Food was very good. I had a salad, others at the table had the fried chicken sandwich, which I tasted and it was delicious. The onion rings were fabulous! Only reason for the 4 was that the service was off a little bit. 2 ordered items never made it to the table, when it was mentioned to the waitress, she took the hit and was very apologetic. All-in-all it was a good experience.
The chicken fried steak really is great - maybe not THE best Ive ever had, but certainly up there. And the mashed potatoes are delicious. Its really pleasant to eat outside when the weathers decent, especially when you can enjoy the live music on the patio or hear it from the Copper Shot across the street in the evening. Ive also had fish there, and it was decent. They have some interesting drinks at reasonable prices as well.On the down side, service is very hit-or-miss. Its been great, and its been slow/inattentive, even when the place wasnt busy. And do NOT order any kind of cooked green vegetables, like brussel sprouts or broccoli -- theyre overcooked to the point of being almost mush. Stick to potatoes and the salad.Tl;dr: go for the chicken fried steak, have a couple of drinks, be patient, and youll have a good time.
Probably the most trash restaurant in Bastrop now. Used to be good but definitely needs a reform of employment and management. Filth. My family and I have gotten food poisoning from this place 3 times! First we didn’t know if it was Gracie’s, second time we noticed and decided to give it a third try because we didn’t want to believe it because we used to like to eating here. Sad
Chicken fried steak was the best! The Tidalwave was great if you like Bourbon order it! Fried shrimp were huge and tasty. The catfish was amazing! The burger was juicy and pretty big. Great service, nice environment, and a live band waa setting up outside as we were leaving.
Place was home style. Great service. Food was very tasty. We got the chicken fried steak. This will melt in your mouth. It has earned favor of the year, 13 years in a row. I can see why. The dont drown the steak in country gravy, just right. I suggest ordering side of country gravy to dip your fries in. Oh so good. You can order drinks here. Cosey bar, also have out side where band plays on selected evenings.
Staying in Bastrop for work and a local suggested “Gracie’s” for dinner. It was legitimately the best Chicken Fried Steak I’ve ever had. Thick but exceptionally tender cut, tasty breading that stayed put but was light and not overpowering. Came with fine garlic mashed potatoes and excellent green beans. Started with a simple but very fresh house salad and took an amazing slice of bananas fosters cake to go. Cute, cozy and comfortable. Nice outdoor seating for when it cools down a bit. Overall - OUTSTANDING!
This place is a must eat! We tried this place when we were in Bastrop. I saw they had chicken fried steak so I always have to try it on my quest for the best! This place was really charming and when we went they had live music and the band was really good! The food was amazing! The chicken fried steak is some of the best I’ve had. Plus we tried the Carrot Cake for desert and it was delicious I couldn’t stop eating it even though I was so full. Would definitely come back when we pass through again.
Subpar service, everything was dry and overcooked, salad was sad wilted iceberg lettuce, frozen unseasoned vegetables, and the cake literally had canned frosting on it. Total disappointment. I am sorry to leave a bad review, but this is the review I wish I saw before I spent money here.
Great food and friendly service. Enjoyed the atmosphere and music. I had the Sunday Lunch special 7.99 Pork Roast with Garlic mashed and green beans. Everything was seasoned perfectly. I highly suggest. My wife had the famous Chicken fried steak delicious she did share a taste. Crust had a great flavor just right batter to steak. It was good .We both enjoyed. Will return.
Very nice restaurant. First time in I played it safe and ordered the Guacamole cheeseburger. My wife got the bacon cheeseburger. Both were absolutely delicious. The French fries were tasty too. Excellent service and cozy atmosphere. Am looking forward to my next visit.
First time here. Started with drinks, chips and queso. Served warm and very tasty. Wife had the famous chicken fried steak. She enjoyed, but Texas toast showed up at the end of the meal. I had the shrimp portofino. Knew something was up when I was offered corn or green beans with it. Pretty disappointing. Dish needs to be rethought or dropped from the menu. Caesar salad wasnt and was just ok. Mostly the soft end of the romaine with nuts and dressing. Peach cobbler was generous and yummy, warm with vanilla ice cream. Service was friendly and attentive.
Stopped by on my way to Austin to check out their famous chicken fried steak. The breading was crisp and crunchy, and the beef was tender. I asked them to make it into a sandwich with he gravy on the side and they were really nice about it. My husband ordered it with sides and they were little blander than I prefer. Nothing a little salt and pepper couldnt fix. My daughter ordered a bacon cheeseburger which she said was really good. Served with a buttery toasted bun. The staff was really friendly and they allowed pets on the porch. They also had live music on Saturday during lunch!
It is cosy, with outdoor sitting, music, and the food is so very good. I had the grilled seasoned shrimp with wonderful spinach stir fried with great seasonings and pine nuts and angel hair pasta. Delish cobblers, cherry, apple and peach. Family owned... grandaughter of Gracie served us. Well go again when we come back to Bastrop..
