Ive never had any issues with this company until today . they did great customer service and were always extremely helpful and knowledgeable of the products . but today , I had to make a return on a wireless mic system that just didnt have the range that I thought it would, and it was over a $300 purchase. Even though their return policy is within 14 days with the receipt (which I had with me), and they were purchased 3 days ago, they refused to take the mics back. Now Im sitting here with a wireless system that I cant use and out $300 that I cant afford. With how bad the pandemic has hit the entertainment industry ,you would think they would be a little bit more sympathetic .PS:Only one out of the four mics was even used to be tested, and all four were ran through a UV cleaner , sterilized ,put back in theyre original ppackaging, and put back in the box..
Always a great experience with my local music store. Helpful and friendly staff, great pricing, and decent selection of things I need. They have actually increased their pedal effects selection greatly as of recent. I really like that because there arent a lot if local guitar shops that carry unique selections that Strait Music has begun to carry.
Pleasant and friendly every time Ive visited. Their guitar and amp stock is a bit limited compared to other music stores, but they usually are quick to offer to bring it up from their other store for free if its in stock there. We also rent-to-own our sons clarinet for school, and that is pretty pricey. Still, never had a bad experience so I give them a thumbs up.
Straight Music is a prime example of why local small businesses are so important. The passion and expertise they have is unmatched by any major music franchise in ATX. The staff genuinely care about what they do and the customer service is beyond amazing!! Thanks for fixing my uke :)
Never have what I need and dont know much about more specialized equipment or instruments. Great for beginners and kids in school bands. They gave excuses as to why they didnt have some of the most basic items in stock. Blamed it on the pandemic. Everyone else has what I needed in stock so please only give real excuses. Not going back.
Went to Strait Music for the first time yesterday with my 5 year old son to introduced him to instruments and we were treated so nicely at this place. My son is autistic and we wanted to see if he liked anything and the gentleman assisting us was so polite and patient. While my son was touching everything , the gentleman just said have fun. Mind you, dont touch signs are everywhere. It looks like my kid enjoyed the drums and we will mostly definitely be purchasing from Strait Music Company.
*FYI - OPEN FOR BUSINESS*You can guarantee a great experience here every day. Great selection of gear for all types of musicians, and the prices are really hard to beat. The staff are top notch and incredibly knowledgeable. No gimmicky sales, no pressure.I buy tons of gear here, and so should you!
Ive shopped here for many years. Each time I visit, Ive gotten great service and support. Their team is helpful, knowledgeable, both of their products but also the industry in general. The store is nicely laid out, for both traditional instruments like pianos, but a nice variety of guitars, basses, amps, and any needed accessories.
Super-easy pickup process. I needed some new bass & guitar strings, took less than a day to fulfill and they’re as affordable as you can find in Austin. They even gave a free sticker and guitar pick with the receipt, that’s definitely appreciated. It’s the same gauge I play with so it’ll be put to good use.Strait Music friggin rules.
I have a 1932 Kalamazoo acoustic guitar and a 1970 Dan Armstrong electric guitar. Took them both in, one at a time to have them reworked and get a general tune up. Their highly trained technicians did an absolute amazing job, all the while keeping me informed on their findings and progress. Very professional and personable. Also would like to add that their store employees have always been friendly, courteous and willing to help with any questions or interests.
I moved to Buchanan Dam from Midland a couple of years ago and needed to find an honest and reliable guitar store to have some work done. I Googled Guitar Center as well as Strait Music Company and a few others. Unfortunately, there are no guitar centers nearby so I had to drive 50 miles or so into the north Austin area. I guess thats the price I have to pay to live in such a beautiful area. Reviews were mixed for Guitar Center but were very good for Strait Music Company (except for a couple of folks whose reviews, to me, seem fraudulent). I also wanted a store where I could get warranty work on my Martin if needed. I chose Strait Music Company and am glad I did. I was cordially greeted at the door by two young ladies who directed me to the guitar area. I needed a pick-up and a strap button installed and Roland helped me and fixed me right up. He also helped me pick out a tuner that was just right for my musical talents. These folks are very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful and were able to fix me up with exactly what I needed. The turnaround time will only be a week so that is another positive for me. I look forward to making Strait Music Company my guitar store of choice.....and for my high recommendation.
