Awesome toy shop, with lots of rare and hard to find collectibles. Friendly, knowledgeable staff who can answer any question you have. Lots of Hello Kitty, Sanrio items, and pretty much any toy you can think of, including classic toy remakes. Large selection of truffles, and a huge selection of fudge, and candy options.
I have been absolutely obsessed with this place for years now. I love their wide selection of toys. Going into the store is a treat every time, and the staff are ready to help you find anything you need. The only reason I give Toy Joy 5 stars is because there are no more Gundam Model Kits. Of course, there are a few, but because of Covid, the supply of Gundam Kits have gone down. I used to go to Toy Joy every single week to get a Gundam, now I go there with disappointment.
I have been a customer for years! I love this ToyJoy location bc of the sweet employees!! And free parking is a bonus. I drive in from Houston every few months to see what new Sanrio merch they have. There hasn’t been much new stuff lately but I hope they can build up a good stock again!
Loved this place! They have everything from weird little party favors to Playmobil sets I havent seen since I was a kid. Large selection of Japanese toys and a decent candy selection on one side of the store. Action figures, collectibles, puzzles, magic tricks, and so much more.
So happy to come across Toy Joy while in Austin. We were going to go to Terra Toys (since we had been there before), but then we werent allowed to enter without masks. TERRA TOYS LOST OUR BUSINESS! We are now happy, free consumers of Toy Joy toys. We found a little area of Christmas in July and already bought a power ranger ornament for this year. I love all the tiny Toy items so the kids can have a few different items than committing to a big box set. Lots of nostalgic toys as well as new items. I love the European based wooden baby/ toddler toys as well. Oh and they have a gorgeous display of Russian Nesting Dolls!!!
Observe that the low reviews here are people lacking human decency to wear masks going into YEAR TWO of the pandemic. Employees cant help return your maskless freedom if you refuse to wear one - simple math, guys. Drama aside, Toy Joy really has an awesome selection of sweets, plushies, hobby items, stationary, and oh goodness gracious, their book and games collection corner would keep me there for hours if there werent fellow shoppers eager to browse in the same spot. I never leave Toy Joy empty handed - theres always a great knickknack or gag toy for a loved one. Customer service is great too.
Em And River today I visited Toy Joy and these employees went above and beyond to make this experience great. Both of these employees deserve 10 stars. Very kind very great customer service and very knowledgeable on all the items in the store which made the experience way better when you had the great customer service that they do.
Great parking. Great staff and great store! So many things to see and they have a variety of things. My only complaint is that a lot of things are overpriced. There’s things I can buy on amazon and get it for way less, but it’s still a great store regardless! Kind of fun to look at all the toys, plushies and clothes they have.
This store is enchanting and filled with an eclectic variety of unusual toys. I highly recommend that anyone who has a child, knows a child, or knows someone with a child stop by here at least once to look around and see the sheer variety of toys on display here. Also, this is a fantastic place to shop for gifts for your nieces and nephews. If you want a gift that theyll love but dont know what kids are into these days this is a great place to find something that theyll love.
My sister brought our 3 year old autistic brother here to pick out a toy for his birthday (it’s a far drive by the way). Our brother has multiple conditions that prevent him from being able to wear a mask, also he is 3 years old and special needs, for crying out loud. They tried to go into the store and the employees were beyond rude, saying that he needed to wear a mask, despite his conditions. They turned them away and said he couldn’t get his birthday toy. I hope the employees of toy joy understand that they can be sued for that (not following the needs of someone with special needs).
This is a wonderful store to add to an outing, when you have free time just to explore Austin. There are amazing toys here that will delight just about everybody. We started our outing by enjoying some delicious food at a nearby restaurant, and then we spent at least half an hour in Toy Joy. Some of the toys took me right back to my childhood, and some of them were just wonderful and new. Things are there from every price range.
Wow! This store is super neat! And surprisingly organized for a toy store. A huge variety of toys for all age groups from babies to adults. My kid loooves luigis mansion and I found him a huge stuffed boo! He absolutely loves it. Not to mention its also tied in with a candy store which is awesome. So much to look at, not enough time or money in the world to spend in that place.
It was a dark day for Austin when the original Toy Joy on Guadalupe closed. While the new owners havent quite captured that same magic, I was super excited to see it re-open with much of the same quirky spirit as the old spot.On a basic level, its one of the best toy stores Ive been to, and much more accessible than the downtown location, which is probably a hair better, but those benefits are offset by the parking situation. Its an Austin essential, one of those indie shops that separates this city from similar places, and should be your first destination when you need a bizarre gift.
