Uptown Cheapskate in other cities:
Good luck ever getting your items sold here. The owner/buyer doesnt even look past the first couple items you buy. Ive tried to.sell three times and never have luck, even when I bring good items that they are listing they need. (H&M, forever21, j crew, Tommy Hilfiger.) She just has the same excuse, their inventory is too high. Well maybe if you lowered your prices to actual resale prices, people would buy. The owner here clearly just buys new wholesale items and resells it like shes running a boutique. If youre going to be a resell shop, then maybe you should focus on secondhand items instead of trying to be something youre not.
Took clothes to sell matching their current criteria and they didnt offer to buy any. I had brand new jeans with tags still on them. Boots that had never been worn. I just lost weight and never had a chance to wear any of them. Not sure what they meant by condition because I browsed while waiting and there were shirts with holes and armpit stains.
Each and every time I’ve been in this store I’m always pleased with the amount of variety and styles offered at reasonable prices. The store is clean and bright and the staff is always friendly and prompt to offer assistance. Grateful for this location being close to home!
My favorite local thrift store! Ive had great experiences both selling and buying. Ive been here quite a number of times and the store is always clean and usually quite organized. Nice dressing rooms, generally a good selection of items. Sometimes the prices seem a bit unreasonable for secondhand items but all in all, Im usually quite happy with the money I save shopping here vs. shopping new. Plus, its more eco-friendly to shop secondhand so I cant complain.Only 4 out of 5 stars because while the selection is good, I do feel it can be better. Its a lot of casual items that only teenagers can get away with wearing, its been hard finding clothing suitable for work sometimes. I also feel like the selection for men is disappointing - Ill look for pieces for my fiance and usually come back empty handed. Ive also seen store employees be a little distracted by their own conversations behind the counter but hey, most of them are just teens themselves so I give them the benefit of the doubt. Overall, love it here.
I came into sell some clothes and knowing it was the holidays was very courteous to staff but after waiting over 45 min and noticing that the staff had not even looked at my clothes and they were on the other end of the store talking with each other I asked how much longer it would be and he glanced at the bags (the other 2 employees there turned their backs totally ignoring me) and said oh that’s t-shirts we’re not taking those right now despite many of those were actually not t shirts but denim and dresses. I took the clothes somewhere else and am very disappointed with the bad and frankly unprofessional service I received here.
I would not recommend this place to people looking for thrift stores to go to. The prices of the items are almost the same as buying it straight from the retailer. The staff was very rude and had a lot of attitude. A positive attitude goes a long way in customer service.
I have been going to this location for years. However, I will not be going back after today. The new manager/owner is extremely rude and their pricing is awful. Super overpriced for resale. It’s disappointing that this location has changed so much and the manager/owner needs to know she cannot talk to customers the way she talked to me
Do NOT waste your time here.I worked at an upscale consignment store for over five years, so going into the store I (thought) I knew what to expect. However, I was very wrong.I brought in many nice and current articles of clothing (Kensie denim, Altard State, Gap, and Tory Burch) and they did not take a single item EXCEPT my like-new Tory Burch crossbody that they were willing to cough up $20 dollars for. I knew not to expect to receive anywhere near what I paid for the clothes, but to not take any of them? Needless to say, I grabbed my things and left.I simply do not understand how they take items from Walmart, but could not accept any of my items. Absolutely ridiculous - - - I will never be going back nor referring them to anyone.
Worst customer service ever by the owner. I was going to buy a dress it had a spot she was so rude to me making me feel as if I was the worst person for asking if it would come out. Her employee was nice saying I’ll hold it and try to get it out. She grabbed it from her and said no someone else can buy it this way and put it back out. I was in shock and she called us difficult in front of customers. Their faces everyone was shocked. She should not be a business owner. Period.
UPDATED: Their return policy stinks. Store credit only. And the prices werent even that impressive. Stick with Clothes Mentor instead. They at least give you a week to return an unworn item for a full refund. My experience: I sold them some cowboy boots, and I opted for the store credit, since it was $7 more. Bad decision. I couldnt find anything I wanted. I finally purchased 2 items for a little more than the credited amount, but I immediately regretted my purchases. So I returned them and was at least able to get store credit that wouldnt expire. But now I was out the extra cash, too, if I couldnt find anything to buy.A few weeks later, I took my daughter with me. I couldnt find anything for myself, but she managed to find a cardigan and a pair of shoes she liked that didnt have any stains or anything (you have to watch out for that because nearly everything I even considered was stained or damaged and thats why I couldnt get anything for myself). I still had a few dollars of credit left, though, so I decided to spend it (plus extra, again) on a hat for my husband, because that was the only other thing we could find that we liked. I should have just written off the $4. I would have come out ahead. It doesnt look good on him. But the store is 30 minutes away, so I wasnt able to make it back in within the 14 days to try to exchange it for another store credit. Now Im stuck with a hat no one will wear. I tried my whole family. If I had taken the $25 for the boots, I would have only been out about $2 extra for the usable items my daughter came away with. Instead, Im out about $12 total... Because I went with the store credit. My advice... Dont take store credit if you sell to them. UNLESS you first find something you absolutely love and youve tried it on and its perfect and doesnt have any stains or rips or bad seems or anything. Otherwise, youll spend a few dollars extra every single time you make an exchange...Store credit.... Purchase for a few dollars more.... Returned for new, higher credit.... Purchased for a few days dollars more.... Should have returned one item for another store credit. Now just out that money because its been over 14 days. But at least the cycle is broken and I wont lose any more. But, after everything, I ended up making $20 for the boots when I would have gotten $25 if I had walked away with the cash instead of the $32 credit.
