The Jalapeno Tree in other cities:
We have dined at various Jalapeño Tree locations that were very good. This one in Kilgore was by far the worst. The food (chicken enchiladas) were absolutely terrible. In addition, the waitress was not good at all. She would not bring items requested even after asking 3 separate times. Finally we just gave up. If there was a good note, the tortillas were very good (but we had to get up and get them ourselves because the waitress would never bring any of them as well).I would not recommend this location in Kilgore to anyone. Save your money and go elsewhere.
Had to take a star away today and was gonna take 2 but the ice cream machine is back. Several open tables with people waiting. I do understand if youre short staffed but when you post a sign that you are but have girls standing around behind the sign doing what?... Food was like they say, Crazy good but crazy high as well. Split fajitas for 1 with a bill of $22. Waitress was ok. No water refill and dirty plate we had to exchange. Still good food in the long run of things.
Kilgore, Texas location was terrible. So terrible that Im speechless. I hate to say this but the one and only time I visit here, if you were of a certain race, you didnt have to wait to be seated, if you entered the restaurant of a certain race, your wait time is 30 minutes to one hour. It seemed theyre hoping you would leave and many did. We ordered to go, only because we arrived to the town by 8sh. This location was still open. We traveled for 3 hours for a baseball tournament on the weekend.
Came here with my husband and two kids very friendly and clean place! The service was fast and the waitress was nice!! The food was delicious!!!!! Ive be coming back for some more food to try!! Also this is a texmex restaurant but food tastes like authentic mexican food!! Loved it!!!
Jalapeno Tree is great family restaurant. Servers are friendly and quick. Our drink cups were never empty. And the food has always been fresh and hot when it gets to our table, and ALWAYS soooooo delicious. Even the picky eaters enjoy their meals. Will continue to return time and time again.
Overall my experience at the Jalepeno Tree in Kilgore was good. Great service (server was Tanner) and the food was good. The complementary salsa and queso are tasty, and the frozen margaritas standard. I was impressed by the Chili Relleno as it was one of the better versions Ive had anywhere, however it could use some more spice beyond the poblano - Tanner hooked me up with some house hot sauce and it did the trick. I would recommend this location for Tex-Mex in Kilgore.
The food was amazing and the drinks were too!! No wait, friendly staff and our order was out within 10 minutes. The only drawback was that our waitress didnt come back to check on us so we had to keep asking a different waitress for more chips and sauce. Other than that I recommend this place to anyone that likes good food!!
They were excellent with the staff shortage they were experiencing. They did not overload the customers so the staff was stretched too thin. Our waitress was Madison and she was amazing!! We never had to ask for a refill of anything, it just appeared as if by magic. They had multi person tables, yet made you feel you were their first priority. Good Job, Madison and the whole crew.
This was the second time that our fajitas werent hot...warm, but not hot! Also, while my husband was in the restroom, he saw an employee use the urinal and then go back into the kitchen without washing his hands. We reported these issues to the mgr when she came by our table, and she said shed get right back to us. We never saw her again.5/8/22 UpdateService and food were outstanding today.
Love this restaurant, but this particular location is not up to par with the staff. After sitting for almost 10 minutes we has to ask someone if we had a server. He finally materialized and we were pretty certain he was high. We had to ask for chips and salsa, a staple that normally appears from heaven, lol. Drinks were not refilled and we didnt get checked on. Food was still good, though.
Stopped in at peak dinner hours on Saturday evening and the parking lot was full! We had a short wait for a table, maybe 10 minutes. Our server, Paul, was there to take drink orders as we were sitting down! The service was top-notch!! Our drinks were never empty, our chips and salsa bowls filled without waiting and the food was wondeful! I highly recommend you stop in to experience this for yourself! The Bo Diddley was a hit, AMAZING tequila cream sauce! El Dorado Jack Steak is a favorite! The Shrimp Tacos with mango salsa are a must try!
Dined here for the first time during Hurricane Laura evacuation. 2020 just keeps on giving...anyway, we had our family pet so we were looking for outside dining. Came up on Jalapeño Tree and we asked if it was okay for Cash, our dog, to sit on patio with us. They were super cool to us and our furry family member. Food was great, portions were large, ans Cash got fresh water. We were served by a sweet and attentive watress. Will definitely come back through again!
