Nightmare Experience: STAY AWAY!After prebooking my rental thru PRICELINE , the agent at airport pickup manipulated our reservation resulting in us being double booked/charged. Additionally we were charged for insurance after we repeatedly refused. The charges on our receipt were explained as being temporary holds which would eventually drop off upon return of the vehicle. Absolutely Shameless! After spending hours on the phone with customer service (RUDE & UNHELPFUL) regarding our situation, we interrupted our vacation to RETURN TO THE AIRPORT. We were met there with a similar attitude and left frustrated and without a resolution.Major lack of professionalism and integrity here not to mention their SLEEZY SALES TACTICS. I highly recommend you rent with a more reputable company.
First issue was the the credit card machine was acting up which eventually let to them charging me double on the deposit. Second, the fuel was incorrect on the agreement. Showed full but was only 3/4 full. Didnt realize it until after i stopped shorty after picking the car up. Last it is very difficult to get someone on the phone. Will not use Thrifty again.
Less than 1 star.Charged a smoking charges I DO NOT SMOKE, NO ONE IN THE CAR I RENTED SMOKES. CALL cs who stated they would refund/credit my cc. I dont trust or believe this company. Anyone who would erroneous charges for abstract beliefs by a cs rep. Applying their personal beliefs. By a subjective opinion.. I am livid. Will NEVER GO TO THIS COMPANY AGAIN. All I said was that I had a stressful day, and this rep concluded that I smoked in the car. I am beyond upset I am beyond stressed 😫
I booked with Expedia and paid for the car rental. But when I got to the counter, after waiting an hour, I told the salesman that we didnt need anything additional, it was all paid for. But he said that it was just standard and wouldnt take off the charges. I had to sign or not get the car. After an hour, you can imagine the feeling of being put in between a rock and a hard place with my family waiting as well. After the trip, I wrote to them. They didnt respond until my second letter. I explained the situation and said that it all looked good and they would not refund my money. A $200 rental turned into a $400 rental. Please DO NOT use this company!
Rented a car from this location only to have the air conditioner breakdown 105° weather when I asked to swap it out they told me to go to the Thrifty in Baton Rouge except there isnt one so I came to a Hertz location where I was told that they would not exchange the vehicle because there was nothing wrong with the air conditioner and then they proceeded to tell me that they were going to charge me $400 because I smoked next to the vehicle even though there isnt no nonsmoking signs anywhere
I was happy with the service provided by the employees at this location however I rented a car last night. I woke up to a flat tire. When you call roadside assistance so one answers and transfers you to another line. The recording is a lie stating they are experiencing high call volumes and blames covid. Wouldnt covid reduce the number of vehicles on the road and the number of calls? No one ever answers. It never tells you the wait time. It doesnt offer to have them call you back. 👎
I won’t be coming back to Thrifty ever again. We had to move our luggage and baby to THREE different vehicles before finally getting one that worked. Employees kept pointing us to malfunctioning cars and I have no idea why that’s even a thing! The first car we were pointed to had the check engine light on. The second one had the tire pressure monitor light on. My exhausted family had to load our heavy luggage and install our car seat into three different vehicles. It was horrible
The absolute worst customer service. After waiting in line outside for 2 hours, I was greeted by the rudest customer service rep. I had a reservation through Priceline and was unaware of the $500 deposit. While processing this unexpected expense the representative forced me to upgrade my reservation from a compact car to a midsize car. Stating that because there was going to be 3 passengers I could not get a compact car. And I had to purchase the gas and insurance from them as well. This representative was very rude and pressuring. This was a horrible start to my vacation. I DO NOT recommend Thrifty car rental!
When I arrive to San Antonio the line to the thrifty car rental location was very long and there was one employee working. I waited for a total of 25 minutes to rent my car. While in San Antonio there was a snowstorm and the airport closed down therefore I could not return the rental vehicle. I called thrifty rental several times to make sure I wasnt being charged while the roads and airport were closed. I was assured by two different thrifty agents that thrifty has a disaster policy and I will not be charged for the extra five days I was snowed in. I returned the vehicle when the airport and roads were reopened. I was told to leave the vehicle and I did not see an agent at that time. When I returned home I saw Thrifty had charged my debit card and extra $800 for the extra days. I have attempted to contact thrifty for the last five days to dispute these charges and I was told that until somebody from that particular location responds, I will not have any answer to my dispute. I have called that location about 20 times and I am constantly hung up on without any live person answering. This is absurd and completely unprofessional. I understand the storm has set everybody behind however my account should have never been charged that extra $800. I will never use thrifty rental car or anyone associated with them ever again.
The worst experience and customer service experience we have every received… we got a compact car for with an individual that is injured from his back because that’s all they had. Then they give us a car key in which the remote control to unlock the vehicle does not work we manually have to unlock the vehicle and then to top it off they give us a vehicle in which the back light for the drivers side does not work and we got pulled over by a cop for it. Then they have the audacity to keep us on hold forever and don’t answer this is beyond ridiculous I want my money back or a new vehicle for the remaining three days we are here in San Antonio, Tx!!!!!!
