If I could give 0 stars, I would. I booked a non-smoking 2 queen room for 1 night. When I checked in I was told that my room would be a smoking, 2 queen room. I told them that I booked non-smoking. He checked the booking and saw that it was non-smoking.The room smelled horrible and since there was an ash tray sitting on the restroom counter I figured I was put in a smoking room. There were roaches crawling around the room and dead roaches under the sink in the restroom. I don’t think the actual bathroom had been cleaned. There was something brown rubbed on the wall and door frame of the bathroom. We immediately checked out of the hotel.I was first offered a different room to which I said absolutely not. I was offered a refund but after checking my account, I was charged a second time. I did finally get all of the money back 4 days later. Even if this was the last hotel in town with a room available I would not book here.
Room and bathroom both clean, however, one of the bedside lamps was non functional and shade was stained badly. The faucet for the shower control was missing screw and would fall off easily. They attempted to charge for the room safe UP FRONT upon check in. I advised we would not be using it and the clerk rather grudgingly refunded the charge. Was told my credit card had been declined, however, I used it numerous other places with no problem. This card has been on file with our reward program for a long time with no issue. Not sure what that was about. Due to COVID-19, no breakfast or lobby available, which is understandable, but it would be nice for a price adjustment since couldnt eat anything except a packaged pastry left on a shelf at the check in foyer.
Seems under construction....mattresses and box springs stacked up against an outside wall. Painting and stucco going on. Swimming pool filled in with cement.Bed was very comfortable and it was quiet.Dont go to Athens on a Sunday evening expecting to find some place for dinner....either closed on Sundays or closing at 7pm. Know this is not the fault of Super 8 but just info you might need.No breakfast due to Covid-19
They still advertise having a pool which is filled with concrete. In my room there was black mold growing on the ceiling. Like they keep painting over it. The tub drain was clogged and had to fix it myself just to take a shower. Just walking bare foot on the carpet in the room your feet would turn black. At least the bed was ok and the TV worked.
Pros: clean, recently remodeled bathroom, decent breakfast, and fairly quiet. Friendly staff made check-in a breeze.Cons: some parts of the remodel feel unfinished - the shower head was loose, and so were several electric plugs. There were not many plugs to begin with, and the ones that were there were either almost inaccessible behind furniture or inconveniently placed (four in the bathroom, but none near the nightstands). The train goes by at night and blows its horn.Overall: easy choice to spend a couple nights if you can overlook some minor inconveniences.
This hotel is a joke. The room is dirty, you can tell they have not cleaned that carpet in a long time. The towels are so thin and very cheap. The bathroom door did not close. The WiFi never worked and when I called the office to ask for help, they hung up on me. The office smelled really bad and could use some deep cleaning and organizing. The staff is very unprofessional. This hotel needs a major make over or it should be turned down. I kept seeing reviews that the hotel had a make over, yeah right!
Older motel type of property. Room was an odd mix of nice fixtures but old walls and ceiling that needed complete reworking.Staff was nice and the room was clean.Wifi was useless, with very low signal strength.Minus a star for a terrible breakfast. Very few choices and almost nothing hot.For a few bucks more, Id probably at the Holiday Inn on the other side of town next time.
Apon arriving the front staff was super nice and helpful. Our room was suppose to be smoking free but that wasnt the case. Room had a musky smell to it and multiply cigarette burns on the blankets. The sheets did smell clean and no sight of bugs around. Numerous holes in the wall that were patched up badly, and parts of the ceiling was falling off.
I stay at Super 8 about three to four times a year. Always a pleasant stay at a reasonable price. Clean rooms. Dont wait till last minute to book a room if you are staying here during the first weekend of the month as the rooms fill up quickly. The staff is respectful and the owner is responsible; I left my glasses behind and the owner found and shipped the glasses back to me - my mistake so I paid for the shipping. As long as they have a room for me, I will continue going back to this place.
So...if I had actually read the reviews before booking, I would have never booked! However, I booked at 10pm on the road and arrived at 11:45pm, we needed a bed for the night. I am what they call picky...I dont like hair in the bath or toilet or sink. I like clean floors and a medium soft bed. I love the smell of bleach. So, we walk into a decent foryer. Checkin was good and easy. They required a credit card to book but, no money was needed to hold for a damage deposit. The room was number 117 down stairs. The room was clean carpet looked clean bath was clean. Granite on countertops and in shower. Room was somewhat freshly painted. All was quiet. Parking was well lit. Cameras everywhere. My husband did not sleep at all after reading 2 reviews of people walking around outside and hearing gunshots. We heard nothing like that and no one was out and about. Parking was well lit so we could see everything. The design of the hotel was good, like a u shape. You could see the whole parking lot. Breakfast was great in my opinion...waffles yogurt boiled eggs fruit cups honey bun toast Danishes OJ Apple juice coffee. Staff was super friendly helpful and accommodating. Overall for the price not a bad deal at all!
Im giving them 5 stars. First night here some guys in the parking lot detailing his car with the stereo blasting. The manager came out and told the guy to get his stuff and get off the property. The staff here are very nice. The a/c will freeze you out ! Hot coffee and honey buns with cereal and milk for breakfast !!!! Staying here 5 weeks for a job and glad we picked this place !!!!!!Update ! One month later Im still here. My overall rating is still a 5 ! The mgt and staff have done an outstanding job. I want to thank you all for doing a great job.