I am revising my previous poor review from a bad first experience. After speaking with the owner (Clint), I gave the store a second chance. My later experience was much better and pleasant. Chris, the store manager was very helpful and both he and Clint ensured me they would address the issues I highlighted from my earlier visit. Glad to see such involvement by the store owners and trying to continuously improve and provide good customer experiences.
Always a good experience coming here. Always greeted at the door and am always asked if I need help. Jack in the guitar section is super friendly and very knowledgeable about guitars, and well, basically everything from what I could tell! ha! Store always looks great! Cant wait to come back! 10/10
In and out in under 5 minutes. I am unsure on all the items or services this location offered, my only reason for stopping in was to purchase guitar picks. I found what I was looking for quickly and was able to check out just as quickly. I did notice that there were many people browsing and playing different instruments when I was there. I would like to return when I have more time to spend browsing through the store.
Ive been a customer since I picked up my very first guitar from them and have never had a bad experience. They add new products frequently and are always happy to help you find exactly what youre looking for, even if it isnt with them. Great spot for new guitarists, theyll help you find the perfect fit.
I have bought an amp and a stratocaster recently and loved the experience of getting a quality instrument. Jack is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about talking about gear and guitars. All people at the store make the whole experience very comfortable for a guitar player. Will recommend people to this store over some big box retailers out there for sure!
Support your local music store! When I need a new guitar pedal these guys can order it. They do repairs, too. They brought my amp back to life for a reasonable price. Huge guitar selection and also a selection of small guitars and ukuleles and percussion. Its the only music store I need to visit.
Fantastic experience with the representatives in both the north (Jack) and south (Chris) locations! We were looking to upgrade our acoustic grand piano. They were informative and knowledgeable about their instruments. No high pressure sales pitches. Chris even stayed after closing on a Saturday to give us time to make a decision. The only difficult part was making a decision from such a wide selection. We are excited for our new piano to arrive. Strait even offered to deliver it on a Sunday!
So welcoming to anyone no matter their music experience. I received an instrument as a gift, and being novel to music I had no idea how to tune it, and they graciously helped me!! Not only that, they answered my questions, made sure I paid a good price, and gave encouragement. These are great people. They will have my future business.
Very knowledgeable staff, patient and helpful. Thank you Jack, Roland and everyone at the Norrh Austin location! Sure, one might save a couple of dollars ordering from online music instrument retailers, but youll forfeit the human experience. Besides, Strait will almost always negotiate prices. Stay local!
I have always loved Strait. This goes way back to when I worked on one of their more notable advertising campaigns in the 1980s. They know their stuff. I am cranky about they guitars and the work they do and the knowledge they have is crazy good. I am not sure Im ready to let anyone else work on my precious axes. Plus, I can always walk in full of stress and work my way around their store and experience playing a marvelous array of instruments. Peace out!!
Nice store with a large staff of people working there. Most of the staff was helpful, although I did have to ask for some help twice when there were three people standing behind the counter talking. The people there are knowledgeable and they have a wide variety of products.
Went in here the other day to pick up an amp. Interacted with 3 different staff members, each of them happy to be there, happy to help, and excited to talk about the products. I work boutique retail myself and I completely understand how intimidating these kinds of stores can be. Strait is not that at all!Theyve Gretsch, theyve got Gibson, theyve got Fender, they carry Earthquaker and Walrus Audio products, nearly everything you could want as a guitar player.Between the customer service and the product selection, theres no reason to shop online with Strait right around the corner.
My number one place in Austin for any musical instruments supplies, accessories, and repairs. You may also buy instruments here. However, the wait time for repairs can be kinda long during back to school season due to all the band kids. The place also lacks sheet music. Nevertheless, the staff is very friendly and understanding in the place is a very cozy area to be in.
