We were beyond excited to come try the 72 oz steak.... Would not recommend at all! The idea of ordering a 72oz steak is cool but the flavor is horrible. If you do not do the challenge you will pay $216 for the steak and it comes with 8 sides. Nothing was good. Zero flavor. An absolute waste of $300+. Service was not good either. Our entire family was disappointed as we did travel 6hrs to try the food.
This places is fantastic, I loved it! Is everything they told me and more. is like if the food was design by Disney and the places decorated by Universal (I know some people will understand it)The food is just wonderful, everything I try was delicious, the steak perfectly cook, the sides were a delight, but let me tell you about those mushrooms, they had to be made by angels cause they were perfection. The service, the host was alright but my waitress was so great and helpful. Now the decorations, wow it was over the top, it was just hilarious, sometimes even makes me blush a little. Well I guess is Texas right. If you are in Amarillo you have to go there, and you are a foreigner visiting the US, this will be an experience for you, don’t miss it.Ps; I can’t wait to comeback.
Been too long since we were there! They cook the steaks out where you can see and the place smells so good. We had ribeyes that were cooked to perfection. We didnt nor did anyone while we were there, attempt the free 72 oz steak. The gift shop has a lot of cool stuff including a book with all the winners in it. Some interesting winners in there! They also have a motel in case you need a place to hang your hat for the night. Plenty of parking.
I really enjoyed the food here! The ribs were so tender! The steak was a nice size so it lasted a couple of days. They have some great ranch dressing too! Its a must-stop when driving into Texas from New Mexico. There was table side music and a few interactive games and a hallway of creepy pics that I giggled at on my way to the restroom. Try them out!
Its a must visit. The whole package is worth the trip. The food is secondary to the experience. It helps the food is good. Have the steak of your choice and the sides. Its why you come here. I like the strip and its only 16 oz. Recommend the rib sampler as an appetizer. The desserts are also big.
This was a fantastic stop. Great food, interesting scenery, fun atmosphere. Highly recommend the cakes. I will add that if you’re in a hurry you should probably visit another time…it gets quite busy sometimes and the wait times can be long. I will certainly return for the steak!!
Big in EVERY way- so much fun. Stop and enjoy. Even if you’re not ready to eat then stop in the gift shop. Many photo opts. And the nostalgia creates a great atmosphere for all ages.Lunch was delicious- ribeye steak and filet cut were very flavorful and tender.Rolls were yummy! Hot rolls fresh made with butter.😋Yes - we were able to enjoy in the fun by watching two people take on the challenge of 72 oz steak eating in an hour.Have fun and stop 🛑 in!You’ll be glad you did 🙃
This place was so entertaining. It really is a good roadside attraction. The food was really good- I had the best baked potato ever! The steak was really good and flavorful- not the best steak Ive ever had, but it was up there. Its definitely worth the stop- whether steak is your thing or not.
Steaks were juicy and flavorful. Wonderful rolls, salad and sides. My son Ryan turned 16 Wednesday and we drove all the way to the Big Texan in Amarillo TX for him to try and eat 72 oz steak plus potato and salad. He nearly ate it all in the time period of 60 minutes. He said Maybe next year.Lots of fun here for the whole family. If we lived closer we would come more often. Maybe next year we will see you again. My daughter Nicole turned 18 and she got a free birthday steak dinner that we were not aware of.We had great servers, grilles, and people who worked with us. This was Lots of Fun!
This was so much fun. It’s a glorious tourist trap, with no actual trap. In a year of traveling the state of Texas, this is the most Texas-y Texan place in Texas. The kids had great meals, including a snack steak for them. Plus, in the hour we were there, someone completed the whole 72 oz challenge!3/4 kids tried the Rocky Mountain oysters and all three liked them.
The Big Texan is definitely the place to eat if traveling through Amarillo. I wanted to get the rib rack, but they were out, and Im told they sell out everyday. So I opted to get chicken fried chicken with okra and mash potatoes. It was excellent. I also got half portion of the fried mushrooms, which was plenty. Overall a great experience. There was a slight wait to get seated. The 72 oz steak dinner challenge is something to try in the future.
I have had a lot of steaks over the years at a lot of restaurants. I’ve been to dives, and I’ve been to high end steakhouses as well. Ruth’s Chris is in the middle of my quality list. I would take the steak I got from The Big Texan today over Ruths Chris every day of the week. The quality and flavour of the steak was 10x better. Very juicy. Cooked perfectly. Tasted fantastic. A nice crust on the outside. Atmosphere was great. Service was friendly. I really don’t have anything bad to say about this place.Perhaps the only downfall is that it is a busy place. Rightfully so, but if you’re looking for a dimly lit, quiet upscale setting this isn’t your place.
Fun experience. Level 10 Americana. The chicken fried steak was pretty good in that way that they only know how to cook in North Texas / Oklahoma/ Southern Kansas. Each of the side dishes i tried were kinda lackluster, BUT they do make everything from scratch. No frozen stuff from the SISCO truck here. Thats worth a lot!The craft beer was decent but not amazing. I recommend the tripple.Staff were friendly.
Go Big or go hungry! I give this place 5 stars! We thought it might be a tourist trap with bad food. We were pleasantly surprised the service from our server ( Nina) was excellent she was so friendly and fast! The restaurant was huge we were there for lunch, but it didnt feel crowded. We both had the ribeye steak with all the trimmingsIt was delicious cooked just as I ordered it!The rolls were warm & tasty. The dessert looked amazingly good but we had to get a slice to go. This is a very casual dining experience, great for families or for hearty appetites, the portions are very generous. There were no mask requirements, however, the wait staff did wear masks. They also had fudge, ice cream and a nice gift shop. You could spend a half a day here!We will definitely return when were traveling through Amarillo, TX.
Stopping here has become tradition for us. Good food and fun games inside. Whenever we pass through Amarillo, this has always been a great place to have a nice meal with the family. Kids meals typically run $8 and adult meals range from $13 and up. Depending of course on if you order steak and what cut. It’s an open and friendly atmosphere. There are plenty of decoration inside to sit down and look at or talk about while eating. There are shooting games and animated machines inside, along with a gift shop. Plenty of cool stuff to take pictures with too. We have a collection of photos in front of the huge bear.Overall, it’s a really cool place to stop.
Unique experience well worth a stop on a long distance trip from Phoenix to Ohio and back. Very touristy and fun. The Caesar salad was generously dressed, baked sweet potato perfectly done and served with butter and brown sugar, but most importantly, the prime rib, including the jus and horseradish sauce were out of this world! I will definitely come here again!
Stopped in on a road trip as it was recommended by a couple of people we know. The restaurant its self was really cool. Lots of taxidermy. The staff was friendly and we were seated and served pretty quickly. Now to the food. We had prime rib and T-bone. Neither were very impressive for both the flavor or tenderness. For the price it should have been much better. Texas roadhouse would have been a much better choice for the food. Still glad I stopped for the experience but I wouldnt recommend it to a friend.
Fresh buns A HIT🔥🔥🔥 Amazing burger with delicious fries.! No Mayo was a downer for me but I had packets in my truck.! To go order was done in 20 minutes and they even have a bar of sweet treat.!! Look at the size of that cake.!! Texas BIGGGG💪 Fire fire fire 🔥….. probably will be a wait if you are dining in but to go was quick.! Thank y’all so much.! We will stop by again for sure.!!STOPPED IN TO EAT::: AMAZING service and food! They will be a wait, even with 2 people but they have the QR code to get you on the waiting list.! Said 15 minute wait , ended up being almost 10 minutes!! We were happy about that.! Guy singing was awesome and really contributed to the atmosphere! Very very packed.! Food was cooked perfectly.! Salads were awesome.! Pricey but under current administration, that SHOULD be expected.!!
