Walked in the door and the girl at front desk didnt even acknowledge us, she just stared at her computer. A second employee walked right past us without even so much as a hello. When then walked over to a counter with comic books sitting on top. I picked one up to show my daughter and third employee rudely said those arent for sale yet!. Then why are they out? Needless to say, we left and will not be returning.
Still haven’t gotten an answer or my money back, this store is a scam you can get the same comics at other stores even online for better price and get them on time. I ordered in April and still no comics. The exclusives aren’t worth it. Don’t get comics from this place.
Ridiculously BAD experience! One excuse after another for BAD policies! Just another high profile seller who cares very little for customer satisfaction and more for the almighty dollar! Not against a business making money, thats why they exist but, screwing customers through deception for the sake of sales is a horrible way to do business. Buy 3 get 3 free Christmas Sale was a TOTAL LIE!!! I NEVER RECEIVED ONE SINGLE FREE COMIC for this sham sale. When I called in to complain, I received a bunch of runaround type excuses for not getting my books. Online customer service was terrible and I am being kind. The auditor (Alicia) should be fired! She is a horrible person to deal with. Sarah is nicer but well trained in excuses as well. She actually told me I was receiving 37 free comics for the BOGUS Christmas sale and was obviously lying to me. NOT customer oriented in any way. They will lure you in through clever email marketing and sales that are bogus, in order to use (your hard earned money) to finance their overhead/expenses. Meanwhile, you wait....and wait....and wait...and wait for your order to arrive. When you finally receive it, you realize youve been SCAMMED. This company uses USPS tyvek envelopes (free items but are meant to be used properly via the postal service) to wrap your orders. These envelopes are free and are being misused by this company. Geez, a company this big cannot afford to buy these similar tyvek envelopes from wholesale packaging companies???? What does that tell you????????? they are $20.00 for a pack of 100 at most distributors. $20.00 freakin dollars. CMON MAN! Avoid their sham sales or buy at your own risk. DO BUSINESS THE RIGHT WAY and stop cheating us.
Ive ordered from them with no problems like 4 or 5 times. Great products.My most recent order put a bad taste in me.The book was released on 8/16. Got a shipping email on 8/25. Understandably late. No problem.3 weeks later. Still no package, no tracking updates, no communication at all. I had to call in today 9/17. Customer service rep just says theyll check with the shipping dept what happened and send out replacements if missing.To me, thats like bare minimum customer service. They didnt seem apologetic or eager to make things right or make it up to the customer. Like they barely cared.Ill probably still order cause the products are great...not because of the company itself.For reference, order # 206009, 3 books.Update 9/25/2021. Finally received the books 1 month after they supposedly sent out. No communication from them. No apology. No explanation. No attempt to compensate the customer for their time. Terrible customer service.
Ordered books online, 1 was shipped damaged, emailed, called, messaged for a manager to address the issue. Was hung up on twice, refused to have a manager talk to me, or even message me. Absolutely the worst customer service Ive ever experienced. Took over a month to receive my order and then it was shipped damaged. Absolute incompetence, hailey was very rude and refused to help. Was told the managers name is Chris, but refused to have him contact me. Told me to rip the cover off the damaged book instead of just emailing a return label. I will never order from them again.
I dealt with them on two different purchases. Both were horrible experience. 1st purchase was a book released 8 months prior to purchase, took over two months for them to ship the book. The second comic came in with a horrible spine crease to where the top page is torn.
Great selection of comic books, both be releases and collectors issues. If you play d&d, they have every manual and campaign guide you could need along with figurines and cool dice. They have a wide array of rp board games and even host game nights in store. The store was very clean and not crowded or cluttered at all!
Been ordering thousands of dollars worth of comics from them online. I only had one issue once, but the response from “customer service” was extremely lacking. I will try to cancel some future orders that have been a loooong time in but haven’t been shipped, but I suspect that they will not work with me. The most expensive book I ordered in my order had three very visible spine distresses that made the book pretty much worthless. Thanks for nothing. Will never buy anything from these jokers again. Good luck if you decide to.
Unfortunately I have spent a lot of money in the last year on their online site…and now I am done. I have received books that have several spine tics that break color with stains on them. They throw out their 9.2 clause even though the books I received are barely an 8.5. Another time I received an order where all books were in really bad shape. They expect u to take pictures of the shipping box and all its corners, invoice and all books. There wasn’t a scratch or dent on the box but CS said it was the post office’s fault and to file a claim with them. Bottom line, if you have any issues with your order…you are on your own.
Ive been ordering from these guys for almost two years. Thousands of dollars in weekly orders, and, as I can see in the comments, I had the same problem as everyone else: complete lack of communication, really rude answers, AND LONG AND ANNOYING DELAYS FOR SHIPMENTS. Just buy to another store.
This place is wow. Long live the nerd king, I was not expecting to see a comic book store that complete in a smaller city like amarillo. They have a little bit of everything and the space is so well decorated. Comics for every genre and collectibles that any comic book store will like to have. The staff is well verse and they have their own collection of comics with art covers from artist they themselves commission. One thing to mention, those comics that have commissioned artist are a tad pricier than what you would normally pay, but the art is so good they can make great wall art once you finish reading them.