The rear drivers side door was nearly flat. I put air in twice, but air pressure light never went off. I booked through company travel agent and it was prepaid, but you asked for a personal card to place a hold that was damn near as much as the entire two week rental. I did not get my car until the 3rd day of my business trip. I booked with enterprise in Feb and there was a nicely dressed employee with a tablet waiting for me at the bottom of the elevator, addressed me by name and escorted me to my car. Your agents refused to step out from behind their desks and offered nothing but roadblocks, which could only be removed by me paying almost as much as my company had already paid for the rental out of my own pocket. When I finally did get a key, I had walk across the entire garage level to find someone. When I did, I got an unprofessional, awww yea, jus take any car pass dat po me, my company travel agent has access to all of your competitors. I will not book with thrifty again.
Already shared. Vehicle got amazing gas mileage and has small tank. Filled the entire tank when using for $40 yet got charged over $90 for them to put in half tank. It wasnt full when I took it so I should have been charged about 1/4 tank worth of fuel plus the outrageous charge to have an hourly employee go pump the fuel but $96 come on
Literally the worst rental experience I have ever had. Don’t go here at all and definitely don’t ask for a manager who has no type of communication skills or even have the professionalism to help someone in need. My girlfriend rented a vehicle through a 3rd party service weeks ago and because the 3rd party failed to secure to booking with Thrifty it took all of 6-8 hours to get some adequate assistance from the TELEPHONE operator for Thrifty. The female manager on-site was useless and rather than help us she ended up, upstairs talking to her boyfriend. Throughly disgusted with the service not provided here and the audacity to blame the customer.
First time using this company and it will be my last time !!! Went to get my car rental at San Antonio Airport they gave me a upgrade to a van for 90 dollars!!! so i took it only had one van that was dirty so took van anyways cause it took 30 min just to get van !!! Returned van lady said everything was good and then i get a 60 dollar for cleaning fee but i have video of this and the van was cleaner then i got it. They said everything is good at airport. Trying to talk to customer service they only have people overseas and cant talk to anyone at airport to see this dirty part they saying need to be cleaned and they keep putting me on hold for a while then hanging up.
I would actually give it no stars. Online vehicle descriptions are deceptive. We ordered online a full size SUV which indicated a Nissan Pathfinder or similar. It described the SUVs would fit seven people. My brother went to pick up the vehicle and he noticed that seven people would not fit in this small/mid-size SUV. So he had to up-size and pay an additional $1000. On Thriftys website, there is no option for a larger SUV other than the full size. If we had known or given the option at the time of booking, we would have rented the larger one.
The staff at the airport rental location were friendly, courteous and polite. Despite having a large number of rentals to deal with and only a few people working to get those rentals taken care of, all of the staff were pleasant to work with. The car met my expectations.
October 26, 2020, Update to the following review:Even after I thought this matter was cleared up by Thrifty, 5 months later I received a call from the claims office stating that the matter of the vehicle Incident could only be closed by the them. Long story short, they sent this matter to collections. I held strong in my innocence and finally, they dropped this matter. Please everyone, make sure you take pictures or video the rental car inspection. I did not do that and neither did they. I will never rent from any Hertz owned rental company (Thrifty and Dollar). Hertz sent me a letter of apology, however; I was harassed to the point of threats by collection. Thank God I documented everything other than the vehicle inspection.Worst car rental experience of my life.I rented a 2018 Chevy Malibu through Thrifty at the San Antonio Airport on 03/05/2020 and returned on 03/07/2020 at 3:30 am. I parked the vehicle with no damage and returned the keys to a clerk at the Hertz counter. I wrote my mileage down but should have taken photos or video of the car. I received an email from Hertz stating there was damage to the car when it went to maintenance and my contract number was the last rental. It was like pulling teeth to find out what the damage was (scratches on the front bumper) No walk around was done and I didnt see any scratches when I got the vehicle. I did notice my receipt they sent me had a 270 mile difference. So from the Saturday morning when I dropped off the car until Monday morning someone put 270 extra miles on the car and they had no record of it. Hertz, Thrifty, Dollar who ever they want to call themselves was very unprofessional. I had to email the person back to get her to call me since I spent an hour on the phone with 5 different people in different states just to get no answer. I will not be using Thrifty, Dollar or Hertz for my future rentals. Beware, take videos, pictures not just of the vehicle but the odometer as well. If you can avoid dropping the car off before they open do it. You cant trust them, at least at the San Antonio Airport location. I hope this helps some one else.
My rental experience was great until I discovered I had left my house key in the rental car. 3 hours of trying to get in touch with the local office left me with no keys and a tremendous headache. The company phone number kept disconnecting the calls. When I finally got a human on the phone she was very apathtic. Flat out didnt give a rats behind. Not sure I will ever use them or recommend them to anyone.
The rental car was very dirty on pick up. It has yellow chalk on the window and the back was covered in dirt. Essentially, did not appeared washed. The car was also very well used with nearly 25k miles on the vehicle. Customer service was poor with long wait times to confirm the reservation and pick up the vehicle. Probably one of the worst car rental experiences to date.
Awesome service. Very easy pickup and delivery. Originally had a mid-sized SUV reserved, but when we got to the rental car area they were running behind and offered us a four-door sedan for a significantly cheaper amount to get us out quicker. Great service will use from now on when renting cars on trips.