We came to Bastrop to stop at a bakery to get some cupcakes and this place was recommended for good comfort food. The minute we walked I loved the hospitality and small rustic look and feel of the place. Places like this is why I love small town restaurants. The chicken fried steak was amazing! The service was quick. We had our food in less than 10 mins. The watermelon tea was awesome and they had live music outside. If you come to Bastrop this is a great spot to soak in the small town life.
Arrived at 1:00pm... The lunch menu states on the inside board it is from 11:00am until 3:00pm but when we ordered the lunch special the server said it was out. But she coldly offered me the same thing but from the dinner menu.. huh.. then there was no gravy for the mashed potatoes unless you paid extra. Ordered peach glazed rosemary chicken with mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts.. glaze was good... what there was of it.. the brussel sprouts were perfect. Ordered peach cobbler for dessert and it was delicious made with pecans in it was extra yummy!! Guess for lunch special one better be there at 11:00am!!!! Dining inside and out available.
We moved here a few months ago and this was our 3rd visit to Gracie’s. The first few visits were okay, but nothing to brag about. This last visit though was amazing! There’s a new manager, Allen, who was so kind and provided the best service I’ve ever had at a restaurant. Our food tasted a million times better than before. We’ll be back for sure. The chicken fried steak is to die for! That’s about all we order and it’s amazing.Would 100% recommend eating here! They’re great and treat you like family.
Food was delicious but they were remarkably slow. We waited 15 minutes to order and food came out almost 45 minutes later. Only plan on being here if you have plenty of time. Not a quick lunch break. That said they have a lovely patio to enjoy when the weather permits.
My life flashed before my eyes today eating at Gracies. Seriously. I had the Chicken Fried Steak, mashtaters and green beans. The CFS was so good - I mean, really SOOOO good, that I ran through in my mind all of the CFSs I have ever had. I could not think of a single time I had a BETTER CFS than the one I was eating. The meat was thick, maybe around 3/4, tender as a Prime tenderloin, without one bit of gristle. And the crust was perfect, and was the gravy. The taters were taters, but the green beans were superb as usual. And then I was told the reason why it was so good - Brenda was cooking today. On a side note, as I was walking into the place, a couple of really old codgers (my age) were checking out the sign out front, I assumed (correctly) they were deciding if they wanted to try it. I told them how good the CFS was, so they decided upon my recommendation. I talked with them when we left, and they were very pleased. They were form Michigan, down here visiting friends, and scoping out places to relocate. I put on my Ambassador Suit, and told them about what a great place Bastrop was to live, and how friendly the people were. I wouldnt be surprised if they moved here.
The burger was good. As was the live music. Thats where it stops, though. Service was slow. There were maybe 4 tables the whole time we were there and we still waited a long time for our food (just two burgers with fries). Our waitress disappeared for most of our meal, so we ended up having to rely on a different waitress to check on our food, refill our drinks, and bring us our check.
You seriously cannot go wrong here! Were a family of five, and Gracies is just a staple for a great meal when were in town. Comfy outdoor seating, and every single thing every one of us has ever gotten has been delicious! Chicken fried steak, obviously, is always a favorite 🙂
Had the cilantro chicken it was ok would give that dish a One star. My father in law had the green chili burger that was a two and half star. They didnt have sweet potato fries like he wanted and it took forever to get our food. The place was not super packed at all, but when we finally got a waitress we seen her once to take order and once for the check. But I wish we got the waitress Lexie, she was outstanding very customer service orientated, happy and easy to talk to from what I seen. Overall I give this place a 2 star. Sorry but just my two cents.
1) the server was polite. 2) the actual food when we finally got it was good quality and well executed.•The complaint; we waited 30 minutes to get a menu. It ultimately took us 70 minutes to finally get our food. We had to get everything to go and we were all late coming back rom our lunch break and we told the server we were pressed for time. And to add insult to injury we were charged a to go charge for our troubles. It took an hour and 10 minutes to get a tuna sandwich.Nice place. Good food. Speed and timeliness are definitely not a priority.
My friends and I came here for dinner tonight. I ordered a burger and fries, specifically requesting to skip butter and cheese. While my burger was very hot and flavorful, I suspect the bun still had butter. Im now concerned about a possible adverse reaction later on. It also took us a very long time to get our food. And when the waitress brought my burger, I was given chips instead. I told her I had asked for fries. She apologized and stated she would bring them, but she never did. We left without me ever getting the fries. Im disappointed with the quality of their service. The food was good, but I hope the waitresses and cooks can do better next time.
