My buddy and I came in from hunting. Stopping here on our way back to San Antonio. Everything, the food, the service, and the decor was great. A minor issue with the outdoor chairs. They are designed for kicking back with a cold one. Have to sit on the edge of the chair to eat your food over the table. The other not so minor issue and the reason for -2 ⭐. It took 90 minutes to get our food. 1.5hrs we went in wanting breakfast left having brunch. At least the coffee was good while we waited.6/26 - food and service was fantastic. We got our orders within about 10 minutes. Asked about drink refills multiple times. Cant wait to go back
Great atmosphere and foodThe Ridge is a fantastic place to stop off for a meal or snack, and to buy locally made artpieces, souveniers, as well as an assortment of gardening supplies and plants.Service is excellent, as is the quality of the food on offer. Prices are a little higher than average, but well within reason, given the excellent quality of whats on offer.Pro-Tip: The homemade ice cream is outstanding.
I’ve lived here for almost 7 years and I finally made it out to the cafe at the ridge! The fried green tomatoes and jalapeño cornbread was 🔥 & our server Jenna was great. Also a bakery and cool gardens on the property. We even spotted some turkeys, so yeah I’d say it was a wild night
My wife and I did a two day trip out to the Texas Hill County from our home in The Woodlands. Our primary destination was the James Avery compound for a few new pieces of the best jewelry in the world. The local girl helping us recommended the Café at the Ridge located just up the road for lunch. Best recommendation ever! Our visit wasnt just to a country café with amazingly great food; it was a unique experience that included a beautifully landscaped outdoor area, a bakery and a garden nursery. What a surprise find.We will definitely make the five hour drive again just to experience The Ridge Marketplace again and again. It was that good!
We had a great experience here today. The service was great amd the food was amazing! Were a family of 4 and everyone found aonething the liked. Today we had the pot roast, salsberry steak, chorizo quiche, and kids burger and fries. All around amazing homestyle cooking. The atmosphere was homey and inviting.Walking around outside afterwards was a much needed bonus as we were all stuffed. The kids played checkers and tic tac toe while we walked arou d to look at the very cool nursery. All in all a great experince and we will definitely coning back.
Went for an overnight stay in Ingram and my wife and I found this restaurant in Kerrville. The price was right, the staff was superb and the outside area was like a small oasis. My wife ordered the bone in pork chop with vegetables and sweet potatoe fries and I ordered the chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes and fried green tomatoes. The portions were very generous and we both left extremely full and satisfied. We will definitely be back when we are in the area again.
All I can say is WOW! I was the wedding planner for a wedding on Saturday, June 20th and they selected Cafe on The Ridge to do their wedding cake. The team that delivered were efficient, on-time and very polite! The cake was GLUTEN FREE and was easily of the best tasting wedding cakes Ive ever had! The cake was beautiful! During clean up, everyone was eating the left over cake - not letting one single piece go to waste! Would highly recommend them to anyone for bakery needs.
We always have good food here. I think Steak Night on Wednesday is my favorite. It is a different steak each week and it is always good. The staff is amazing. Chloe and Brittany are amazing. Chloe was promoted to manager but still works the floor sometimes and is a sweetheart. The atmosphere is great and relaxed the food is great. Check this place out especially if you have gluten allergies they have tons of gluten free options for you. Even dessert 🍨!! 😉Enjoy!! We do.
Granted the time at which we had come here was Mothers Day, the service was unforgivable. My family and I had ordered and waited in the heat for over an hour. Also, our server seemed to have an aggravated tone, whilst other servers around us seemed somewhat pleasant. We understand the heat and the busy day, but other than the time we ordered our drinks/meals, our server had come to check on us once in 1-1½ hours (this was when we had decided to leave, thats when he came to check on us). We then were offered a seating inside after placing our to-go order. Ended with a burnt to a gravel-like crunchy burger and stale fries, same with my brother except his was burnt and cold. I could excuse almost everything except the food. Burnt black on one side with no toppings either. If it takes you over an hour to cook my food there is no excuse, especially if its a burger of all things. I do think the experience could have been better if it were any other day, but it wasnt. Arrived at 12:50pm, left around 4pm. Do not recommend.