The counter and pick up experience were far better than the low price competetitors. The downstairs was a little quirky in that there was one woman there trying to assist everyone coming from the counter.Where the issue showed up was at the return when I finally looked at the charges. The counter against had charged me for the insurance even though I specifically said no. As a result I had to spend 25 minutes on the phone with customer service to get it corrected.Car was nice. 90% clean.
NEVER booking with Thrifty AGAIN! They charged my card $300 because the guy said it looked like i smoked due to the color of my skin and tattoos!!!!!!! They had horrible service from jump & i waited a hour just to get a DAMN CAR!!!!! I HATE THRIFTY WORSE CAR RENTAL BUSINESS I DEADED WITH SO FAR!!!!!!! THEN THEY REFUSED TO DISPUTE MY MONEY BACK
Made reservations 2 weeks ago. Reserved to pick up at 3:30 at 4:30 they are washing it. When I asked why it wasnt ready for time of pick up one rude girl said you only reserved the car and walked away. The other rude girl said we dont control when yhe cars come in and walked away. No customer service no care for anyone elses time if you rent and its a few dollars more I suggest you pay for customer service.
My family and myself, Simply had the worst service ever. front desk girl doesn’t even know to say Hi/ welcome to customers, then when I get to the parking lot car rentals. Nobody was there to help us, we wait there with all our bags until a someone showed up, again Not even Hi/ Welcome, a guy told us your car is in the other aisle and make us to go all the way there to jump on the car rental, instead of bring us up the vehicle showing a decent service. We always rent cars when traveling but this time definitely was worst experience we have had. Never again with this guys of Thrifty, bad bad service.
As of Tuesday 13October, I have still NOT received my $300 credit from a rental returned Tuesday 15September...... More to come...Total garbage Mickey Mouse operation. From the pickup to currently 5 days after dropping off the vehicle, and counting, it has been an S show.My car was returned Tuesday Sep 15th, today is Sunday Sep 20th and my issue of being overcharged for $350 has yet to be resolved. Spoke to 6 different agents 3 of them that werent in the United States and had a HUGE language barrier and hung up on me because their scripts to resolve problems doesnt go that far. 3 Supervisor/Manager that promised me a callback with a resolution and yet nothing has been done. Its apparent that Thrifty believes to wear down the customer so the customer gives up. All customer service numbers leads to the corporate office. Customer service would not conference call the local office with me. No one would give me the local office number to dispute the charges. I just called customer service and the recording says theyre open at 6 a.m. Central Time 7 days a week, its now 10:40 a.m. Central Time and the recording says theyre closed. This is comical you cant make this S up. Totally unprofessional, deplorable customer service, and a Mickey Mouse operation
I went to pick up my rental as stated on my itinery which had false information on it. I was told my car would not be ready for pick up until Late At Night 10:30 pm. I told them my itinery states otherwise, pick up being 9:30 am, and the clerk said sorry there is Fine Print. This happened to me during covid-19. I needed a car to find a new place to live. I was greatly delayed by this companys bad service yesterday. Thrifty used to give me good service but yesterday was a misfortune.
We showed up late at night only to be greeted by the rudest rental car employee ever. Actually got mad at me and got loud when I asked politely to pop the hood and do a quick check. Im a mechanic so I wanted to make sure everything good and I know rental companies arent very thorough when it comes to checking cars out. I took her word for it and low and behold it was low on oil and had a slow leak in the left rear tire.
Thrifty wasn’t there for us to pick up our car and hours on the phone had nothing solved. No one not even the supervisor would give us a refund! And we were told they are closed for a week! What a poor, unsatisfactory company. Great customer service thrifty! Really enjoyed you fighting with us instead of solving the problem! This is for San Antonio Airport thrifty rental cars.
My wife rented a vehicle with Thrifty in which she fell for the pitch (upgrade). Upon returning the vehicle, she wanted to pay cash instead of putting the charges on the credit card. The clerk put it on the card and per my wife, he could not reverse the charges.Same day after returning the above rental, she rented another vehicle and fell for the pitch once again. In 45 minutes after leaving the rental property, she was in an accident which was not her fault. We took all the information to the rental place (accident report, fill out their paperwork) and they told her that they cant put her in another vehicle until they get the car back on their lot. The Police called a tow truck and informed her that she could not drive it. So you are telling me just because the car was towed to what ever location the city towed it to, you cant rent her another vehicle until you get the car back?Everyday, I continued to check my credit card and they was charging me daily for that rental that was not in my possession. If this is the rental car practice, they should inform the customers about their practice. The people that represented Thrifty at the location was no help, Manager told my wife some BS excuse. So my next step was to file a dispute against Thrifty and no matter how reasonable their rates, no more of business and would never recommend anyone to rent a car from them.
I booked and paid for a reservation for my under 25 step son and they cancelled the reservation and forced him (yes forced since there were no other locations opened) to rent one day for the same cost as 3 days, alleging that being under 25 was the reason. On top of that requiring a $200 deposit. Just sickening. My positive thoughts about Thrifty are no more.