I have been to The Big Texan several times throughout the years and I have always enjoyed it. Is it a bit touristy, yes, but the food has always been excellent. The steak was cooked exactly how I asked for it and the sides were just as good. If you go away hungry then it is your own fault. If you want to get into the spirit of being there have the guitar picker and fiddle player come by your table and play you a good Waylon Jennings tune.
Probably the best steak I have ever had! The wait for a table and food was long, but we were expecting that. There is so much to look at in the restaurant along with a shop, so its very entertaining. The only criticism is that the texas fries were really bad, they tasted old and stale. But the other sides were great. Special mention to the bread basket, omg, so fresh and warm! Great place to stop if passing by!
The Big Texan is a great stop for any road trip when passing through Amarillo. There was a game shooting gallery, a cool bar area separate from the restaurant, and souvenir shop.If you are seeking delicious barbecue, I would look elsewhere in Amarillo. The food itself was pretty terrible. I got the barbecue combo, and the brisket and ribs were so dry and tough. It was pretty inedible to me, and this was the first time in a long time I could not finish a meal. The dinner rolls tho are sooooo good! I could’ve filled up on just a bunch of those and been way more content. If I could do it again, I’d stop at the Big Texan for a tasting flight of beers (10 for $15!), walk around and see what needs to be seen, then head over to another BBQ spot in Amarillo for better food. If you aren’t doing the 72 oz steak challenge, then there really isn’t a point to eat the food here imo.
Awesome atmosphere. Great service. KILLER food. As Texas as it gets when you walk in and are greeted by staff and the warm decor. The food is awesome! Christian was my waitress and was absolutely outstanding. Kind, attentive, and made sure I wanted for nothing. I started with Mountain Oysters, first time for me. They were delicious! Tender, with the perfect breading to give a nice crunch. I then had the double cut filet as my entree. As you can guess, the steak was tender, juicy, perfectly seared and cooked to perfection. Could not eat it fast enough. The sleeper for me was the green chile creamed corn. Wow what flavors all packed in to a little side dish. Highly recommend!
Service isn’t the greatest. The waitress told me about the tip she want before we even order. As a waitress myself I would never do that so I find out a little odd is it because our raise does she assume that we’re not going to tip good. I ask for medium rare and my was almost most well done all of our steaks are overcooked the flavor is good it’s just Overcooked so if you are expecting this to be extremely good and then not meet your expectation
Absolutely the worst experience and the place was not busy. The waitress dropped the ball on my order, they couldnt find it, the manager got miffed at me because I complained about not getting my meal after waiting 30 minutes, he couldnt understand why I was perturbed. The manager got all defensive, making me out to be the bad guy, I mean how would you feel if they lost your order? When I asked for a lid for my drink he threw it on the table. How immature! I was really looking forward to experiencing this place after all the good things I heard about it. But the manager and waitress totally killed it. Im a truck driver with limited time and will never recommend this place to any of my driver friends.Let me know when you have new management I might stop in again.
The Big Texan never disappoints! We stopped by to buy a set of longhorns and grab a late lunch. It was an hour wait so opted for takeout. We got a really nice sized bacon cheeseburger, fried okra and a steak salad. Everything was fresh and delicious and only took about 15 minutes! Now we are back on the road with longhorns sticking out both sides of the truck, PERFECT!
The place was packed when we arrived at 730pm on a Thursday. Waited an hour to be seated which was ok because they had a gift shop to browse, shooting gallery to play for $3. Also enjoyed a drink while we waited. I ordered the ribs. They were on the dry side and had to use a knife to get the meat off the bone. Wasnt crazy about the seasoning on them but once dipped in the BBQ sauce they were fairly tasty. Hubby got the steak and he was pleased with his. Service was ok, had to repeat requests a couple of times. There was 3 people there who did the challenge while we were there. One made it and 2 didnt. I wouldnt have come even close to finishing a 72oz steak, 3 shrimp, baked potato, salad and a dinner roll within 1 hour. Makes my stomach hurt just thinking about it!
My servers were on point. Had lunch & supper here, ribeye was excellent along with sides of potatoe salad that I loved with a hint of wonderful mustard and seasoned navy beans. While eating lunch I booked a room at the hotel the family operates. It was very clean and well taken care of.
Good food, fun atmosphere. Noisy inside so kind of hard to share in discussions. T-bone was great, mushrooms were amazing. Prime rib was good but a bit fatty. They were a little skimpy on their side dishes of coleslaw, beans, and the size of their sweet potatoes. We didnt know sweet potatoes grew that small! I had the tomato slices and red onions but would get something different if we ate there again. Lots of yummy deserts and a huge gift shop.
Service was great (her name was Berkley) food was delicious, no offense but the beer I got wasnt to write home about, but thats just preference, not quality. I was very happy to treat myself to a victory steak and a cold beer after the day I had today. I still dont know how I ate that whole thing in like 12 mins 😅 God bless you all and thanks for being open on new years day
Great place to eat. Awesome environment and the prime rib was great also. We will try to make this a stop every year on our way through texas..Was nice eating at a place with no masks you can actually communicate with your waitress easily. They also had a few very cute waitresses and a awesome gift shop
We had a great time here. The place was super busy, but our wait wasnt to long. The wait staff was great and did a great job answering all our questions about the menu. Highly recommend paying them a visit. Our food was outstanding. Well be visiting again when were in the area.
Service was horrible. Do not blame restaurant as other tables were getting great service. Just our server sucked. Would disappear for 20 minutes as you would see every other server running around. So needless to say took forever..an hour+ to get really to get anything . Watched one table sit after us, eat and leave while we just got our food. Now on a positive note, OMG the fried mushrooms were outstanding, had the Fort Worth Ribeye and it was well seasoned and tasted great. The sweet potato was excellent as well. Would have been 5 stars but just could not because of that server.
No wait. Good service. Had the 20 oz Sirloin. Perfectly cooked. Broccoli was a little undercooked to my taste. Good side salad served on chilled platters. Atmosphere was festive, crowded and loud. Unfortunately, no one was taking the famous 72 oz challenge. Glad we went.
Must be tourist season. Was packed. Now they have an online reservation and still took me a hour and a half to be seated and I was alone. This was after I stood in line for 15 mi utes to get seated and found out it was the wrong line. Things have changed and moved around in there. A nee bar area was added to help customers from just standing around in the center walk area. Still they was waiting and porch was full of customers waiting. So packed that the waitress barely checked on me and no one told her they sat me in her section. I had to stand up several times to look around for her and no one else asked me if they could help me. I had to send steak back not cooked the way I asked. Had good flavor. Then they sent me out a second ribeye steak cooked same way but less flavor. I didnt get my fixings for my loaded potato till the end and potato was cold so it didnt melt the butter or cheese. Talking about vutter. For the price we pay for steaks about 20 dollars and up looks like they have real whipped butter they send out in a container then packets. They even hide the butter from the waitstaff one told me lol smh! By that time I didnt care to eat and wrapped it up and took it home for my dogs. But over all I do like the place. I always stop in when I get a chance. Just wish sometimes I am not on a schedule to spend more time in there. I am a OTR trucker.