What a wonderful experience! We went for my father-in-laws birthday. The food was good, the service was great, the ambiance and overall experience was fun, warm, and friendly. They have a great variety of plants to choose from, a great menu of comfort foods, and a neat little couple of gift shops. The homemade cookies are like nothing youll find at the store and delicious! The only downside was it was a little breezy the day we went but thats no fault of the Ridge. There is a nice little view to the south and the drive is pleasant.Hope to return again!
April 2021We dined at the restaurant and strolled the grounds.Great food (separate review) and an amazingly imaginative venue and grounds this place offers. Ideal for events of all sorts.Make time in your day or your trip to stop by and have a bite and walk the property. Also there is a gift shop and garden center incorporated into the site. The wide selection of plants made me yearn for my garden (recently sold our house).Do stop by. Theres much appreciate there.
We were there on a Tuesday evening and they really seemed to be struggling. Waited 20 minutes for water to be brought to table and close to an hour for our food. Some of our food was cold and not up to the high standard that we have seen previously. The waitress complained to us about how busy she was. That was a bit of a turnoff. We wont write them off yet as this is the first time weve not had a great dining experience. Hopefully it was just an off night. It is a beautiful setting with indoor and outdoor seating options.
Food was okay, but not worth waiting 2 hours for! Was there Friday at 1: 2:17 minutes total time. 15 minutes for waitress to take order, 50 minutes later appetizer arrived. 45 minutes after that meals made it to table! Looked to be only 3 kitchen staff, and 8 or 9 wait staff
We had heard so much about this place but it was some what of a disappointment. We ordered drinks and it took 20 minutes, then our food order took a hour and the resturant wasnt that busy, food was so-so for the price we paid. The grounds were absolutely beautiful and we (6 in our.party) all had the same impression,we May go back.
My wife and I are from out of town. We were visiting our in-laws that recently moved to the area and they took us to The Ridge Marketplace which has a GREAT Cafe. The food and service was absolutely fantastic! There is also a great outdoor area that our 2 year old loved to explore. And he loved watching Nathaniel feed the chickens!Thank you all for a great breakfast!
We made a reservation and expected to wait. However, we were the only table placed in direct sunlight to the point most of my party was sunburned after. We were there almost 3 hours just to eat and waited at least 30 mins for drinks. Over an hour into the wait we were allowed to move over an unused table umbrella for my daughter who was down to her diaper and being shaded with a menu due to severe heat intolerance. The food was served warm but was either too salty or had no salt.
Took an hour and a half to get two orders of quesadillas. Then they gave our food to another table that didn’t order quesadillas, then that table started eating the food they didn’t order? Used to love this place decades ago before it was”the ridge”, now it’s just full of rude people who can’t do their job correctly.
I thought this place was amazing, especially if you sit in the garden area. Beautiful grounds with flowers and butterflies flying around. The only recommendation is that they offer brunch options. I was disappointed to find out they didn’t have any breakfast dishes available after 11am on a Sunday. The burger I ended up ordering had an egg on top lol. The food was great.
This place was about 4-5 miles off the highway and worth every mile. I had the best fried chicken sandwich I’ve ever had. My wife said her burger was one of the best as well. The cowboy cookie in the front is a must. I would highly recommend this spot. Great food, good prices, and a friendly staff.
We made a reservation for a small 80th birthday dinner for 7.We made it at the cafe because they have an extensive menu and The birthday girl has limited meal options.Well, the food was great, the waitress was wonderful and they were ready ahead of time for us. The only problem was we were all too full to eat the beautiful gluten-free cake we ordered.
We were there for the first time, but it will certainly not be the last time, even if it is about a 45-minute drive. We enjoyed the ambience, and the food. One minor point: my Reuben was slightly on the dry side. What we especially liked was the very friendly and attentive but unobtrusive service. Our waitress was all we would have wanted. She and/or the kitchen respectively timed the courses perfectly. And that is something I often had reason to complain about in way more expensive and upscale restaurants. Not so here. We were not rushed at all and had time enough in between the courses.I can highly recommend this place.