I thought i found a great deal on a rental for a day trip. The reservation was for $68 with taxes and fees, I added on the $10 collision coverage and my total came to $78.35. When my charge appeared on my credit card they charged my credit card in excess of $120. I spoke to a representative and a supervisor who said roadside(that I did not authorize or request) and a collision waiver(an additional $30) were added in my contract. I will never use this company again. DO NOT SIGN until you read EVERYTHING. Ask for a breakdown of all charges.
Its a small company, but it gets the job done. I liked that we got to pick our car at pick up. We selected compact, and they showed us the cars available in that range. You just get in the car you want, and the keys are there. The staff was nice, and check out and in was easy.
I took the car for two days and it’s not the first time I do have business I travel a lot to Dallas so I use rental car almost every 2 to 3 weeks for a day or two so I know that’s all I don’t supposed to smoke in it and I did not I have a proof of that but when I drop the vehicle back to the airport the lady she was helping out I told her let’s go ahead and check the car before I leave and she just told me don’t worry about it everything seems fine you will get an email for the receipt the next day I wake up I checked my email and I do have charge of $400 a cleaning fees when I call customer service after waiting almost 2 hours on the line they told me that’s a smoking cleaning fees and they cannot do nothing about it I tried to approve it for him that I never smoke in it end up paying $400 I will not recommend this place at all never go back
Note - problems were with the bill received and toll fees charged after the rental was over, not with the Thrifty San Sntonio car rental itself. No problems with the car itself. Our problems were with a grossWe rented a car from the Thrifty at San Antonio airport. We upgraded to a sports car, and understood the extra charges involved with the change - told $680 total for our rental. Problem occurred at the end of our rental - the bill was well over $800! Then, we received a bill a couple weeks later for toll roads we had accessed near Austin. We were charged $2.25 for each toll fee, but $15 PER TOLL ($45 total) as a “Thrifty administrative fee.” I called to complain about the exorbitant administrative fee, and the agent cut the fees in half. Still, it is ridiculously expensive. I do not think will be using thrifty again anytime soon.
The lady was trying to sell us upgraded stuff that we didnt need. We pay for the car with our bundle. They told us we wont get our money back from our bundle. So they took most our money for our trip. WE WILL NEVER RENT A VEHICLE FROM HERE AGAIN. I will give the people that tell you were the car is. They were REALLY nice. They upgrade us for free because they mess up.
All honestly I’m disgusted by this company. I had such a wonderful experience from beginning to end of my trip. Get home and get a bill for $110 ($20 of tolls and $90 worth of admin fees). I was told at your San Antonio TX airport that my Massachusetts EZPass would work no problem, I guarantee it said the agent. All he was interested was in upgrading us. I understand maybe pay one admin fee but $90. Outrageous
Scammers alert! Do NOT rent here. The line at the airport was huge so we were sent to this place to be attended there. Huge mistake!Although we had a reservation online with the final value determined, this very uneducated moron charged us additional US$25/day stating we must had some sort of third-party insurance. We insisted we did not need that but it was in vain. As we had to head to Austin that same afternoon, we were obliged to pay for it (the reservation was partially paid upfront and the other car rentals were a shuttle bus trip distant).Dishonest and rude!I wonder how this is still open. Look at all those reviews, they do it to all of the customers, all day, everyday. Somebody sue them!
I wanted a car from Thrifty. It was the cheapest and easiest rental car experience available at the airport. Since I only needed the car for a few days I couldn’t see myself spending 700+. They had a rental car for less than $400 that fit my overall budget and needs for my visit to San Antonio.
Doesnt even deserve 1 star! I just rented a car over the July 4th holiday and when we picked up the car the agent at the counter asked me is I wanted all these add ons in which I replied NO, I dont want anything extra. She then asked do I want to prepay gas in which I said Yes. After returning the car I noticed on my card that I had been charged almost double the original reservation I made! I was only supposed to pay a total of $201 and I ended up paying $118 plus an addition $226 for all the extra things this agent threw on against my approval! They totally scammed me and when I finally got through on the phones to the general manager and explained the situation, he completely dismissed that the agent had done anything wrong and then gave me a lecture about insurance! WORST service I have ever had. Stay far away from this awful establishment. I will make sure the whole world knows it!
Doesnt even rate one star. Military members beware!!! The guy checking us in told us we would receive a military discount on an upgrade and we agreed on a price. Once I got the bill, I was charged double. Called customer service and was told they do not give a military discount on upgrades, she seemed unconcerned their employee had lied to us. Said it was my fault for not reading the fine print. Car was filthy on top of that. I could have rented three cars from anywhere else for the price they charged me. Sad what a company will do for a few extra bucks!
Rented a car for my trip in San Antonio, thought everything was fine until I got home and find $449 in extra charges I did not ask for. I was told at the counter that I would pay $30 for prepay gas but come to find out they added charges for insurance which I had already paid thru expedia, loss damage fee, road service etc... $449 charges when I already paid for the car and insurance thru expedia. When contacting the customer service they were not helpful and are saying I asked for theses services. This is a scam and a waste of money. All they do is apologize for being useless.
