The place has gotten a major face lift and looks beautiful! They expanded the store and now have a bigger selection of gifts. Fantastic place to Christmas shop and great customer service. One of their employees, a young woman named Reese, helped me search for the perfect Christmas gifts and stocking stuffers. She was so helpful and had great ideas. Will be back soon.
We had a nice experience with all of the employees except one. The store is very nice with a nice variety of gifts and ideas. The floor personnel were very nice. The cashier was rude, had no customer service, and aewm d as if we were bothering her with our purchase. We brought up a $50 purse my girlfriend wanted and had told this woman she would be back for. We placed it on the counter. The cashier said, Is this all? We said yes. She stated the amount and I paid. She said, Here ya go? Th n pushed the purse toward us without a thank you come again, no bag for the item, and a frown. I asked for a bad. She said,oh, sure. Then proceeded to open a paper bag and could barely get it in. My girlfriend thank thank you, to which the cashier replied, Yeah ok. I wanted to take it back but my girlfriend wanted it so we kept it. That woman needs to be replaced. If anyone knows if she is the owner, let the rest of us know so we no longer go to that store. Heavy set woman about 58 b hind the counter with dirty blondish hair. Very rude and nasty. She had a scowl on her face while looking at us the whole time.
I took some time to visit Sunset & Co Hardware after a recommendation for Benjamin Moore paint and was happy to see a retailer of their products was actually opened on a Sunday. I live close by so it was nice to still be in the neighborhood. The associate at the paint counter was friendly and very helpful with deciding on a new paint color. After he left to ready our paint sample we began to browse around as it had been years since I had visited. Another associate was friendly and asked if we needed help but told her we were waiting for our paint. As we browsed near the chess sets the Cashier gave me the impression that felt like a stare down. I felt uncomfortable and decided we will just wait by the paint station for our sample. When I walked up to the checkout, there wasnt anyone else there aside from the earlier associate we encountered earlier. I found the cahier to be cold and rude beginning with a cold rude tone : I can help you ever here. Never said hello, how are you...nothing at all that was welcoming.. She finished the transaction and placed the receipt on the paint sample and just coldly said; There you go. She seemed angry or annoyed. I took our purchase and said Have nice day, which garnered no response. My friend then said: Thank You, and yet again...she didnt bother to say anything else. She really needs to brush up on her customer service skills or find something else to do. This was such a disappointment today and wont be returning back.
Excellent neighborhood store with quality items. You can see that every item in the store is chosen with care. The staff is always helpful, and you never feel lost; I appreciate being asked if I need help as I walk through the store. The addition to the store looks great as well; and it always looks nice before the holidays.Glad to see this type of store still exists in the current age of stale, impersonal, big box stores.
Great place with very helpful staff. I called in because I was having a difficult time replacing the florescent bulbs in my DynaTrap. Despite the fact that this item is not available, staff encouraged me to bring it in. Thank you to Michael & Edward who got it working.
Simply a great place to shop for gifts of all kinds & gourmet items not found elsewhere in town. Reminds me of the many hours I spent during college roaming around, buying & having High Tea at the old school Scriveners Hardware & Tea Room back in the 80s. Great, friendly & helpful customer service here at Sunset & Co. But, I do so miss Scriveners Hardware &Tea Room that was on 410 at Broadway for decades & the 78209 ladies & that gratis dessert cart the lady pushed around! - the main reason I suspect it was always busy at lunch).
Wonderful little hardware store! Whether you are looking for screws and washers, kitchen items, or a gift for a friend, chances are good you will find what you need. The store is well organized and tasteful with knowledgeable employees who will help you find what you need to complete your project.
During the so-called retail apocalypse its rare to find a genuine mom-and-pop store. What was most surprising is I feel like I would receive better customer service using the self-checkout at Home Depot. Hoping this was not because Im clearly not white and affluent like the majority of neighborhood/clientele, as suggested in another review. In these times and in the friendly state of Texas, I expect (and get) great customer service, but Gina wasnt feeling it today, I guess. Or maybe she shouldnt work in retail.
This hardware store is so pathetically racist that it is sad and unfortunate for the great city we live in. My wife of 15 years received the worst treatment she has ever encountered in a retail establishment. Needless to say we will take our business, decency, and humanity elsewhere. Clearly this business is catering to one clientele and one clientele only.
I was appalled when my mom told me this this morning.my mother brought some screens to the hardware side to be replicated frame and all. There was a miscommunication and they were rre screened instead.when told if they could replicate the entire frame and screen. Brian at hardware acted like it was a chore even though we would be paying extra for it.it’s your job buddy....when it came time to install them they were missing a spring that was needed. came back a second time to inquire about the said springs and the man started yelling at my mother telling her not to ever bring business to the store again. my mother is a very polite woman and does not deserve to be treated this way. it saddens me to think your local store whom we’ve been shopping for since i was a small kid could treat anyone this way. Terrible, rude, and impatient customer service. I used to believe in buying local... I will take my business somewhere else.Atte: David Doyle (owner) please reconsider who you have interacting with your customers.
Gave this store a third chance, however as some others on the reviews have stated. It seems no matter what worker I try to get to help me, this store seems to not want to even look much less speak with someone that is Hispanic. I really thought it could have been a fluke, but 3 times? It really hurts and makes me feel disgusting just walking in, like Im not wanted there