Great place to buy clothes. I bought all my kids clothes here once they hit adult sizes and were out growing their clothes every other day. Still one of the first place we go. Name brand clothes, shoes, and purses for a fraction of the cost of the mall. Sometimes still brand new. Dont carry plus sizes.
This location has a nice selection of clothes and a non-judgmental attitude...which is nice. Their prices are competitive, but keep an eye out for the new items, as theyre mixed in with the pre-owned ones...and the price will tell you that its new. Dont get me wrong, the price is less than what youd pay at a department store, but its quite a bit more than what you would expect from a place like this or Platos Closet.
Another version of a Platos Closet, but I thought it was much more organized and had a lot bigger selection!! I needed to buy solely business casual clothes, and I had no trouble finding lots of them - in fact, I had trouble because I had to narrow down my choices! Got some nice Banana Republic, Tory Burch, and other grown-up womens brand-name clothes. ALL of my clothes are in like-new to brand new condition (where the tags were still on some!!). Will be back soon!
I took quite a few new clothes to sell because I have lost a lot of weight, theyre not even a year old, they tell me they were outdated! But as Im looking around its nothing but young and skinny people shopping. Thats why they did not want my clothes because its for older people… really?! theyre still new clothes, hardly worn. I take care of my clothes. They didnt want them because young generation dont want them!
I was only given 6 dollars combined for a PACSUN shirt and a Vera Bradley purse that was was in excellent condition (originally it was $40!). The staff was not welcoming nor clear in their instructions, and it felt as if they were bullying me into donating the items hey wouldn’t buy. I had brought it a $100 never used Dooney and Burke purse, just for them to throw it down in a pile of donations with just one glance. I could have sold that on eBay! I have come here a few times hoping I would get more each time, but every time I’m left disappointed and angry by their attitude. Never coming back.
Dont bother. I just left there. I had my eye on my things i brought in to sell the whole time and the lady didnt even bother to go thru it, and called me and said they werent able to take any of my items. Not 1??? Out of a big tub that i brought in, come on just say you didnt want to look thru it.
Clean, tidy store. Good middle-of-the-road selection of brands. Not a very high ceiling for what you can find (you wont be finding high-fashion pieces), but you will almost always find something decent. Basing my review on the mens section, since that is what I browse.
Weird people currently working here. Customer service is nonexistent. Wasnt greeted or asked if we needed help. We were just looked at suspiciously like they thought we were going to steal or something. Then all the employees gathered at the other end of the store and appeared to be gossiping. I went closer to where they were and then they dispersed. Bunch of snobby kids. Will not be coming back here. 99% of the stuff in there is junk anyway.
Similar issue I had with the Lewisville location. Went in today and I made a note to check to see if the woman would even go through my bag and low and behold, she took out one top, placed it back in and then called me. This is ridiculous that you would have someone wait in store for almost 30 minutes to not even go through their items. Take your money and business elsewhere.
Awful. Brought a bunch of cute stuff. Maxi dress, party dress (Romeo and Juliette Couture), a bunch of fun spring skirts from the Limited and only 3 items got priced out for $16. I was told Maxi dresses werent selling (its the end of April) as well as business skirts (um). Dont waste your time. Sell it online. Terrible business model.
Not impressed with employee here. Seems to hate their job and take it out on customers. Also they didn’t even look through my things. I drove to this location bc Dallas wasn’t in need of things i had to get rid of. I specifically went through my clothes to see what was relevant to this locations Needs (according to site). Totally understand if it really wasn’t stuff they needed, however Literally my stuff hadnt been looked through when i picked it up...(could tell by looking at the basket) also they called me 15 mins after i dropped off after they told me it would be 2 hours. All other locations I’ve been to have been pleasant, this one is mediocre. If you’re going to blatantly waste my time, I’m going to blatantly leave an honest review of my experience. Thanks
The name fits!! worst place ever to sell clothes to. My husband took in 5 pairs of Dockers jeans with the tags still on them(theyre 50-60$ jeans mind you)THEY OFFERED US 20 DOLLARS!!! HOW CHEAP CAN YOU BE? 300$ in brand-new jeans that they would upsell like crazy. This place is a joke.
If you’re trying to sell, don’t waste your time by coming here! I’ve tried 3 times to sell really good quality, newly bought items (J-Crew, Charlotte Russe shoes, etc) and they don’t buy because their stock is too full! If you’re buying, they do have cute things, but be prepared to hunt for it!
This location doesnt have much variety for plus sizes and not to mention its not all that cheap. Shoe sizes 8-11 have a very limited variety as well. And they could use an actual bench in the changing room instead of a wobbly bar stool. Probably wont be going to this location again.
The store is ran by 16 year olds. The teenagers that work there have no sense of urgency or professionalism. The last visit I had was probably the most aggregating. I went in with two bags full of items, I stayed in store for my buy and watched a young boy barely go through my bag and stopped and passed it off to someone else. They then offered to purchase 3 without even looking at all of the items I had. Not to even mention the pricing is awful. Probably the worst location I’ve been to by far.
Very good quality of brand clothes, and a lot of variety, you can take your clothes and sell them, the prices are reasonable considering that everything is from expensive brands, but still for my second-hand clothing budget if it exceeds the prices a little. I would compare it to Platos closet in terms of prices, but in quantity if it has more Uptown stuff. They do not sell childrens clothing, only men and women.

