Fell in love with this place! Expect to spend some time exploring all the Nick backs, paintings, and one of a kind items. Picture perfect and well organized.Staff was patient and friendly, held my stuff in a cubby so I could show without dropping anything. Jewelry to butterfly wings to skeleton keys and glass blown sculptures.
Amazing store and wonderful staff. fun to wander around and look at all the vintage and antique items. they have a wide range of items and prices. some things are very pricey, while others are more reasonable- just keep hunting if you are looking for something to bring home. staff were wonderful and kind.
What a fun place! Hands down the best antique shop we have been to. Wonderfully curated finds, some at surprisingly great prices. If you don’t go to shop, go to just enjoy the weirdness that abounds! Random taxidermy all over and often comical. Some areas organized on color schemes and others on different “themes” if you will. Staff were friendly and ready to lend a hand if you are in search of anything in particular.
What an outstanding and eclectic selection of items this place has! Some really cool stuff and all quite well curated. They have done a great job carving out spaces that have connected objects and everthing looks quite textural. Employees are friendly and ready to help with questions or finding things. Parking is a minor hassle but the place makes up for it!
A comfortable little antique shop. Everything is laid out well and everything clearly labeled and priced. From section to section the prices range from fair to unreasonable, luckily mostly fair. Some joker wants 90 dollars for an old stick. Not a walking cane mind you, a stick. That irked me but everything else was great. Lots of strange items too. Fun conversation pieces and worrisome signs of an onset of early dementia. Something for everyone!
The coolest store ever! I am a Grav3yardgirl fan, so of course when we moved too texas, it was on my bucketlist of things to see and do!Really enjoyed our time there seeing all the neat, quirky, antique items. The store is stocked floor to ceiling of goodies. So make sure your eyes wander ALL over!
This is a wonderful quaint place to spend the day. There are more things to look at than one visit will justify. The building is deceptively small looking from the outside, but there is plenty to look at as you wind you way in and around toward the back. The staff is very helpful but not pushy. Come for a quick look or stay awhile. Also there is something on Sundays...
Cool store! This location had some parking space but it seemed scarce. We got lucky to catch someone pulling out but I would be aware of the parking situation if you are making a special trip here. The stuff inside was very interesting! Lots of oddities. Definatly pricey merchandise so if you are coming with the intent of purchasing I would be sure to save up a little money. We walked around and admired the wares and felt like it was worth checking out while visiting the city! Who knows, maybe you will find that thing that you never knew you needed. Theres plenty of stuff to choose from!
If you are looking for a cavernous antique store to get lost in for an hour, you’ve found it! They have everything you can think of in here including antique and vintage items you’ve never thought of; Old Cameras, old glass pieces, old photos, old figurines, tiny metal dollhouse like furniture, old film canisters, old signs and posters, jewelry, wood boxes, metal jewelry boxes, wood ink block stamps, compasses, bowls, cups, toys, pencil sharpeners, desks, chairs, and the list goes on.I highly recommend checking this place out. Even just to look. Prices can range from fairly cheap antiques to really really expensive antique pieces like an old Japanese sign I saw that was like $300 (if I had the money, totally would have bought it). There is parking in the back and the people who work there and the owner are very friendly!
I put 4 stars because its insanely expensive. If you come here with less than $100 to blow, youll be disappointed. However, just the experience of walking around endlessly looking at truly uncommon objects was amazing. Theres a perfect dog hanging around who by himself is a reason to visit. The staff were very kind.
This is such a wonderful antique store. Its the ONE place my mom has to go every time she visits me in Austin. It is so incredibly well-curated. I have about five pieces of their artwork filling my apartment. Gorgeous art and really competitive prices. They will continue to get our business!
We make it to Austin about once a year ans we always stop by to see whats uo. This was our first time at the new location. Just as entertaining and interesting as ever. I left with a new pair of earings this visit. I love places that are open to negotiation. The seller of my earrings was easily reached by the store and I left happy.
Cool stuff! Went for their monthly flea market. Some of the sellers were asking unbelievably high prices that didnt match the quality of the item. Other sellers were spot on with their pricing. Make sure to look at every stall before you buy, youll be able to see whos overpriced and whos spot on.