Our daughter is starting 6th grade soon, and will be playing an instrument for the first time. She was torn between multiple instruments. We made our way down to Strait Music in the hopes that she could just hold a saxophone and see what it felt like, but our experience ended up being infinitely better than expected.Landon took us into the piano room and my daughter was able to hold and try out several instruments. Landon was extremely knowledgable and enthusiastic. We were there for more than an hour, but it was well worth it. When we packed up, our daughter knew she wanted to play the French Horn! Very cool. Many thanks to the folks at the store. What a great experience!
Im a private trumpet teacher in the Austin area and I would not recommend taking your trumpet or any band instrument to Strait. On multiple occasions they have told my students to stop using the valve oil that they currently had (Al Cass) and to buy new stuff from them (Yamaha synthetic). All of my professional trumpet player friends and I agree that what they are telling the kids is BS. They even refused to fix one of my students horns because they claimed the problem was the valve oil. Take your instruments to Better Than New Band Repair or Sam Bass, both in Round Rock.
The employees there were very helpful. They had to work on a Sunday when they are usually closed to be there for all the back to school craziness. They didnt have everything that I needed, but checked and doubled checked to make sure and then told me where to go to find it. Would go back for any of my daughters band needs.
Went to get my instrument (Fox 222 bassoon) cleaned and oiled. It was quick and cheap, but I dont think I would ever send a professional instrument (bassoon, at least) there for service unless it was an emergency - the desk staff seemed not knowledgeable about the instrument. Note that it seems some/most instrument repairs are done in the south Austin location, so factor in an extra day or two if they need to transport it.
Horrible for repairs, cleaning, and polishing. We picked up my trumpet today from an overall repair and cleaning with a pollishing. When I got home I noticed the pollishing was super smeared towards the bell, there were new dents, there was new brownish looking dirt on it that wouldnt come off, and on the bell rim it looked like it hadnt been even touched. The dont work as well as they did and I did try to oil them and that did not work. You charged a fortune for bad service.
The owner (Clint) immediately responded to my review on a repair situation and rectified the employees mistake. Also turned around the situation to get the instrument ready for my sons class as well as concert. I will be using this case study in many conference to come, as an example to the CXOs how customer experience can go beyond single unpleasant transaction and turning it into a advocacy.
Strait music offers a wide variety of products from band necessities to pianos to MIDI-controllers and add-ons. The sheet music selection is quite limited and the wind maintenance items are of average quality, but the electronics department offers fine products from reputable companies. Check out some of the M-Audio products if youre shopping for a good MIDI keyboard!
I come here with my dad from time to time and test their basses(new 06-12-2020) I have loved this place and plan on trying to get a job here the staff usually knows what their talking about and I enjoy it I have gotten a bass guitar case for an acoustic bass it works very very well would recommend to my friends and people new to an instrument
Thank you! My clarinet has never sounded so good until now. From the oboe specialist that fixed my clarinet, to the retired Pflugerville band director who gave me good advice. I did not squeak on my solo in pre UIL. Thank you so much.-Angela and Danette SchwartzP.s. the guitar and ukalele will come later, i am the luckiest kid ever due to the them. Tell guitar man that I will let him know next year but everything is wonderful. Havent had time for the guitar but will come soon.Thank you Straight Music

2022-04-09Austin was wonderful! Went in to buy some replacement guitar strings. He offered an option of him replacing them for me and let me watch as he walked me through each step so that I would know how to change them properly the next time. He even gave me some pointers on proper maintenance for my style of guitar. Ahhmazing service!! Will definitely be back in the future.

2022-05-07Went to get my daughter set up for 6th grade band. Called and talked to Bill about all the options for rental. He was extremely helpful and did not make me feel rushed. He took the time to explain all my options. Went in yesterday to actually rent the trombone and dealt with Bill again. I couldn’t be more pleased with my experience. Bill is absolutely amazing. He got us set up and ready to take on 6th grade band. Again, he was extremely patient and more than happy to make sure we walked out of there with everything we needed to start this new adventure. Customer for life.

2021-09-25Went in as a complete beginner with questions about a specific guitar that had been recommended to me by a few people. Got all my answers in 5mn and was also redirected to a different guitar that was easier to play with because of its size. Followed this advice, bought the bundle (which ends up being less expensive than my first choice because of what it came with) and Ive been having a blast for a week. Great experience!