We stopped in with the kids last weekend and loved the Cafe and the Gardens. We grabbed a couple drinks and wandered the property before sitting down for dinner. We loved that there was a play area for the kids with checkers and a see saw. The dinner was spectacular and the service was great too. There was a band setting up to play as we left. We will definitely return.
Love the food, the people, and the ambiance! Lots of comfort food and they do a great job with their fried foods. Hubby loved his chicken fried chicken and the onion rings! I had some of the best fried green tomatoes Ive ever had! Then you can go outside and burn off some calories walking through their plants and trees for sale.
It was our first visit. Outstanding!!! Service, atmosphere, food, beer & wine selection all of it! They have some great events! Movie night for the kiddos, & they eat free! All sorts of cool ideas, dont miss the amazing homemade desserts 🍦🍩🍧 the gift shop is way cool, also the garden has lots of great helpful options!
The location and grounds are so beautiful and well taken care of. I was excited that maybe we had found another out-of- the-way gem to add to our list of favorites. We were so disappointed that our food was average and the service was terrible. We did not get all the food we ordered even though we reminded our waitress, and we waited a long time for drink refills. We finally left even though we were still waiting on another refill. Im guessing that many people have a great experience here, but given how bad ours was, youll have to take your chances that the service and food will be hit-or-miss.
The servers are prompt, curteous and attentive. The food is mediocre. The desserts were very good. The full portions are extremely generous. The atmosphere is very casual. They have various deals during the week and provide specials and entertainment for children. On weekends the back room seating requires reservations thanks to live music. It does deserve a second visit. The bakers are very friendly and helpful. Pay them a visit.
I want to live here! This place is so amazing. The foods is fantastic and the service is so good. Friendly staff, smells of fresh baked goodies wafting through the air. A feeling of being home and in a mystical land of peace at the same time. I had the biscuits and gravy and it was so good. Perfect portions, great prices, adorable decor. Clean bathrooms and the grounds around it are so inviting. Walking around looking at all the pants and outdoor decor could take a day. I would bring my sleeping bag here and just stay forever if they would let me! I highly recommend stopping by.
A great stop for a motorcycle ride in the Hill Country. I had the cowboy cheesecake and a cup of coffee.Sin on a plate! Staff was courteous and friendly, Brooke was my waitress and was attentive and very helpful. Facilities were clean. Lots of smiles by all the employees, they definitely like their jobs.
The atmosphere is awesome and comfortable. The staff were polite and the service was fast. Our food was at our table in no time at all and it was delicious. Perfect for a couples lunch, birthday meal, etc. Outdoor seating is pet friendly and they even offer a water dish for your fur baby.
Fantastic place! Food is excellent and service is always great and very pleasant!P.s. had friends out to our place in Doss, they stopped off at our advice on their way back into San Antonio. Spoke with them the other day, and their exact words were...hey we need to schedule another trip out to you place so we can stop back off atThe Ridge. Keep it up, you all are doing a fantastic job!
Wanted something light so I ordered the Quiche. Daily quiche was the Denver quiche and it was fresh and hot and delicious. I opted not having sides with it and the waiter took the sides off the price. We all had the gluten free carrot cake which was also delicious. Walked around and truly enjoyed the backyard garden, gift shop and chicken coop! Will go back!
We had a great experience dining at the cafe. The ambiance at the cafe and the attached garden is great, the service was friendly and attentive, and the food was excellent. We missed out on trying the cinnamon rolls, but tried several cookies, including their cowboy cookie. A revisit will definitely be in or future.
Food and service was mediocre at best. The only reason this gets 3 stars is the atmosphere. Its beautiful in the hill country, especially so at the ridge. The service was slow and strange. Although my husband was quite pleased with his chicken fried steak, the rest of us (all 7 of us) were less than enthused about our various meals.
The food here is always really good, but they need to make some staff changes. Im not sure if it was the floor manager or the kitchen staff, but it took over an hour to get our food. There also were only 3 other tables who had the same issue. After the first table complained the manager completely disappeared leaving the poor server to fend for himself. As someone who has worked in the restaurant business I know how frustrating that can be. On the bright side I do recommend anything from their bakery its all fresh made and very good!
