warm, our pup was totally at ease. We will be back with our other dogs as well!
Dr Alexander and the entire staff were terrific! From the time we arrived and checked in, to the time we finished, was nothing less than superb service. The care our dog got was exceptional. Dr Alexander took time to thoroughly explain our dog’s health. I highly recommend her and Star of Texas to anyone.
This is an excellent Veterinary Clinic/Hospital. The staff treats you with respect, kindness, and are very professional. They treat the animals the same and do everything they can to make them feel comfortable. The communication is great and much appreciated. Thank you
I have a very nervous pup. Our first visit to Star of Texas was great. The staff was amazing, and we did a backyard appointment which cut down my dog’s stress level. We left confident with a diagnosis and a treatment plan which included options in case she didn’t show improvement. My pup was happy and on her way to healthy. I will definitely be taking her back to Star of Texas.
We have been visiting the Star of Tx Vet Hospital for at least 15 years. We have had many cats and dogs treated there and trust them completely. What we appreciate most are their professionalism, patience, friendliness, honesty, and the outstanding care our furry friends get. They have our family’s highest recommendation.
I cannot say enough good things about Star of Texas Vet Hospital. I have been taking my dog there for basic shots and care for the past couple of years and they have been just wonderful. Today, a dog that got loose attacked my dog and hurt his neck. Dr. McCoy saw him first thing this morning and took wonderful care of him even though the clinic was extremely busy. She was careful to explain everything she did and why. The vets and techs are extremely kind and loving and take the best possible care of the animals. Thank you to Star of Texas for being the best!!!
I love the staff at Star of Texas Veterinary Hospital - they have always treated me with kindness and respect, and I feel like my dog gets the absolute best medical care. They listen, care about their clients and pets, and always go above and beyond. I wouldnt take my pets anywhere else. The staff are welcoming, accommodating, and friendly. They truly care and listen to my concerns and questions. I am so thankful to have them for my pets!
Amazing vet and team. They are focused on a holistic approach to taking care of your pet. Been seeing Dr. McCoy and Dr. Sabo for 4 years now. I live on the other side of town and I still drive in because I don’t trust anyone else. Good price, great care, and they remember me and my pets every time.
I was referred to Star of Texas by the Vet we had originally been using for quite some time and were highly fond of. I was in need of specific OFA testing to be conducted on my Vizsla and was shocked at how fast they booked a new patient appointment- literally the same week! my initial phone call, i was asking numerous questions and they were amazingly patient and sweet to a point where we laughed many times. Upon bringing my dog there for her appointment for the testing, i was amazing not only of the person who spoke with me on the phone, but also the technicians who came to our vehicle to get our dog and their honest and sincere disposition of liking what they do and really enjoyed it. I received followup promptly on how our dog was doing, and was kept aware of not only how well the procedure went, but most importantly how well my dog did and or reacted. I like that they are a certified fear-free clinic and gave the extra attention our dog needed in her frightful state and the compassion they had. With this first time ever experiencing the clinic, I made the decision for Star of Texas to be our primary vet and had our vizslas records sent over from the other clinic. - I highly recommend
Wonderful first experience at STVH. Everything was timely, they had great communication and a great staff. And the swag bag at the end was a wonderful touch. Were very happy for our animals to be a part of such a great practice that aligns with all our animal beliefs.
The Star of Texas Vet hospital provides fantastic care. The texting system was particularly useful when filling out pre-appointment questionnaires and receiving updates regarding appointment times. All of the staff was incredibly kind and attentive - particularly with regards to their efforts in reducing stress and fear related to veterinary appointments.
Everyone is super sweet and helpful. My senior cat had several abscessed teeth and they were able to take them out and fix him up for a very reasonable cost. Other vets I have taken him to tried charging over 1000 bucks for the same treatment that was only about 6 or 700 ish. They also made sure to text me after the appointments were over to see how he was feeling. Definitely recommend these guys!
I chose Star of Texas because its the only fear free certified hospital in Austin (and a cat friendly practice). I live North Austin and the drive was worth it to me to seek out the kind of care a practice like that provides.During the visit, they took my dog to a fenced backyard with me so he could be relaxed and the technician took a picture of him and offered him cheese treats while the vet examined him. Both were so kind and cheerful and I felt heard and confident about the quality of care Max and I could expect going forward. When I left, the technician surprised me with a gift bag of treats, toys, doggie bags, name tag, and a personalized plastic binder with his medical history and the photo of him she had taken earlier printed on the front of it. I was blown away. These details indicate a dedication to client care and again indicate my decision in choosing this hospital for veterinary care was the correct one.