Quaint, hometown style cafe you can go to with family and everyone will leave full and happy. Happened to stop in at 230pm on a Sunday and wasnt at all crowded for our family of 6 and received excellent table service. Their claim to fame is the chicken fried steak. My Wife and I both had it and was absolutely amazing. It had a crispy, well seasoned breading and was very tender and moist. All plate portion sizes were very ample, if you leave here hungry then its your own fault! Wish we had one closer to home and would eat here every Sunday. Did notice that they closed at 4pm so be sure to check open and closing times carefully before going.
Under the circumstances of being busy, the waitress was apologetic and let us know it was her first time, she was shadowing another. As much as I wanted to fuss my older Son wouldnt let me and he reminded me of me doing the same kind of work when they were little, which humbled me. She was doing her best, so if youre wondering why a 5 ⭐✨ rating.... Well because she made sure I was safe to eat. I have a food allergy and she stopped what she was doing and in between to go speak with the chef and he made special precautions for me by actually cleaning a portion of his grill to cook my food, Grilled Trout with all the fixins. The food was great. My Grands were a little unruly but when that food came it became silent 🤫👍 my thanks to the Chef/Cook, and thanks to waitress for taking of me/us. Thank Gracie for Great and Hot food. Worth the wait.
The waitress never checked on us. She took our order and gave us our water. Another waitress actually brought our food to us, which was fine. After that no one checked on us. They forgot my salad I ordered. Never been to a place that covers garlic mashed potatoes with country gravy. When I asked the waitress why she had not been by, she said they were understaffed. It was a Sunday night and not that many people were there. 3-4 servers could easily cover that.
Great food great employess good service. If you have never been here before you are really missing out try the fried green beans or hand battered onion rings for an appetizer. best chicken fried steak the past 15 years in a row the chicken fried chicken is good also the rooster i recomend trying it with swiss chesse and jalapenos. For dessert all the cobblers are mouth watering the browine special os just delicious.
Just had lunch @ Gracies! What a great spot! My family of four eat at great lunch. I had chicken fried chicken salad with buttermilk ranch (homemade), my wife has blt with thick good bacon, my daughters had Turkey and Swiss and the rooster sandwich (which might have the been dish). Save room for bananas Foster cake! Southern charm and great food!!!
We gathered for a celebration dinner there. The place was packed since it was Memorial day wknd and graduation the following day. We dined outside because the restaurant was very small. It was so hot and sultry from all the rain we had had that we all looked like we had taken a shower with our clothes on.BUT, the food was great which made up for the weather.
We arrived at our hotel late and as a single mom, I really needed a good meal for my kids and I. I googled places to eat and saw this place was exactly what we needed. We called and the girl who answered apologized but said due to COVID, they closed at 10 instead of 11. She could sense my disappointment and placed me on to go ask if they could keep the kitchen open. How sweet! She wasn’t gone long and encouraged me to “head on over here, we’re going to wait for you.”We arrived, and she was so patient with my kids who were a bit of a handful and took a few minutes to make up their minds. The whole staff made sure our experience was one to keep us coming back! The food was amazing, not to be out done by the service!Thank you Lauren! You are amazing and even though I’m sure you had a long day and couldn’t wait to go home, your thoughtfulness showed how truly wonderful you are!We don’t usually pass through Bastrop, but I’ll be going out of my way more often, because great service and food aren’t an easy find! Well worth it!Graciously, My humble family!
The first time in 6 years the entire staff refused to provide service, acknowledge my presence, our even perform the normal greeting must have been my Trump hat but that is okay we have lots of fine restaurants in Bastrop that love our business I suggest choosing elsewhere to dine
The Gracie Miller is a friendly, casual place for comfort food. The staff was very welcoming, albeit a bit busy. I have to admit their chicken-fried steak was tasty, bit I was impressed by little else.the mashed potatoes tasted like they had been cooked from a box, and green beans were good but nothing special. We sat outside because the inside was noisy and felt cramped and crowded, but the tables were tiny, and even with just two people, I felt like I had no elbow room. Otherwise, I was satisfied, as the patio had a warm, summer break feel with a clean, easily-accessible restroom and a stage where I can only assume they have live performances. If you are looking for a burger or something fried, with a small-town crowd this is a good place for you.
Such a cute and quaint little place it has indoor and outdoor seating and also has a bar area we were there for lunch around 2 o clock so it wasnt very busy. My husband have the chicken-fried steak that has been voted the best for 13 years in a row. I had a burger and fries. The food was really good a little pricey for the portioning. Our waitress was super sweet and on top of her job.
Ok, the only things I have had there are the chicken fried steak and the chicken fried pork chop. I usually get the CFS because I cant not get it. Its that good. Round it out with green beans, mashed potatoes and plenty of gravy. The one time I got the pork chop it was on the special that day and it was just as good. I know people who have had the burger and say its amazing. Never seen anyone leave here unsatisfied. When in Bastrop, check it out. Or heck, its not that far away from Austin. Take a little day trip. You wont regret it.