The food is pretty good but service wise its gone downhill the last few years. Last time we went to dine in they completely forgot my wifes food and brought everyone elses. Last time I ordered carry out they told me 30 mins and all together it was more like an hour or more, ordered take out this evening and when I showed up to pick it up 40 minutes later they forgot to even turn my ticket in. I guess its my fault for continuing to dine there and hoping the service improved.
We had a party of 9. Staff originally wanted to seat us at two different tables. After a little stern conversion about that development causing conflict in our group, we received accommodation. This establishment prices good reasonable for average folk. While one can order a more premium meal at close to $20.00, a person can eat well on the Create Your Own Combo portion of the menu with two items plus Spanish rice and choice of beans (refried, black, or charro) for right under $10.00. I had two tasty green chili chicken enchiladas, my belly informed me that I got good value for the money.Chips are brought immediately with two sauces. The green sauce is creamy, and the red sauce has a little fiery bite. Either would go well with a quality beer or one of the many flavors of margaritas.
First of all, I got a salad with Italian dressing. I got ranch dressing. Simple mistake. I ordered Shrimp enchilados. I got cheese enchilados, minus the shrimp. Then, She finally brought Me shrimp..... but was cold. Refill on My ice tea..... had to ask.Simple stuff I know. But little things add up.
There seemed to be some confusion as to which server was ours so we had 2 people coming up to the table. It sounds nice until theyre coming up every 2-3 minutes ago you cant carry on a conversation. They kept putting everything down within the babys reach (chips, hot sauce, hot plates, drinks). Every time we asked for anything there was a long wait. The food does not even compare to their competitors. Overall, theyre not up to par in the service or food area. They have a nice atmosphere, though.
This was my best experience here in the 11 years that we been here. I attribute this to our waitresses (Tracey and Christina), they were very attentive to our requests and friendly. My chicken fajitas were perfectly cooked and seasoned. The burrito that my wife ordered was yummy! The only recommendation that I would suggest is to invest in better seating.
It states delivery online and when I called to make an order or to see who does the delivery they shut me down.. When I asked if they dont deliver then why does it say it on the website the lady was just like I dont know anything about that. So I asked for a supervisor and when I was talking to him he hung up on me. My family and I are regulars there and there was no reason for unprofessional /rudeness.
Went to Jalapeño Tree and food is always good at this location. We were seated around the corner from the bar, which in the past has had bad service. Our server this night was top of the line. She was very attentive. Kept our drinks full and made sure we were well taken care of. We will definitely go back and see if we can find her again. Highly recommend this location now. They can get busy, but its worth the wait.
Great food and the best frozen margaritas in town. Theyre still wearing masks and not putting condiments or squeeze butter out, though. If the Texas Rangers can have 70,000+ on a daily basis without having Covid breakouts, J-Tree can take off the masks and return to Normal too.
Today was one of the best experiences Ive had at any Jalapeno Tree location.(Ive visited Kilgore, Carthage and Nacogdoches)The food was good, as well as the drinks. However, it was the service that blew my mind. Today, at the Kilgore location, Ms. Jenna provided an amazing experience for my fiance and I on the patio. We will be requesting her service from now on.
We went out for a family lunch on Sunday. Talked my family into Jalapeno tree because I can live on the green sauce. I had to meet a lady at 1 in kilgore so we went to this location. We got there at 12 and were sat by 12:15. We should have know it wasnt going to be a good experience due to the hostesses not acting like she really cared about us being sat.. she had a very bad attitude and you could just tell she didnt want to be there. We got chips right away but it took 10 mins for our server to get our drink order. We went ahead and gave our order at that time. We did not get our food till 12:50. My daughter and I were sharing fajitas for 2 and my husband had the Ranchero dinner. Our fajitas were sold and undercooked. The plate they were on was not even hot. I called the manager over to show him and was told that that is the way they are cooked but he could go put them on the grill for a little longer. We declined due to already running late. We picked through them looking for the cooked ones. My daughter didnt even finish the first one before she got sick. The manager did finally take the fajitas off after he saw that they were unate. I hate we had this experience as I love jalapeno tree but I dont think we will be back
Food was great, some of the orders wherent 100% correct but they where quickly fixed, it probably happens alot with the masks fries and rice. The tea however was horrible... and we go frequent enough to know its not normally like that.... not sure what was going on... they said they remade it and it was still off. Who knows. Service was kinda slow, especially on drinks.... (i went my entire meal without drinking anything because the tea was off and 2nd tea was off and didnt get the sprite until the food was gone... and we got our drinks almost at the same time as the food)but was friendly
Service bad, we did have a large group, 10 people. They seated 2 large groups that came in behind us. We had to ask them again to seat us. They had forgotten about us. Then they tried to seat 10 people at 2 little tables that would only hold 6. We had to tell them how to arrange the chairs and tables. We never got all of the food we ordered and everything that was fried was a dark brown fried in old grease, you could taste how old the grease was. We should have left, but had already wasted so much time we stayed. There are Tex Mex restaurants on every corner in East Texas for their food and service to be that bad. I hope they have enough desire to improve.