It was like dealing witha scam artist. The counter person must be on commission. When I said all the add-ons and insurance were too expensive she said if I could not not afford to rent a car I shouldnt fly. Needless to say I will never use any of their companies again,
Although they werent located at the airport, I was provided a shuttle pick up to their location. Waited about 5 minutes before I was helped and processed my rental quickly with no issues. Met with a lot attendant and directed to my selection of different compact vehicles. In and out in about 10 to 15 minutes. Overall experience was positive!
DO NOT RENT FROM HERE!!!! First.....I got the wrong car when I went to pick up. Drop off was a nightmare. I was told a 24 hr guard was going to be at my drop-off location. When I arrived he was not there....then they told me to park it and they would complete the rental when they open. 5 days later......and Im still getting charges on my credit card!!!!UPDATE: They found the car almost a month later and gave me the runaround for wanting a refund. I was blatantly disrespected in emails and phone calls over a situation they didnt handle properly
Beware of scams with these crooked people. I rented a car through hotwire online and it listed the type of car I was paying for. But when I got to the thrifty location they made me pay $53 more for an upgrade that I didnt want but they said there was no more of the cars I was supposed to get and I had to upgrade it no matter what. But I went to check in their lot by myself and I found the car I had reserved and I asked them why they were making me upgrade if they had the ones I had rented online. They got so embarrassed and didnt know what to say they said they make more money when you upgrade a car but they lie to me
Lady was very unhelpful. To begin with, no one was at the counter until about 30 minutes of waiting. She was preoccupied with something else the whole time and kept switching back and forth, which normally I dont mind, but she didnt give me any information on the rental and was generally just absentminded. When I would ask a question, she would constantly say, its straightforward, just read it online. I had to ask the person that gave me the rental in the garage and she was bewildered by how much information I asked for. Honestly that whole experience was terrible and that little interaction alone is going to make me steer clear of them. I will say that the turn in process was straightforward and easy, only thing is that they charge you $9.99 per gallon for gas, which isnt crazy but something to be weary of.
I will start by saying that a chunk of the difficulty I faced could be attributed to either ditzy-ness on my part or the severe anxiety that driving anywhere around an airport parking structure causes. Now, Im just going to say it in the easiest way that I think somebody could have said it to me:Drive into the parking garage, and youre gonna either want to park or have someone drop you off inside the parking garage - by the elevators. Take the elevator up to the 3rd floor. At that point, there are signs that say which floor each particular brand of car rental is located. Regardless of which car rental company is chosen, all of the rental places, at least for that floor, are checked in at the Hertz counter/room/box... area... thing. Here is where my irritation is for sure directed solely at the car rental business going on there at the San Antonio Airport. The lady that was at the Thrifty section pretty much implied she thought we were either dumb, lazy, or a combination of the two. If she said, in regards to all rentals going through the Hertz check-in that we walked right by, rather than where all the yuge hanging-from-the-ceiling signs were that denoted the specific non-Hertz car rental company we choose, You can read it on the signs, one more time... I was gonna rip this chick a new one by breaking down every negative aspect she sees in herself and forcing her to believe in each of them until her dying day.I walked away, though, reminding myself that airport parking areas legit give me severe anxiety - and she was right: if its on signS, I should have taken more care to read them.No. No. Nah, son.We get over to the Hertz check-in area, and there are 3 signs that DO say this. Of course, two of those signs are facing the entrance to the Hertz counter thingy, which is perpendicular to when you get off of the elevators. The only sign that is visible from the elevator (or escalator, for that matter), which unless you are intentionally going to Hertz, where you would see the two other signs, you wouldnt see, is only useful if its not blocked by standing folk.I knew I didnt go with Hertz. I had no reason to look at the Hertz area when the only sign that would have been visible to me, based off of MY NOT USING HERTZ, thus my decision to not go around to its entrance, where the two signs were, again, IS BLOCKED BY PEOPLE.Anyways, the car rentals at San Antonio Airport are at the top of the parking garage, accessible through the elevators, starting at the 3rd Floor.
I had a nice experience!Everyone was super nice and helpful. Inside help was easy, but once I picked the car I wanted, leaving was a set back. With only one way out and only one man doing the gate keeping, it left me waiting in line for 20 minutes, So good thing I wasnt in hurrry. Over all, you get what you pay for..
Dont go here. The line was terrible because there are not enough attendants. They didnt have a premium car that we had reserved so they upgraded us up to a small SUV, which was not premium by any standard and charged us $60.00 more. Their car inventory is very limited. This must be a typical game they play to get more money out of you. Their location was not at the airport so you have to take a shuttle. Bad, bad, bad.
I reserved a car a month prior to my pick-up date. I RESERVED a Maxima class sized vehicle and prepaid the rental. The information in my rental showed I was arriving late in the day (11pm local). When I arrived at the Thrifty SAT lot, there were at most 5 cars remaining... All Ford Fiestas (at least two categories smaller than my reservation). I was never so glad that I had been at the front of the bus. People at the end of the line likely didnt even get a car! I was informed that because I had pre-paid, that I would not receive a refund of any sort even though I was getting a much smaller car. If I wanted to, I could come back and exchange the car later. Right, thats what we want to do, spend hours coming out of our way to get the car we actually reserved. Nevermind that I was actually spending the weekend in Austin, not San Antonio. This was like a bad Seinfeld episode. Apparently Thrifty at SAT does not understand the meaning of reservation. They also apparently dont understand the meaning of customer satisfaction.