Color-coded curated perfection! I dont k ow if people know how difficult it is for antique/thrift/consignment shops to curate unique objects and display them in a way that allows for storytelling and design, but its not easy. Uncommon Objects did such a fantastic job of mixing quirky, ethereal and practical objects all together.I was tethered to each section by the color blocking, and it allowed me to take a longer look at the items that interested me because I could tell that there was intention behind the placement of these objects.Normally I get overwhelmed seeing that much stuff in one place, but I actually felt a sense of calm, so kudos UO, aesthetically you knocked it out of the park for me!
An Austin must go attraction. This place is filled with so many blasts from the pasts itll trigger all kinds of fun memories as well as oddities that tickle your fancy. I highly recommend for a quick run through. Who knows? Perhaps youll find a treasure or 2.... or 3... 😁
Extremely rude virtue-signaling, mask mandators who dont who dont know how to ask nicely that their customers to do them a favor and wear a mask if they want to spend money in their store and keep them from closing. Nah. I will go next door to Far Out where the staff is kind.
Amazing antique store, probably one of the best that I have ever been to! The thing that I love the most is the organization of the whole store, with its color code and theme for all its items. Lastly, there would have been more purchased if the prices might have been more affordable, but that didn’t stop me from buying items all together.
If you like oddities and collecting 20th century antiques youll enjoy this. Theres a market out back that happens once a month. Prices seem over the top for the condition theyre in and feels like most of its junk people are trying to sell. Perhaps that might be a project youre willing to invest in.
I love this antique store! The place is organized, clean, and filled with interesting, historical items. The store is definitely a step-up from other antique stores in the area. One downside, though, is the prices. Overall, the prices are pretty reasonable. However, the prices are still pretty high. This is especially true for specific items like globes. All in all, I 100% recommend a visit to this place if youre spending a day in Austin.
So glad they have just moved and are not gone! Their new location is much more easy to get to, better parking, and even a once a month Flea Market the last Sunday of every month! Always find a treasure (or two) there. Was a monthly place to visit when we lived here, now make a habit of stopping by whenever we are in town! Stop by you wont regret it!
Fantastic store in Austin for all things Uncommon! Its a great size and has a ton of awesome vendors. The staff is lovely and help you with any needs. They have a great election of vintage decor and Sterling silver. Highly recommend this store as I am a vintage dealer in Charleston, SC and this place really steps it up from your average antique mall.
Pretty cool when it comes to looking at antiques. Some stuff looks creepy, but good creepy. A lot of things are expensive but what can you expect when it comes to an antique store. Nicely organized and staff is friendly.Came here because my fiancee wanted to. Sometimes there is no parking out front but you can just park across the street.
Such a cool place!!! I didn’t end up buying anything when I went, but it was just fun to walk around. Try to go when they have the flea market out back and you’ll find some even more cool unique stuff!! I was visiting Austin with some friends and they went once then wanted to go again and talked me into it, so glad I went! A one of a kind place.
This is absolutely one of the best antique stores Ive visited. The selection of pieces is both extensive and whimsical. My family and I had a great time walking through and the staff were very pleasant and helpful with any questions we had for them. If youre in Austin, you really need to take an hour or so to check out Uncommon Objects. Its a blast.
The place definitely lives up to its name. I have been to some other antique stores but this place has some really bizarre items that I have never seen elsewhere. Unfortunately almost everything was ridiculously overpriced. I found an old fashioned Kodak camera identical to the one I bought at a different antique store a year ago. The one I bought was $20 and the one that was for sale here was $60. For a camera thats very old, probably doesnt work, and doesnt have film, Im sorry but that price is ridiculous. The staff wasnt very nice and werent around much. There also wasnt much room to park in the parking lot, unless you want to park in the mud.Besides that, its a very interesting place and is fun to look around in. I wouldnt recommend buying anything and instead just going into it as more of a museum.
Fun little shop to explore! There are so many unique items and I love that they organize by color. I spent about an hour exploring and could have spent more time if didn’t have my little one with me. Some items seemed a little high in price but I suppose it’s because they are highly sought after. Worth checking out for sure though!