Love the decor and the food was delish and came fast! That 24 ounces of steak was done right! Salad was fresh and delish as was the fries and they definitely lived up to that saying everything is bigger in texas! We had to share! Will recommend and be back! The hostess, server and restroom attendants were friendly and helpful too!
Protip: sign up for the wait-list before you go.Its a tourist trap in such a delightful way. There are a couple of bars, arcade games, shooting range and even a gift shop to keep you entertained for the +1hr wait. The sides were nothing to write home about, but the steaks were amazing - cooked perfectly and seasoned well.
I was driving to Texas today on June 27th specifically Amarillo Texas beside the stop at The Big Texan steak ranch try the ribs. I decided to try to sample her just to get a good taste and flavor. One thing I found out for sure everything is not bigger than Texas 😂😂😂 I have had bigger portions in California and paid less very disappointed in Texas. Luckily Im on my way to Tennessee Ill keep yall posted on their plate size there this place is definitely not worth the stop see pictures that I put.My brothers is on the left mine is on the right and yes we ordered the exact same thing. No restaurant should be that busy to get ordered this wrong. I weigh about 225 lb if youre hungry man this is not the place to eat.
Great steak place as you find only in Texas! Big Texan is one of the best places to get a steak in TX, if you are a meat lover you can get a big Texas style stake each time you travel through Amarillo. The food is delicious but the environment and services are amazing! The staff is always friendly and helpful, the prices are reasonable for the amo of food served.
Wow, this place is hopping! Its huge inside. Lots of tables. Family style. Its pretty loud inside with chatter. We were seated right away. We asked for a booth and got one. Our server wasnt very friendly. We didnt see him very much and never offered to refill our drinks. We ordered the chicken fried steak. It was pretty good. Its pretty large. I got coleslaw, which was super delicious, and cowboy beans that we loved. We also got the bbq combo. The bbq beef was okay. Pretty fatty. The ribs were amazing! Our favorite. The sausage was okay. The bbq sauce it comes with is delicious. We got potato salad that was delicious and cheesy potatoes that were okay. They actually forgot our cheesy potatoes, and the bbq was supposed to have onion rings. When we asked for them, he seemed inconvenienced. But brought 2 rock hard room temp onion 6 a siupy mess of potatoes. There was a guy walking around playing guitar. He sang happy birthday to my husband. It was fun. Overall good experience .
I can now say I have been there. I cannot say I will ever go back. The food is what I expected. The steak was overcooked and someone was heavy handed with the black pepper. The mac and cheese was awful. It was bland and dry. The best items were the fried mushrooms, baked potato, and okra. They also produce some nice beers. This is one of those places you go to once just to say you have been.
Even though I live we live in the panhandle, we have never thought to visit here. Well.... we finally did. Really enjoy the environment. The staff are all very friendly. They say us in a booth, and were promptly helped. The food was a delight. Have to give lots of props on their steaks. Great place to eat whether you are local or just passing thru.
This was my Third time going to this place!!! Service is always great plus the steak is like no other!!! Plus its fun to watch people do the 72oz steak challenge!!! Best real.... Texas Steak You Will Ever Have!!!! Steak has so much flavor youll never need no steak sauce!!! Very juicy and flavorful!!! This steak is the 36oz Houston cut ribeye steak butterflied....
Ambiance is good, exciting and for a Sunday evening, very busy!!! Hubbys steak was perfectly grilled. Mine (ribeye- ordered medium) was not even after sending back 2X it was bloody!! We took it home and finished grilling it ourselves. Otherwise a good experience, but I must say the reason we went was for the steak! So checked off the list, no need to return. We were privileged to some interesting information...the men who used to do the grilling for years, all got snapped up by Longhorn. The new crew hasnt been there long enough to know the ins and outs of grilling the different cuts. Very sad the former crew werent offered raises to stay.
I have give at least one star in order to post, personally I will give no stars. Good place to look around but food not so good. I’m order 16 oz prime rib, please see attached photo, basically there are give me last night leftovers put on the grill heat it, inside meat are still cold. I don’t know this is prime rib or grill steak ? and also order Texas fries it cost $14, the fries are not freshly cook, Burger King have better fries, I will not come back
Nice place to visit and dine. This place is where you get a free steak dinner if you can finish their 72 oz steak in one hour. My wife and I are visiting Amarillo and we tried this place the first time. Wow, we were not disappointed. The food and service are excellent. We ordered a 18 oz rib eye steak and it was cooked perfectly. It was one of the best steak Ive ever tasted. They also have a gift shop in the restaurant. I definitely recommend 100% this place.
The ambiance was great 👍🏽 being from Florida I definitely felt the Texas vibe 🇨🇱. Our server Christian was super sweet. ⚠️⚠️*** Word of advice*** ⚠️⚠️If youre not looking to eat Bull 🐂 testicles 🥜 dont order the mountain🏔 oysters!!!!😯😳 what a surprise when we brought it to our waitress attention that it didnt taste like oysters! You can watch your steak being prepared because the grill is open to the dining area. 🍖I would Recommend if your passing through to stop🤚 by grab a bite. Its a lot of different things to see in this spot plenty of Its suivineirs to buy. Besides the Bull testicles 🐂🥜 the food 🍽was good
72oz steak? No, thank you...lol Checked out this cheerful looking building, very interesting inside. Old time theme with more conveniences...lol notice when you walk in the front door, look to your right and snap a photo or two and continue to the dining room or on your left is the gift shop, watch out there is a snake..lol really there is. Straight ahead upon entering beyond the gift shop is the famous 72 oz steak for free if you finish it display, if youre curious. Grab a stool and order a drink or play a game, your choice. The food was delicious and the waitresses are nice and if youre lucky a man strolling by will sing, give him a tip pls.Enjoy.
The Big Texan was quite the experience! Food was amazing. I had the double duke ribeye and my wife had the fried catfish. Both were fantastic! Staff was friendly and efficient. The ONLY thing that stops the full five stars was the entertainment. The gentleman was quite talented but surely should have been on a stage or a stool in the restaurant. Instead he went table to table belting out songs and playing the guitar with his legs literally against the table while we were trying to eat. Great guy, very talented but a huge invader of personal space. Wouldn’t stop me from going back though. Great experience
Interesting place to visit at least once. They bring you warm rolls while you wait. As far as the food goes... the ribeye steak was tasty and tender 😋, I like mine medium rare. The sides were mediocre considering what youre paying, I had mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli. The broccoli tasted old so I asked to have it replaced with Mac n cheese, unfortunately that wasnt a better choice either 😑 also, I had a cherry lemonade and it was waaaay too sweet, I actually waited until the ice itself watered it down. While we dined 3 men were doing the 72oz steak challenge so that was fun to watch. The restaurant has a fun decor. The gift shop is cute. We skipped desert but had the coconut Gelato which was delicious. One thing I did notice once we got up from eating and had a chance to take a good look around is that although it was only my husband and I is that they sat us in the middle tables with another couple (African Americans). The booths by the walls and more private seating was full of Caucasians..... very sad that they have this type of mentality. So our bill was $110 for my husband and I plus tip, although service was lackluster, the server seemed tired and bored which sucked because we saw other servers with huge smiles and actually being friendly with their customers. I mean if youre getting tipped well you can at least fake that you are glad you have customers to help... I hope this review helps others 🤷♀️
I have been here a few times & I must say while it might be touristy for some, I however Love this place! My steak has always been cooked to perfection. I enjoy the atmosphere & rubbing elbows with the local friendly Texans. Every time that I pass through Amarillo I look forward to coming to the big Texan steakhouse. They say everything is bigger in Texas & this place does not disappoint! Absolutely 100% recommended!!! 👍😊
Stopped here in our cross country trip in hopes of eating an amazing steak. The service was amazing. The food was a solid 4 out of 5 stars. The steak was overcooked for my liking and the char was legit burnt. I ended up not being able to eat the burnt bits and the cook was not very consistent throughout the steak. I would eat there again, but would be more picky with my steak the next time.