If I could give less I would. I was stranded at the San Dieg airport with no car! I prefer paid and had a confirmation email but the very unhappy with her life representative said I cant have a car because I do not have 2 froms of photo government ID and simple sat there staring at me and my family like we are wasting her time. No help very rude and did I mention it says nothing on line about the 2 forms of government ID.... So she sent us to Payless to get a car that cost us, no joke twice as much .I think its a scam locally that clerks get spiffs for doing .two other family were there in the same boat. I will never use thrift again.
I booked in the web page, and when I arrived to pick up the car, they want to charge over $150 USD more for insurance and other taxes. Then I asked to change the car for a cheaper car, but the lady did not allow it. I finally payed like a $100 USD more. It is an abuse, attract customers online without providing full information on costs, taxes and insurance. Lady in the counter unkindly
Got a confirmation for a car rental paid for ride to the airport to retrieve the vehicle but was rejected at the counter due to having no major credit card this was not a issue or mention when it was setup online. Now have to find and pay for another ride back home, highly upset just bad business
Absolutely horrible and deceitful. I was told I would be charged a deposit on my credit card which I was okay with the rental was only $25 however a total charge of $147 was posted on my account. The teller who I specifically told I did not need any insurance charges me for 2 types of insurance , so the total price was not the price of the rental plus the insurance it was the extra changes she added. This is why customers don’t trust companies anymore.
Car was not ready when we got there on the shuttle from the airport. We had to wait about 12 minutes. How is a car not ready? We made this reservation several weeks in advance through Expedia. The drive-thru guy at McDonalds couldve gotten this right, and he never gets ANYTHING right. The lady at the counter suggested I upgrade my car to a Chevy Malibu for only $78 MORE total for our trip (3 days). I asked what we were currently in, she said some Kia. I said, well, well see what the Kia is all about and change at the lot if need be. She finishes typing in the information and what do you know, were actually in a Chevy Malibu. I ALMOST GOT SCAMMED!? Also, the cup holder was not clean. It had about a fist full worth of cookie crumbs the cleaner guy missed. Yes, it had a sliding cover that was hiding it, but I FOUND IT, why couldnt the guy - who his only job is to find trash and clean it out - find it?Everything else about the rental experience went fine (the shuttle ride, the shuttle driver, the car did not break down).
VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE.I was not given the car I was shown online. They charged me twice for my payment. I was way overcharged than what they said they would charge me.I tried to call the customer service to fix it. They kept transferring my call, but nobody picked up my call to help me out with my issue. Finally, I had to remain overcharged and pay that amount against my will.
Check your credit card carefully after using this service. I was assigned Thrifty as part of an Expedia bundle. Ive rented enough cars to know to fill the gas tank and not pay for exorbitant prices by allowing the rental agency to fill the tank. I filled the tank the night before, drove 2.5 miles from the hotel to the Thrifty drop off, informed the attendant the tank was full, he checked over the car and said nothing. When I got my credit card bill I find a $28+ charge from Thrifty. I immediately called Thrifty and they said the tank was only 7/8th filled...I dont think so! Im currently contesting this charge through my credit card agency and Ive informed Expedia of this, apparent, discrepancy in the reading of the gas gauge by their Sub.
They sell you an upgrade which is actually a lower value car and charge you extra taxes direct to your credit card. DO NOT USE THEMI had the same experience as another reviewer with extra charges on my credit card which I have been told that I agreed to and am getting nowhere with their customer service.
We experienced the same problem with needing to have a major credit card in order to get the rental. We arrived there in an Uber and was told that because we live in Texas (Austin), we are considered local and therefore we cant rent a car through them without a major credit card (even with a debit card with a MasterCard logo) or a plane voucher. Wish they wouldve told us this before when we talked to them on the phone.
WARNING!!!!! This place is filled with SCAMMERS! Top of the line scammers who will smile in your face while they rip you off. Do not take anything they offer, they will over charge you in the end. These people scammed me and made me feel like I was a crook when I went back to the location to get a refund. I am really disappointed in how low some people will stoop for a couple of dollars. Really pathetic. Shame on all of them, especially the young girl that lied to me and charged me a ridiculous amount of money for insurance. Shame on you! Remember there is a God! I called Thrifty customer service and my money was fully refunded, even though a employee at the store who said she was a supervisor claimed that there are no refunds. CHECK YOUR RECEIPT, NEVER UNDERESTIMATE A SMILING FACE, CHECK YOU BANK ACCOUNT.
Worst service ever! The attendant did want to confuse me with the upgrade and additional charges, she said it would be $30 additional dollars only, and went from $100 to $280; when asked she couldn´t explain. I had to speak to the manager, she couldn´t explain either but managed to remove the additional charges.Won´t rent from them ever again!!
This has been the worst car rental service that my family has ever experienced. They are not trained and do not inform you about the additional charges that they WILL charge you. There customer service is exactly the opposite of being a service they ignore you and do not explain or try to resolve problems. Dont trust this shady company if you are expecting or wanting a good time!