Food is good but hosts need to quote better wait times I got a 15 minute wait quote. I waited for an hour and saw people who cam 30 minutes after me, go in before me, even though they had no set appointments, I was really disappointed. If it wasnt for my wife who loves their food, I wouldve left, I try not to go there unfortunately its where me and my wifes first date was so its sentimental but they helped me convince her not to go anymore.
Extremely over priced. I went in for the lunch special thats supposed to end at 3. The manager said they were sold out and they usually run out by one. Seems to me they should order enough supplies to fulfill the advertised lunch special. Also,no senior plate options.have enough supplies to honoHo
Tonight was our third visit to Gracie Miller and will be our last. The service is the only reason I am giving them any stars at all. Waitstaff was very attentive and pleasant but that’s where the good ends.We ordered spinach queso which is canned cheese (think football stadium nachos)with shredded spinach leaves in it. The chips were fresh but what that equates to was greasy.I ordered a Swiss mushroom burger and fries. The burger was ok but the fries tasted like old grease. I ate two of them and couldn’t stomach anymore. My husband ordered the “award winning “ chicken fried steak with brussel sprouts. We asked how the sprouts were prepared so we could decided between those and the green beans. We were told they were cooked in garlic butter and bacon drippings. What we received was what appeared to be the microwave in a bag Brussel sprouts you can get at HEB in the frozen section, and a very dark overcooked chicken fried steak that quite literally smelled like old grease covered in powdered gravy. The hubby tried to remove the breading to make it edible and even that didn’t get rid of the taste of grease.Again the staff was nice and very apologetic. They removed the chicken fried steak from our ticket and we ordered some raspberry cheesecake to go. It was the best part of the food and even it was only ok.Really wish Bastrop would get some better food options!!
VERY VERY disappointed in not only the srvc but also the food. Took almost 10 min for a server to come take our drink and appetizer order. Our appetizer which was finally brought out mayb 2 minutes b4 our meal was brought. Its evident that the appetizer was sitting somewhere bc it should hv bn hot (fried green beans) and was barely warm. The long haired wrkr brought out our food and I asked for a couple of napkins which nvr came. Our actual server nvr came to ck on us except when I waved him to bring our ck. My ckn salad had old lettuce browning around the edges. My husband found a long hair in his food. Our server apologized and asked if another plate needed to b made but my husband lost his appetite. When our server showed it to the wrkr that brought out our food, she basically shrugged it off (I watched). Guess we werent important enough. My husbands meal was taken off our bill. Weve bn there many times b4. Dont know if well b bck. Ugh😡
Always wonderful and water your mouth meals! Daily lunch specials served quick and reasonably priced. The fried pork chop was delicious! Came with mashed potatoes n white gravy, (my Dad had the black eyed peas and I chose the green beans)-they tasted homemade (not out of a can)- slice of halved toasted bread with butter and a good serving of cake.
Was VERY pleasantly surprised by this place. My mom and I were looking for a seafood place that served more than just catfish. We both ended up getting the jumbo fried shrimp, fries, and the veggie of the day. I got corn and she got black eyed peas. Everything was wonderful, including the chicken tender, fries, and green beans kids meal I got for my son. Service was GREAT, but they went above and beyond when my 21 month old son tripped in the parking lot and got a boo boo. Love this place, will recommend, and definitely will be back.
This hidden jewel in Bastrop was amazing. The mouth watering award winning chicken fried steak and the jumbo shrimp plate were to die for. Celebrating my mothers Birthday drinking the undescribal mango and strawberry margaritas on the rocks were so damn good I gladly paid the bill. Oh and the waitress I was feeling so good after the drinks I forgot to get her name but she literally took care of us like we were guests in her house. My daughter loved the sweet tea and my mother enjoyed the hamburger steak. The pasta was great also. I definitely recommend this place and will return on the weekend to drink and listen to the musical bands out on the patio.
We were in Bastrop visiting while staying at the Hyatt. We decided to try Grace Miller out because it seemed to be a local favorite. We went on 8/23 around 1 ish. Unfortunately we did not have a good experience. The waiter took over ten minutes to come to our table to get our drink order and brought back the wrong drinks. I ordered a BLT and there was no mayo on it, I had to ask several times for it and it was never brought out. The food was good but hopefully the service improves.
Okay, so the burgers are awesome. The venue is great for what it is. Still has that great small town atmosphere, indoor and outdoor seating, and out door live music on weekends. The staff is friendly, but,,, not attentive? Service is just a bit less than I would hope, but not bad by any means.
I love this resturant. I eat here everytime I come through Bastrop. I give it 5 stars for just about everything I eat. But tonight I had a ribeye steak. Im sorry to say it was terrible. The worst steak I have ever eaten. Will never order again, and feel like I threw $22 away.