In the past I have not been a huge fan... just another Mexican restaurant in a long line of the tex-mex fare here in East Texast, however, i had the salmon with mango salsa and grilled squash. The salmon was not overcooked and dry and did not have the overpowering fishy flavor. I could have used a little more salsa, next time I will ask! The grilled squash was a little in the greasy side therefore I will ask for the steamed when I return. A definite return visit will be in the future
First time Ive ever seen one, my daughter and son in law took me there last night in Kilgore Texas. They have ample parking, a large dining area, both tables and booths. They can handle a large crowd without being cramped. Their menu has many choices and the prices are quite fair. Now about the service......the food is delicious and you wont leave hungry. Our waiter was very pleasent and proficient. Overall my experience there was very enjoyable. If youve never been there you should find one, if you have eaten there you should go again!
Had a particularly subpar experience at this location. Went to have lunch with my coworkers. The restaurant wasnt busy yet so we hoped we could get in and get out within an hour. Unfortunately we had to wait nearly an hour for our food, and one of the orders was wrong. The waiter was nice but he was very slow at getting back to us. Food was very good though.
Well the three of us stopped in to have a late lunch. The restaurant was very clean and we were greeted as we entered by the hostess... Promptly seated right at the table I wanted :) Service was prompt. Chips and yummy! Salsa galore.... My husband ordered the lunch chicken fajitas with a few changes(No fajita butter, no bell peppers and grill the onions well done). Jennifer our server was fantastic! Polite and delivered the fajitas just as ordered... YEAH Jennifer... I ordered the Del Rio Burrito with taco meat and half and half chili and queso on top.. I really enjoy the option in sides and always get the sauteed squash and carrots/green beans(If your a veggie eater these are both a must to munch) . Mom ordered The Arnold Schwarzenegger as per her Loved it! For sure she will order it next time... Brought half of it home for later. Of course we will be back. And requesting to be seated in Jennifers section. YUMMY FOOD! And GREAT SERVICE....
Never eaten at this location. Food was really bland. Had the Brisket Quesadillas. While I was happy with the portion size the brisket did not seem to be drained properly so it was a soggy mess. I guess all the wet washed the seasoning away because it had very little flavor.
It was the Kilgore,Tx location my wife also posted with pictures. the food took almost 1 hr to reach us, it was cold, mix matched cooked, some over cooked and some way under cooked. we didnt even eat but a few bites and asked for the ticket that the manager brought to us brcause the waitress only visited the table 3 times the entire time we sat at the table. We showed him the food a cut some of the price off the ticket so We just paid and left. this is not the first time this has happened at this location
Crazy good Mexican food is their slogan and I agree. I love good Mexican food and the Tree is my favorite go to place for it. If you havent tried Jalapeno Tree try them soon you will love it. Dont forget to get some soft freeze ice cream to top off your meal. Happy eating and God Bless.
Food was okay but the service was sub-par. Our server was slow to arrive and almost non-existent during the meal. Luckily, other servers took pity on us and helped us out. She was quick to drop off the check and retrieve the credit card, though. As a former server, I tip graciously. Not today, though. Sorry, Mary, I literally burned my fingers waiting on a plate.
The food was decent at best , however the waiter was the worst Ive had in a long time he literally spent more time fixing his hair than checking on us lol . Never refilled our glasses and misplaced my wifes order all together . We were only a table of 4 adults n 1 kid .