First thing when we walked in the room smelled and looked very clean. Air conditioner works awesome. Its nothing fancy but itll do the job if you just need a place to sleep and shower without spending too much money. It didnt seem sketchy at all, which is something we try to avoid when booking lower end motels. Much nicer than expected.
I called from the road fairly late and made a reservation. The night manager, a very nice older lady, checked us in and chatted with us. The room was clean, it smelled clean. Everything you hope for in a motel you find late at night when you are on the road. A comfortable place that makes you feel safe and welcome,Ive never had a bad stay at a Super-8.
An older hotel. But a clean room the only thing was the. Door to. The bathroom got. Stuck and my husband had to push the door to get out had crickets friday night at 4am on Saturday at 4am again didnt sleep !!! Bring extra pillow they give u a flat one. Dont think we will stay here again
We booked the room a month in advance. When we arrived the pool is out of order, with no advance notice. No compensation offered. We get to the room and THE BEDS WERENT MADE & the room HAD NOT BEEN CLEANED. There were also 4 flies and a live bug on the mattress. The manager refused to comp the room or offer any discount. We were forced to ask for a refund and pay more for a last minute reservation elsewhere. He refused to offer us another room either.
The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, the rooms were well stocked and very clean, the girl at the front desk was absolutely exceptional while we struggled with payment and some online issues that had nothing to do with this Super 8. Food and stores nearby, literally within walking distance. Not very crowded, well lit at night, reasonably nice part of town. Our shower even had several different modes, a feature we were not expecting, including misting and intense massaging sprays. We were also surprised to find a shower cap provided. The toilet paper was also fancifully folded into a triangle, and when I asked for an extra towel, I was given literally a massive stack of towels, rags, cloths, and fresh soap. The bed was comfortable and there was plenty of space around the room, including several drawers. The tv doesnt have too many channels if youre used to big name companies such as Dish or Direct, but it has a nice variety and we easily found something to watch every night. Besides that, theres free WiFi that works great here. The air conditioner/heater works almost too well. My boyfriend and I both sleep in the cold, and we made the mistake of going to bed with the AC on high and woke up to a room that was almost below freezing, but within 5 minutes of flipping it to heat, it was perfect and we just turned the unit off. Various adjustments can be made to the unit to find ideal temperatures. Ice machines work amazingly, which is an issue I have at a lot of other hotels actually. The fridge and microwave also both worked great. While we didnt wake up soon enough to enjoy our free breakfast, the area looked promising, with a make-it-yourself waffle area for Texas shaped waffles. My only real complaints are that the coffee machine is a pain and can only brew one cup safely at a time, unless you want a mess, and the wall outlets werent placed close enough to the bed to plug your devices in and lay them on your nightstand. Oh, and the pool was closed, which was a bummer, but these things happen almost everywhere unless you want to pay a looot of money. For the price, this is a fantastic little hotel and unless my financial situation suddenly becomes ten times better, I will definitely be staying here whenever I come to Athens in the future! The only other hotels in town worthwhile are the Best Western and Holiday Inn, and both of those are very costly and very crowded. Four stars solidly for the pool being closed, coffee machine troubles, and wall outlets. Aaand a little bit for some of the cleaning staff staring at a us, but gay couples are sort of used to that. I definitely recommend this hotel!!!!!
$80/nite. Clean room with a safe, nice size tv, FREE ice, good working COLD A.C., mini fridge and microwave. This place was recommended to us by the locals at Athens Brewing Company. Glad we stayed here. We will return. Also - bought a giant size Butterfinger candy bar when I checked in for $1.00. Most hotels charge about $4 for the same thing.
1. Did not honor previous agreement with church charity2. Manager refused to speak directly to church representative.3. Manager spoke through a non-employeeA much better choice for us is the Americas Best inn & Suites. 716 E. Tyler, Athens Tx. Beautiful lobby, helpful & intelligent desk clerks.
Found roaches and fleas...asked agent to switch to another room they said yes then talks to manager then comes back and says they are full...so i then asked if they could spray for roaches and fleas and i was told NO...says they couldnt do it...they could of should of but didnt want to do anything...bad service...im guessing with other reviews that they have a problem with roaches in the past and present...do something about it...

2022-03-10Positive: The room was very clean!! Negative: We had no volume on the tv the entire stay. Everyday we had to get our key reset. Also, this hotel was still full on Covid. Only the late arrival Window was used, Grab n Go breakfast etc. Lastly, the toilet seat was so loose, we had to fix it.

2022-05-18Outside kinda plain looking but clean, dont let that fool you. Im a healthcare worker and stayed at Holiday inn a few nights (unhappily) so i came and looked at these rooms. Wow nice no old smelly carpet they have replaced floors with wood laminate very nice. New mattresse on the beds. The owner super nice, i am in town 13 weeks at a time for work and the move to super 8 was a great decision. Keep in mind this hotel has been around a while but i am very comfy feel safe and have had no problems here. Room clean i have seen no bugs of any kind in my room and staff has been great. I have to be honest and say this hotel in my opinion is much better than holiday inn or best western here in athens. I also must add the two hotels mentioned above give absolutely NO discounts for healthcare workers but the owner of super 8 told me without me even asking that they do when he realized im in healthcare. Kudos and thank you super 8.
