Steinhausers in other cities:
I buy my cattle feed here and I absolutely love this place! The employees are extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and kind. Great selection, clean store, and wonderful customer service. I have to drive 30mins because they carry more options for cattle feed than any other store near me but its worth it.
Shopped here for years and come back even when not living in Alvin to buy my cats LLoyall Life Cat food which is $22 for 20lbs and way healthier than most of what is available to purchase at the grocery store and at half the cost. They have a great selection of products for both large animal farm animals and house pets as well as knowledgeable staff. My only negative I found was a rather unusual one that I dont believe is the normal but on that day all of the teenagers were running the store which would be fine if it werent for their constant bickering and paying more attention to burning or picking on the other ones that the customer didnt seem to even exist more than once with more than one. I did make mention of being kind is more important than we might always think but it is what we want to be able to have to remember when we look back on days that those.
Good selection, the feed is fresh, decent pricing and best of all, they have have plenty of friendly folks to help.Another feed store we had to wait 45 minutes for the one guy who could load our feed because he overslept (noon on Sunday), which was a pain because we were trying to leave town. Never happens at Steinhausers, we went there & they had 4 guys waiting to load us up.
I recently had an issue with a pallet of moldy cattle cubes and the management team at Steinhausers were quick to contact me to rectify my problem. The issue wasnt theirs to begin with, but they went out of their way to help make me whole. This goes beyond what was expected, and I greatly appreciate it!
I got moldy feed. Then was asked to bring it back for a refund. I didnt have the bag. Got a refund on their cheapest stuff. Was charged over $25 and got a refund for $12. What a waste of time.. It was Blue Star show feed. I was sold and got a refund on cheap sheep and goat feed. Others reviewed about moldy feed.
Strangely Facebook asked me to rate the place I work. So I of course think we are a great place. We love our customers and enjoy our jobs. As with any retail operation sometimes things go wrong but we try hard to minimize that and we work hard to make each customer have a pleasant experience. So comes see us and become part of our Feedstore family.
Had a great experience with several of the employees this time. Went in to pick a couple things up and also to ask them to support a local seminar hosting with the extension office. They were very supportive in fact they may actually be one of the presenters next year. Really good and very supportive of the community
Just went to get some feed and bedding for my ducklings and since it was my first time I was a bit confused as to where to start. Staff are very standoffish. I would say it’s just because they’re a bunch of kids but they’re older than me and don’t understand the concept of customer service. Whole visit was just awkward in general since I had no idea where anything was, and it seemed like they didn’t either.
Customer service could use some work. Walked in and was not asked if I needed help with anything. After looking and not being able to find what I needed, I asked for assistance at the front counter and the girl working didnt attempt to move a muscle to help me and said if it wasnt in the isle I had already been in then they didnt have anything.
They stock a large selection of horse feed, always have nice hay and carry a wide range of supplements. Steve, one of the managers, is an absolute treasure. Hes incredibly knowledgable, helpful and kind: if you have a question about any of the products they carry, seek him out. The cashiers are generally pleasant. Loaders are great - remember to tip them!
Their internet was not working. The young man at the counter had to write down all the purchases we made with credit card, the old fashion way. The young man never complained and was very cheerful. We will return there they carry a Lot of farm and ranch supplies that other stores dont carry.
This business is so wonderful! Great selection for all needs. They also graciously donating hundreds of dollars worth of merchandise for the silent auction at the Alumni Santa Fe Strong Benefit to help the victims of the tragic shooting at Santa Fe High School. We will forever be greatful for their kindness and I am now a repeat customer. :)
I am a business owner that owns two businesses. I have been using this place faithfully since before my daughter was born which is over 16 years. I have always been treated fairly and respectfully until the last 6 months or so. I run a 501(c)3 non profit which is completely different than AG exempt. Therefore all the business needs is my EIN number. They have young girls working the front which is normally not a problem as they have always been helpful and if there was an issue as far as not understanding about my federal tax exempt status they would go to the office and get assistance from the manager and all worked out. Well recently the girls up front do not bother to help if the program on the computer does not work for my tax exempt status. They just stand there telling me the computer wont let them do it. I mean really? The first time it happened two months ago I asked for the manager and she came right out and said oh I got it she is special tax exempt and she fixed it in the computer so I could pay and leave. Today it happened again and the girl at the register tells me I need to show my current card to be exempt. I told her I am not AG exempt and I do not get a card. I have a EIN number and it should be in the computer. She says ok and proceeds to still charge me tax so I asked for the manager again. This time the same manager comes out and this time tells me my tax exempt expired in 2019 in their computer and they needed my renewal card. Like really?! I do not get a renewal card for my federal tax exempt status. Their system should be able to verify it. So