My husband and I LOVED the chicken fried Steak, with the baked potatoes, and broccoli! Unfortunately our waitress Roxy was rude, got our order wrong, and never came back to check on us. We eventually requested a new waitress and she was amazing. Great personality and quick on her feet. Overall the best food I have ever eaten!!!
Excellent home-cooked style food. Delicious, juicy burgers, and very tender steaks. An array of desserts on display for single serve or by the pie. Portions are certainly plentiful for the competitive price tag you would pay at a chain. Courteous staff who kept up with our drinks and made sure we were well taken care of, and was NOT overbearing or pestering. We will definitely be going back for more.
Awesome little restaurant in downtown Bastrop. We had a great dinner here. They brag about their chicken fried steak, which I’ve heard is great-not just good, but we had other menu items that were also great. Very homey/kitsch decor and great service for our visit. Two thumbs up👍👍!
Horrible. I ordered the rosemary peach chicken, which was disgusting. The peach “glaze” just tasted like mashed up peaches in water. That’s not the worst part though. Two of the people I was with got the chicken fried steak that the restaurant is known for. One of them barely touched it, said it tasted off, so my mom and I each tasted the mashed potatoes with gravy and it tasted like straight up bleach! Our mouths started burning from it. My husband had noticed it too, but ate it anyway because he thought it was just his imagination (no, he shouldn’t have eaten it). We brought this to the attention of our server, and I guess the manager that was there, and they ended up determining that it was the gravy that had been cooked in a pot that had been bleached and not cleaned correctly. My husband ate his food, so I understand not wanting to comp his meal, but instead of immediately offering to comp the uneaten $12 chicken fried steak with bleach gravy, they offered to comp the $3 cup of soup my mom got, and there was nothing wrong with that. Finally, after a while, they comped the meal, but it should have been a no-brainer to not make someone pay for a meal that had been tainted with bleach. Never going back.
I have been searching for the best chicken fried steak for over twenty years. Today I found it. Talking to the lady in charge, she told me that they receive there meat twice a week from a cattleman in College Station. T he potatoes are good , the gravy is good and the turnip greens are really tasty.
W as s on that epic date with the Better half, Miy wife. Service was outstanding. Rest rooms clean and well kept. Amber our waitress is exceptional. They Chicken fried steak was off the hook delicious. Green beans were perfect. Mash potatoes are real and creamy. Everything down to the coffe ambience was great
Been coming here for the last few years and the food and service has been pretty good...My wife and I went for dinner there tonite and needless to say it was less than stellar the waiters and waitresses seemed to be very disorganized as we were more or less forgotten about.....
Old time Bastrop,TX decor updated seating since I was there last. The food is wonderful. Huge portions.I had to get a to go. Green beans were fresh. Chicken fried chicken was great!!! Mashed potatoes were over the top....great place. Have full bar now. Covered seating outside. Was a singer there very nice music. Was about 1.pm on a Saturday not super crowded. People were inside and out.Now the pies are in a class of their own. Yum!!!
Cozy place. Had a chicken breast, pounded thin, with a sweet peach and rosemary glaze/sauce, angel hair pasta ( THAT is delicious), fresh green beans with garlic butter Texas toast. The chicken was ok. The peach sauce could use some tweaks. I could have just made a meal out of the pasta and green beans alone. The white chocolate raspberry cheesecake was kind of a let down. Its regular tasting cheesecake, with what appeared to be mashed up raspberries in their own juice. Not what I was expecting. Past experience is that it should be way more syrupy, or at least thicker. My husband ordered the chicken fried steak, and it was burned on the bottom, fried in old grease. You could smell it for sure. He said it was all he could taste on our way home. Im sure we will visit again, and see if things improve.
Country fried steak is what I ordered, and it was delicious. I loved the flavored butter that was on the toast. A little different than plain ol toast. It comes with a piece of chocolate cake which is an odd choice but good. The bathroom is outside by the seating area in a shed type structure, no not like an outhouse. Its better though because the seating area indoors is small, so no one wants a bathroom in there. Parking for restaurant is along the side street.
Nice building and staff but the food is meh. Cold bacon on cold toast served with cold and flaccid fries. The burger looked good but it was thin and dry. My review really could just read average restaurant averagely averages average in an average way. They get three stars because the patio was dog friendly.
We arrived just before 6pm this past Sunday evening (late December), and were seated quickly by very friendly staff at the last open indoor table available. Subsequent guests were seated out on the patio. Our server was friendly and attentive, but was covering tables both indoors and out on the patio, so we did not see her very often. Once ordered, we had a LONG WAIT TIME FOR OUR FOOD to come out. Other tables around us were visually and verbally upset about having to wait so long for their food as well. I ordered the chicken breast with peach/rosemary glaze, with the garlic mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts. I was shocked that after waiting so long for my food, the plate arrived with ICE-COLD vegetables, and the luke-warm chicken breasts glaze being nothing more than mashed-up canned peaches mixed with RAW cold uncooked rosemary sprigs. It was like biting into an Evergreen tree on top of my chicken breast. Who the hell does that??? To be fair, the other guests in my party enjoyed their burgers and fries, and the cheese sticks were great! Our server removed the less than acceptable chicken dish from our tab and comped us an order of chips and queso (made with canned cheese). Overall, a very disappointing visit to what we had hoped would be a fun, tasty place to enjoy dinner.