God has blessed the, Texas Hill Country, with this rather hidden gem. The Ridge, really does feel like youve entered into the most nurturing, whimsical, delightful, creative place that surprises! Such craftsmanship with endless detail and delights to discover. My hubby and I have been many times and its always like a brand new welcome mat, as their grounds and porch change with each season or holiday. The food, never dissapoints. The staff will make you feel like family. Order the chicken fried chicken with a loaded baked potato, salad, and dont forget dessert from their very own bakery. I never leave without a couple of loaves of the bread and theyll slice it if youd like. The discount that comes with your meal receipt makes it a must to visit the charming gift shop! Ill leave it there, as I wont spoil any more of what there is to discover....just go! Live music on Friday and maybe Saturdays, too. Open on Sunday, too for gathering your family together! Like I said, this place pulls your soul back together and Im so grateful to the folks who make this place happen.
I cannot even begin to tell you how amazing our experience was for Valentines Day Friday night 2/14/2020. It was a very special occasion and Katieann made the night amazing for us. She created an unbelievable romantic area for my proposal. Above and beyond my expectations. The music and food was off the charts. The wait staff was friendly and accommodating. The manager always made sure things were perfect for us. We have been countless times for the food and atmosphere and had a few Valentines dates there as well. But this time was an amazing experience!!!! Thanks to the entire staff, but a heartfelt thank you to Katieann for putting her heart in to our perfect night.6 STARS!!!!
I work in a in customer home service field and Ive had multiple customers tell me I need to visit this place. And Ive driven by it countless times and always see people here. NOW I understand why. If your a senior. Have kids with you or just a normal night out you really should consider this location. Theres so much happening in this one location. And they have a functional website which I always like before I commit to showing up in person. In about everything I look for in a location they have. Besides fast serve times. If you choose this location for a meal be willing to wait. But Id say it was worth it
What a great cafe in the hills! The garden is outstanding and the view is just enough to make it worthy of the very short drive from Kerrville. The menu has just the right number of options for home style fare. Our childs burger was hand-pressed and cooked just right. My pulled pork had great flavor, and the wheat buns were fresh. Solid beer and wine selection, with hopes that they are adding additional local options. Everything was clean and fresh, including the restrooms. And at the same time, the decor is rustic and worn with a casual atmosphere. We were lucky to have had the opportunity to enjoy live music by Mr. & Mrs. Roberts. The staff brought the whole experience home with a warm welcome and outstanding service.
This is a one of a kind place tucked off in the beautiful Texas hill country. Lovely place to have a quick bite or to hang out and enjoy all they have to offer. The cafe, bakery, nursery, and a very interesting little outdoor area are sure to have you coming back. If that isnt enough then maybe the outdoor entertainment and a cup of coffee will do the trick. This is one of my favorite hidden gems to visit when I travel down to see my family. Oh, and they have amazing Gluten free options available.
Nice place with good food and table service. Do not go if theres over 6-8 cars out front (unless youve got hours to kill). The kitchen is painfully slow and cannot handle over 8 or 10 tables at a time. I can drive to the Longhorn in Harper, eat, and drive back quicker than I can get food served at the Ridge. Good beer, though!
Went primarily to visit the nursery. I wanted a particular native tree thats hard to find in San Antonio. They had half a dozen of them! Employees are friendly, and helped me get the tree to my car, even though the tree wasnt all that big. Wish I could have spent more time. Also visited the bakery, and brought pastries back home to the family. All agreed these were scrumptious!
We have always loved Cafe at the Ridge, but the last several months has been a slide into mediocrity. We typically eat here 1-2 times per month and usually bring out of town guests here. Unfortunately, several times lately theyve been out of key ingredients or sides (like fruit and french fries). Theyve been out of desserts and the service has gotten slower. Its been sad. To add insult to injury, our kids always loved playing in the gardens but the last two times weve been told that kids are no longer welcome in the gardens. Time to take a break and maybe theyll get their act back together.