2022-02-17This store has the cutest gifts for any occasion, as well as all your basic hardware needs. It may seem a bit strange to buy pjs at a hardware store, but they have them, and they are adorable! They also have the sweetest baby gifts, seasonal items, all things bbq grills, paint, and almost anything you can think of. If you havent stopped in, you should, even if only to appreciate the sheer breadth of quality products in one reasonably sized store.

2019-08-18Beautiful store. The establishment is extremely clean. They have a huge variety of items. They often have items that big chain stores do not which makes them unique and also my go to hardware store. The staff is very friendly and knowledgable. If you havent been, it doesnt disappoint. I definitely be back and thanks for all your hard work.

2021-12-08My dog broke out the front window of my home Dec 5th. I knew Sunset and Co would be slammed but I went anyway to see if they could cut me a new custom size window pane. The nice folks at Sunset cut the glass, while I waited, fixed me up with the glaze points to hold it in place and a tube of window glaze to seal it. Saved the day! Thank you so much David Doyle and Co!

2020-08-10I try to support local business whenever I can. I love this place for anything you need such as keys made, candles, tools, paint. Anything you can imagine is likely here. They support our community so I support them.

2021-05-22My favorite one stop shop! Always new merchandise beautifully displayed, fun events and the nicest and most helpful staff. Michael is my honey do and can fix anything from an old lemonade jug my mom left me to a vintage fan of my fathers. I love that they carry Benjamin Moore paint, so easy for my decorative painting company. One of the best stores in San Antonio (and beyond)

2021-04-20I found exactly what I needed. I was looking for that small part to finish a project and the Big Box home stores didnt think it was important enough to stock it. I needed a Tee Nut and adjustable screw in feet to put on the bottom of bare wood bench legs. The bench in going on the patio and if water soaked up into the legs, it would quickly ruin the bench.Thank goodness the little and overlooked neighborhood Hardware Stores did! We need stores like these to be there when we need them for the assortment of little necessities they carry. Thanks B for a good experience.

2021-04-10I’ve come into this store a couple of times, and they really need to train some of their employees to have better customer service. Crystal, is so incredibly rude. One of her co-worker ( I didn’t get the young ladies name) was trying to help an elderly woman take some things out to her car and Crystal yelled at her to not help her and to call someone else. The young lady even told her the elderly woman’s car was right in front you could clearly see it from the cashier station and Crystal proceeded to tell her not to help her which obviously made the elderly woman uncomfortable and she said it was okay then struggled to carry the items and put them in her car. I came back today only because I love their candles and I witnessed another incident with a male worker (who i assume is the manager?) loudly and obviously getting after his female co-worker IN THE FRONT OF THE STORE. SO UNPROFESSIONAL! Everyone who walked by or even entered the store could hear him telling her why she was in the wrong. I couldn’t believe it that is NOT how you treat your workers. Crystal and this young man need to be fired or completely re-trained. I will not be coming back, no matter how much I love the candles.