Seriously, if you are even slightly into tabletop games or MtG this should be your go-to place. Weekly in looking for comics but was met with more w40k supplies than is ever seen in one store. Noticed multiple card tables near the back so those who want to play for fnm or warh have a comfortable space. Great store with staff that wasnt pushy to make a sale like some smaller shops.
Agree with a lot of the info other reviews here. Ordered a fairly expensive item. Books were damaged - customer service quoted the 9.2 rule. Books were 8.5 max. Customer service was absolutely horrible - quick replies with telling me what I did wrong. I would tell artists not to work with them either as their take on customer service will damage the industry.
Love this place. Staff is great and very helpful, theyvhave all the gaming stuff you need from 40k to starwars, board games and tabletop. Im not a comic guy really but they have a massive selection and they do release orders. Theres space to play in the back which is always a plus and that folks that Ive had the fortune to play with have been great people.
Buyer Beware.Bought some raw books from this company that were damaged on the spine from top to bottom. They will not exchange or refund your money. They hide behind a clause on their site that says their books will be 9.2 or greater. It’s up to you to spend the time and money to prove them wrong and then you probably still wouldn’t get compensated for sending your book to cgc, an exchange or a refund. Emails are answered in a timely fashion by them… only to tell you they are right and you are wrong so deal with it. Shop elsewhere. There are better shops with better service.Pictures are of spine damage and chips of paper missing on the spine. Picture missing of the pulled staple through the cover about 70%.
No prices on any of the expensive things. Annoying tactic that some places use so that when youve brought it up to the front to ask you feel more compelled to buy it maybe or sheer laziness. Extreme lack of inventory. The place looks like an abandoned shop in an apocalyptic retail world that has been ransacked by a group of marauding nerds. One person asked if we needed help while everyone else just stared at us or chatted as if we werent even there. That part I liked. I hate being bothered every five feet by an employee if I need help.
All comics were neatly packaged and alphabetical order this was my first time ever going to a comic book/graphic novel store, but I didnt even need help looking for what I wanted the layout is great. Customer service was excellent they didnt talk much they just gave me my books and didnt ask unnecessary questions even answered my one question very respectfully. Ten of ten would go here again
My first experience with this place was wonderful a few years back. I started buying books again and stopped by since they left a good first impression. Staff acted incredibly put out to be helping a customer. I asked for availability of back issues and was told they would check and get back with me. Havent heard anything since and havent had a response to an online inquiry of a separate order. Moved my business to midtown comics and TFAW. They let bad attitudes run off quite a few customers.
Bought a comic in the beginning of December. After more than two months they still never shipped it out. I call and am told they will investigate and call me back. After a few days of no call back I send an email. They respond saying they cant find the comic to ship out and are searching for it. I found this unprofessional, they should have contacted me to let me know instead of waiting months to the point I have to contact them. So after two more weeks and no comic I send another email asking for it to be sent out or give me a refund. I hear nothing back but then see on my bank record I got the refund. They offered no apology. Company is very unprofessional and should learn basic manners towards their customers.
I was sent the wrong product, an easy mistake to fix. I contacted the seller, they asked for pictures of the packaging, and a picture of the box. I was happy to send them proof of what I bought from them. It has been 7 days since I sent them the proof of their mistake, asking for a return. In 7 days there has been no communication, like they are ignoring the issue. Dont buy here. They will send wrong product, and refuse to communicate a return. $100 of mine was wasted, without even an explanation why.
So I have 4 different orders with them online through the website. When i placed these orders, the shipping time said 8-10 days. I gave them 12 days, then sent a message via facebook. No response. Instead, they posted a live video about their shipping times talking about how it will take 4-6 weeks for shipping, and that they are understaffed to handle the online orders. Yet, they do live video sales and are able to ship those out faster? So I did review checks on them, and come to find out, that some orders could take up to a half a year, (non cgc books and non pre orders)? So Im wondering if i should go the route to ask for a refund for the online store sales? If they know that it takes them months to ship IN STOCK items, then they should not take your money until they ship like other comic stores online. But yet again, looking at reviews, they seem to beat around the bush on this as well or just simply not respond. These reviews go back at least 2 years. You would figure that they would get the online store shipping set up figured by then. Any suggestions?
Absolute thieving opportunists...reported to Better Business Bureau. If youve been cheated by Darren Hutchinson and Unknown Comic Books, then reach out to the artists on their social media, who offer exclusives through this place and tell them how youve been treated. Ask them not to work with the shop because it embarrasses them, collectors, and enthusiasts alike.
Don’t buy from these guys online. They’ll send you damaged books and won’t respond after multiple messages. The fact that they are selling exclusive covers and are not picking out the best copies when they ship is ridiculous. It’s not like they sold out of the comics I bought. The listing is still on eBay. People that buy exclusive covers are collectors and want the very best. Receiving two comics with large bends in them is not collector quality. In total I ordered 8 comics from them. They all had soft corners and two had large bends on the top right corner. Very disappointed!