While it definitely has some uncommon objects, it also has a ton of typical antique store jazz, and plenty of very common objects which were probably dug out of someone’s basement. Yes, there is a giant stuffed mastiff and some bizarre fare from bygone ages, but there’s also tons of common things which are just old. My disappointment may binge on the fact this store made several lists of “must visit” places, and it wasn’t incredibly different than most of the antique stores in our area, minus a few truly interesting pieces. As a normal antique store, I would give it a 5*, but as a place which is supposed to be so unique...I wasn’t that impressed.
Definitely pricey, but what a wide array of items to browse and peruse! Each section of the shop is almost an art installation inandof itself. Postcards are scattered throughout, providing glimpses into the past. This is a beautiful store that you should set aside sometime to really view and appreciate.
This place as this request states in asking me to give my opinion is lame in comparison to the unigue quality of a plethora of really Uncommon Objects I saw and touched in my 20 minutes of exploring so many truly amazingly items. If you are looking to remodel or just change your home look, then please go there and see first hand the items that might enhance your life and home.
The new location is just as well organized as the old location on South Congress. Each area is color coordinated which is pleasing to the eye. Its fun to just wander and browse. They mostly have decorative items, collectables, small pieces of furniture and lots of jewelry. There is extra parking in the back which is great because there are only about 5 spots in front and no street parking.
I can spend hours wandering this store. So many weird things to look at and cool displays. It does get crowded, though, and people get pushy and dont respect personal space. Its best to just wait it out in a corner when it gets like that so you can spend the time you want checking things out thoroughly rather than be pushed through by a crowd in a rush.
Uncommon objects? Maybe if you are a hipster. Not an antique store in the traditional sense. Geared more towards high end already refurbished stick it and call your self cool objects. I was looking for an antique shop and had to check this out. Dont expect to get parking anywhere near and do expect to pay triple if not more than what you would find at any other antique store.Layout was nice though the extreme tangle of surge protectors attached to the ceiling powering about 50 fans and countless clip on lights struck me as a fire hazard. But Im not a fire Marshall so who knows. For the people looking to actually go antiquing...dont go here. It is a shop that finds random objects aka a ship wheel and paints it white and charges 600 dollars for. No restoration...just something quick for the upper class to buy and throw in the foyer for decoration.Staff were friendly and the item grouping was excellent.
The Austin pinnacle of originality and eccentricity. I would describe it as part antique/home decor store, and part museum. Each item/object is unique and evokes a different era. For that reason, this is a great place to go if you have a specific design/purpose in mind. Personally, I find it really easy to lose focus in the store because there are so many cool things. I end up walking out with an antique Jack-in-the-Box, an Art Deco vase, and a postcard of a Native American man and wonder, What did I go in there to buy?My point being, the items in this store are amazing, and its very easy to want to buy everything! Best to go in with a strategy. Hoarders beware.
The only words that describe this place is Intergalactic Garage Sale. There is something for everyone here. From classic antiques to weird what the hell is that? Items.I always leave with some knicknack or bauble when I visit and am never disappointed. If you are looking to own a conversation starter or simply add to your collection stop by and give these lovely people a holler.
Cant wait to come back to Austin just to visit all their wonderful vintage stores, this being one of them!It is amazing and awesome and the things you can find here are such a wide range I dont even know where to begin, seriously ha.I havent bought furniture here and not totally sure on if they sell it and what that whole thing looks like. Also unsure if they consign or anything like that. I did get some very cute authentic vintage scarves that were in great condition and clean. I was impressed by this shop and a thankful for it as well!
Great Austin antique market. Its a staple of the Austin experience. They feature an excellently curated selection of fine goods, art, and some really far out stuff. It can be over priced, but the rare inexpensive treasure youve always hoped for is hidden in there somewhere.
Lots of interesting stuff, but nothing priced in my range of impulse item purchases. I used to visit every time I walked south Congress with out of town visitors. After a while, it just seemed like a museum that Ive been to too many times. This is a great place for someone looking to decorate a house or just imagining.
I love this place. I rated it 4 out of 5 mainly because when it comes to asking anything about the vendors or managers most of the staff will not share or connect you to them. Even if its a question that the staff can not answer. If this isnt the case and its only me who has been through this then maybe Im wrong, but this has happened more than 3 times over the course of the year. Great place, but odd protocols for questions and inquiries.