I have been purchasing supplies all year and all of a sudden they tell me in November that I need an updated status which running a 501(c)3 you do not get updated cards in the mail or whatever they are wanting. I told them that the person who originally took all my info including my EIN number never asked after they put it on file. The managers response was That is why he is no longer with us. What kind of professional response is that? And the kicker is I have seen the current manager working when he was there. So my non profit status was fine until she took over? Its scary because that shows the ignorance of someone that is not interested in educating themselves on how to accommodate folks with 501(c)3 status. My directors use Arcola Feed and Manvel Feed store and do not deal with this. These places have taken our companies EIN number and tax exempt paperwork one time and that was it. Same with Home Depot and Tractor Supply. Never have any of these places asked for a yearly renewal card whatever that means!I am truly sad that things have changed. People are not as friendly here and dont seem to care. All the helpful, friendly people seem to have slowly vanished.
I have never had a problem with this store. Everyone, from kids behind the cash register to the Loaders in the back have been friendly and helpful. Recently when I was out of town and one of my horses developed a bleeding cut, the Lady taking care of my kids not knowing where else to go while picking up feed asked what to do - she was led to some medication that she used to help the cut. No hesitation - just what can I help you with.
Im giving this place not a whole star because they are as rude as you can get I stopped by the location in Alvin at 6:20 p.m. yes I knew they were closed but I wanted to peep through the wired fence to see if they had something I wanted to buy I could not find on their website well yes they had it but before I could get a good look some person comes and yells at me asking me to to leave the property now Im a 62 year old woman Ive got broken elbows and a broken knee Im driving a little bitty car I dont know what she thought I was going to do. car dealerships let you walk around on their property. So if this is the only place on the face of the Earth to buy what Im looking for I am not going to buy it I am going to pass the word on Facebook at anywhere else I can and share how rude this business is.
Bad customer service very rude and confrontational and thats from the manager. He came storming out of office like he wanted to fight and argue. They didnt have the feed i needed and it wasnt a big deal but youd thought it was a huge issue by how the manager and the guy at loading dock behaved. Im not even sure why manager got involved. I told them just refund my card not a big deal. This place is awful. Stay away. They clearly pay for positive reviews. Anytime Ive had to come here staff is usually rude or ignore me at check out and other patrons have to tell them i was there first. ....maybe its a race issue.
3 different occasions I called to see if a certain thing was in stock. 3 different times I came and it wasnt there after I had driven from Kemah area to pick it up.Twice I was rung up at the counter and found out from the poor warehouse guys that you didnt have it so I had to go back in for a refund. Once I understand. Twice I think its getting old. Three times is too much..
This is the worst feed store every. Never keeps keeps feed or bedding in stock. Manager never on location just kids standing behind the counter. No one there that can answer any questions you might have. I suggest going to Gulf Coast Feed 4111 FM 2351 Friendswood, They always have feed in stock and the manager is always there to ready to help or answer any question.
Steinhausers has some rely awesome merchandise but sadly there are almost nothing has price tags on it. The merchandise out in front is not kept clean or tagged to let you know the price. The front section of the store was undergoing a reset and the area was almost bare. Would love to come back again...
Ive been shopping at this Steinhausers for years... Im done shopping there... its only kids faking that theyre working... absolutely NO CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS... no thank you... I waited in the back to be loaded... nobody around... until after I loaded... luckily there was a stack of my feed on dock... took my 2 left loading ticket... as soon as Im done here come 2 more kids... nothing said... I tell them your loading ticket is there... I loaded myself, thanks 😡😡😡😡😡 but on the other hand the one in Brookshire is awesome with knowledge, inventory & customer service, shop there instead!!

2022-05-07What a great place! Hardware, feed, yard and farm needs. Outdoor furniture and decor is really well built. If you need chickens, ducks, pheasants, they are also available. The staff is friendly and helpful!

2022-07-14Have only been twice now. Both times were to assist someone in picking up feed and materials for their horses. Having been a lifelong patron of the steinhausers store in Hempstead and can see differences between the two stores related to customer service experience. Staff at the Hempstead location are always cordial and genuinely ready to help. This particular location had several associates more concerned with carrying on with personal conversations rather than helping with customers.

2022-07-19The manager lady with glasses is EXTREMELY rude. She should not be a manager at all. She needs to learn some customer service. Won’t be shopping there again.

2021-02-17The staff at Steinhausers have really stepped up and helped a ton of people during this winter storm hitting the area. Despite most everywhere else being closed they have been open and refilling propane for people who would be without heat without it. Despite the cold wind the manager was out himself refilling every tank he could, and despite almost running out he made arrangements to have the supplier come and refill the tank near closing time so he could be sure everyone waiting for propane would get their propane. My wife and I would be without heat tonight in our camper if it wasnt for him and his staff.
