Super helpful employees in the shoe department that are super knowledgeable and answered questions even when I made it clear I wasnt sure I was going to purchase anything.

Amazing selection of items in the store and very friendly service. I live downtown in Austin so coming to this location was like seeing a much bigger version of the one around where I live. Plenty of things to look for for outdoors or hiking and such.Plenty of parking in the shopping village and easily seen driving to the location. It’s next to Central Market.
Difficult to find shoe laces that will fit in special system. Manufacturers own laces dont even fit.

One of my favorite clothing stores anywhere. The staff is kind and friendly and knowledgeable. There’s no pressure to buy anything - just being in theirs space is a fun experience. They literally have everything you need for outdoor experiences. I also love their board game section :)
Whole Earth has a superb collection of the best in outdoor oriented clothing, shoes, fashion and of course, gear. Youll be impressed with the quality and the selection. They also carry great gift ideas and toys for kids. My rating comes from the overall cost, as it is an expensive store, granted the gear and genre is expensive, and the prices here are no deals (sometimes the sale rack has a few bargains), also the service here is hit or miss, Ive had mixed experiences of either being ignored or over-watched.
Lady that worked the door was rude. I was locked out of my car so I thought I’d grab some gifts for my nieces and nephews before my trip home.I had my cart of grocery, the small cart, and told her I’m locked out of my car can I bring these in with me while I wait for the Locksmith. She said “No” pretty coldly. It’s a pet peeve of mine when places make it hard to spend money there.That being said they have cool stuff.
We love browsing in this store. Careful bringing your kids in though - the toy/book/puzzle section at the front of the store is dangerous! They have a great shoe selection too - Natives, Toms, Olukais, and many more! Love their clothes, although I usually only shop the sales.
This place is full of fun outdoor items, which makes it awesome right away for me. It also has tons of toys, novelties, and books. All around this is just a fun place to go and look around. We bought a hiking guide for national parks here and will be back when we need to purchase more camping gear.
These guys were great, call the San Antonio looking for a much needed large rolling duffle bag and a guy named French was helpful in getting capacity details for me and then located one in Austin and had it held for me! I got the rolling duffle and he even made sure I got my 30% discount at the Austin store. People like him are what the new Post-Covid Economy needs today! I am a new loyal customer!
I love all the toys there. And books about all kinds of places and other fun things. And I like when my hands are full, they ask if I would like to have them hold my items at the register until I am ready to check out. And they had kazoos!
Love this store! Beautiful clothes and fun products all throughout. On the pricier end, but their goods are A+ quality and will last you for years. I went into one location for Birkenstocks and they didn’t have them, but they intuitively looked them up at the other location and informed me they were on hold for me there. Great customer service!
Our boys were getting fussy and we had two employees work hard at making them feel better! They gave them gold Whole Earth stickers and were playful and were e just so great. We shop there often and the staff is always helpful and offers excellent customer service. Thank you!!
Great place to find awesome gear & super cool presents. Has always been one of my favorite stores but now my 5yo has declared it is also her favorite 😊
So many wonderful things. As I make my way through the store I imagine all the places I could go and all I could do with the backpacks, hiking boots, sleeping bags, hammocks and, etc. The one ding to this store is that they offer no generic brand items that are more economically priced. Its all name brand, full priced clothing and etc.
Masks are required. There is a station out front with hand sanitizer for use before and after shopping. Staff is friendly and welcoming, would visit again! Limited number of shoppers at a time, try to visit during non peak hours.
This feels like a big corporate chain, they have things scattered, where you cant really find things youre looking for, and dont expect to get help from the staff, theyre too busy having a conversation in the backpacks section that has nothing to do with work. They seem to scatter when you walk up and are obviously struggling to find what you are looking for. I really prefer their other location, the staff seems much more attentive.
The people at the Gateway location are always so helpful and knowledgeable, probably the same at the other location. It seems like they always have some kind of great deal or awesome sale. They are my go to place so often for my outdoor needs. Thank you for being awesome.
Full disclosure, I work for Whole Earth Provision Co. But I was a fan before I was an employee in the home office. I love this store, with it sitting next to Central Market you can come to Whole Earth, buy anything you could want for the outdoors and then run next door to get a snack for you next adventure to the Green Belt or a music festival. The store is full of surprises and I never fail to find something that is the just what I need. Come in and stroll around, you will find something you like I am sure of it.