Arrived at 6:20 on a Sunday evening, chose to sit outside where there was one other couple having their meal. Waitress brought us our drinks (waters) rather quickly and took our order. We sat for 40 minutes without anyone checking on us, refilling waters, or letting us know the status of our order. When the manager brought us our food, I asked if our waitress was okay, since we hadnt seen her in 40+ minutes. She let us know that our waitress was moved into the kitchen to help with the cooking. We ordered the fried shrimp, green beans, mashed potatoes with a side salad and the fried catfish, french fries, and brussel sprouts. It was my error not to read the reviews prior to going, I would have seen that they use vegetables out of a can. This is less than acceptable, there is very little nutritional value to vegetables out of a can, not to mention the amount of preservatives. The fried shrimp was soggy, as though it was either put in the deep frier prior to the grease being hot, or it sat in grease for an extra long time. The catfish was overdone. The house salad was served with peas (which I missed reading on the menu) and appeared to be all iceberg lettuce (again, zero nutritional value). Following our meal, we waited.... Finally I went inside to see about getting our check and discussing my concerns with our waitress (who was no longer in the kitchen) and the manager. They took the house salad off the bill and said I should come back again because there food really is excellent. Thanks, but no thanks. If you really wanted us to come back, you would have offered a gift card. This had such great possibilities as a small locally owned restaurant, but between the lack of service, the awful food, and the poor customer service, we will try other places.
Update: try the fried porkchop; it is prepared in a similar fashion to a chicken fried steak...Good stuff. Husband tried a hamburger and fries this time. If I had any room, I would have stolen one of his fries, they looked that good.Original: We like to go for the lunch specials; our favorite is the chicken fried steak. Most times our wait staff are quite friendly. Have taken out of town people here; you can go on from there to explore downtown Bastrop. Whenever the weather chooses to cooperate, we like to eat outside. We have experienced the live music 2x. The musicians do not seem top drawer but that didnt stop us from enjoying ourselves & the great atmosphere.Have 3 complaints: hate their Texas toast; Its covered in margarine and rarely hot & occasionally not toasted. The second is the 2 bite cake bits you get with the special. Im not fussed with the size; I shouldnt eat any. However the cake is always awful. 3rd is the outdoors necessary that I try Not to use.
I always love going to Gracies. This is small town dining at its best. The staff are friendly and down-to-earth. The food is mostly American comfort food (chicken fried chicken, anyone?), and theres often live music outdoors on the covered patio. If you are passing through Bastrop on 21 or 71, its easy to get to, theres lots of parking right behind it, and its right near the museum and shopping.
Grace Miller is a favorite among my family and friends. Home made cooking that would blow your mind, family atmosphere and a friendly staff. Their weekly lunch specials are the best if you get their in time, if not their menu has some thing for everyone. So sit back, relax and enjoy the eating experience. Oh and did I mentioned its worth the short wait time if you ever encounter having to do so!
Nice atmosphere, the interior is apt to being a little packed at peak times but the quaint outdoor area is covered and inviting, weather permitting. I myself adore the food, usually opting for the chicken fried steak but the burgers are nice aswell. The staff is cordial and prompt and this is often a restaurant I point visitors to.
My wife and I went to eat here two weeks ago, and wow, its good. THIS is southern cooking. We both ordered the chicken friend steak, and we both agreed it was the best chicken friend steak weve had in a while. My sides were green beans and mashed potatoes. I told my wife these are the kind of green beans my mom used to make. And she agreed, her mom made them the same way. They were very fresh and just had that taste of home cooking.I also had the mashed potatoes, which were surprisingly good. Just a hint of garlic. My wife had a baked potato and no complaints there either.Im not a big dessert eater, but we had the bananas foster cake, and it was really good too. This is a small restaurant (which were finding all Bastrop restaurants are), the service was a little cold when we got there, but did warm up by the end of our meal.Good food, cheap, quiet, we will definitely be going back.
The best thing about this place is obviously the food. Award winning chicken fried steak for 9 straight years says it all. Dont let that distract you from the rest of the menu though. Couple that with the atmosphere of the place, like an old time western diner, complete with travelers and regulars. Definitely stop here when you are in Bastrop. It is also a few steps from historical downtown.
Chicken fried steak great. Gravy, veggies and toast disappointing. Sunday 1:30 slow yet service even slower. The two tables seated after us were served 15 mins before our party of 8. They very much appeared to be regulars. Thanks for the reservations but meaningless coupled with lack of service.