Very cool store. It is a lot larger than it looks. There were not as many uncommon things as I would have expected, but it didnt really matter because there is so much to look at! My husband and I spent at least an hour in there, and I know I probably missed several things. The prices fluctuate depending on the vendor, but mostly they are reasonable prices.
Cool place for finding lots of oddities. That being said, lots of the items are overpriced. Ive noticed that as one travels further east in Texas, prices for antiques and the like go up. There were a lot of things I saw that are the same items Ive seen in West Texas, and the markup was insane. As Im writing this, an ostrich egg comes to mind. At this place the price was 26 and some change. In a place in Midland there were a bunch in a bowl for 4.50 each. Caveat emptor.
Not a huge antique person, but this place was amazing. Got two signed serigraphs at an awesome price. Staff was friendly and very helpful, especially with figuring out the best shipping option for me that was safe and economical. They will be moving to a new location, but my wife and I will be sure to visit if we are in Austin again.
We stopped in to browse their collection while waiting for another business to open. Im very glad we did. The name of the business is appropriate. While some of the objects are common, there are many that are uncommon. We had a wonderful time poking around all the things they had for sale. The staff were friendly, but not intrusive.
Hate to say it but this place has an undeserved positive reputation. This is supposed to be a unique cool place. I was expecting to find decent vintage objects, but really the store is just full of over-priced junk. And the employees that work here were incredibly rude and a bit snobby. They are literally just selling junk and calling it vintage. Extremely disappointed. I am going to go back and see if maybe I just came on a bad day ... one where the employees had mistaken their own trash for inventory and were angry about it...? Who knows...
Really fun to go look at as a sort of museum for weird and strange antiques, but it is exorbitantly overpriced (much more than most antique stores in my opinion). However, I did splurge and I bought a piece of jewelry as a gift. I like supporting local businesses, I just think its too expensive to go there very often. FYI, no strollers allowed, and dont bring your young kids as there are so many breakable items.
I wanted to take home everything! Much of it was well out of my budget but I found some adorable little gifty things for under $20. My friend was searching for a vintage cake serving set and found a few contenders, the most expensive being $55. Saw artwork that went up to $5000 + so it seemed like a cool spot for vintage collectors of all persuasions.
I was there with other family members this afternoon. What a fun place to browse and shop! I have never seen a more ecclectic collection of items. It could have been a shop from a Harry Potter book or an inter galactic gift shop. Probably thousands of unique art and household items from all over the world and many decades. Well worth the trip from San Antonio. If you’re in Austin, don’t miss it!
What a treasure this place is! After hearing about it for years I finally was able to make it out to Austin and over to Uncommon. Im not even sure how much time I spent walking around in here, so glad my friend was down to go too. So much to look at and I cant imagine how much new stuff must come in. Top bad Im not even close to local.
This is a great local antique and curio shop nestled in the heart of the famed SoCo district. It is fun to simply browse their extensive collection, especially when your name is on the wait list for any of the numerous restaurants surrounding the store. The staff is always very friendly and passionate about the store, and they are helpful if you happen to be looking for something specific. Have fun, and always come back- the collections change once or twice per month.
Cool place, I wish there was a place like this back home but I think thats part of experience. I bought a counter clockwise advertising clock for a driveshaft shop in Houston for $45. I think that was pretty fair compared to some of the prices on the other cool stuff I spotted.
This is a neat store and the staff were very friendly but the items are *very* overpriced. I think with all the different vendors pricing ranges wildly, but everything I picked up to look at a price tag was way too high. Its the type of store you have to go to often if you want to find a good deal. Nice to visit while in town but I didnt buy anything.
To call this store Quirky is an understatement. There’s truly something for everybody to question pulling out their wallets. The collection of goods ranges from: antique coffee cups, taxidermy creatures, a wall of pendulum clocks, prosthetic glass eyes, a massive jewelry case with pieces from across the world & time with some wonderful works made by artists of today, porcelain figurines of every variety, as well as skeletons of many common animals too, to name a few things you’ll find (; UNCOMMON OBJECTS is definitely worth a look around if you have the time (but be warned if you like to look at everything in detail, expect to spend about 2 hours)
A must visit on South Congress.Loved how this store was organized, the color blocking and setup made it easy to navigate and find unique treasures like a hippo skull, jackalope, antique fishing weights and much more. Prices are reasonable, if I knew this place existed before coming to Austin I would have prepared for shipping a few things home!