The first night of our first trip towards San Antonio after finally retiring, we made it to Amarillo and knew we had to go to The Big Texan for dinner. (Made it a full experience and stayed at the BT hotel as well!) Decided to share a 24 oz boneless ribeye and sides to go with it. The steak was tender and absolutely delicious - until he bit down hard on a small piece of bone. We were hoping it was not too bad but, unfortunately, by the next day, he knew he was in trouble. Tried to enjoy the sites in San Antonio but the pain and swelling were too much to bear. This is when retirement worked to our advantage. Had our daughter overnight our passports from Colorado (will never again travel without them) and headed to Mexico where wed heard about good, inexpensive dental care. Took most of a week to get it taken care of - ended up with a tooth extraction and a partial - but are almost back home now after stopping at the Big T again today! Didnt have a steak but still enjoyed the food and the experience in Amarillo! Moral of the story: boneless does not always mean boneless!
The Big Texan is almost like visiting an amusement park when it comes to restaurants. The decor would make Teddy Roosevelt giddy. Big game everywhere. We had a party of three and it took over two hours to be seated. When we finally did get our table, we had mixed reviews on the food. I had the rack of ribs. They were good but not the best Ive had by any means. My son had the 18 oz NY Strip. He enjoyed that and said it was really good. My wife ordered a prime rib rare and got a piece of shoe leather. She and I, was not happy. We told a waiter and it was corrected. She got a nice rare piece of prime rib and life was much better. Again. Not the best ever, but decent. We spent from 6:30pm to approximately 10:15pm to have dinner. So if you want a quick meal, this aint it. If you have the time and want to have a big meal and enjoy the atmosphere of a big game lodge and saloon, this is pretty cool and its a family friendly restaurant. Key point, you have to expect to wait and be ok with that. Weve eaten here several times, this time was a little disappointing. If youve never been, Its worth a stop but again, come when you do have time to wait.
Disappointed. I first heard about this restaurant when I was a kid. For over 30 years I’ve wanted to visit. I finally get a chance and I was very disappointed. After we finally got a table, there was another long wait before we even saw our waiter. Then another long wait before we ordered. Then another long wait for our food. The food was ok but nothing spectacular. After I had finished my meal, the dinner rolls arrived that we had be promised on three occasions. We ended up spending over 2 hours there for a mediocre meal. After all of these years of waiting, I wish I had just gone to a chain restaurant instead for dinner. The food would have been just as good and twice as fast.
Overall: ALayout & decor: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Food quality: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Cleanliness: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Customer service: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Timeliness: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Review: stopped by for the brewery but then decided to have lunch. This place lives up to its name!! You won’t be disappointed by the portions & pricing is good for what you get. Beer is pretty good too!! A big restaurant & good place on the way through Amarillo.
What a fun experience! The Big Texan holds up to its lore. The food was great and the atmosphere is friendly and inviting. As a bonus, you can watch people attempt to eat the 72 oz. Big Texan Steak Dinner. Everyone there really gets into it and cheers on each person who tries.I ordered the mountain oysters with a sweet potato and it was great. I was pleased that the oysters were accompanied by a very large, fresh jalapeño too. That really made it a tasty dish. This is a destination restaurant and you will likely have to wait quite a while for your table, no one is exempt from this. But if you go early in the week, it’s my understanding that your wait might be less than it gets later in the week. And weekends are apparently very, very busy as one would imagine.
This visit was my 2nd time in the house and I intend to stop as often as I can. Truck Driver doing thst coast to coast life, but back to The Big Texan. Im not gonna lie, theres so much to see and try here that youll be reading my first novel if I tried to tell it all in one swoop. The steaks are phenomenal, and when you simply are just walking to the door you cant help but to start drilling from the smell of the grille. Really is a great atmosphere with the occasional live music, they have the center of attention table for those daring few to try and earn a free meal by downing a 72oz ribeye, 2 sides, 1 drink and a roll. Aside from the food they have a really nice gift shop, Ice-cream and cake shop, a bar, shooting gallery game. Just so much to do and see. I highly recommend if youre ever in the area to try them out. My 2 times going Ive drove an additional couple hours out if my way to visit. Truckers park in the back. Lol
The environment was awesome, the decor was cool, it was nice walking around checking things out. After you check in to eat and wait your hour and a half-2 hours, everything changes. You sit down and while your looking at the room your rushed to order your drinks and food by the snooty waitress that clearly is annoyed she has another table to wait on. When we did finally order my pregnant wife ordered a well done steak and I got medium rare, when they came out mine was overly cooked and my wifes was basically rare. Both grissily and chewy. Being as shes pregnant she couldnt eat her steak, by the time the waitress came back she had a bigger attitude to fix the issue and took the cut and tried steak back to put on the grill! Along with other peoples steaks! Ontop of that they have a grease/drippings catcher under the grill where when its full they take and dump it into a warming dish with a lattle so when your steak is done and plated the waitress takes a scoop and dumps it on the steak then serves it, making your plate appear to have a nice juicy steak on it meanwhile it is just drippings (seasoning, blood, and grill grime) from 100 different steaks that were cooked. And if you go later, the gift shop closes before the restaurant and if you plan on going back after you eat, you cant because they close it all down before customers even are out of the building. If you want to travel here for the food, dont. If your driving by and want a picture with a cow go for it. Texas road house makes better steaks!
We road-trip cross country quite a bit and have purposefully gone the southern route through Amarillo just to eat at The Big Texan Steak House. I’ve eaten there four times on road trips and had an amazing experience every single time. The steak, sides, drinks and desserts are all 10/10.
Cant get more American than this on Thanksgiving! Prime rib was good, chicken fried steak was ok, kids meals came in a cowboy hat and my kids thought that was fun. Overall an interesting experience. Thought it was a little overpriced for the quality but we still enjoyed it. Chocolate cake was nice and moist, strawberry shortcake wasnt too sweet and had plenty of fresh strawberries.
We have been here a few times and LOVE it every time! The kids get to have fun and take a break from being on a road trip! Fun games, cool gift shop! Lots of things to look at. FOOD is great. The Fried Mushrooms are out of this world. The sirloin steak is so tender and Delicious. We also appreciate the friendly staff and The singing Cowboys that serenade us! Great kids menu as well!
You gotta eat here! Its been a classic Texas stop for years and it wont disappoint. I had the 12oz ribeye, mashed potatoes, caesar salad, and sweet tea. Steak was cooked perfectly and seasoned well too. I was fortunate and got to watch a fellow try to eat that 72oz steak in an hour challenge as well. He didnt make it, but he gave it a shot. Its a fun place with good food.
This place is truly one of a kind. The ambiance was super entertaining, and the decor was very fun. We went at 7pm on a Saturday and were told there was a 2 hour wait. Luckily it actually took much less time. Its too bad they dont offer reservations. The food was good. The steak was alright. Ive definitely had better. But the sides were delicious! I got the sweet potato and okra which were both great, and the rolls were addicting!Overall, very glad we went, but it feels like more of a go once kind of place than somewhere Id go out of my way to visit every time Im passing through town.