This place is full of dorks. Everybody has their own aesthetic and personality and they treat you like a friend. I come here every Monday to play D&D and Im never made to feel like an annoyance for just being at a table playing games in their shop. They have a great selection of candy and dice and other random stuff that youd have to find on some obscure website otherwise. The bathroom is clean and theres a man who stares at you and pressures you into washing your hands.
One of the Best Toy Stores. Lots of cool stuff, great atmosphere, friendly helpful staff, reasonably prices. And they have a sweet treats shop next door. Aand if thats not enough, Sweet Ritual, my absolute favorite Ice Cream Shop, is a few doors down. Totally worth a visit, its an Austin establishment!
I have spent hours in Toy Joy, touching hundreds of items, bringing back wonderful memories of a long ago childhood! I walk in having had an average day and walk out with joy in my heart and often a small bag of trinkets (usually for me).But Toy Joy is also the perfect place to find just the right gift for a child, a co-worker, a friend, a neighbor, a spouse, a best friend, a parent, etc. I have used Toy Joy for trinkets in gift bags for conventioneers, samples for workshops, classrooms, seminars, etc.The place to go for a last minute gift! Come see for yourself, bring your inner-child and have some fun!
Wow! This place has all the toys you have ever dreamed of as a child! You have to see this place to believe it! They have everything you can think of! Older toys in the original boxes, tons of figurines, tons of dolls, tons of Tonka Trucks & other equipment, I know Im leaving some genres of toys unmentioned...but if it exists I bet you can find it at Toy Joy. And Candy....Jelly Belly Jellybeans and tons of other great candy like you get at the theater. I took a picture of the Jelly Belly shelf. Two thumbs up for the Toy Joy! 👍👍
A spectacularly goofy place to discover new toys, revisit old classics, and lose yourself for an hour. Besides their dazzling array of toys and games, Toy Joy has an assortment of school/desk supplies, coloring books and crosswords, gag gifts, and utter nonsense that defies categorization. I dare you to step into this shop and walk out empty-handed.
Actually a nice little store for standard airport stores, selling a good range and variety of toys that are easy to packaway and transport for travel - from colorpens and pencils, puzzles and mazes, legos and different types of small, entertaining toys! A great little gift shop - youre sure to find a little something.
I was JUST there the earlier in the night as of date I am posting this. But I want to shout out to the gal that helped me out with a blind bag purchase, SUPPER friendly and helpful. Totally deserves recognition for her patience and understanding, but I was stupid and didnt get her name. The customer service at that location it always decent. I highly recommend this location over all others in the city. IMHO their selection is better than downtowns!
The store has a vast collection & Everyone is super amazing here.. Except for the guy with pink hair.. Out of all the reviews Ive done one not one complained about a particular person..that guy is the definition of whats wrong with people these days. Other then him, the staff is super sweet and very nice!
The staff did not care to help me try to find an age appropriate gift for my toddler grandson. Maybe if I was under the age of 30 or had a piercing or colored hair they would. This place is more like a Spencers than a Toys R Us. Messy, cramped store. Will not be coming back.
Doing a terrible job of keeping their customers- CHILDREN- safe during the pandemic. Doing the bare minimum to try and stay open so they dont have to file for bankruptcy again, is it worth the risk you guys? I had been supporting you for so long and was hoping you would have a heart.
An Austin institution. You can get lost here finding cute, fun little treasures and tchotchkes all the time. Plus, they run game nights that are super friendly. Dungeons and Dragons on Mondays, board games on Wednesdays, and Magic the Gathering on Fridays. Fantastic store!
It was meh. Really underwhelming. Not much in the unique variety. Just cheap trinkets and novelty items. I saw several items that I have purchased at the dollar tree marked up to 9.99. Absurd. Cute store. Friendly staff. But hot topic and Walmart have all these items without the heavy markup.
Unimpressive, overpriced Chinese goods!! Unique items, sure, and if they didnt have such a huge mark up on cheaply made goods and food items then it wouldnt be so bad but both at this store and in the Austin airport it is SO OVERPRICED!! Dont waste your time unless you enjoy a pretentious environment where you will waste your money. Heck, you could buy direct from China and it would be cheaper. Just look up Ali Baba or even take a shot at Amazon and see if you find what you are looking for. Sorry, but it is the truth.
I was not greeted when walking in. Employees seemed to avoid me despite the store not being busy at all (I counted 3 employees and 2 other customers browsing at the time of my visit; I greeted them but no greeting back upon entering the store) :( Item selection was great but some items were priced well above their value (non-Limited Edition nor rare JJBA SAS figures selling for $90 when their base value is ¥3-5,000 ($30-$50)). I understand imports can have markup but more than twice the markup on several Japanese items and figures plus the lack of friendliness was really disappointing :( Maybe this was an off-day to visit but I really hope others have better luck here.