I had the Philly Cheese steak on a jalapeno-cheddar sourdough roll and my wife had the Pulled pork on the same roll. Both were excellent. The cheese steak had to be the tenderest I have ever had. I like that I could choose my cheese and not a canned sauce. My wife said that her pulled pork was great and the sweet potato fries were the best shes ever had. Weve been here before and have never had a bad meal. Highly recommend it to anyone and the prices are very reasonable too.
Shared lunch today with five friends. My blackened catfish was delicious. Loved the spinach and green bean sides. All my friendswere happy and loved the menu plus their lunch choices. Such a fun lunch with great food and lovely friends. Then we got to shop the gardens! Yea! We will be back and refer friends.!
Food and service were good. Friendly and helpful staff. Bakery too, had my first Buttermilk Pie. Migas were good and, with included sides of pancakes and potatoes, very filling. Nice views, pleasant drive there. Outside porch dining is dog-friendly. One of few Kerrville places open Sunday AM for breakfast. Newly renovated interior with lots of beautiful wood is very nice. Would go again.
A true Hill Country experience... The homestyle meals are tasty and the desserts are delicious! The bakery makes all the breads and desserts served in the restaurant. Amazing decor inside and out... and the gardens are a great place to find inspiration for your own outdoor space!! The Ridge is one of our favorite local places to take our out of town guests!
The food was amazing! Although it took awhile for it to be made, because they make it from scratch there. At the adorable gift shop in the back I found cardigans, ponchos, jewelry, stuffed animals, little Knick nacs, etc. The plant nursery is pretty, and there are some interesting plants there. Around the back of the restaurant there are chickens where they lay eggs, and a chicken condo. They also have a popular seesaw by the chicken condo.
Great oasis in the country! Friendly service, excellent homemade food, reasonable prices, primo lemonade! Best of all, we could eat with the dog on the small porch, which worked out perfect, in spite of the flies. I love a place that offers my dog water before I even ask! Drive the 4 miles from I -10 if youre passing through...worth your time!
Cannot emphasize how great this place is. Besides excellent service , friendly staff and owners, the food was outstanding. And the exterior gardens were still decorated from Christmas. Would recommend if this is only place you can visit besides The Coming King garden.
Really good food really good experience really extra friendly staff and just overall a very nice place to eat and visit and they even have outside outside Boutique and a little chicken farm I was able to eat breakfast the get the outside scenery and buy a Christmas gift for my wife all in one place
Awful service , rather non existent. I went there for breakfast . We were seated after waiting 5 min or so while they discussed as to where we were going to be seated. Seated at the back at a rather empty restaurant. Server Trinity could not care less , coffee was way too bitter , took our order and about 20min later someone from the staff ,announced that since they had a propane leak in the kitchen, if you did not get your food by now , you were not getting so better leave.... and we left never to return again.
Just ate there this Friday and was so disappointed. This used to be one of my favorite places to eat in Kerrville. The mashed potatoes had a strange taste that is so unusual. The fried green tomatoes had so much breading, I had to search for the tomatoes. I did tell the waitress when she asked about my food and her response was oh, sorry! The quality of the food has definitely changed in the last few months. I dont think I will be going back.
Nothing like The Hill country Fall experience. These little spot is nestled in the hills of kerrville with a LOVELY ATMOSPHERE. The Chocolate Truffle pie is to die for. Gluten free bakery treats, good southern hospitality. I loved the gardens and the quaint down home feel
Always fresh and delicious. Reasonable prices, cool interior. There is usually something going on the weekend (live music, movies under stars...). We always walk around after were done with a cookie and look at the gardens and say hi to the chickens. Definitely worth checking out
Here for lunch. Admittedly crowded so waiting list. Said 15 minutes but 35 after 2 inquiries on my part. First the staff wanted to take drink orders first then food. Luckily we knew what we wanted so didnt wait more for a food order. Staff pleasant but too few for the number of patrons wont come again on satuSatu for lunch. Now an hour and no salad for 3 people. We finally got our salads to go. No excuse for salad order to be so katl. Definitely dont come here unless you have hours to wait. We just wanted lunch not bakery not garden shopping. Just got food to go after 1: 30 hour wait. Manager was rude and entire operation chaotic and disorganized. 2 salad and one wrap and we had to take our order to go.