We accidentally got onto a toll road in south Texas for literally 30 seconds. We received a bill a couple of weeks later. We had a .67 cent toll fee and a $15.00 administrative fee. I would think twice about renting from this company! Whatever you might save with the initial rate, they will tack on an absorbanant amount of ridiculous fees!! $15.00 on a .67 cent toll? Come on! That’s 💩
This Thrifty location is completely incompetent and has terrible customer service! I returned my car at 4:00am and was promised a receipt to file a trip expense. I week later they still have not been able to provide a receipt. Called the office but was transferred to avoid dealing with the situation.
Good luck trying to get your deposit back, which before you even get car off the lot they take our of your qccount!, also, dont bother calling cistomer service!!! They dont answer! There dealing with high volume of calls! I believe thats the recording they have to use, because they dont EVER ANSWER!
Scary! While driving on Airport Blvd today, the Thrifty Car rental shuttle #28 was in front of of another vehicle and slammed on his brakes because he/she got mad they got the horn blown at them. There was a driver that tried to get into the right lane and the shuttle driver must have had a problem with that and wouldnt let the vehicle in. The shuttle driver on purpose slammed their brakes on to cause an accident. .This was not called for..totally unsafe!
Great car... new and red..went on an official college visit .. turns out my son was asked to sign with Sul Ross State University to play baseball (pitcher).. we were surprised to see the schools colors were red and black just like the car we just rented ..just awesome! It was a sign!
This location itself was great, but the corporate number I tried to get info from when our flight was delayed was terrible. They couldnt tell me much about the shuttle and would not give me the local branch number. Everything worked out and the branch was great once I got there.
Rental (through AAA) was easy even though our flight had been delayed.Return was another thing, however, since I could not find the agency address anywhere on the contract paperwork. An address stamp or sticker on the contract envelope would save tourists a LOT of stress.
Too many hidden fees, way too expensive, horrible service, they try to charge you for stuff that you dont want, I literally had to fight with them last time I was there because they took 600$ from my card instead of 200$. Such a piss poor excuse for a company. If I could rate it in the negatives I would.
Lousy service...on phone for 30 minutes just trying to find out if they had a shuttle running at 4:30 AM to get a very early flight...after waiting on hold for 32 minutes just gave up.....price was very low and service even lower.....stay away unless you are an experienced renter and dodge all of the fees and upselling......

2021-12-06Only one person working and 25 people waiting. Took over 1.5 hours in line. I had a premium suv booked and they gave me a dinged up mini van! Never again! The only good thing was the only lady working was very professional and very nice. She can do so much better somewhere else for a company that would appreciate her. One solid star for her, zero for your company.

2022-08-01Process of rental and drop of was easy.We had a valve stem leak on one of the tires. Called in and they said someone could come out to put the spare tire on but we would have to pay for it. We missed an entire day of vacation because of the flat tire. The person never came, waited over 2 hours. We were told we could take it in to get it fixed and they would reimburse us for it. To fix the tire it cost us $24 and the company said they would not reimburse us after all. They said they don’t pay for those things and it’s likely from me hitting something with the tire. I can assure them that I never hit something and ruined the valve stem. I will not use this company ever again. They should be responsible for their vehicle that includes making sure it’s reliable and does not pose a safety issue. I cannot believe they would allow their customer to be stranded.

2022-07-07I was so hoping to give a good review. But unfortunately there are too many many issues that will end up costing exceedingly more for using this location. Pickup seemed smooth. But once I left I realized I was charged for insurance after I informed the young lady I didn’t need car insurance. I was willing to overlook it even after I had to personally drive back to the pick up location, walk up and down from their counter to pick up location as they claim to do some things above and some below just to remove the charge. You can’t do that over the phone. However, I turned in my car on 6/30 and as of July 7th I still have a $400 and a $458 pending charge. I look at my invoice to turn it in to my company for reimbursement and realize that the paper they gave me is not an invoice but just an estimate of charges. So I call the 877 number to get a copy, to find out my invoice has not yet closed and I have $400 charge for supposedly not turning in the keys. The gentleman somehow manages to remove the charge but I have to wait 5-7 business days to receive a close out invoice and my money released…I doubt this is the end. But praying God intervenes. If you value your time, sanity, and peace, DO NOT rent from here. Drive the extra 10 miles, take an uber or take the bus. It’s absolutely not worth the hassle and it’ll cost you way more than just money.