This is my opinion, take it as you will. Ultimately, the decision is yours to make. I will not be making a second trip here. If you want a full flavored meal go to outback or Texas roadhouse. My 12oz ribeye cooked medium rare was bland. My water had more flavor than my food. The onion rings were over cooked and these were also without any flavor. I personally dont want a group of people walking up to the table making chit chat and offering to play a song while I eat... thats just weird to me. For two adults and two kids our meal was right at $100. We had water to drink, onion rings for the appetizer (left roughly 2/3rds untouched), my kids barely ate their orders, my wife didnt finish hers, and I only ate the steak bc it was $23. Its a tourist trap and I got caught. McDonalds would have been a better choice than here.
Fun place to visit when passing through Amarillo. Conveniently located off 1-40. We showed up about 9pm and it was still really busy. Added to the wait-list which initially was about 90 minutes. Ended up getting a table in about 20 mins which was great. Food was just okay, but the plate was cheap so I didnt expect a super high quality steak. Service was good. Rattlesnake IPA was good however we could only order a pint because of abv% which is a dumb rule. Id recommend this restaurant and go back.
Amazing yesterday this place is amazing looking forward to come back soon my server went above and beyond I wish I got her name we went there around 550 pm and by 630 pm we got a table even though the waiting list was very long they take care of everything fairly quickly !! even ordering and getting your food was fast and delicious 😋 rattle snake 🐍 in the back gift shop 😮😊😊😍😍
Most delightful and delicious experience thats a must try if in amarillo texas. The restaurant is 2 stories with jaw dropping attractions. Bring an appetite because all the food is spectacular. From the bread, to our appz then the lunch specials. Mouth watering from the reminisce. Dont forget to treat yourself to thr beer flight that completes the visit. Perfection!
I enjoyed the fun decor and photo ops. I saw three guys fail to eat the 72oz steak. Haha. My waitresses patience with me was phenomenal, as I did not like my steak(S), plural. I asked for medium well, and it came out well done. Then I asked for medium, and it came out rare. And it tasted like it wasn’t seasoned with anything but the grill.Never been to a restaurant without any music, the silence was weird. But then the “live music” didn’t make it any less awkward, by standing right in front of your table while you eat, instead of being on the stage or somewhere off to the side. But anyways, it’s a really cool place to checkout.
We enjoyed our dining experience very much. The service was personal and good. The rolls were yummy and our salads were generous. The loaded baked potato was great. My husband said his steak was a bit tough. My prime rib lacked flavor. A bit disappointed there. I would dine hete again and try a different steak.
Amazing place w/ great food, got there too late to do the 72oz steak challenge. Had the 16 oz Prime Rib, also mashed potatoes w/ an amazing white gravy. Homemade super fresh rolls. Also a big fresh salad, some other best blue cheese dressing Ive ever had. A must stop thx for an amazing meal
This was really great experience. Everything inside is in Texas style with gift shop and restaurant. We had a Fort Worth cut ribeye steak that was delicious.. juice and well cooked. In the back there is a lot of space for trucks so it is definitely one of the great places on I40. Highly recommending and also next time stopping to try porterhouse 🥩😅Overall I give it 5 out of 5 🌟
This was probably one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to. The atmosphere and the food was amazing. Staff was extremely helpful too. If I have the chance to come back when I pass by TX, I will come back. They also have truck parking for 18 wheelers in the back, not that much space but a few spots.
Its a really unique place and definitely worth visiting at least once. Just be aware that your food may take awhile because they are busy and their food is fresh (you can see them making it which I thought was cool). There will be people going around from table to table that will be taking tips and will play you some country music (or if youre a little kid theyll play songs like you are my sunshine and Yankee doodle and stuff like that). They also have a challenge where if you can eat a 72 oz steak, a baked potato, rolls (8), a shrimp cocktail, and a salad then you get it for free and a free t-shirt, but you have to do it in under an hour, not puke, and eat everything on your plate. Overall a very unique experience and I definitely recommend.
If you pass by this place and dont stop your doing yourself a great big disservice. Hands down the best steak of my life from a restaurant. No one in my group did the challenge but someone was attempting it while we were there and it was a heck of a show. The service was top notch. Plan on them being busy we had a 45 minute wait but there was plenty to look at in the meantime. They have a large gift shop in the front but my favorite part of the wait was just being able to sit in the rocking chairs on the front porch in the shade. It was so good we are planning another trip down from Northeast Oklahoma in October.
What an amazing place to have a great Steak!!!!!! I am speechless!! We ordered the 72oz steak with the 8 sides, some onion rings, and of course a Country fried Steak, and all of it was super delicious!!!! The restaurant itself has a good atmosphere, staff is friendly and helpful, and its also interesting to see the people that take the 72oz steak challenge!!! If you ever find yourself in Amarillo, please do yourself a favor and stop at the BiG Texan.
I’m sorry about this review. I’m known to blow up my reviews. This one should be one of them. My steak was tough. But I understand y’all don’t age the steaks so I respect that. Perfectly fine, didn’t tenderize it… I’m okay with that ? Pshhh but my steak was raw. I asked for medium rare. I’m talking raw meat like I couldn’t eat the fat nasty raw. And I can handle it to an extent. I asked if they could cook it longer… so I waited 5 minutes. And it was the same way. Just put more seasoning on the steak. I will not come here again. I took a cup home. That’s good enough for me. Here is some pictures from this area
Nice little gift shop with neat souvenirs. Went around 9:00 pm and left at 11:10 pm. They closed at 10:30 pm but people were still there eating. The steak was DELICIOUS. had the 16oz strip and I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed this steak. Perfectly cooked and seasoned along with DELICIOUS sides. I cannot ask for more out of life. The place was rustic and western and no one was doing the 72oz challenge but I am very happy with my first time visit. Service was good but the cooking and serving time was delayed. Having good company helped pass the time. Regardless of the wait the food definitely made up for the wait and I am DEFINITELY coming back. I RECOMMEND this place 1000%.
This place is just amazing but this time was especially awesome cuz I have the best Jessica whit those beautiful tapatio eyes I fell like a king having my big steak which she recommend and she hit the spot for sure thx I hope to get back asap for Round two thx Jessica and team also the Gift shop great selections for sure
I’ve heard about this place for years. Driven past it many times going west and coming back… drive by… and now finally stopped.Plenty of parking… for cars, trucks, or 18 wheelers. Go in and give them your party number… then pass the time in the gift shop, arcade, or just looking at their horror pictures… yes, you heard me… they have scary pictures and automations… pretty scary for my almost 4 year old granddaughter.Even the Santa Claus manikins had a sort of old-time (evil) look to them. Funny to me… not so much to her. And the huge stuffed bear at the back will almost tump over if your little one steps on it… then it moves… and scares the B-Gee-Bees out of her… the gift shop was a better place for her (and I) to hang out until our party was called. The eating room was big and crowded. But no one was attempting the 72 ounces… bummer. There were a couple of singing cowboys that made there way to each table… singing the country song of your choice… and who appreciate tips. They were pretty good…The non-steak food was good. The ax and cheese was delicious. Not overwhelming portions like the steaks, but good. No doggie bags here. But the opposite was true about the huge portion steaks… yum and wow.Lots of picture spots for you tourists…Eat up… and bring your credit card.