Update: 2 weeks later. Changed from 5 star to 3 star. I had to follow up 2x since our appointment and I was disappointed in the hospital’s communication. I felt like I wasn’t told treatment options, what they involve, and the pro’s and con’s of each. Open and direct communication is really important to me and I didn’t trust that was what I was getting from the Doctors.First review: Great first visit. Staff was friendly, Doctor was helpful and informative. And I was pleasantly surprised at the low cost of the visit. I found my new vet! Even with the curbside visit, I could tell the staff really cares about my pet’s well-being
Star of Texas has always taken good care of our family dog and cat. Theyre efficient, knowledgeable, friendly, compassionate, and simply great with both dogs and cats. Their rates are fair, and they clearly care a lot about the animals they care for. Our little guys love visiting with the staff - the entire grounds and office set up are very pet friendly. Love these guys - they are GREAT! A great neighborhood institution - highly recommend!
Best group of people we have ever worked with in any profession. They have given our pets great care for over five years. Dr. McCoy has been great with our animal family members. Best and most caring group of people we have ever come in contact with. Every person that has helped us has been exceptional in their efforts. The way they make you feel that you are the only patients they have while they are treating all of the other people around you the same way is special. Thanks to every one of you. We appreciate and recommend them wholeheartedly.
Great service and atmosphere here! I have a senior pup with some complicated issues and a few different medications. The staff is always quick to help me get refills, and has been able to see him same day for concerns I’ve had in the past. Even when he doesn’t come in with me they’ll ask how he’s doing which makes me appreciate how much they care. I’ve been impressed with their phone service and fast response time to my questions as well. The office and exam rooms are probably the most comfortable I’ve ever seen, which takes some of the stress of ‘going to the doctor’ away. For our last appointment my pup was given a fun peanut butter mat to entertain himself, so he hardly knew he was being handled at all. Their great attitude and low stress place makes me happy we’ve found a vet to call home! Thanks to all the staff here!
Great People, good offices. Dr. McCoy really knows what she is doing and is kind and compassionate. She helped me through the loss of my 19 year old cat (and kept her going for longer than she might have) and is now taking care of my 9 year old adoptee. Everyone at Star of Texas really cares about my pet. Their pandemic safety measures are excellent.
My dog was one of the first pups when Star of Texas opened 15 years ago. In 15 years, with 2 dogs, I have always felt they received top care and that every staff member genuinely cares for the animals. The team has always remained honest and trustworthy and I have never felt like I was being sold treatment.
Star of Texas continues to be top notch care for my almost 6 yr old Boxer. Always making sure my pup is up to date on everything important to his health. Since 10 weeks old, Jett has been seeing their friendly staff and kind professional doctors. Thanks for caring Texas STAR!!!
All of my fur-babies go to Star of Texas. We always feel welcomed and well taken care of each visit. The staff is super friendly and they always give so much love to my babies. Argos, our Husky Shepherd mix puppy enjoyed visiting for each of his vaccinations and he was never stressed. I highly recommend Star of Texas, not only for the fabulous care but also because of their expertise. Dr. Samon always answers all of my questions and has given excellent advice. Very happy with their service!
Me and my family use Star of Texas for all our dogs. Especially during these times, they have adapted and made the process seamless. I had a yard visit so I could stay with my pup and get all my questions answered. Weve even set up Victory visits to ensure Finley feels safe during his time with the doctor and staff. I appreciate the time they took with me and him.
I cannot express enough gratitude towards the doctors and staff at Star of Texas Vet Hospital. Ive been bringing my dogs, Pico 10 yo Chihuahua mix & Bella 8yo Shepherd mix, here for 6 years now. Its hard to find a facility that meets all your needs. Our animals are our family and we want what is best for them. Every time I call I am welcomed with a cheery voice that is willing to help and if I have to leave a message it is returned promptly. When its time to visit we are welcomed by a very pleasant, caring, and an attentive staff. The environment is also very inviting, not your sterile hospital feel! The staff and doctors have come to know my dog and his crazy little personality. They have never once judged him or me but smile and welcome us with open arms. After our visits whether it was a check up, minor issue or something serious they follow up with a call to see how my fur child is doing. If you are looking for a place that you can trust to take care of your beloved animal and not feel like you are being taken advantage of, I highly recommend you give this place a chance. You will not be disappointed.Im grateful for everyone there and all they have done and continue to do for us!