I came in to get a climbing harness and the staff was very helpful. I was even able to test the harness in store. They also have an awesome array of kids toys, books, and outdoors equipment.
Fun store to explore and find unique items.
I really like the store has some really unique games and gift items, stocking stuffers.I recommend you take a visit even if you dont buy anything, you never know you might find that unique gift for someone special.
Always hunting for the right shoe. Found it! Staff was helpful at the south location. Customers were a throwback to the dismal 90s in old Austin. Same figures you might see at Wheatsville, thoroughly white. Hmm.
I shop there sales. I get high end shoes for way less by shopping the sales. I love going here for kids birthday presents. $40 bucks will get you a parent approved age appropriate learning toy any kid would love plus some niknak the kid will love more cuz its a icecream truck or something. Shop here!

The store used to be one of my favorite in Austin. Always where I went to buy shoes, gifts, or hard to find outdoor gear. My sister broke her foot leaving the store. Wed been in there shoe shopping for over an hour and were leaving with our purchases. She was in the doorway for at least 5 full minutes blocking traffic in and out of the store. Not one member of the staff came over, said anything, did anything. Ill shop online before I ever come here again.
Ill shop here over REI any day of the week. Its classy, clean and very well run. The clothes and shoes are specialty and not cheap but well worth it.Hiking, kayaking, mountaineering and camping store with style.
Excellent location. In South Austin next to Central Market. Lots of parking and wheel chair accessible.Shop is filled with quality items. From books, clothing and childrens toys of all ages....was a great time...enjoyed visiting with knowledgeable and friendly employees

A clean location, with a very friendly staff. Plenty of hiking backpacks, clothing, and various assorted hippie knick-knackery.
I find them to be consistently over-priced, not knowledgable, and inflexible. Would not recommend them for much of anything.... REI is better for brick and Mortar. There are a 1001 online sites that out-compete them in every way. Not sure what niche they are trying to fill. They fall into the group of companies that tries to create intimacy via marketing but do not forget you are in a pure transactional relationship with this organization.
Staff at the south Lamar location did not bother to help in any way shape or form, BUT the staff watched me like a hawk. At first I thought it was my imagination. I thought maybe they were waiting to approach me to help. After no help and the burning sensation of eyes following me intensified I decided to see if my gut was right. I walked in circles around the store. Every time I changed directions, a long haired man standing behind a counter with his arms crossed was facing my directions. No smile. No can I help you?. He just glared at me looking straight into my eyes. I smiled, made my purchase and left. I guess brown or well tanned people are looked at differently at Whole Earth Provisions.
I would only give 1 star, however my first trip here months ago the employees were wonderful. On my most recent trip, not a single one seemed to care so Ill never shop here again. I was barely even given a glance. Im not expected to be waited on hand and foot, but some form of acknowledgement would go a long way. The 2 cashiers at the front didnt greet us when walking in. When I was approaching the back of the store for outdoor gear, the 2 employees that were talking separated, one of which passed me up with a quick glance and rhetorical how are you, and proceeded to the front to speak with other employees. The one that remained just acknowledged me with a grin as I passed by him and continued to stare into the abyss. I was befuddled that no customer service was extended. Instead Ill be shopping on Amazon for what I went in for.
Our family loves Whole Earth. Shoes, Toys, clothes and Anything you need to camp. What a great, localish store. In an Amazon dominated world, we love their local feel.