Gracies is definitely one of the best Texas southern food restaurants I have ever been to. I had the chicken fried steak, it was so well cooked I cut it up with a fork. Veggies are real, not from a can. The fries were perfect. I will be back to try the rest of the menu.
We loved the food but if you are of any ethnicity other than white don’t go here. Every time we have ever came here we park right out front and someone never fails to spit on our car. My husband is Dominican and I’m a native to Texas. It hurts to know we don’t feel welcome around a restaurant we both love. Now that we have a son, we aren’t comfortable to go back. I don’t need my son experiencing racism when we are working so hard to make it non existent in America. The food here is pretty good. I’d give them 4 stars, except for their veggies because they are normally pretty bland and watery. But everything else is pretty good even if someone may have spit in our food, who knows.
Small rustic place with mostly outdoor seating. Beer and wine mostly. Small menu of pure-mixed drinks but they are pretty watery. The food used to be excellent but has gone downhill some in the last year. Family friendly. Often has live bands, mostly old country or old rock. Overall a decent place to spend a relaxing evening with your honey.
Yummy comfort food with cuisine containing the right balance of yesterday and today. The chicken fried steaks with garlic mashed potatoes were most delish served with fried green beans. Just plain good food. 0ur 2 year old didnt want to leave until the art was complete!
A nice place to work. Co-workers always helpful. Waitresses are clear as to what they need, which saves a lot of time. The food is great homestyle stuff, them rib sticking meals. Mashed taters with tater chunks, can you say Yum. Rib eyes just oozing delicious, and lest we forget the bright display case filled with desserts at center stage. I even heard a pretty good band. They serve til 9 most nights, a little longer on weekends. Access to free downtown parking, and yes , it is handicapp accessable by a ramp off the sidewalk. Come by and let Gracie fill yall with lunch or dinner. I think ya gonna like it.
Our mothers Day Disappointment! This place was the worse. The service was horriable not a friendly staff. Not to mention our orders were all screwed up. Our waitress was the worst ever she could not reamber who ordered what, took forever to refill our drinks and got the stink eye with an occasion noise flare, when we asked for something. The side salad was old lettuce with 5 sprinkles of seeds. Yes we did count 5. We were so freaken angry that what started out as a wonderful day ended horriable! We recommend you stay away from this place at all times but especially if you plan a special occasion treat for yourself or love one! Thanks Grace Miller for the unpleasant dining experince on what was suppose to be a nice special treat from my childeren.
Grace Miller Restaurant is a cute place with a nice ambience, and the wait staff were nice enough , but the food was abysmal. My dining partner had a hamburger, and proclaimed it the worst burger she ever ate. She was unable to finish it. It was a frozen meat patty with a stale bun, not fresh burger. My Tomato Basil soup was Campbells with some basil flakes sprinkled in. Not horrible, just bland, and certainly not home cooking. The worst thing though was the salsa that came with chips. Chips were fine but the salsa tasted and smelled rancid. The waitress agreed and took it off our bill. Another disappointing Texas dining experience. Is there any decent food outside of Austin?
My husband and I had lunch here today for the first time and we both loved it. The waitresses were friendly and the food was excellent. My husband got the pot roast and I got the chicken fried steak - best CSF I have had in a long time! The food was out within 10 minutes of us ordering it. My husband completely cleaned his plate. Then we ordered the peach cobbler with ice cream - another big hit with us! We will definitely be back every time we come to Bastrop!
I did a really awesome review for one of the waitresses because she had said she had gotten a bad one. Being in the industry I know how that feels. And it DOES HAPPEN to everyone no matter what. But the next time I went it there I had politely ask the same waitress to turn down the fan next to us because it was making my pregnant girlfriend sick(saying it was making her nauseas , reminding her of a strobe light) and she was so rude about it. And so was our waitress. I know its hot for them to run around in there with no fans, I get it but no need to be rude. Now I understand why she had gotten the bad review in the first place. But on a positive note the CFS is always the best! Great down home atmosphere
Well, we all met at the old home town of Bastrop. Our locals suggested we meet at Graces for lunch. Cant say much about the food, seemed very average to me. The BLT was good but not outstanding, the others ordered chef salad which came in a small bowl which I thought unusual. I guess the only complaint I have about the place was how slow it took to present an average lunch for five.
Oh my goodness Grace Miller! Truly delicious home cookin at its best. I had the shrimp plate. My husband had the Mahi mahi. These plates were so big and so tasty. There were 6 of the biggest shrimp Ive had in quite some time. I was getting full after the third one. The vegetables were very good. My husbands mahi mahi was awesome as well. We were both debating if we shouldve ordered a salad but after viewing some of the other plates and experiencing our own we wouldnt have had room for salad. I viewed a burger that was big and looking yummy. The pricing is most affordable for every budget. The atmosphere is beautiful. With occassional live music and a choice to dine inside or on the patio. Located in the heart of Bastrop with surrounding stores that all have that old town feel. The waitresses take care of you so well , we didnt have to ask for refills , they asked us. I seen desert available that looked just as good as the food but i was so full i would have bursted. My husband and i had to give a special thank you to the chef. The Grace Millers is a definite dining experience you have got to do , and more than once. Its the only place i want to eat at in Bastrop.