We had a group of 30 youth kids. Had to wait over an hour for tables even after saying they didnt have to be together. Once they seated us they said they didnt have a server yet so another 30 min to order drinks and still no menus (supposedly they were all being used). We got there at 7:20 & got food over 2 hrs later. The server did great but everything else was terrible!
Unfortunately, I am not able to rate zero stars which is what they truly earned. Please never go to this location! Drive to the one in Longview instead. We waited over 10 minutes for drinks and had to watch tables be seated after us receive their food. When we brought this concern up to our waitress she didnt care and continued to serve others food that had come in after us. The manager doesnt make rounds checking on the tables. I had to interrupt her giggle fest with the other lazy wait-staff to let her know how angry I was. I didnt give her the chance to speak. Im so disgusted with the way they run this restaurant. Ill be following up with upper management about our experience. I would be horrified about the way this restaurant is operated. I even talked to two different tables about how lousy the service was. We all sat there in disbelief how poor the service is. Im willing to the extra mile to help future customers not be treated the same.
Oh my God. I thought I had died and gone to Mexico at lunch . LMAO. This is the best mexican restraunt iv been to in a very long time. I loved every thing. The enterior. The chips were fresh. The salsa & cheese dip was great. My plate of fajitas was brought out pretty quick. The rice was good & refried beans were bubbling hot when my food was brought out. Every thing on my plate was so hot I had to blow on it a little bit before I could eat it. Lol. And my sweet tea was great. The waitress checked on me alot. And it was at a fair price. Ill diffenitly be back.
The new brisket quesadilla was very good. The service was somewhat questionable today. I asked that no sour cream be put on my plate but yet there it was. Was very slow and getting our meal. They no longer serve rice and beans with the quesadilla but they failed to let me know that when I ordered
Its my favorite TEX-MEX place to go eat. It was the first place my husband took me to try the TEX-MEX food. Usually the service is fast and good. Today it was not crowded and they take too long to get done with the order for two. A little disappointed. I will give four stars rating because Im not going to generalize the service through about 6 years since I moved to Texas.
Good food, service and location. Thats pretty much all you need for any food place, so this one gets top rating from me. Texas has no shortage of good texmex places. I have a few favorites I stick to normally, but was out of town and gave this one a shot. Very happy with that choice.
This good, average TexMex fare. Their beef fajita meat is wonderful. Their corn tortillas are good too. I like the fact that you get free ice cream. I make sure to get it both going in and leaving. The only reason I only gave it three stars is that its simply good, not great. Service could be better also.
I was very disappointed with my room, stayed here before in the same room and it was nice, this time I had to clean everything in the room, dust everywhere, the light switches have dirt and other stuff on them, the tub still had soap scum on the tub where you put your soap at,the TV table and the other table had greasy rings on them...lets just say i had to clean the room thank goodness I brought antibacterial wipes..
Used to love this place when I lived in Kilgore. Came back for my wife’s birthday and service was terrible. Had to ask for the same things repeatedly since they kept forgetting them. Food was not good. Love the tortilla maker though. Found it disturbing that there was a chip inside the guacamole dip when it was “new.” And the ice cream station was a crazy mess with several cones (more than 10) all on the tray.
Worst experience I have ever had here!!! The waiter was completely unaware of what was going on!!!! Ordered some queso, didnt inform us that there was more than 1 type of queso!!! Ordered the brisket quesadillas, never informed us that rice and beans werent offered with this plate!!!! Had to ask another waitress for refills on the drinks!!! Sat the receipt down on the table without even asking if we wanted anything else, which we did!!! Ordered 2 sopapillas, and waited over 30 minutes for those!!! He did apologize for those taking so long to make, but that was the 1 thing that was out of his control!!!!
The staff needs a pay raise to improve morale I guess. I felt like the only happy person was the guy who just watched his child delivered. Anyways, I got the ultimate fajitas priced at dinner price on a lunch plate. Overall I hope this non detailed review grabs a little attention of the staff. The food is excellent. The green sauce is bomb. Buuuuut idk bout servers.