I mean no explanation need it steaks are done to perfection , the seasoning is a must before u leave if u just a tourist driving by if u ever wanna experience the taste again at home buy the Seasoning. i say steaks are 10 out of 10 never had anything else there , ITS a STEAK HOUSE not a sushi place lol … can’t wait so swing by again !
The gift shop is cute but expensive, as expected. They have a lot of cool little things out and inside of the place. Even if you don’t eat the food, which was fantastic, but arrived a little cold cause they were slammed pack, then it’s worth a stop in.Get your picture taken in the big rocking chair. I’m tiny at 5’2 so it was huge!I can’t remember our waitress’s name but she was wonderful. The guy who stopped to sing at our table was a nice dude but awkward as hell ‘cause I wanted to eat in peace.
My sister and I were traveling through Texas and we read some great reviews for this place and decided we’ve got to stop by. The reviews raved about the atmosphere, service and food. It was late Friday afternoon, and we were waiting in line to be seated, and while there were a lot of people there, it seemed to be very quiet. We were expecting it to be a little more lively. We were reading about the 72 ounce steak dinner that if you can eat within an hour you can have it for free. The reviews made a big deal about watching people try to finish this meal. You would never know what was going on because there was no announcement about it it wasn’t mentioned at all. When our waitress, Diana H., came to our table she didn’t look at us, she had a frown on her face and she mumbled something. My sister and I ordered our drinks. When the waitress came back she basically asked us what we wanted, rudely. She took our order, and then brought out our salads. When we were almost done with our salads she walked up to our table and she asked us if we were ready to order. She totally forgot she’d already taken our order and didn’t notice the salads that were sitting in front of us that we were eating that she had already brought to us because she didn’t look up from the pad in her hand. We explained to her that she had already taken our order and explained to her what we had ordered including the salads that you don’t automatically get, you have to ask for, it’s one of the multiple side orders you get to choose from. I told my sister she must be high, and I don’t mean like high energy high I mean like low energy almost asleep high! I ordered a prime rib with baked potato and Caesar salad. My sister ordered the prime rib with hatch chili corn and a Caesar salad. The salads were a nice portion with plenty of Parmesan cheese. The baked potato was a good size but it wasn’t cooked all the way so I had to send it back. My sister‘s prime rib was cold so she had to have it replaced. The whole experience was very disappointing! But the service was the worst service we’ve had since we can remember! And that’s no joke!
My husband had been waiting patiently to take on the 72 oz. Steak Challenge for the longest time & he finally did it!He did his best to accomplish it, alas, it wasn’t meant to be! He had fun trying, though!I ordered the Potato Skins ($12.00) with the beef on the side for my two dogs. Our server, Chris, was the best! He was on his A-Game checking on me & my husband during his challenge. All the customers were cheering my husband on & wanted to take pictures! He felt like a celebrity, lol.Thank you, Big Texan, for a SUPERB experience!
We are from Amarillo so it’s just another place to eat, we went to celebrate my mom’s 80th birthday I ordered the chicken fried steak. Turns out the chicken fried steak was ROTTEN yes I said rotten. My brother tried a bite after he smelled it, his reaction was to spit it in his napkin. I ate a couple of bites wondering if they cooked it in some seasoning which you never do with a chicken fried steak outside of salt and pepper. So I called my waiter over told him he asked if I wanted anything else I said No because it took so long way to long to even get our order!!..Well Tony the manager finally came out, right away everyone at the table noticed how Tony the manager was very defensive my brothers girl friend even commented and said “looked like he wanted to fight”. Tony was way to defensive!!!! it took way to long for Tony to come to our table. Tony said he will look into it. We waited way to long pretty much for every thing. Well Tony the manager who in my opinion needs to be removed as manager. Tony finally came back after taking forever. Tony agreed and said it’s one in a million that I got a ROTTEN steak.. Really!! Tony that’s what I told you that it was ROTTEN . All he did was take my meal off the ticket. What Tony should’ve done was comp the entire ticket so maybe we return knowing The Big Texan knows how to appreciate a customer, Tony probably thought we are just passing through. It would’ve been like 44.00 dollars to comp the bill. When you get ROTTEN food and confirmed by the Manager Tony. I mean this was ROTTEN meat!!!. This wasn’t a bad order of forgetting my extra gravy! I’m certain The Big Texan isn’t broke. A true Texan takes care of his guest. I’m thinking Tony the manager isn’t from the great state of TEXAS. What a shame. We won’t return. Tony needs to be fired. Greed doesn’t make happy customers. The pic below is the famous ROTTEN chicken fried steak
Very good. Came in from out of town. Got there about 915. There was no wait and we got seated immediately. Ordered medium rare prime rib. It was as good as many higher end restaurants I have been. Waitress was nice and was attentive to us. They also had gift shop and many sweets for sale. For the price and quality, I will definitely be coming back again.
Dont get the BBQ sandwiches unless you like chewing on footballs but definitely order the rolls, they are absolutely amazing. Our waitress, Rowan, was very very nice and offered us different food after not eating the sandwiches. She was really attentive and fast, considering the place was so crowded. It was my first time there and would go again. The decor, Western, is also cool if youre into that type of thing. They also have a 72oz steak challenge that we got to see one man finish while we ate. It was pretty cool and free if you finish it under an hour.
Biggest steak house in Amarillo, Texas. Great atmosphere with a big dining area. Severs and staff were friendly, and did there jobs well! The food was awesome. I got the 24oz ribeye and it did not disappoint. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium, good char on the outside, and juicy! Compliments to the grill team! The in-house brewery makes fantastic beer too!!
I come to Amarillo every year and because of peer pressure I finally decided to come here. I went in with low expectations, but the food is actually good. I had the Duke steak, 20oz. No way Im doing the 72oz steak. Sides are really good and made in house, so everything was really good. Rolls with dinner came right out from the oven, so those went fast. Staff was nice and friendly. Facilities are a little worn, but I think that adds to the life of the place and it has been around forever.
Food was great , awesome customer service, clean atmosphere, absolutely Beautiful employees, delicious food/menu , the drinks are sooo worth it... The building is huge, great for gatherings...I had a freaking amazing time ,Im a female trucker, I appreciate the warm welcoming,Theres a lovely Father and Son , singing folk music/soul music❤️😎 🎶🎶I felt a lil out of place because, Im black , but the staff made my insecurities go away.....I love you all, God Bless🙏🏿
Very cool experience while we were passing out through Amarillo. We stayed at the Hampton Inn nearby, very easy to walk to. Food and drinks were good. They were super busy so was very entertaining to watch everyone move around and the beers they had on tap. Good food and lots of entertainment including a gift shop. They have a 72oz. St al, if you can eat it in 1.hour you get it for free.
I was looking for something great, but maybe they were under staffed. Waitress took to long to bring us our drinks and appetizer then just asking for plates for the appetizer took long asked for extra ranch for the appetizer and that was a mistake took over 20 min just too get some. Our steaks were good, but next time I know what to expect, hopefully it will be better. Would of gave 5 stars if it wasnt for the service
After finding out the hotel we were staying at was just down the road, I had to eat at the Big Texan. The food was pretty good, it didnt have the down home feeling I thought it would. It feels more like a tourist destination than a restaurant. We had the smothered barbecue waffle fries, they were very good. I had a 16oz Ribeye with mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese. The sides were good, not the best I ever had; but good! The steak had a good bit of gristle, but the seasoning and sear was perfect. Also, if you order medium rare; it may be on the rare side. I love rare steak so I was fine with it being more rare. But if you are picky about how done your steak is, be sure to specify. My girlfriend had the chicken fried chicken with fried okra and mashed potatoes. She really enjoyed it, the chicken was very good! We also shared a frozen margarita and we both loved it. The service was very good for being as busy as it was. The reason for only giving it 5 stars is, a really good restaurant shouldnt have a giant gift shop attached to it. If you are looking for atmosphere this is the place to go to. I would eat there again!
