Worth visiting this free attraction on Texas state history. Its admission-free and air-conditioned and when the Austin heat hits, its a nice escape. The center offers information on the State Capitol as well exhibits on Texas history. The second floor has computers set-up where you can find pretty cool information about Texas. It complements the State Capitol building very well and is worth the time it takes to visit - Id say around 45 minutes to an hour.
My 8 year old daughter and I had a very enjoyable time visiting the Texas Capitol Visitors Center. The lady at the help desk was very informative, friendly and had excellent tips and advice for our time in the visitors center and the Capitol itself. We learned so much information about the Capitol. There is a kids page they can fill information out as they go along at the help desk with crayons. Upstairs there is a 2 sided, more detailed fill out sheet that my daughter and I used. We spent an hour and 1 half here easily. Right now in one of the rooms there is a Lego replica of the Capitol building. Its amazing!
Such a beautiful building with and incredible friendly staff. The guy at the front desk have us tons of information of other historical destinations around the area to visit. The map he handled us was so useful. The lady upstairs on the second floor helped me to dress up my mother to take some cute pictures of her and was so kind to is and the children who were learning about the display. Definitely one of the highlights of our trip to Austin.
Great stop! They had lots of brochures for all of Texas and Austin and lots of history on the capitol. It is a great place to start your tour of the grounds. We parked in the capitol visitor parking garage. It was large and close by. A good choice. The day we went it was free, so I have not idea what they normally charge.
Not the most exciting thing youll do in Austin, but its free, interesting, and air conditioned, so why not?! Check out the gift shop and tiny O Henry museum (a single room, but still well done) downstairs, and go upstairs for an interactive kids area and some more information about how white people settled in Texas.
This little building is actually older than the State Capitol building! The admission-free and air-conditioned center offers information on the State Capitol as well exhibits on Texan history. On the second floor there are numerous computers where you can find out interesting Texan facts (e.g. What is the state snack of Texas?). It is a nice place that complements the State Capitol building.
Be sure to visit. Maybe its a better experience than the House of Parliament building.Get free self-guided materials in Korean and foreign languages.great staff. The souvenir shop is lovely. If you need a photo zone, this is the place. An elevator is available. The toilet is in the basement.

2022-06-12The city of Austin has always been a great place to visit and if you are looking for a cool history lesson, make sure you stop be the capital building. There is alot to learn here and soak up. There are really cool exhibits in the visitor center and alot of learning involved there too. This is a great place to have field trips and bring the kids to learn some Texas history.

2022-06-27To be clear : my review is for the VISITORS CENTER ONLY. Many of these reviews are including the Capitol building itself. I am not. That tour and building is different. I had high hopes for the visitors center but it felt very lacking to me. The building is enormous and they could have done a lot more with it IMO. It feels ...lackluster and disjointed. None of the staff was friendly at all, especially not in the gift shop. It was okay but we are history buffs and werent super impressed although we expected to be. I guess at least its free lol.

2022-03-10Pretty cool informational center on Austin’s natural landscape and history. Love that they show case the states diverse ecological features.Unfortunately they do a poor job in integrating the perspectives and experiences of people of color (including those of African or indigenous heritage). Would like to see more of this for my next visit.

2018-07-01Wonderful stop for a quick visit, (but if youre in a hurry, then skip it). Informative & little museum on the 2nd floor provides the history of the State Capitol building. A neat little gift shop, and travel center with brochures for all of Texas. (Restrooms too.) No food or drink allowed. Great place to cool down too!

2018-11-04It was a really nice visitors center. Everyone there was nice and friendly. But like most things in the u.s. they dont have much in the way of American made things. Even the things with the Texas flag were made in China. It would be nice if they would sell nothing as opposed to that kind of stuff. And in a state this big you would think they could find some locally sourced things.