Tall, long haired male employee was extremely rude. After answering a call in the store while browsing I was interrupted and told to hang up or leave. I was one of two customers in the store and there was no line to get in. Wont be back here again
Very helpful and knowledgeable staff. If they dont have what youre trying to find, theyre honest enough to refer you to someone else that might have what youre looking for. Fortunately, I always find what I need. Love, love love this place!
Love this place. It is like an Austin version of REI but even better! The perfect place to yett prepped before Eyores Birthday, Kite Festival, etc. I always stop for toys to give as gifts (in my kids stockings, at easter, birthdays, etc) cause they have an awesome selection. Especially when you consider any big box alternatives. My boys are rough on their shoes and Whole Earth Provision usually has a good selection that will last through constant wear all season. As well as cute local items for guests in town wanting a souvenier.
If you are in need of outdoor supplies, hiking gear, keep austin weird shirts, and awesome hammocks, then this is the place! They have been a local favorite for year and customers continue to return for their great customer service.
Guy at the shoe section asks if I need help, then interrupts me while asking a question by telling me to grab him if I had any questions... then proceedsto ignore me and talk to the other lady that was from corporate. I was completely ignored. I was in here looking for a pair of $300 hiking boots to which I had 2 questions and would have bought them. Ill go elsewhere where I can get questions answered instead of dismissed before I can even speak... 2 stars because the lady at the counter was very nice.
When REI is just too far away, or I am looking for something that Whole Earth carries, this is where I come. Their shoe selection is generally good, and their options for head gear and sunglasses are excellent. The shop always feels cluttered and cramped to me, but I guess thats what you get when you try to pack in as much merchandise as they do.Having Central Market next door is a huge plus.
I always like to visit Whole Earth Provision Co. at this location when I am in Austin (Elroy) for the races at the Circuit of The Americas. There is a relaxed atmosphere and the employees are both relaxed and helpful without being pushy. For those unfamiliar with Austins roadway plan, figuring out how to get here can be a challenge. However, its location benefits by having Central Market right next door. Parking has never been an issue. The adult technical part of the store is at the far end. If you are a hiker/camper/outdoors person, do visit and you wont be disappointed!
If you are looking for a gift for another or for yourself this is the place. I always find something out pf the ordinary here.A table skee ball game for your office.Love this place.
Excellent service. The staff is so helpful and knowledgeable that we often wonder if the prices are more expensive, but thats not the case (same as Amazon). We prefer to buy here because theyre so good at educating us on what we need!
Full disclosure: I work for Whole Earth Provision Co in their home office. That being said, the store is full of fun stuff for kids to explore and adults will enjoy the top quality brand name clothes and gear.
I think there just too much going on in the store. If they could have a bit more open space where Im not squeezing thru racks and people and look at items itd be a better shopping experience. Besides that staff was friendly. Prices were ehh....
Really nice staff and an eclectic assortment of hardcore gear, casual (outdoor) apparel, and toys. Not as much selection as the well known outdoor equipment stores, but Id rather sling my money to Whole Earth Provisions if possible.
Great selection of quality products. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Huge plus is that you can bring your dog in with you. I shop here for quality products at a reasonable price.
Be sure to check Sale racks as they always have some great deals. Staff is knowledgeable, friendly and store is being super-safe during Covid.

Disappointed. Called looking for a specific type of shoe. First lady helpful and upbeat, transferred me to the shoe dept. The second (young?) lady didnt seem to know their stock and acted as if she couldnt be bothered. I was on the line maybe a minute total. Attitude is everything.

A good alternative to REI, and a capable outfitter. Found the products I wanted, received good customer service. Only negative is location for both of the Austin stores, as traffic can be problmatic.
I did some Christmas shopping here and although they were busy and it was near closing time, the store was clean and several people offered to help me.
The costumer service there is par to none excellent people, excellent service, i was pleasantly surprised i will defenetly go there again. If you are looking for camping stuff and more this is the place to go. two thumbs up defenetly

There are some great products here, but the staff needs a lesson in customer service. They completely ignore the customers and if you get their attention they act like you are an inconvenience to them. I will never be back.

2022-06-07Great store for gifts of all ages or even your pets. Plenty of outdoor necessities for camping/hiking etc. Friendly staff. This place has always been such a fun spot to go into and browse.

2022-08-05This is a follow up review. Original is posted beleow: I did receive a call from Bridgett Thom (whod been on vacation) and she was nice and assuring, said the stores been having a tougher time of things since covid, but they were working on the customer service issue. She encouraged me to give them another try, and as I do love so much about them, including their selection, I dropped by to check out some tevas. Just so happens I arrived 30 minutes before closing, but I was still greeted, (not glared at) and the girl in the shoe department, (Elle?) didnt rush me, was super helpful and friendly. I really want this store to make it- theyve been around a long time, and they are pure Austin. So I changed my one star review. Nobodys perfect, but it is encouraging to see someone own it , and try to do better.Original Review: Incredibly poor customer service. Employees grouped around cash register chatting it up, not interested in helping with sizing, or product questions. Only activity they do seem interested in (besides ringing up sales) is locking dressing room door behind you, as you get a different size, so you have to interrupt their conversation to get the door unlocked again. Tried to offer feedback over a week ago through customer support, they said the oft referred to : Bridgett Thom would be in touch. Never was.

Huge fan of Houston locations but live here.Nobody working the store in mens and shoes ever appears to assist OR they are to engaged in small talk and gossip in their clusters of employees.Sad because there are not many places to get OC, Kuhl and so on.Im here often too as I love Central Market next door.

2022-05-05Whole Earth has better stuff than REI. There, I said it. Not that I dont love REI as well, but I feel like Whole Earths product selection is more curated and better quality. Not quite as much selection, but a surprising amount given the size of their store. Great friendly service, usually pretty knowledgeable. I love this place!

2022-03-04Wonderful store with beautiful items and very helpful staff. I bought a Texas bird guidebook plus a folding laminated field guide to Texas Central birds and it was really helpful in learning about the birds in my backyard.