2022-05-221 star is being very nice. When I arrived at the San Antonio Airport on May 19th around 11pm, there was no one in line at Thrifty. The girl came in after waiting 10 minutes to check us in. She asked me if I wanted to fuel the car through them or to fuel it myself. I told her I wanted to fuel it myself. She kept saying that the cost of gas was cheaper at Thrifty than the average gas price in Texas. I asked her if I would be charged for the full tank if I purchase gas from them and she responded saying no, that I would only be charged for the used portion of the gas. With that said, I agreed to purchase the gas from Thrifty. When I returned the car, I noticed a charge on the receipt for $80 for gas. I asked the guy that was helping us return and he said if I drove the car less than 75 miles that I would be credited. He checked the mileage and it was a little over 75 miles used. He said he would waive the charge since we werent that much over. He had me sign a new receipt and said I would receive a credit on my credit card. When I received the revised receipt, the $80 charge was still there. Since I was on the plane, I couldnt do anything about it until I got home. I tried to call customer service, but it is nearly impossible to get through. I kept getting recordings. Finally, I reached a recording that said if I pre-paid for gas that I would not be refunded for the unused portion. Had I known this from the beginning I would not have purchased gas from Thrifty and would have filled it up myself. I felt that the girl that helped us at the front desk lied to me about their gas policy. I realize that car rental places are just as crooked and dont care about the customer. Please do no purchase a rental from Thrifty as they will find some way of charging you for something to make money.

2021-11-10Made my reservation on Southwest Airlines app. Girl at the checkin counter was friendly and fast. THEN THE NIGHTMARE HAPPENED. She told me to go upstairs and check in by the Hertz booth. When I got there there were 3 couples/families there. We waited and waited and waited and waited. People that came up after us were getting vehicles an we just told there. The lady there said well it depends on the size of vehicle you chose. WHAT? Instead of helping in order it’s the vehicle size, then it was the excuse of we are short handed, then it was well you didn’t have a reservation (BUT I CLEARLY DID). A couple of people that got their cars came right back, one had a donut spare on the LF, one car was knocking really bad and they had both been gone maybe 15/20 mins. The family from South Carolina finally got a car after waiting there for an hour and 20 minutes. I got mine after an hour and 10 minutes of just standing around. It was 10:15pm when I walked up and it was 11:25pm when i finally got a car. First and last time I use this company. It was a joke, very unorganized, didn’t seem to care we waited that long.

2022-08-05Stay away from this company at all costs! I rented a car for less than a day and it was the most expensive car rental Ive ever had from the SA airport. I was charged for a multiple day and after calling customer service to ask why my bill was over $300 when I was estimated around $170, they said it was up to this location to adjust the final invoice. Its been weeks and Ive still had no response, no adjustment, and no answers for the multiple charges. Calling the customer service gets you no where. They just give you the run around and blame it on this location and yet theres no way getting through to this location. I have rented from different car rentals at this airport for multiple days and still have not paid this much. Save your money and choose a different car rental at this airport.

2022-04-12So the thrifty car was pretty dang inexpensive.... Until I got back and turned it in.RENTER BEWARE? The total of my reservation was $469.I left the counter at 1:00 p.m. and an hour and a half later still without my car they were miserably understaffed and trying as hard as they could. The girls who are working in the garage were in constant motion. After a couple sets of customers had come and gone after about an hour the girl called me over and said that she was really sorry that they were still getting my vehicle ready. I preferred the small SUV I rented but I had an appointment to get to and she said if you want to take the Nissan Maxima you can.....So when I got back to the airport and got into the terminal I saw my bill 767.00I was charged $80 for a vehicle upgrade that I never asked for and wasnt much of an upgrade anyway. They held me up almost two full hours in the garage after I left the desk and then charged me $15 an hour for being 2 hours late. The tax was almost $100 and so were there maintenance cost recovery, licensed recovery and operation fee...Everybody who worked here at the airport including the amazing guy who checked me back in are all hardworking but what a sheisty way to do business for a car rental company.

2022-05-09Unethical and manipulative on so many levels.1- The salesman upgraded my car without consent and I was charged for it. I told him multiple times I did not want an upgrade. I was told the charges were taxes / fees. Upon closer look it was an “upgraded car” that I did not want. I couldn’t get my money back and I’m sure he got a commission off that. Pretty sure that’s called theft San Antonio, Texas. ****SCAM* SCAM****2- Salesman also tried to convince me that I had to purchase insurance through them. No I don’t. I have my own insurance. Lies.3- They forced me to give them my social security number and ran a credit check on me because I was only carrying my debit card... not a credit card.4- My car wasn’t ready and I had to wait in 100 degree weather for my car. Annoying.

2022-04-21This place is a scam! I paid and booked my reservation on Expedia. When I checked in they asked for a credit card down. When I got to my hotel I received a notification that my card was charged over $600.00. I didnt even pay that much for my rental thru Expedia. I called the number on the back of paper work and they could not help me and told me to talk to the counter when I returned the car. I tried to discuss the charges with the manager and the first thing she said was that she is not going to refund my card. They charged me for insurance when my already paid rental had insurance and for fuel when the vehicle was returned full. They also had no SUV available which is what I booked. We had no other option but to take a 2-door sports car with a small child this was not convenient and very uncomfortable. This company is extremely rude with no customer service. They dont even deserve 1-Star! Do not use this company!

2022-08-21If you rent a car via a third party app -- like Priceline, hopper, etc -- be careful at this airport location. They will say/do anything to force you to cancel your reservation and rebook with them directly. Staff gave us info that conflicted with thrifty rep on the phone and info listed on website. We could have contested it for another hour, but when dealing with shady people, cut your losses and move on. Good luck to travelers needing a car at San Antonio airport. Youll need it.