One of the best time killing places in Austin. If youre actually looking to buy a bunch of stuff, bring your checkbook. Its not a cheap place, but they really do have some interesting and bizarre stuff. They do flea markets, be on the lookout for that to catch deals. If youre in the area for a while, check out Far Out Furniture and End of an Ear. Casino bar is a good time as well.
Pretty much a SoCo tourists museum of quirky old stuff instead of an actual antique shop.Kind of cool to walk through for 20 minutes but nothing had the appearance of being on sale despite the price tags. Its almost as if the store deliberately overpriced everything as a way of preserving the neat arrangements of all their display booths.
The staff were very pleasant and helpful.... But the best part was that it truly lived up to its name. The things were not generally so uncommon that you could not figure out what they were or what they were used for, however, they were not your run-of-the-mill antiques store items either.
I was shocked and incredibly disappointed at how much racist paraphernalia they were selling. Blackface figurines, old postcards with racial slurs, stereotyped depictions of Indigenous people, and things that looked like cultural artifacts that should not be sold. I love quirky antique places, and even found things here I would have liked to buy, but I refuse to financially support a business that chooses to profit off of racism. Im sure the lost profit from choosing to not sell those items wouldnt tank your business or shut you down, so is it really worth it?
Its a neat little place to look around in, though chances are you wont find anything you want to buy. Its super cool to browse all the old objects they have and to look through old pictures, but even things which seem super simple are expensive to actually buy. Its worth dropping by and looking around for a half hour or so but thats probably it.
This place truly dose earn its name with anything form typewriters to stuffed bunnies they have it all. This shop really is what gives austin its name for being weird. The service is pretty good they are supper friendly and its always fun to go in even if you dont necessarily want to buy something.
This place is an adventure in itself. I have spent a lot of time looking at antiques from generations past. I do feel like the prices are a bit high. Though I have found the occasional piece that is priced perfectly and I have to have. It is a toss up most days if I will leave with something.
I was expecting weirder stuff, like a shop that focused entirely on weird things. But instead it felt more like a simple pawn shop that really liked selling antiques. Not much in here was what I would call uncommon beyond the fact that its all old junk that nobody makes anymore, or handmade stuff, mostly art pieces.
This is such a fun store to visit. Words dont do it justice - just go and experience it for yourself! If you want to see what kind of stuff they have, just do a Google image search for Uncommon Objects Austin. I wish they could have stayed at the old location on S. Congress but Im sure the rent was insanely high.
Overpriced Junk.......The place is well organized and you can find very interesting things But NOT good quality antiques, prices are a bit high for what they have. The people running it are kind of unfriendly and follow you constantly as if you are going to steal the old junk. They spoiled the experience of shopping for unique items
Everything is ridiculously overpriced. Nearly everything is marked up twice as much more than its actual value. Most things being sold have little to no monetary value but are still being sold for outrageous prices. A very trendy store rather than an actual antique store.
I love anything vintage & antique! My fiancé & I walked around for a bit. LOTS TO LOOK AT! my mom loves vintage as well! So I always take pictures of items to ask her if shes Interested! This rude old lady with purple hair comes and says no pictures allowed! With an attitude. Ok lady chill. There was plenty I wanted to buy but we ended up walking out because she was so rude. Theres a nice and a rude way to say this type of thing. She was very rude. BeautifulStore- lots to see....BEWARE of old purple headed lady.
I prefer to rate the positive because I always feel that if you had a great experience you never write about it but if it was horrible youll write 3 pages of that experience.Ive been waiting a long time for a planned trip to Austin and always would find this store as the things to do so my wife was really excited. We have a six month old baby that was sleeping in his stroller, we walk in to the store to be stopped by a rude employee that tells us if we wanted to come in, pick up our sleeping baby and leave the stroller behind the counter.Disappointed, my wife says lets go. This was the third store to reject us because of our stroller. Crazy how everything is Keep Austin Weird and you cant accept a normal family of three in vacation...