2022-06-08I went to the 50% sale. Discounted item can’t be returned. I was in a hurry and didn’t notice this shirt had a stain in the shoulder and many holes. I don’t think this item should have been sold to me or anyone in this condition. Went to the store and they wouldn’t fix the situation. I would recommend you check the clothing very well before purchase. I get cheaper things at tjmaxx and new but think I’m doing it to minimize waste and this happens.

2022-06-20The store itself seemed fine….the clothes were well organized and easy to browse. A lot of fast fashion-y things (Forever 21) that seemed to be regular price to pick through.I did not like the vibe from the employees. They didn’t make eye contact and I had to actively gain their attention to try something on. The employee who let me in the fitting room said something about where to put clothes that didn’t work but I misunderstood and she snapped at me when I asked for clarification. Probably will not be coming back because shopping in a place where you feel judged and unwelcome isn’t a good time.

2022-04-11Way overpriced! Ive taken items before and they dont even look through your items but a couple of the firsts pieces and thats it. I rather go to the Wylie location, theyre always super friendly and have great deals on their stuff. Do not recommend.

2022-07-13I wouldn’t waste your time bringing clothes to sell to this location. I had an entire bin of nice plus size (xl and xxl) clothing from boutiques and other brand names and they didn’t take a single item. I even looked at their current selection for those sizes and they didn’t have much like they did in the other smaller sizes. I knew when I walked in I was probably wasting my time because one of the girls behind the counter was sorting through someone else’s clothes and barely looking at each item at all before just throwing it to the side to give back and not purchase. If they have too much inventory right now I can understand but they should give a heads up that they aren’t buying items if they aren’t even going to take the time to truly look through stuff. Not to mention I have been to other uptown cheapskate locations and this one just seemed like they were priced outrageously compared to other locations.

2022-06-05Walked in and walked right back out. This place is NOT cheap by any means for a place that sells USED clothing. Like I seriously saw a used pair of really old looking *OLD NAVY JEANS* for $20 and a pair of very worn out Chacos for like $30...heck no. I would rather drive to the actual retailer and buy them brand new! I just dont know what they were thinking calling themselves Uptown Cheapstakes when that is far from what describes them. *If you are looking into going thrift shopping (which is what I literally searched for while finding this place—thrift shops) or just shopping for used clothes in general, Id skip over this one and save your time and MONEY!!!*

2022-06-13Extremely racist employees took freshly washed clothes up there, nothing is wrong with the clothes at all and they sent me away twice for the same reason and I wash the clothes twice!Would not recommend selling anything to them better yet or purchasing anything

2022-03-14I have sold here two or three times but they definitely rip you off. Gave some really good items-some with tags- priced over 200 originally and got 60 bucks for it. You’re better off at selling at platos closet- they’ll atleast give you a reasonable price for your items.

2022-07-06Poor customer service and extremely overpriced items. I could buy some brand new forever21 stuff for what they were asking.

2022-02-16I tried to sell clothes there and I brought in good quality stuff even stuff identical to what they were selling and they didn’t take it I don’t recommend going there to get money for your clothes I got 6 dollars for a 50 dollar paid of gym shark leggings it’s a rip off Plato’s closet is probably better.