Ordered a com ic book in August 2019, it was suppose to ship to me by November 2019!! I did not receive it. It is now almost April 2020 and I still do not have it. Unknown Comics keeps blaming the grading company, they dons care because they have my money!!!! I think this is a shady company that cannot be trusted!!!! Plus they refuse to give a refund. Unknown Comics does not stand behind their CUSTOMER!!! Do not order from them!! File complaints with the Better Business Bureau and your states Community Affairs Department!!
Much more concerned with being an exclusive cover retailer than a comic book store.Free shipping started at $75, went up to $85 then finally $100 all with zero notice to existing customers.Existing customers then lost the ease of buying those exclusives and have them added to a monthly pull list and shipped at no additional cost. They just wanted to charge double shipping.I was a monthly pull bag customer for more than a year and in total, I received 0 correct invoices. Zero. It would take multiple days, multiple invoices and research on my own part to see what was screwed up each month.I had multiple occasions of not receiving the books I paid for and having to contact about it.Simply put, you can find another service online that wont have this many issues and wont be rude to you.PS blocked me on Facebook for leaving a review of my experience. So petty.
Comics received more than a month after release. Not responsive to emails. Absolutely abysmal customer service. After what I had heard about these guys, I should have known better than to do business with them. Never again. Would give them zero stars if I could. Buyer beware, stay away. Lone Star Comics and Midtown Comics are light years ahead - I highly recommend them. Unknown is a dumpster fire.
The online side of this location will take your money and never fulfill orders. I placed an order on June 11, 2018 and any time I ask about any type of update the only response I get is that nothing can be done and that CGC Comics take time to receive. Im writing this review on 1/7/2020, a year and a half later. If they have not recieved the graded comics by now, they never will. Avoid ordering any CGC comics from this location as you will never receive them and will never receive a refund.
Has a great varied of books but ordering online is a completely different experience than in person. For both of my online orders they had 0 idea when the shipment would be put together and finally shipped out. Both times the employee answering the phone seemed like they would rather be doing something else than helping me with my online order, both in how they talked to me and the way they talked. Everyone has a bad day so once isnt a problem but this is 2 for 2 on order trouble and employee attitude. Hopefully its not a trend that continues.
This store is unbelievably terrible. 6 week shipping window for books that are in stock. Save yourself your time, money, and effort, this shop is not worth it. People that care about their customers do not treat people like theyre worthless. This shop is hot garbage, and Ill never understand how they have such a following. Theres 1,000 better shops out there!
So my wife and I made a order durring the most recent sale and part of the terms and conditions is that you have to agree to 6 or more weeks process to even get it ready to ship. Absolutely unsatisfied when I called they were rude and said it was a normal thing. They do not answer emails and only work 2 days a week. Great covers but they are a joke when it comes to customer service if you have orders back up that far open up all week days and hire weekends GET YOUR PRODUCT OUT THERE. would not buy from here again get them 2nd hand or just dont buy these covers
I wouldnt recommend purchasing from this company online. Its been almost 3 months since they posted $120 worth of comics to me which havent shown up and they wont follow up on delivery saying its not their responsibility. Now wont respond to messages and wont issue refund so am supposed to just write off the money. youll see by reviews lots of people in the same boat so Id avoid and buy your comics from somewhere else that respects their customers
What you need, they got it. CGC? no problem they got that too, CBCS? sure why not. Get your books graded if nothing else. Or buy from the display case, they have signature series graded books too. Also when youre there pick up some store exclusives for sure. The store has the best exclusives around. The guys that run the store are very knowledgeable, they know their s#!t. Make sure you set up for pull box to get the comics you want whenever they come out. That way you dont have to rush during your lunch break to beat the crowd. You may also want to browse through the online store if you are looking for something in particular. Or you may just want to sell your grandpas old collection, you can do that too. Just stop by take the kids. Get them some books to read it may even help them in school (better than reading books with no pictures 😉). I would give them more stars but Google said 5 was the limit. Next time Im in the store I will take pictures, you may want to tune in for that later.
It takes a lot but they broke me....Have ordered 20 times from them and I am done with them. . Have good prices but their slow shipping and lack of customer service has made up my mindPreordered something April 10th with a release date of May 30th.Got a basically canned response on email twice since my 1st contact on July 8th saying that they were sending the order to the shop to be worked on. Still Nada. Have emailed them 3 other times with basically same canned responseHello,Thank you for reaching out. Thank you for your patience.Got a response on Messenger on July 26th stating they were held up in customs. Absolutely God awful customer service. Do not order from these people. They will take months to process your simple order. They will then mark your orders ready to ship and leave them that way for a month or more before sending. It’s not uncommon to receive an order two or three months after release. They will not answer the phone or email. They will also cancel parts of your order without refund or explanation. Last I checked, that was still illegal. Do not waste your money here.
If I could give a lower rating I would, Ive placed several orders with this company and it took several months to get the orders and one order was never completed and they still havent issued a refund for the missing comic.The employees are rude and tell outwrite lies to the customer, they will show your items have been shipped for weeks or months and they never left the warehouse.Worst company ever to purchase from...find another source