12/12/2020 We had such an awesome time today with our grandkids, the Grinch and Cindy Lou Who were “ON POINT”. Grinch played hide and seek with all the kids and all we could do is stand there and laugh. I think the Grinch was having more fun than the kids! And Cindy Lou Who was guiding my granddaughter holding hands. Soooo precious. We definitely made lot’s of memories today. Thank you “The Ridge” for making today extra special.
Just found this place about 2 weeks ago......I was amazed there is someplace like this in the Kerrville area I didnt know about. Food was excellent, had a fresh grilled burger on a homemade sourdough bun with sweet potato fires. My friend got an order of fried green tomatoes, havent had those since I use to go to grandmas house during the summer. Man, brought back some good memories and also a smile on my face cause they were so good. We both had a different dessert and shared with each other. I had Key Lime parfait and she had Coconut Meringue pie. Both were great - I LOVED the Key Lime!!!!
We stopped into this little cafe on a whim while on a road trip through Texas - Lucky for us because the food was fantastic and the staff was very friendly. This is a hidden gem in Kerrville, Tx that is a must try for everyone. They even have live music on the weekends. Highly recommend.
This former gem is no longer what it once was. It has lost its charm over the years. My biggest complaint is the inconsistency in the food and service. I visited this past Saturday evening and the wait staff seemed to be on drugs. Reading in the Kerr County People magazine I learned this was a Faith Based company. The owner should have more concern with these things. I understand the owners are out of town, but the restaurant certainly seems to be under poor management. I am not sure I will continue to dine here as I am more disappointed every time I come in.
WoW is the first words that come to mind. The food is amazing the service is better than amazing. The nursery was beautiful and all the wood work & plants was breath talking. I high recommend a visit to this treasure of a place. We traveled 1.5hours and will do it again soon
Shady management. I applied for a job they have posted online as a full time busser at $10 an hour +tips. Went out there for the interview and was told that its not full time and would only be for weekends. Then I wast old that I might be able to get extra days as a dishwasher but she had to speak with her boss first to make sure and never heard back. I cant speak for the food but theyll never get my business.
Great place to stop and relax on a long car ride or beautiful day! I would drive all the way back to Texas just to visit this place again all the staff is extremely friendly and helpful! I wouldn’t have found it if it weren’t for one small sign I drive past definitely think this place needs to be advertised more!
Havent been there in a couple years since a disappointing trip. but they have a beautiful atmosphere. Cant comment on the menu at this time,.....been thinking about trying it again, but Im a bit apprehensive about how folks might handle my food after sharing my disappointment, but I am extreeemly cautious about people handleing my food
Food is so so, waitstaff are rude or flighty, and owners are incompetent. will not go back and NEVER ORDER TAKEOUT. They will leave something important out EVERYTIME. Imagine trying to eat chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and NO GRAVY. Pies are good but way overpriced for the small sliver you get. Stay away from this joint.
It is always hard to find a good place to eat breakfast or lunch when you are traveling down the interstate. I usually try to go the quickest one and its always a let down. This Cafe is worth the extra mile to get away from the hustle and bustle and enjoy a peaceful meal.

2021-10-31Amazing surprise! I did a stop for a quick bite, but this place, especialy in autumn, needs more time! The food is fresh, delicious, highly recommend the fried mushrooms! Views are spectacular. Found out the owner has also a landscaping company, this is a treat and also a great business card for a detailed landscape. Last but not least, Brittany has been the best server: quick, flexible, smiling. She created an experience. I got to eat outside, siping red wine and admiring the pumkings and fall decorations. Did I mention they have live shows on Friday and Saturday? I ll be back soon!

2022-05-30You have a lot to choose from. But pricey, but organic. So if you want a nice looking garden yes. Otherwise you stroll around and just see whats in stock. I guess its pricey bc they grow everything on the ground. But service is superb. Its one of those mom and Papa owning shop. Its with checking out. And you might buy something.

2022-05-03Wonderful little cafe. The chicken salad was the best! I tried to get the recipe but no luck. The garden surrounding the cafe was so cute. The plant material being sold looked very healthy and the staff was very helpful. This place is so worth a visit if you are in Kerrville.