Ive been going to Star of Texas Vet for several years now and the type of care they provide has been top notch ever since my first visit. Every person in that clinic is so sweet, kind & caring. Ive been to many vet clinics before & used to work at one too. At Star of Texas the level of compassion cannot be compared to other clinics. They genuinely care about you & what is best for your babies. They love our furbabies more than anything. I will continue to go to Star of Texas Vet for many years to come.
Can’t say enough good about Dr.McCoy and all the staff! They have cared for my two dogs over the past ten years. We, (‘my girls’ and I), have always been treated with great care, compassion, empathy, and professionalism.Dr. McCoy is very knowledgeable, takes time to listen, and offers great low cost solutions. She has brought my Sadie through surgical removal of bladder stones, and a recent bout of vomiting back to her sassy self.My previous dog, Coco, developed multiple health issues over the years including seizures, low thyroid, pancreatitis, and gall bladder disease. Dr. McCoy managed everything well and gave her a good life for many years. She and the staff were great when I made the difficult decision that she’d had enough and to put her to sleep. She left this world on a dreamy cloud of love and happiness.Thank you for all you have done, and keep up the wonderful work you do.
Dr. Kim Sabo and & Holly were amazing. It was our first time taking our cat to the vet and they were very caring and thoughtful with how they took her in and explained everything to us. We did a zoom call while they checked up on her and answered all our questions. I would not hesitate to take her in again. Thanks again !
Vet tech Michelle and Dr. Samon gave our poor foster dog Tux needed relief from non-stop alergic chewing & scratching. We had been trying everything that APA prescribed to no avail for 8-wks....kudos to Star of Texas! (Also got an appt. in 5-days, which was great in these busy times for Vets!)
My dog HATES vets...so I was really surprised at how fast she warmed up to the staff and vet at this clinic. They were all super sweet to her while staying aware of her timidness and not pushing her too hard which made her comfortable super fast. And that made the exam SO much easier than past ones we have gone to. They got her diagnosed and fixed up in no time and even made us a binder to keep her medical records in. This is a really awesome place. I would recommend it to anyone.
Dr. Alexander was very thorough with her exam. She addressed all of our questions and concerns very patiently, and put our minds at ease especially since we could not be in the exam room with our dogs due to covid. I really appreciate all the safety precautions they are taking due to covid as well.
We take both our cat and dog here, and have had a great experience with each person on staff. Our pets have had a trying time the last couple of months with emergency surgery and other significant health issues, and everyone was very kind, supportive and always made us feel comfortable and well-taken care of. Would highly recommend bringing your fur babies here!
WOW - Star of Texas! The team here is professional, helpful, and very caring. In an emergency situation they worked us in immediately and saved our dogs life. The doctors are knowledgeable and compassionate but realistic. Recently one of my dogs had to have dental surgery. This is an expensive process (no matter where you have it done) and I was a little stressed by the time the surgery date arrived. The front desk team member was very patient with me and the doctor, Dr. McCoy, called me to address my concerns prior to surgery (she had covered the expense side prior to scheduling but dental surgery is tricky and there can be additonal expenses). She offered several creative options for saving a little here and there (calling the Rx into a people pharmacy, telling me where to purchase the protective cone for recovery, etc.) that really helped and showed genuine empathy for me and my budget, as well as compassion and medical concern for my pet. The follow-up is also great as they check in by phone to make sure that all is going well. My pet is now on the mend and feeling great. In short, I highly recommend Star of Texas. This is a practice that cares for the whole family.
We chose Star of Texas after leaving our vet of over a decade. I no longer felt like a trusted friend, with a beloved fur child. I felt, and was treated like, a no limits credit card. After much research I found Star of Texas. They care first about your fur baby. They care about you. And they make decisions offering you the care, and love, you and your baby need in difficult times. The compassion, the feeling of not being rushed in saying goodbye to our beloved children. We never felt hurried to get out of the room. I had to bid farewell to 4 babies in 11 months. I also lost my spouse the day I lost my JellyBean. My neighbors pitched in and purchased a baby Chihuahua for me. I had sworn to never have another fur child. I got Scarlett Rose January 15th. When the time came for vaccines, financially, I should have chosen the cheaper, assembly line type vet care. My 20 year old said NO WAY! And even offered to pay Scarletts care. I felt certain they would love my baby the way we do. A veterinarian is like a primary care doctor. They know YOU, your baby, your family. And we will be using Star of Texas for her spay and microchip. No amount of money can give you the comfort of your baby HAVING THE BEST! Star of Texas IS THE BEST!!