The waitress wiped our table with a dirty rag. When I told the waitress that the table smelled bad, she said, oh Im sorry I used the wrong rag. All I kept thinking was, what is that rag used for? Ordered the famous chicken fried steak, great chicken fry but they covered it with instant gravy. Black eyed peas had no flavor! Baked potato was obviously over cooked, left in oven too long. The butter was margarine. Wont be back! Also the menus were filthy!
Its been a couple of years and I can still remember the experience. We were a young couple and probably the only Hispanics that were there at the time. I didnt mind it until it took the waitress an hour to reach our table. Everybody receiving their foods, up and leaving, and us still waiting an extra hour in actually receive our food. Thats two hours mind you. Two whole hours to be attended and served. I got up, and never went back again.

2022-04-13Let’s start with the positive comments… to begin, Gracie’s is in a quaint little cottage on the edge of historic downtown Bastrop, with a waitstaff that were very friendly and welcoming. The food quality was an entirely different story on this visit, the one and only time I have been here. To set the stage, the iced tea was very cloudy and not fresh. It had a very bad taste and was undrinkable, I should have seen this a bit of a red-flag. But I was looking forward to a tasty home-style meal. I specifically ordered my entrée, chicken fried chicken, with the gravy on the side. However, when it was served, both the mashed potatoes and the chicken were smothered in an excess of cream gravy. It was like a good quarter inch thick on the chicken, easy enough to scrape off, but it did put a damper on the experience from the get go. The waitress stated the chef realized he did not meet the order but had her send it out to the table anyway without fixing it- this speaks volumes to their concern for quality which is essentially nonexistent based on the chef’s comment. As a rule, I do not send food back, you never know when you will offend a passive aggressive chef and end up with an illness :-). Just a smart play in my book. Moving on to the side dishes, the garlic mashed potatoes were cold, lumpy and flavorless with not even a hint of garlic present. The green beans, which were the only vegetable available at time of visit - were also cold and flavorless, in fact they were mushy and had tell-tale sign of over cooked frozen green beans that had been sitting for some time. Overall, I have to say I was very disappointed and can not recommend that people even bother trying this place - skip and go to the next option on your list. I probably will never return.

2022-05-22Man the reviews on this place were legit. Was super excited to try it out, I mean x amount of years best chicken fried steak in Bastrop, you have to come here right?Lets start off with this place is small. Not like on its cute and quaint, no man its tiny. They have a patio you can sit at that makes it a lot larger but this is Texas and summer. Ill take the somewhat air conditioned inside. It was a bit warm in there to be quite fair.To the food;Unfortunately I wanted meatloaf. But thats a weekly special only on Wednesdays. But wait how about the pork dish? Thats Fridays special. The pot roast? You guessed it another nights special. So here I am trying to decide what I want to eat since they have no website and no visible menu online (I fixed that for yall with photos). Went with the hamburger steak. Figured mashed potatoes, gravy, whats not to like. Apparently a lot. I am a fairly healthy person. I dont eat sweets but once a month, I rarely eat bread, and I dont like super salty food. That being said their mashed potatoes was void of any seasoning at all. The gravy which is normally salty everywhere on planet earth was also lacking salt. The hamburger steak? No seasoning at all. I used the salt and pepper shaker throughout the meal just to break the bland. My water weight tomorrow is going to suck but it needed copious amounts of salt.It wasnt particularly busy, but food seemed to take a while to come out. Our waitress was super new so there were some service things that will come with time here. Super nice too.I summarize; very meh for me. Wasnt what the build up online was about. But at least folks have a menu now. Youre welcome :)

2021-10-07Cool Texas style country food! This is a great little local restaurant that I highly recommend to travelers to stop by, the service was very accommodating and friendly and the restaurant was well kept and clean. The food also had a quality homemade taste and was very reasonably priced

2021-07-21My cream cheese burger with avocado and jalapeños was juicy and delicious. My husbands chicken fried steak was cooked perfectly. There is seating outside and the weather was perfect!! The flies, not so perfect, they brought their entire family to enjoy OUR food and drink.

2021-10-06The food was very good. The staff was engaging and provided excellent service. Appetizers included many fried things: including pickles, zucchini, green beans, and okra. I enjoyed my lunch of meatloaf, garlic mashed potatoes, and carrots. The iced tea was plentiful and good. I brought some cherry cobbler home.Barbara is the owner and Gracie was her grandmother.