They were able to seat 43 people in our tour group, and the wait wasnt to long. The Lone Star Cut (for two), with my partner was delicious. Our server was really nice, and we were lucky enough to see someone from Arizona try the 72oz steak challenge (didnt finish with 22min left).
Truck driver and RV Friendly place, great brewery and steaks. Was told it was going to be a two hour wait but it was more like a hour. Luckily there is a bar and a cute gift shop to keep you entertained. We had a great waiter and the bartenders were friendly. 4 stars bc the Host was not so friendly.
Very fun experience and definitely need to come back to maybe try my hand at the challenge! If nothing else just to try out other items on the menu. The kiddos enjoyed their food and got a cowboy hat out of it. They had a good variety of dessert items with fudge, cakes, ice cream, but sadly didnt get a chance to try them. Definitely recommend coming at least once to check it out.
Mid-afternoon during the week visit. 45 minute wait for a table, not terrible because you can browse all the kitschy souvenir stuff in the store.Once seated our server came fairly quickly and took our drink/food order BUT then we waited for 45 minutes for the food. Waitress did not bring the rolls that came with all 4 meals and forgot one side order. Those took another 10 minutes. I got the 12oz ribeye, it was cooked to order (medium) but had LOTS of very tough fascia and was hard enough to cut much less chew. Not sure if she was new, overworked or just spacey but our server would disappear for 10 to 15 minutes at a time. The two tables she served next to us got similar service. My son had better luck with his 8oz top sirloin, cooked to order, tender and he like it. Youngest son thought his chicken fried chicken HAD to be two birds, it just about covered his plate and he enjoyed it. Wifes chicken fried steak was much thicker than typical (dwarfed by the chicken fried chicken) but she liked it.For the cost, service and quality of my steak I would not go back and would have a hard time recommending to friends.YMMV
Im actually not a huge steak guy but this place was amazing. Walked in about 30 mins before closing and was still shown to a table promptly and given superb service for my entire visit. My steak was cooked perfectly to order (Medium) and was actually seasoned. My waitress was very proactive. The decor was very dramatic but given the theme it makes sense. They have the biggest slices of cake I have ever seen for sale in the bakery and the rolls were some of the best Ive had in awhile. Truck friendly parking was directly in the back and the entire place is very well lit on the outside. Ill be stopping through every chance I get.
A great, fun, Texas themed place to get a steak. We went on a Thursday night and they were busy but there was no wait. The food was delicious, the portions are a decent size. Try to save room for desert, the chocolate mousse cake was amazing! The kids meals are served in a straw cowboy hat that can keep as a souvenir and wear, how fun. While we ate, live music was playing and they would go around the dining room and play at different tables. That was entertaining and a nice touch. After dinner check out the gift shop or the fudge counter. If you stop here you wont be disappointed!
If youre hungry and looking for a good meal and a glorified Texas experience, the Big Texan is for you. Service is quick and friendly, the food is delicious with hefty portions, and the building is eccentric but entertaining.Got a rack of ribs and was not disappointed. A lot of their food is made in house from fresh ingredients, and their beer is brewed on site. You can see parts of the kitchen from the dining room which I thought was a cool feature. There are southern style decorations all along the walls, and the staff are clad in boots and cowboy hats. Instead of feeling corny it feels like an over the top good time. Absolutely recommend if you are in the Amarillo area.
If you are coming through Amarillo and have never been before, this is a must stop. It is an experience that everyone should have at least once in their lives. It was packed and busy - proving its a favorite for locals and tourists. The food was really good as well. The chicken fried steak and the fried okra was good, but personally the best thing was the appetizer - the mountain oysters! I had never had any ever before, but it was worth getting here! The only drawback was that it is really busy, and you need to get there early! Overall a fun experience with good food and very friendly staff!
A must stop on Route 66 in Amarillo. We loved it all. Amazing steaks and atmosphere at the restaurant, fun gift shop and games, and tasty fudge. We even stayed at the Big Texan hotel next door and swam on the Texas shaped pool! I highly recommend the steaks (obviously) . We had the Ribeye and the 18oz Man vs Food Sirloin meal. The green Chile corn was awesome and the kids meals come inside a free cowboy hat. We also watched the 72os steak challenge. If you can eat it all in an hour you win! If not you pay $72!
This was so worth the experience! One of the best steaks that I have ever had. Waitress was super friendly and attentive. My brother and I were traveling route 66 as part of our cross country road trip and decided to stop at this unique place. My brother did the challenge... But did not complete so he had to pay for his but so worth it. Had enough steak to eat off for the next 2 days. Because of his gluten allergy they did allow him to alter some of the fixins for the challenge.. So that was nice.Would definitely stop again!!!
Don’t go hungry wanting a great meal, go for the fun and atmosphere. It’s a tourist place for sure. The singers are great! The steak is terrible don’t get it! The salad is great, my kids liked the Mac n cheese and the desserts are pretty good. My husband said the ribs were pretty good. Our sever was terrible too BUT we made our own fun and focused on the uniqueness.
This place has a cool old west vibe. We visited on a Sunday afternoon and the wait was 25-30 minutes. We were seated upstairs which gives you a nice perspective of the just how many people the place holds. Our server was prompt and attentive. The steaks we had were ok, nothing that wowd us. Overall a solid meal. It was a neat experience.
Super neat and nostalgic cowboy themed place to eat and shop. Go early to avoid wait. Probably too crowded as our first night where we sat at a table that kept getting bumped into. Large tables are crammed to close and people have difficult time moving around. Majority of servers seem to enjoy their job, but some are not very enthused. A manager stopped by our table and didnt listen at all as we conversed but another one was totally receptive as we departed. Our server both nights were very good and attentive. Food pretty good, chicken fried chicken very good, onion rings great. Steak tips very good, steak 8/10. Good prices, easy off and on to I40.
A long wait but its worth it and you can shop for cute souvenirs, get ice cream/Gelato, shooting range game or the play casino. Not going to lie the seaonings or flavor profiles they use on the steaks is superb! best steak flavor ever! They have a 72 oz steak challenge you have to eat the steak and 2 sides in a hour and its free & youre added to their winners video. P.S If you dont win the challenge you owe them $72
Had a great experience on my vacation, the food was great and so was the entertainment. We absolutely loved the two gentlemen who played the guitar and violin at our table for us. They were the icing on the cake. I had the massive chicken fried chicken with Salad and fried okra and we also had the Steak with mashed potatoes and salad and an order of fried pickle spears ( fantastic). Both dinners were great choices. Made the drive to Dallas super hard with being so full. If ever in Amarillo again this is on the list.