When my mom and I went to the Jalapeno Tree, we went up to the desk to get on and this girl wrote down out or table # and then we waited 20 minutes and everyone else even the people after us had got tables so this girl came up to us and asked us what we were doing and we told her waiting on a table she looked at the chart and she said that the girl that took our table # hadnt wrote down our name so we had to wait another 30 to 40 minutes just to get a table then after we were seated it took another 10 to 15 minutes to order our drinks then it took another 40 minutes to get out food. I hope next time I go i can write a better review.
Service was slow. Food was slow. And the server with a manbun just couldnt be bothered with helping anyone. If he had to live on tips alone he would be starving and homeless. He was just a straight up first class a-hole. Dont know his name but he was working night of 3/15/2019. IF we were to come back I would walk out rather than to have him as our server.
Prices keep going up but the food is still inconsistent. We always get a full order of fajita nachos which is enough to split. Sometimes we get a normal amount of meat and sometimes we get a tiny portion of meat. And the way the meat is cooked is hit or miss. (Sometimes cooked through and sometimes really pink. Has nothing to do with how busy they are. I tried to give them that much but i just cant). The tortillas are made on site and the green sauce is really good. The hot sauce is meh.
Lived in East Texas several years ago and Jalapeno Tree was just so-so. Just moved back to Kilgore and was blown away by the food. This is Tex-Mex at its very best. Every dish is prepared with care and the meats are marinated and cooked to perfection. The margaritas are always perfect and the place is always spotless. Great bar too and tip top service. Whoever is managing the place is doing a fantastic job. Destiny was our last server and she was excellent.
Three words or ok maybe four, green sauce, butter, salsa and all you can eat chips served immediately when you sit down. Need I say more?! You can make your own of my favorite before you walk out the door too, frozen yogurt cones!!! The food is forever amazing and the kids will always want the cheese bread bowl (its only like five dollars, filled with cheese,in a fresh made bread bowl. Btw,how do they make a bowl with a top that still fits out if bread and how does it always come out golden perfection?). Its inexpensive, not to be mistaken with the word cheap so its affordable, like seriously! Thats a huge deal for parents whod like a break from cooking once at least every two weeks or ladies and gentlemen who cook every meal or they dont eat.... Its not so extreme on the prices that you cant afford to look at the menu. One order of fajitas seriously feeds two people who can put away four peoples food. On fajitas,Im confessing, I can put away two peoples huge serving size but you get enough to do that on one platter. Youll have to see it to believe it. Its tons of meat, both grilled chicken and beef if youd like or you can choose to get only one meat but its still piled on . Each place ive mentioned today, sonic, whataburger and jalapeno tree are known for huge serving sizes and I could swear lately the prices seem less. I know Im not loosing my mind. Its,like only fifteen to twenty bux for two with extra stuff and large drinks at those places. I swear restaurants are going down on prices or something. I was paying almost twenty for me to eat at most places out in the world only a year ago. Ok ok ok Im done thinking out loud.... I hope this helps you decide where to go.
Horrible service. Took too long and had to leave before getting our food (people who had come in after us had gotten food and already finished eating). We explained we only had an hour for lunch before ordering and were told it wouldnt be a problem. Management did not offer a discount or anything. Finally, just asked for our money back. Will not be going back.
The table that was seated after us received our order. We had to ask twice for tortillas then they brought us three tortillas ufor a table of seven. They couldnt get our order right. We were seated at a table too small for seven people. Wondering why I ever come back to this place.
Worst service. Waitress just took order and left. Never came to check on us. We were out of everything. When I spoke to Manager she didnt try to please us. She just wanted to shove our food in a to go box. No one said SORRY. This is the 3rd time the service has been horrible. Never will return.
My family and I enjoy our experience at the Jalapeno Tree in Kilgore everytime we go. The food is amazing. The customer service is always outstanding. I also like to call and get to go others. The staff is always friendly on the phone and the food tastes just like we there in the restaurant. The Jalapeno Tree in Kilgore is a place I reccomend to everyone who wants to find a great place to eat in Kilgore.
The hostess was extremely rude to the three little old ladies in front of us and then she started bad mouthing them in front of us! She needs to be fired. We started to just leave but we had been on the road for hours and were hungry. Also the place was filthy. We will NEVER come back here again. From mow on we will go to Pasados!