Ive been taking my pups to Star of Texas Vet Hospital for almost 10 years now. I must confess that I first chose them based on convenience (5 min from where I live) and because the online reviews indicated the prices for the services were reasonable (price is always a concern for me).I was happily surprised in the very first visit. They created this beautiful binder, where I kept all my dogs medical information. It was easy to keep the papers organized and keep track of every visit, treatment, etc. When my dog was older, she developed a lump on her back. They checked it to make sure it was benign, and they decided to leave it alone. Dr. Samon was very clear that we didnt have to put her through anesthesia just for aesthetics. I really appreciated his way of thinking on that. It felt like he follows that philosophy of first, do no harm. There is always a risk with anesthesia, and having him choose to not put her through surgery just because of looks was a testimony of his being responsible and caring as a doctor. Dr. Samon is very empathetic, and as my dog got older and she became weaker, he prepared us for the next steps. When the day came to put my dog to rest, Star of Texas was busy and didnt have any openings. Still, they didnt ignore my situation, and urged me to seek a veterinarian immediately. In fact, they recommended another vet clinic. And the clinic they recommended took really good care of me and my dog. I never expressed how appreciative I was of Star of Texas Vet Hospital for that. A few days later, they sent me a card signed by the staff, again showing that they cared about my loss. This January I adopted another dog, and I took him to Star of Texas right away. Dr. Samon noticed his teeth were very bad, and warned me that we would have to do something about that pretty soon. We finally had my dogs teeth cleaning + 3 extractions done. I came home feeling prepared to take care of him during his recovery as Dr. McCoy went over what had been done (pictures of before and after), how he was feeling, and help set my expectations to what might come. And the staff always gives us a call the next day to ensure everything is okay.I can give many other examples of the great services that Star of Texas Vet Hospital has provided. I appreciate the quality of the services, the empathy of the staff, the cleanliness of the place, and the resources they offer with their services, as well as whats available on their website (which I noticed has been redesigned and looks much better, and its much easier to navigate).
I love how everyone that works here has such a high commitment to animals. Its the only place I have found that I actually feel comfortable leaving my dog if Im not with her. I dont trust easily when it comes to her. Great on communicating with me as well while I was waiting on my dog.
Our first visit here was during Covid. Because of this, I had to stay in the car while the cats were taken inside. The thought of this was a little difficult, but the staff made this especially easy. Not only were the logistics easy, but they were SOOO friendly and sweet that I had no worries about sending in the cats without me. This clinic went the extra mile to make me feel comfortable, they were nonjudgmental about my financials, and they even took photos of the cats and gave us a sweet little shwag bag. I DEFINITELY recommend this clinic.
The vets are very good here. The place has a homelike atmosphere which is something you dont always find in veterinary clinics. The staff is courteous and helpful. The prices are reasonable. I changed from another veterinary clinic that was bought out by a chain because Star of Texas is more reasonable and close to us.
STVH practices very high standards of care. Ive experienced very few hiccups, and theyre almost always addressed with an offer to make things right. The front desk staff are always friendly and helpful. My pets all have very different personalities, quirks, and fears. STVH is always understanding and finds ways to appreciate each of my pets for who they are.Fair warning: this hospital can be pricy, but you’ll always get what you pay for.
Dr. McCoy is great! My dog, Samantha, is older and I get very paranoid about every bump she gets. Dr. McCoy is experienced enough to know which are problematic and which are nothing to worry about. She doesn’t run up big bills with unnecessary tests, anesthesia, or imaging. She is very professional and very reassuring, and I’m glad I have someone I trust to care for my older pup. Five stars.
As first time pet owners, we could not have chosen a better place to take our little pup. The entire staff at Star of Texas has made us feel entirely comfortable and knowledgeable while raising a healthy puppy. They go above and beyond to make personal relationships and are all around 5 stars. We will continue to advice every pet owner in the area to try out Star Of Texas Vet.
Dr. Samon and his staff are amazing. They are articulate in listening about your pets needs. Not only do they provide the best veterinary care for your pet, they also provide owners with information to optimize the health of your pet. They always make you feel your visit is the most important part of their day.