2021-10-20Great customer service at this location! The best place to find gifts for adults and kids, or something for yourself! I messaged them through Google maps to see if they carry stickers and they replied within the hour. They have a great sticker selection, btw. When I was in store, the manager and other employee helped me to find what I needed. Its always fun to visit especially since I live out of state. If you live in Austin, please visit this store!!!

2022-01-17A sadly am being a curmudgeon here because it aint what it used to be. And Im just old school. I really liked the store on Guadalupe better. I dont need all the stuffed animals. It was much more fun going into the room with all the glow in the dark fixtures pieces animals dinosaurs etc and just the other fun stuff like colored rabbits feet and weird back scratchers and puzzles. They were there but on a much more filtered level. I think probably a good place to buy a gift but not the place that used to be where I used to go in and spend hours pouring over curious George and the weird windup pickles that could walk. Not disliking you toy joy just wish it was back the way it was. Kudos

2022-05-05New school and old school toys and board games inside. As well small knick-knacks. Cute store, and the workers there seemed friendly enough. There is also a small section with lots of fancy chocates to choose from. Temptation is working overtime there. Check it out toy lovers and geeks of all ages.

2019-03-05Wow, this is hands down the best toy store Ive ever been in. The variety of toys is perfect. They have everything from high end collectables, to gag gifts. Books, trinkets, plushies, cards, boardgame, you name it and they most likely will have it.The store even has a candy shop portion. I dont think there is a better combination of stores. The prices are more than fair, and there is bound to be something that catches your eye. A great places for gifts, or just a leisurely gander.

2020-01-23This might be my favorite place in Austin, no joke. It is wonderful. I wish it was a little cheaper, but Im not complaining, it could be a lot worse. Dont get me wrong, the prices arent outrageous or anything I just LOVE everything in it and want all of it. As others have said, the new location is great, I loved the last location but parking was a monster. At the airport location parking is a breeze and there is a cool vintage store next door called Newbo. The center it is in also features Sweet Rituals vegan ice cream shop, a great vape shop, All About Vape, Dominos, The Omelettry, and The Grand a cool pool hall/bar as well as several other businesses that I have not been to. Oh and In and Out Burger is the next business over. So make an afternoon of it.