Ok... I know this is like iconic Texan restaurant but this is my honest review as someone who really enjoys a good steak and has spent a lot of time learning how to cook them properly at home. Theres a whole lotta gimmick going on here and thats perfectly fine. It was busy and they were on a 35min wait, that said we waited an hour before they told us that they buzzed us a long time ago(our buzzer wasnt working). Fortunately, we said something and they seated us immediately. And we waited..... And waited.... And waited some more for someone to take our drink orders. Then we waited some more for them to come out. The server was really cool and comped an appetizer and some sides. We ordered the big 32oz double ribeye to share and the steak itself was perfectly cooked but pretty average taste. The Mac and cheese was good, the Caesar salad was good, the smoked rib sampler was kinda meh and the green chili cream corn was kinda meh as well. All in all, its a fun place to go, I wouldnt say that the food is anything special though.
Did not eat here. stayed for the night in the hotel moving across the country. Pet friendly. thought we lost our cat (he was hiding under the covers on mattress we flipped over, that lil sneak) had half of the staff looking for him. everyone was very very friendly and took us in various off limts areas to look for him. wish we would have had more time to eat there
Must stop if you are in the area. Food was delicious and the kids cowboy hats that come with the kids meals is so cute and such a great touch. We even got to watch someone eat a 72oz steak in under an hour. That was very cool to witness. Shout out to our server Shanna she was great!** you dont need to steal your sweet steak plate they sell them in the gift shop**
My wife and I have come here on several occasions and for the most part the food is excellent but tonight it wasnt good at all. First my wife had to send back her Filet Minot twice and on the third time it was still cooked not right so she refused her order all together. I ate mine slightly but I felt disappointed at my wifes plight and I also stopped eating. As for the manager all she said was Sorry and the back was having a hard night and all she did was remove my wifes meal from the ticket. A little to little and a little too late.
We are from kansas city, Mo and this was our first and might be our last. So the food would had been better if my beef on my buns wasnt over cooked and my 4 y/o ribs was just a little bit under cook, like it was just a little gummy like texture and then the waitress that was serving us made me feel like she was rushing us to eat by bringing us Togo boxes without us asking for them.

2022-03-16It was a pleasant experience! The dining atmosphere was very home like. We went as a very big group and one of the guys in charge I assume didnt seen too pleased. None the less they did manage to seat us together. The wait staff was very friendly and patient with our group. The food was delicious and worth the trip. Thank you to the guy who plays his guitar and sang for us Friends in Low Places. It turned out to be great time and I would definitely go again.

2022-05-08This is listed as a place you have to stop to eat if you are near there. It did not disappoint! The steaks were big and delicious. The sides were also good, but the desserts are amazing. We took our 4 layer slices of carrot cake and chocolate cake to go. These pieces of cake are HUGE and very good. There is something for everyone - live music, ice cream, gift shop, brewery and games in addition to the restaurant. We enjoyed it very much!

2022-06-05It was about a 30 minute wait to be seated but you can play games, have a drink at the bar, walk the patio or visit the gift shop, so it actually wasn’t too bad.We were seated upstairs and had a great view of the restaurant, and cooks, as well as the raised center for those willing to take on the 72oz challenge.I started off with some fried pickles and then got the 8oz center cut with cheesy broccoli and a Cesar salad, which was VERY filling. I didn’t get to try any dessert but they have quite a bit to choose from. All in all, a great experience, awesome atmosphere, friendly servers, and top notch food. Definitely stop and try if you’re in the area.

2022-05-23What a hoot! Go there for the experience, not necessarily the food. We went on a Wednesday, so there wasnt a wait. There were plenty of customers but the place is huge. As most everyone else, they sat us at the end of a very long family style table, but the waitress told us that we could move to the window table for 2. Free souvenir plastic cups for your water. The atmosphere is like a raucous movie western saloon. Those vying for a free 72 oz. steak are placed in the center at a raised table with prominent timers to mark their progress. You can see the steaks being cooked. Ours was a little tough but the ribs were good.Take the time to check out the Big Texan sign, the Big Tex Rex, and the multi-colored hotel rooms. And theres always the souvenir/gift shop,

2022-03-23We visited this spot for two reasons. First, it seems to be the most known restaurant in Amarillo, and second, we wanted to try out the real texan cuisine. The wait times at this location are insane, so it is better to make reservation ahead of time if possible. The employees are not the friendliest we encountered, but they are super busy, so its understandable. The menu is nice-looking, better than most places we visited. When we came in we were obviously going to eat meat, but they were out of T-bone steak, which is very unusual for such restaurant. The dishes we ordered were pretty good and fresh, but preparation takes quite a while, since the place was full. And it might not worth waiting such a long time to eat here. There is a lot of beer options in this location, and they even have small tasting glasses available. Overall, we had a decent experience here, especially since we simply drove through Amarillo. One suggestion, though, before trying the fried oysters, make sure you know what that really is…

2022-04-26Ive been looking forward to visiting this place for years, and it did not disappoint. I ordered the Dallas cut ribeye, rare, and it was excellent. For what I got I feel the price was a good value, but not cheap. The mountain oysters were very tasty as well. Staff was friendly and attentive. Im not sure I need to come back, but I wouldnt say no if I was with someone who wanted to check it out.

2022-05-01This place is a fun tourist stop for families and groups. I loved the old time west/country feel. Its very old west saloon kind of environment. The calf fries/mountain oysters were amazing!! The house salad was also delicious. We both ate steak. The steak was bland without much flavor. I would get chicken fried steak as a choice if I went there again. Definitely a great experience. My sister and I were able to make a great sister moment at this restaurant. Their souvenir store inside is great and prices are fair. I bought like $100.00 worth of things for my kids and sister. Dont go through Amarillo and not stop in for a great memory of Amarillo, Texas

2022-04-12The Big Texan Steak Ranch certainly lives up to its name! After seeing many billboards, we decided to stop for lunch last week, and we were not disappointed. The closest thing to this that we can find at home is Texas Roadhouse, but The Big Texan is really so much better. The prices were good, especially the ribeye lunch special (which is what we both ordered). The food was great. The steak was extremely tender and tasty. The sides were great, too, especially the chili— you could tell it was homemade, packed with meat and flavor. Our waitress was friendly and attentive, and the other employees in the gift shop area were friendly as well. This is a neat place to stop and take a look around, even if you’re not looking for a meal. There are a lot of Texas-themed gifts as well as some not specific to Texas. They also have a little bakery case there with some delicious and huge slices of cake (we tried the red velvet and it was honestly the best red velvet we’ve had in a while). There’s also an array of sugar cookies decorated with royal icing that also looked delicious, as well as ice cream and fudge.

2022-03-24This place is AMAZING! Steaks are cooked to where they melt in your mouth. Atmosphere is awesome, friendly service, and the decor is so unique. Definitely worth a try if youre in the area. There is a bit of a wait to get seated, but well worth the wait. Gift shop was impressive too.👍❤😋

2022-05-28Amazing, BUT!Perhaps the most unique, charming, and exciting locations Ive ever had the pleasure of dining in. As soon as you enter the property you are transported to another world and know that youre in for a treat. Welcoming hosts guide you to your table while live country music hums in the background. Start your meal with complimentary sweet and appetizing home baked bread. Entrees are substantial in portion and more than reasonable in price, and the wide selection of in house brewed beers is the perfect compliment to any meal.If youre daring enough to try their 72 ounce Steak Challenge then good luck!! And if youre not, then enjoy the free entertainment of watching those who are bold enough to give it a try X,DAll that being said, I had terrible food poisoning from the burger the next day, and with a 15 hour drive ahead of me it was absolutely miserable. Though it is a fun and interesting location with kind service and good tasting food, Id much rather have my health.