They seemed to smother all the plates with the same sauce, which is overwhelming and can not taste the food, you might as well just put a bottle of ketchup on everything and then overcharge people, the portions of protein are very small compared to the rest of the plate
I wish there was a 0 option because a one is too high.. just had a horrible customer service experience with the employee at the bar. She didnt even acknowledge my presents for 10 min then she got my gift card.. didnt say thanks, didnt give me a receipt, got an attitude when i asked for one so i just walked off and because of her I wont be back.
This is my extended families favorite Mexican restaurant in East Texas we go here anytime we have family coming in from out of town because their food and service is so wonderful they treat us like family every time we go in and theres a extra bonus of getting an ice cream cone on the way out for free love this place highly recommended it

2022-04-11I have now been to 2 jalapeño tree restaurants and I have found them both to be very good. Had a couple of different plates the food and everything on all the different plates we have had has been great. They have a huge selection of food and options and the quantity size for each plate is humongous of what I have seen so far.The wait staff has been good but could be much better. I understand like many other restaurants they are suffering from a wait staff shortage and thus creating Mini issues that could otherwise be avoided.Did not remember seeing any covid-19 precautions in place and dont worry called theyre wearing any face masks either. Wait staff was very friendly and helpful when they were there and able to serve you.I will definitely plan on returning to the jalapeño tree 4 very good Mexican food. The wait time sometimes to be seated seems to also be an issue as they dont over seed for the wait staff. Understandable.

2022-05-10When ordering steak fingers, is it too much to ask for the get all fresh steak fingers? Not 3 old ones and 2 fresh ones? Why not just drop to order if I have to wait 10 minutes for my order anyways.

2022-01-18Went here on amazing recommendations. I vote it a 5: Get the beef fajitas with the house made flour tortillas and leave a very happy person!

2021-01-22They dont place you directly beside another occupied table... Which is nice. The dinners were good. Service was pretty good. Waiter didnt come back and ran out of chips and drinks and forgot the water at the beginning. I got a chicken taco salad which was slightly overcooked. The beef enchiladas were really good. Definitely will come back.

2022-06-07Long wait, plenty of tables open , keep hearing from Host that they where short handed so this explains the long wait.Very unorganized, several standing around with the host who could be helping Clear tables and seating people.Food was good, took 15 minutes to get order of drinks in and again where short handed. Then once order was put in it can fairly quickly and was good but still had issues getting refilles and the waitress seamed upset that we want drinks. So food good serves bad and management needs to improve conditions and help work the floor them selves if its that short handed.

2022-02-26Ordered drinks. Then a few minutes later ordered meal. Meal came after almost 30 minutes, one order had tomatoes on dish after requesting no tomatoes (diner allergic to tomatoes). 2nd diner sent food back because the nachos plate was so full of grease the nacho chips were as soggy as wet washcloths. Ordered enchilada dish in place of nachos with double beans and no rice. Still no drinks. Enchilada dish came with much more rice than the other two items. Got up and after standing for a few minutes at the front of the restaurant I was asked if I could be helped. I asked for information concerning our drinks and returned to our table. Two diners finished their meals when we got our drinks. I hadnt finished because they needed to make a new order due to nachos swimming in grease. Waitress was polite. Could have been more forthcoming with drinks though.

2022-04-02Fajita steak meat is really good. Chips crispy and delicious. Staff very attentive. I like my drinks a little stronger so if you do to maybe get a double shot in the margarita.

2022-06-28Worst experience ever! Went there for lunch today with husband and 3 small kids. Waited 10 minutes for a booth. Waitress spilled part of our drinks and had to remake them. Never offered any refills. Ordered tortillas 3 times and finally had to get them to go since we didn’t get them with our chips/salsa. Waited for ever on the waitress to take order and on the food. My sons taco was wrong, manager came over to make sure he wanted a cheese taco and explained what it was. Yes we knew what it was, we ordered it off the kids menu! Just a horrible lunch experience and they were not even busy! Will not be back to this location. Too chaotic, too slow, unfriendly, and food was just mediocre. Don’t waste your time or money.

2022-06-25We order online and arrive at the time they say to pick up. I have to wait 15 min atleast everytime. We also order the same thing everytime and the sizes of the sides differ each time. Dont get me wrong. I like the food. Just needs a little more consistency for me to give 5 stars.