My 18 year old cat spent most of his life under the Star of Texas care. When it was time to put him down, Start of Texas wanted $$$. They claimed that it had been over a year since his last checkup, so they needed to do a full workup, even though the prier year check up ended with its about time, youll know when to put him down. I had to find another vet to do the deed.Dont be fooled, its all $$$ to them.
Thank you 100x over to the staff at Star of Texas. My husband pulled into this place during a moment of panic after my dog was injured and were so glad he did. The staff was professional, compassionate, and eager to help. Special shout out to Kristen for her sweet disposition and pep talk when I was being super emotional. Tilly will definitely return-hopefully on better terms!
Today was one of the worst days off my life. Im still crying writing this, but those ladies helped me so much. They were professional, but personable at the same time. The Vet was direct with me, and made me feel at ease with whatever she decided as a plan of care for my baby. I wish I could give more Stars. If you are looking for a place where they will care for your dog and treat them like one of their kids, this is where you should go.
We loved the facility, it’s very welcoming. All staff were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. We truly appreciated how much time Dr. Sabo spent with us and how patient she was in answering all of our questions. We are confident that we can trust them with our sweet fur baby!
I really appreciated how friendly and patient you guys were with my pup, as she can be super hesitant when visiting the vet. How friendly and thorough you were in reviewing my reason for visit as well as how patient and calm you guys were with my pup since the vet isnt her favorite thing.
We took are little Peanut there to get his teeth cleaned not too long ago because my wife and I felt like we had yet to find a place we were truly comfortable with. Peanut is less than four pounds and we worry a lot that something might happen to him given how small he is, so it is very important for us to find a place we feel will take good care of him. Star of Texas went above and beyond and really made us feel like they cared about our little monster. It looks like they did a great job with his cleaning and he is happy as can be. We even asked that they not pull any teeth unless absolutely necessary. They gave us a call before they started surgery and let us know what are options were before doing an extraction. We ultimately decided to leave the tooth as is and wait to see how the tooth recovers over the next six months. We enjoyed the visit so much we are even going to bring our much neglected Chi Chi in a couple weeks to get her exam and teeth cleaning. Two big thumbs up and I hope they continue with the great customer service for many years to come!
In my opinion this is the best of the best for my companions! My bad experience elsewhere with a sick cat and spending a lot of money only to loose him sent me looking for great care for cats, especially! However, I will probably take my dogs when they need a checkup too now. Most of my cats have lived very long lives (four over 20) but that was in the state of Utah where the weather is better and less allergies and bugs! So I had to find someone here who knew cats! I have a rescue who has breathing difficulties on and off and the nebulizer formula I get here works well on him when needed. Recently I took an older cat in who was getting thinner with age to make sure she was okay and find out how to help her. I was told that I am doing a good job with her and she is just aging. It was recommended that I add pumpkin or sweet potato puree to her food and it is working already to up her nutrition! The extra touches of helpful pamphlets and a binder for info with her picture was a nice idea!Thank You for All You Do!
My cat broke BOTH of her back legs.Dr. McCoy and the team are doing everything they can to make the experience as ok as possible for me and my cat.My cat is currently staying there until her second surgery tuesday, I checked to see how my cat is taking being away from home and they have her on THE BEST drugs that are making the ride really easy on her.I am hoping they formulate a solution to help her poop before the surgery Tuesday!!! I’m sure not to many animals get double broken back legs often. They removed one leg in amputation and I was very satisfied with stitching and her overall shape after the surgery. If you are looking to amputate for any reason I am now confident in McCoy’s abilities.
I really loved the care of my animal! Very professional from start to finish. The only recommendation I can make is to maybe stop giving out gift bags full of plastic. More garden seeds instead :) Most of these items end up hurting our planet and the animals that live here. Also, please consider making your pet care binders, again more plastic, out of paper if you must print. All electronic would be best. Thank you for listening to this PSA :)
My fur child had a bout with severe diarrhea. Im not sure if it was something she ate but after her second midnight gift, I called the vet first thing in the morning. The staff was great about getting me an appointment immediately. We went in that morning and the vet put my girl on antibiotics and probiotics to balance her body. She is doing great. She has 2 more days of antibiotics and 3 additional days for the probiotics. She is playing with her brother and smiling again.