My first time ordering from this site although my books did come in good condition, Ive read reviews where people had gotten badly damaged. i had sent questions to their contact email and their online website and they have yet to answer them, rather poor online service but I hope they get better I really like the comics they provide
My sister and I pre-ordered comics for Sept, Oct, and Nov. We have not received any comics yet. It has been over two weeks since our last book for Sept. came out. I regret pre-ordering my comics through Unknown Comics.... cause its UNKNOWN WHEN AND IF YOULL GET YOUR COMICS! ! !
Worst company I ever had the displeasure of dealing with, up to you if you want to buy but Note: they send out damaged books even if they know, they put sold out on items they think they can bring back for more money later on, dude that works there talks to customer like a animal because he can, they make mistake than will blame you for it some how, I got lucky and they canceled my last order plus refund better off buying from anywhere else literally.

2022-06-16Not just a comic shop. Full compliment of board games, toys and dioramas, deck building, and geeky hobby craft materials. The only reason I couldnt rate it 5-stars is the bulk of the comics can only be purchased online. Some books on display werent available for purchase because they hadnt been put up on the online shop yet; small bummer. Overall, excellent shop with a friendly staff.

2022-06-03They have a decent selection of Vics and other gaming stuff. Id say their gaming section is bigger than the comics. Recently, their comic selection has gotten a lot smaller, which is fine. They now have more gaming space. The staff has always been very friendly and helpful.

2022-05-16Was passing through Amarillo and decided to stop here because I know they are pretty infamous amongst the comic community for their store exclusives. However upon arrival I was told they were too short staffed to go retrieve any of the exclusives and that I should just order them online. Also they have a very small and lackluster back issue selection. Not a store I would visit twice.

2022-03-26Was very impressed with this shop and the employees! Im passing through on the way back to my home in Denver and needed volume two of East of West and found it right away! Was blown away by the selection of not only comics but also collectables and hobbie crafts. The man who rang me up was also very knowledgeable and quick with applicable suggestions as well as a very friendly guy! Will be back next time I come through Amarillo!

2022-03-08Really awesome store. They have comics, DND, Warhammer, board games, figurines. They also have tables where you can play DND, boardgames etc with friends and family if u dont have a place to play. The best thing about it is all the figurines though. The one with the X-Men fighting the sentinel looks like an old Jim Lee comic. I would recommend this just to go check it out. The kid in you will thank you and your real kids will do the same.

2022-06-03I brought some exclusives from these con artists a while back. One thing I hate is when comic book stores send products in a flimsy mailer. The books came bent in half with deep cuts on the comics. It was a HUGE hassle getting a refund. Avoid at all cost.

2022-06-06Please be aware with unknown comics when you order online or when you’re at a comic conventionAlways ask for a receipt and check it throughlyI was at a megacon convention in may and purchased a few books from unknown comics vendor and the check out person added a book I didn’t ordered or want so when I called to get my money back they said no so now I’m stuck with a book I didn’t want and I’m going to make sure I never buy from them again! I will pass it on to my family and friends