If you wanna get really deep, I could tell you how Uncommon Objects is a huge collection of the most common objects ever. A living catalog of the American experience, littered with turn-of-the-century typewriters to hand-written postcards that originated somewhere in the rust belt and probably meant the world for the intended, but now exist as a curious oddity to you or I.But then again, Uncommon Objects is just a really cool store that could easily double as a museum, and everything is for sale, and makes for some really inventive, offbeat gifts or great additions to any vintage-minded home decorator. Everything, from every era, lines the shelves, hangs on the walls, and gives the place a truly lived-in feel, not unlike the countless stories and untold tales behind the objects themselves. Its the kind of place that could stir your memory (maybe your Grandfather had one of these way back when) or unlock totally uncharted waters (seriously, there are pieces of old medical equipment that look like alien autopsy tools - youll appreciate modern day healthcare a lot more after seeing them), but best of all, its the kind of place that gives our past a present.
Uncommon OBJECTS is one of my three favorite antique shops in town. I suppose its technically one of my two favorites, since Room Service is vintage, but lets not go splitting hairs here.HOWEVER--much like my three children, I could never, EVER choose a favorite...and I spend *way* too much money on all of them. Of my favorite three old junk shops, though, Uncommon most lives if to its name. It truly is un-freaking-common.You can walk into this shop and find anything and everything that could possibly qualify as antique, collectible, rare, vintage, old, odd, curious, macabre, kitsch, junk; it just goes on. Over the years, the shop has (wo)manned by some of Austins best and a lot of the folks working there are familiar faces. The space is a really nice size, much larger than it appears (both from the outside and upon entry), and houses wares from 24 unique vendors. Co-owners Steve Wiman and Dette Cole have cultivated what they refer to as an aesthetically mature retail environment, and I cant think of a better way to describe the store. Uncommon has such personality and character, it quite nearly breathes. Some of the ephemera appear to be half-alive as well, full of a life blood that was never meant to keep them around for quite so long.
Lots of knicky knacks. Its a store that has mini areas for people that collect antiques and uncommon objects to sell collectively. This is a type of store, I have been in a lot, but never one quite this hip and nice. perhaps its the south Congress address that adds to the eclecticity of the space. Allow time for this store should you go in, lots to look at, you could be there for a while.

2022-05-31There’s something for everyone in this store. It felt like a museum tour of the past; so much history in such unique objects. The $$$ sign it’s true, but it was a great experience and the staff was great.

2021-06-20This place has aisles and aisles of all kinds of interesting finds. It’s much more creative than an average antiques shop and way more vintage than a normal home decor place. There’s wall hangings, belt buckles, stairs, old wooden and metal boxes, jewelry, tools, stuffed trophy animal heads, signs - kind of something for everyone. Like a curated fascinating garage sale but giant. Pictures may help because there’s too much variety to describe in words. Fun to visit and great place to get a memorable and special one of a kind gift for someone whatever their interests.

2022-03-12Such a cool store I had an awesome time there. The items are rather pricy but fun to look at.

2022-05-24I love this place and consider it a must visit when in Austin. Some items are pricey but there’s relative bargains to be had too … and the quality is there. It’s also beautifully arranged and styled, like a little museum of the people‘s objects. Staff were kind when a display tumbled down on me. I will be back soon! If you can’t find something to take home, the problem isn’t the store 😉

2021-07-26Uncommon Flea market is very unique. Popular and with an interesting variety of merchants and merchandise. Dont miss August flea market and meanwhile start getting in the mood by visiting Uncommon Objects.

2022-04-30Great “stuff.” I did not think prices were high like some reviews have stated. With regard to rudeness of salespeople, I disagree. I ran late and they kept the store open a little longer for me. I loved shopping here and love the merchandise. It’s definitely a fun destination.

2021-03-27This place is incredible. Ive seen so much about it before but never visited even though I live in San Antonio. Im so glad I finally made the trip over with my husband because this is one of the coolest places Ive ever been to. Will definitely be back many more times!

2022-01-31Always great to visit and see what they have. I just wish I could afford it