I have been taking our family pets to Star of Texas since they opened. The entire staff there is extremely compassionate and caring with their patients. Any time we have had a pet get ill, they have worked us right into the schedule without difficulty. When the time came to put our beloved cocker spaniel to sleep, they went above and beyond to help him in the most humane way possible, all while looking our for our emotional needs as well.Another time our younger cocker needed emergency surgery, and Dr. McCoy not only did an amazing job in saving her, but the office staff worked out a payment plan quickly so that finances did not prevent her from getting the surgery she needed. Dr. Samon and Dr. McCoy are both truly committed to making sure that our pets are well taken care of and go out of their way to answer all of our questions. I especially love the way that the staff always calls the day after a visit to follow up and make sure that our pets are doing ok, whether it is after routine vaccinations or after a sick baby visit.I would recommend Star of Texas for anyone who is looking for a complete vet practice. They are the best vets we have ever had!
Not impressed at all. We took our dog and based on doctor recommendations, did tested worth close to $500.Till no conclusion what is the issue, we were told that if all the tests that we were recommended were done , it will help i figuring out.Now Doctor is again suggesting more test, frustrated and feel that we were cheated :
I highly recommend this office. By the time I took my 20 year old cat here for a second opinion, there wasnt any treatment they could do. Everyone was so compassionate though, and helped me reach the decision I needed to reach without rushing me. The doctor also did a test that the other office didnt do or recommend, and it helped me actually see for myself how sick she was. I waited a month to pick up the items I had requested following that horrible day because I was having a hard time with it. When I opened the items today, there was a card that was signed by everyone in the office. I was not expecting that, and I thought it was incredibly thoughtful. When I get another pet some day, I will be bringing him/her here.
Weve been with Dr. Samon since before he established Star of Texas Veterinary Hospital, and despite a half-hour commute to see him, I wont consider another practice that may be closer or more convenient. Over many years of providing health and medical care for 3 cats and 5 dogs (our current brood comprising three dogs), he has always been dependable, available, approachable and well-versed in bedside manner and compassion. When we are there for anything at all—well checks or emergencies—we feel that he truly cares about every single one of our furbabies and gives them proper attention. He is highly skilled at helping me to manage my cats and dogs later years, which is tough.....how do you know when to treat an animal and when to euthanize? Dr. Samon seems to have wisdom in this area that others lack. I cannot speak highly enough of him and his wonderful staff.
We were patients of Dr. Samons when he was on Burnet Rd. and followed him to his current location, even though it is a 36 mile round trip for us, because we love him and trust him implicitly with our very beloved pups. The whole experience there is 100% positive---the staff is awesome----so very friendly and helpful in every way and I know our pups are getting the very best care that is available.
I took my male feral cat to be neutered. They may have used a technique for anesthesia other than the norm. He ended up with his heart stopped. Dr. Samon brought him back but he was so messed up. They just sent the cat home with us even though it was clear he was not stable and had Neuro deficits. At home a day later he had a seizure and died. They should have treated him further since they were responsible. They had the nerve to charge me for all the services. I would be very careful going there, seems great at first but shocking what can happen.
I requested they turn off the appt reminder notifications because with 2 pets going to the vet at the same time I was getting 2 emails, 2 calls to my home & 2 calls to my cell. I explained to the office staff that I put appts on a calendar & I dont need all the reminders - this request was met with an argumentative attitude & my request to turn off reminders was never granted. On my most recent visit, with my dogs, I requested a prescription be re-filled which I was told when it was prescribed - just let us know when you need a refill, but on this day I was told that it couldnt be refilled under law due to the pet not being touched by the vet in 1 year. She want available to touch my dog at this time while we were in the office since she was in surgery. I scheduled an appt to get my dogs prescription refilled & in the meantime received a certified letter stating that I had complained about the staff numerous times - which is not true, not once did I complain about a person but I did complain about the harassing reminder system & I did ask questions about processes. I was told to find another vet, so once again the prescription refill for my dog is delayed. The owner that wrote me the go somewhere else letter never even bothered to get the facts from me or my husband. If you go to this vet dont ask questions about their process to attempt to understand or else you will get the Go Somewhere Else Letter. I should mention I was very happy with the way my pets were treated & I was devastated when I received the Go Away Letter but there are plenty of other good Vets & Staff other places.
I would like to stress that I am very happy with my vet here in Houston...However, if I lived anywhere near the Austin area, I know exactly where I would go. Dr. McCoy is super friendly, all the people at the front desk were very nice, and my experience was just fantastic (especially considering what we went in for)
I have been taking my cat here for many years. Somewhere along the way they decided to take her to the back of the clinic away from me to do an exam after Id asked them not to as I knew she became severely distressed around people she did not know. When I called later to ask them to not do that again as had already been requested they apologized and said that it wouldnt happen again. The next time I brought the cat in they told me at check in that she was too aggressive and so they would have extra hands in the room. Each time we have returned they have become more and more prepared for her. Today they came in with HUGE gloves on and a towel. They held her down and covered her face and frankly terrified her. My cat is 12 years old and indoor only, she may hiss and groan but thats what cats do when they are angry and afraid. I tried to get them to let me hold her still as that is what had always worked in the past. They basically shoved me out of the way. The dr. we used to see there would scruff her at the back of the neck and never had a problem. Dont know what you all decided to do when she was in the back of your clinic, behind closed doors that one time. I dont know where or how they learned that this was a proper way to treat an animal but I am certainly never taking my cat there again.
The only reason we still have our 15 year old Lucy Boxer with us is Star of Texas! About a year and a half ago they told us to take her off the dog food we were giving her and put her on turkey and rice. Wow, what a huge difference that made. She recovered from a severe infection that almost killed her but thanks to the care she gets from Star of Texas she is still going (just like the energizer bunny). Its a 30 minute drive for us to take her to the vet but its worth it!

2022-01-21Im pretty sure my cats want to live here! Dr. Sabo, Toni, and Samantha were excellent host to me and my boys! Its hard to find a place that is as much in love with my cats as I am. Neither of them even realized they got vaccines because of the treats they were getting. And they spent the entire time exploring all the special places for cats in the room (cat tree, scratching post, hiding box). I so appreciate that they are a Fear Free Practice and Cat Friendly.

2022-03-24I love the homie feel of the location. The staff are friendly and they take great care and patience with my animals. They are also good about being upfront with costs and making sure you are okay with what you are paying for, which I really appreciate with 5 animals on a budget. I just wish they still had availability on Saturdays. Thank you for taking care of my Boo and making sure she had a smooth visit.

2022-02-12You guys were amazing today. We have received such awful service from other vets, and have been desperate to find one that works for Kenji. Everyone was so kind, and took their time with getting him comfortable and forming an actual relationship. We were beyond impressed with our first visit. Looking forward to seeing you all again. The attention to detail. Taking time to warm our dog up to the people and facility. Communicating a clear and concise plan to us for the future.

2022-02-11If I could give this place 20 stars I would! From the people scheduling appointments and following up to the vets (we see Dr McCoy she is amazing) to the vet techs (Holley is the best!!) all go above and beyond to help my two puppies. My pup Josie is very high needs and anxious and their happy and victory visits with Holley (and others including Tessa she is awesome) have really helped her to desensitize and have more positive experiences! If you have animals who need trauma informed care and a fear free environment this is your place..Thank you all so much!!!

2022-08-19Have taken my two orange boys here a few times (with our last one being an unexpected emergency visit - hes okay now thanks to the care from Star of Texas Vet).Everyone there is always so kind and accommodating and you can tell their fear-free care isnt just marketing and is something they stand by.They really take the time to understand whats happening and any concerns you may have and actually explain everything you could ever need to know in great detail. Also prices always seem to be reasonable!I honestly dont know if I could take my 2 boys anywhere else!

2022-08-04It was an great experience. They dont make us feel rushed or judged and help our anxious dog. The time spent making sure to not push my dog too much was helpful. I appreciated the tips for us and how accommodating everyone was. It deserves more than a 5 star rating

2022-02-19Its a very warm, inviting atmosphere. Even my cat, who is usually terrified outside of her home, relaxed at one point as a immediately took to Dr Sabo. Everyone is really nice. I especially liked Dr Sabo. I also like and appreciate their overall knowledge set compared to other vets Ive been to. Nutrition is a huge factor in me choosing a vet and they are very up on that knowledge. The friendly, caring manner of everyone there really made it a relaxing experience.

2022-08-22This vet calls itself the Fear Free vet. For my dog I can absolutely say that they do everything they can to treat him with his extreme fear of the doggy doctor. They are easy to communicate with either by phone or email. I always feel listened to by Dr. McCoy. Harley gives you a big paw up!!

2022-07-07Everybody at Star of Texas is super helpful and always seem to have the best interest of your pets and mind. They are always my number one choice when I need to schedule an appointment for my dog. I love how mindful they are of my dogs needs.
